Product Description
Keyboardist Hoppy KAMIYAMA (Owner of God Mountain Records), drummer Tatsuya YOSHIDA (RUINS) and bassist Mitsuru NASUNO (ALTERED STATES) are DAIMONJI. All coming from female singer Jun TOGAWA's band, the Japanese musicians first played as a trio on January 5, 2002 at Tokyo's Star Pine's Cafe, as part of a mini-festival featuring improv-incorporating bands such as DATE COURSE PENTAGON ROYAL GARDEN and BONDAGE FRUIT. Firstly calling themselves IMPROG, they played in front of a wildly enthusiastic crowd. Changing their name on the occasion of their debut album "Improg" (!), the trio is not longer an occasional session group, but a tangible and permanent entity. Using the complete capacity of a CD, the recording includes two long pieces taken from the aforementioned performance, as well as two others. There are plenty of bands out there that improvise in jazz and avant-garde vocabularies, but DAIMONJI's improvised Progressive rock is sure to become a unique and continuous challenge to genre conventions. Fans of powerful jazz-rock with strong Zeuhl influences will be on cloud nine ! Not by chance if you consider that Tatsuya YOSHIDA is often referred as the Nippon Christian VANDER ! Excellent…

    Customer Reviews:

    4 out of 5 stars Excellent progressive-zeuhl-fusion.......2003-12-04

Yoshida never fails to amaze me... from the punk/prog/noise of Ruins and the heavy-zeuhl of Koenjihyakkei through his jazzy work with Masabumi Kikuchi's Slash Trio and the Satoko Fujii Quartet, everything this guy plays on really makes me smile...

Daimonji allows Yoshida fans a perfect setting to relish in his superb drumming... Improg features four long, powerful, experimental improvised bursts of progressive rock that are among the loosest and most off-the-cuff examples of Yoshida's style yet to appaear on CD... hats off to Amazon for stocking this relatively obscure title!
