A little detour of the road.......2001-08-13
Hi, This time I have just bought this cd on a recent trip to NYC, Been myself an owner of previous material from Dj Wally, I think this is by far his most accesible work that can be enjoy by all fans from the old ones to newcomers, quite different from the music heard on "The stone ridders ride again" or "Genetic Flow". The art featuring a weird photo that features two small children featuring halloween costumes, it serves as a introduction to another strange and bizarre work of music, samples and voices that DJ Wally has created along his carrer. An interesting dj himself, this album could be describe as downtempo style, I guess it can be called chill out too, intense at times and shy and reflexive at others, useful on sunday evening before going to Bed, mixes quite well watching the TV with the MUTE bottom on, a pleasant surprise from other cd's which can be better describe as experimental music (see Luke Vibert, Jimi Tenor, Squarepusher and others) this album has a more moody vibe that for some people might be to chill and perhaps not noisy or dancy enough but for me altough the beats stay almost at the same rythm it manages to create different atmospheres on most of the songs, Look out for a great colaboration with fellow friend Dj Swingsett and track 11. It is not really a boring cd at all. I wrote this review because I felt it's a nice display of music, similar sometimes to "endtroducing" by dj shadow or "mad blunted jazz" by dj cam. If you are into this beats give this cd a try it wont dissapoint you. peace
