Originally intended as a stopgap record following the massive success of Nirvana's Nevermind, the archival Incesticide album has taken on an added significance in light of subsequent events. Consisting of outtakes, demos, non-album singles, and live BBC sessions, it's a fascinating if less-than-truly essential listening experience. Highlights include the rip-roaring childhood memoir "Sliver" and its caustic companion (from a pre-Nevermind single) "Dive." There's also a brilliant cover of the Vaselines' "Molly's Lips." Particularly harrowing, however, are Kurt Cobain's liner notes, which at times sound eerily like his suicide note, deriding the fame and money that came upon him like a tsunami, and ultimately wiped him out. --Daniel Durchholz

this is such an under-rated set of B-sides and demos. this is some of nirvanas best music! best songs dive, sliver, staind, son of a gun, polly and aneurysm. some of them though are just plain bad like hairspray queen and mexican seafood. still, a must own for any true nirvana fan or for just the casual listener.

Well, this album is for you!!!

I like most of the tracks on this album, although they are all kind of dumb lyrically...

but i love the versions of Aneurysm, Polly and Been A Son they have on here. have never heard those versions before and they ROCK!

Brilliant collage of Nirvana works and a must have album for any Nirvana fan. Whenever I hear Incesticide I think back to when i was 15 - 16 years old and would mosh around my basement in flannels with long hair and converse sneaks. We all were influenced so much by his music and style in the short time he was in the spotlight. That in itself is a special acomplishment. But that is now somewhat overshadowed by an eerie feeling every time I hear a Nirvana song, knowing that he (kurt)is dead and the circumstances of his death. He died a year younger than I am now at 27. What a bad ending to what couldve been a better story. He was one of the best singer/song writers of our time. Too bad it was such a short run. At any rate buy the album and peek into the mind of one of the great artistic geniouses of our time.

A handfull of essentials, a handfull 3.5 stars, and a handfull of garbage.

Don't feel like you fail as a fan if a third of what you hear on this album makes you feel like it was a waste of your money. Die hard fan or not, no one should feel compelled to like an album just because they like the band. Songs like Sliver and Aneurysm own hard, and a couple songs like Dive most fans of the band will like. There's also some garbage mixed in though that only hardcore-nothing-Nirvana-does-isn't-totally-awsome-fans would really enjoy.



Bottom line: Either find a cheap used copy, or listen to the tracks online and download the ones that don't blow.
