If only the 2nd half were as good as the 1st!.......2006-03-10
This album starts off great. The title track, "Caught In The Game" is a great rocker from the first guitar riff. This is followed up by the more pop-friendly/synth-laden (and still great) "Jackie Don't Go." Then comes the obligatory love ballad "I'll Never Stop Loving You," which may not be Survivor's greatest ballad (it doesn't live up to "Ever Since The World Began" from their previous album), but it's definitely a worthy track. The next two tracks, "Doesn't Have To Be This Way" and "Ready For The Real Thing" are two of the band's most infectious rock tunes ever. Great guitar work, soaring melodies... all of these songs just work so well on every level. Sadly, we then come to the second half ("side 2" on the cassette version.) It's odd how they dumped all the filler on side 2. You'd think they might spread it out a bit to make it less noticeable. Anyway, "Side 2" opes with Half-Life-- an obvious attempt to capture the feel of "American Heartbeat" from their previous hit album "Eye Of The Tiger." Sadly, "American Heartbeat" wasn't a particularly good song, and "Half-Life" proves to be no better. "What Do You Really Think" isn't bad. It's a fun, catchy tune, but the chorus seems too repetative, and the whole song is somewhat forgetable. "Slander" and "Santa Ana Winds," again, both feel like fillers to me. They're not terrible songs by any means, but they just don't grab me in any way, and I often stop listening before I get to these songs. So what you're left with is an album that starts with a ton of potential and some really great songs, and then sputters to the finish line with some less than remarkable work.
And Along Came 1983..............2005-08-10
Follow-up to the band's biggest album gives us both the highs and the lows for what makes Survivor, well....Survivor. Dave Bickler's final dance provides many great songs, but also some not-so good ones. One constant, though, is the increased use of the 80's organ. You can tell what decade this music is from very quickly. I'm not going to get into enormous detail about the songs, but I would like to talk about the title song. 'Caught in the Game' is the best one on here and should've been a top 40. They began playing it on the radio in November of '83, and it reached as high as #52. But it would go no further, leaving it all but gone from memory.
Overall, though, a very good album.
But not perfect.
Arguably their best, their lost album if you will .......2005-04-08
The last with original singer Jim Peterick, "currently of the budwiser commercials " The follow up to the best "Eye Of The Tiger" understandably this couldn't quite match the hysteria of the "BEAST" Clearly a 3rd of the tracks are good or better then anythng out at the time...My particular favorites are Jacki, Caught in the Game, and Slander... Would love to see a new Survivor album with the two singers splitting and sharing duties on new and old material..Peterick, recently of the award winning "Bud-Beer commercials" apparently near ruined his voice due to the rigors of nightly. Jim peterick had apparently started as a studio singer, hence nightly Rock & Roll singing, was destroying his voice....
ONE OF SURVIVOR'S HARDEST ROCKERS.......2005-02-22
CAUGHT IN THE GAME IS A VERY OVERLOOKED CD BY SURVIVOR WHICH CAME OUT IN THE FALL OF 1983. I GUESS THE PUBLIC WAS EXPECTING SOMETHING IDENTICAL TO THEIR PREVIOUS ALBUM THE EYE OF THE TIGER. THIS CD IS BETTER AND IS MORE HEAVY ON GUITAR THAN ITS PREVIOUS ALBUM. GUITARIST KEVIN SULLIVAN PRODUCED THIS AND DID A GREAT JOB. THE EMPHASIS OF THE SOUND IS MORE ON THE GUITARS AND THE INSTRUMENTS,RATHER THAN THE VOCALS. THE RESULT IS GREAT GUITAR RIFFS AND SOLOS MIXED WITH GREAT SYNTHESIZERS AND SOLID DRUMS AND BASS TO PRODUCE THAT CLASSIC 80'S HARD ROCK SOUND. CAUGHT IN THE GAME WAS THE ONLY HIT SINGLE,BUT EVERY SONG ON THIS CD ROCKS. I ESPECIALLY LIKE "HALF-LIFE,"SLANDER" WITH REO'S KEVIN CRONIN ON BACKING VOCALS,AND "SANTA ANNA WINDS".

Perfection Of Early Days Survivor.......2000-11-17
Caught In A Game is underrated great rock album between their bestselling albums Eye Of The Tiger and Vital Signs. While it was commercially a failure but this is the also the very reason Survivor is respected among true rock lovers. This represents their pure pursuit of perfect melodic rock interrupted ironically by the success of Eye Of The Tiger.
Caught In A Game is a great rocker with pop allure. Jackie Don't Go is a memorable power ballad. Never Stopped Loving You is Survivor's trademark ballad which is my #1 favorite. It Doesn't Have To Be This Way is another pop rock track. Slander is a killer rock track. I really love the heavy guitar riff. Santa Ana Winds is another great power ballad.
You can say this album does not have attractive tracks as these million selling albums do. But I am confident that current hard rock fans who like Dio, Metallica, Iron Maiden or Euroipian hard rock fans will be sure to enjoy this album.
Superb is the only word to describe the Album.......2000-06-02
This album is absolutely what a hard-rocker needs!.. though it is 17 years old it is so much fresh and still impressive. Especially Santa Ana Winds and Slander are among the finest rock song ever written.
CAUGHT IN THE GAME (SURVIVOR).......2000-05-30
GREAT ALBULM YOU WILL LOVE EVERY SONG
Hey, they just needed a movie theme deal!.......2000-04-19
One of the great things about Survivor is that almost all of their fans loved them all the way throughout their career, no matter what lead singer they had. They appreciate the rawer edge and straight-forwardness of Dave Bickler in the '77 to '82 period, and they go off into '80s heaven with Jimi Jameson from '83 to '89. I am so sick of how people are divided over so many groups and their change in vocalists or musical periods, claiming they sold out their musical vision to commercialism or whatever -- the feuds over Van Halen vs. Van Hagar, pre vs. post "Hi Infidelity" REO Speedwagon, Journey before or with Steve Perry, Genesis before or with Phil Collins as lead vocal, Yes before or after their MTV success, Bryan Adams before or after "Into The Fire", Black Sabbath with or without Ozzy, Chicago with or after Peter Cetera, U2 before "Joshua Tree" when "they weren't so popular", the list goes on and on and on and on.
This '83 album is an extremely hard-to-find one that I've had for many years. It came after the hit album "Eye Of The Tiger" and judging from the scarcity of this album you'd swear the record label purposely and frantically recalled as many copies of it as they could find after it test-marketed near zilch commercial viability compared to its predecessor. Admittedly, when you compare it to '82s "Eye Of The Tiger" and '84s "Vital Signs" (both awesome albums and big sellers), it is a curiosity. One thing's for sure, it's got Survivor's signature sounds - the crisp clean guitars, solid piano and keyboards, and steady percussion. "I Never Stopped Loving You" is a fabulous ballad, mature in focus, reminiscent of "Ever Since The World Began" off of "Eye Of The Tiger". There are no slam-bam hits on this album, but if you are a Survivor fan you must have this album. Many of the songs will grow on you after repeated listenings. Any non-fans will probably never see this review or ever come across this album, it's that rare.
Its about time!.......1999-07-25
This CD has been out of print for a long time... even as an import. Well, its finally available. If you've heard Survivor perform the song "Caught in the Game" in concert and wondered what album it was from, this is your chance to hear it! If you buy ONE CD this summer... buy the Star Wars soundtrack. But if you buy TWO CDs this summer, buy Survivor: Caught in the Game. You will not be disappointed!
