Product Description
This album by the Indianapolis outfit the Zerfas, brothers David & Herman, is one of the best & probably the best-known self-pressed US psych albums ever to have seen the light of day. First time on CD, originally released in nineteen-seventy-something. Eight tracks. Radioactive. 2004.
HOWEVER... when I got a copy of the LONG AWAITED CD reissue (an LP reissue was done in 1994) I stuck it on to play for friends who'd never heard it and I was horrified! I don't mind vinyl transfers - in fact I often prefer them because they allow you to hear the sound of the original pressing. But this CD was taken from a poor condition LP and then layers of EQ and other devices were employed to cover that up. The effect? To hear what this sounds like, stick on an original LP or the 1994 master tapes LP reissue, and then take all your heaviest winter coats and blankets and lay them over your speakers. That'd do it.
The guy who did the 1994 LP reissue claimed the CD was "coming out in a month" in late 1994. Now it's 13 years later and it's never going to happen. Not ever. It's criminal. All you can do is find someone to trade you a good CDR of the LP or find a copy of the 1994 reissue vinyl. There's a Greek bootleg LP from around 1999 that doesn't look very good but was taken from the 94 LP and sounds fine. Just avoid the Radioactive CD as if it were radioactive for this title!!!
