Album Description

Syd & Marty Kroffts enormously successful follow up to Hr Pufnstuf another Wizard of Oz style children's program full of psychedelic metaphors and great music (Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel). Incredibly this is the first time that this soundtrack has been made available in the west. The appeal is everything cartoon and kitsch from Batman to Josie & The Pussycats to the Banana Splits and Brady Bunch. 11 tracks. El. 2006.

Album Details

Syd and Marty Kroffts Enormously Successful Follow Up to 'hr Pufnstuf' Another Wizard of Oz Style Children's Program Full of Psychedelic Metaphors and Great Music (Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel) with a Nod Toward the Contemporary Success of Josie and the Pussycats and the Banana Splits (Which Placed a Band at the Centre of the Story), and with Insect Wings that Allow them to Fly, the Bugaloos were a Fake Pop Band of English Bugs who Live in Tranquility Forest (The Last of the British Colonies) Along with their Friend Sparky the Firefly. The Bugaloos Theme was Created by Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel (Who Had Completed 'barbarella' and 'pufnstuf' and Would Soon Write the Famous Themes for 'happy Days' ' Laverne and Shirley') with Most of the Other Beautiful Selections (Including the Hit 'senses of Our World') Penned by Hal Yoergler who also Produced the Soundtrack.

3 out of 5 stars Not what I expected.......2006-03-21

If you are as familiar with the songs from the Bugaloos TV series as I am, you may be somewhat disappointed with this CD. The versions of the songs are not the same as on the episodes. There is different production, instrumentation, and mixing, including on the vocal tracks. While the essence of the songs is the same (and I do enjoy them), I would have preferred to have a CD with the songs as they were heard on the show.

4 out of 5 stars Not Hanna Barbara.......2006-03-08

It was actually a Sid and Marty Kroft show that's why there were british actors. Kroft also did Lidsville, HR Pufnstuf, Land of the Lost, Sigmund the Sea Monsters and many other shows that varied in an hour and 1/2 format each show running about 1/2 hour per episode. The US CD is being released March 14, 2006 at a much cheaper rate. Same songs less than 1/2 the cost. Is it as good as the import? I don't know, but it is worth a listen.

4 out of 5 stars Great nostalgia... and superior sound!.......2003-04-26

Okay, so the import fee is steep, but this "Bugaloos" album is REMASTERED (clearly from the original tapes), unlike the Sid & Marty Krofft compilation CD available here in the USA. If you're a fan of the Bugaloos TV show, and you're looking for superior sound quality, this import price is completely justified. I wish the Krofft compilation CD had taken the same amount of time and care in the handling of the material as this Japanese import did. Very well done! Compare the shared Bugaloos tracks side by side and there's no contest! Buy this Import CD. Oh... and I dig the songs too! It reminded me why I woke up so early on a Saturday morning and raced to the TV set for a 1/2-hour of groovy fun. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Remember the TV show..........2002-12-19

The Bugaloos was a Hanna & Barbera Saturday morning TV show. Oddly, I remember all the actors being british. This album is a compilation of songs from the show. Some feel-good, pick-me up songs with a little humor and the only 'birthday' song I've ever liked.

4 out of 5 stars Memory Lane.......2002-06-02

I had this album as a kid and loved it until I got too old for this kid stuff. Almost from the moment I traded the album, I wished I had it back. I can still remember the words to most of the songs.

A nice break and something you don't mind your kids hearing.

3 out of 5 stars collectors only.......2002-01-31

A steep import price and a playing time of less than 30 minutes makes this a real indulgence. This is fluffy, anodyne pop that's really only listenable in short bursts (about the length of this release, actually) by kitsch aficionados, so if you fit the bill, spend away. The sound quality is pretty good (apparently remastered), but there's practically no further information or exclusives apart from Japanese liner notes.
