About the Artist
Melodic, modern songwriting with an edge; innovative mixtures of old and new styles; intense grooves with mind-bending samples, raw sounds intermingling with lush orchestrations.
Product Description
This third full-length is a 12-song gem, marking this fascinating Boston band's emotional adolescence, churning with themes of innocence snatched away, death confrtoned, creativity constricted and dreams explored. While still offering up the exotic, synth and sample-heavy sonic freshness fans know and love from their earlier releases, a more organic lifeblood courses through Little Minds, featuring silken slide guitars and a more straight up rock production. Customer Reviews:
Wonderful CD for toddlers and up.......2006-06-02
My three year old son loves this CD and listens over and over. We heard Itchie Itchie Ow one morning and he was singing it that afternoon and I knew we had to get the CD. My husband and I enjoy her voice as well, soft, calming and melodious - easy tunes to remember and about things to which kids can relate. She is somewhat similar to Laurie Berkner but Katherine's songs seem to have more relevance, i.e., kids understand muscles and bones and what itchies and owies are. I agree with the other reviewers; you will be listening several times a day so good thing adults enjoy as well!!
awesome cd!.......2006-05-10
My children and I saw Katherine Dines at our library. She is wonderful! We bought two cd's and this is our favorite! Myself my children and all the kids in the neighborhood love her cd's (3-10yr olds). They always ask for it in the car. Muscle and Bones and Hey Sam are hands down the favorites of this cd. I really enjoy listening myself. You won't be disapointed with this cd.
Katherine Dines is the best!.......2000-09-25
My 2-year-old son has had this CD since he was 10 months old, and he loves it! If Mama doesn't play "Sam" (his name for it) at least once a day, she's in trouble! The songs are easy to learn and remember, the tunes are memorable and--great for this adult who has to listen to it over and over--enjoyable! Dines has a real gift for entertaining children as well as educating, and this collection is one of her best.

Product Description
This landmark CD represents the first-ever complete compilation of string quartet works by American composer George Antheil (1900-1959). Each of these works was composed during a different stylistic era in Antheil's development, and a great deal of historical research was conducted prior to the recording sessions in order to closely match the composer's original intentions. The result is a tour through 20th century music history that will sound both familiar and unfamiliar to concert-goers. The release is accompanied by a 20-page booklet with historical photos and an essay by Italian musicologist Mauro Piccinini.

Album Description
A cross-over artist defying definition, Amy X Neuburg twists multiple musical stylesfrom cabaret and hard rock to classicaltogether into something all her own. Her wildly inventive lyrics range from the poignant to the absurd, touching on social and political issues in surprisingly personal ways.
The 12 songs on "Residue" capture the spirit of Amy's live performances, where she loops and processes her voice, accompanying herself with rhythms and textures using electronic drums. The madness of "Residue" includes a comic soliloquy on stoned late-night shopping, hard-driving declarations on God, a lovely tender ballad "Finally Black," an ethereal telephone conversation between the artist and herself, and, at the peak of "The Tattoo Song," a demonic, cackling, three-octave "Ahhhhhhhhh" juxtaposed with a saintly ninth century Lacrimosa chorus.
Customer Reviews:
Intense, original musical delight.......2006-04-02
"Residue" was plugged by Amazon on a page for something else strange I bought, one of those "you may also like" or "people who bought this CD also bought" ads. I read the description and it sounded interesting, so I bought it on spec. As a famous dead Chicagoan one said, HOLY COW! She is sort of a Laurie Anderson for the 21st Century, only with a classically trained voice. There are elements of rock, minimalism, 50s and 60s electronic music, Broadway, old-fashioned country & western, Wagnerian wailing soprano, religious hymns and chant and, yes, the adored Ms. Anderson herself. It is fascinating to hear her pour out both her gutsy and fragile sides with such novel expression. This is the freshest thing I've heard since I first encountered Michael Gordon. For people who want their ears and brains challenged while having sonic fun at the same time, this disk is a must-buy. Her three earlier CDs, all from the 90s, are available from independent dealers affiliated with Amazon. I await their arrival.
the sounds of visionary voice from an electronic perspective.......2005-02-06
Amy X Neuburg is so cool & hip & brilliant! I first found out about her because she performed in an avant-garde classical music festival in NYC, & she stood out to me because her personality is very energetic & her music ideas are so unique. The music on this cd is so intricately, perfectly composed! Her lyrics are always right on in terms of their clever humorous quality AND the sounds of each syllable AND dramatic tension. She really balances everything in the world so well. She did a concert in New Zealand in late 2004, & the review in the newsaper there said that she had apparently gone to the future & taken the future's sounds back to here for her music! She makes music with her voice that I've never heard anything else sound like. & she makes equally brilliant exciting with so much else too!! From static & music to sing while skipping across a bar to a toothbrush & piano, from weird maudlin warbles & mutters to, finally, in harmony with a great whorl of voices, her glistening billowing collected classical voice you could hear over an orchestra (or over a studio full of computers). Monologues, strange telephone calls, meditative monotone chanting, lots of fun. This is one of my favorite CD's! I hope this review has been helpful to you!
Absolutely Amazing Album.......2004-11-01
This album has the capability of appealing to fans of pop music as much as lovers of the art-rock avant garde. The lyrics are personal yet accessible. The looping and other means of electronic production do nothing but enhance her musical efforts, not distract from them. With such a tremendous voice, hearing six layers of it at the same time translates to an amazing music exerience. The focus really is on the songs, the electronics are there to enrich the compositional intent. You don't feel like you are in the middle of sampler and drum machine circus. Everything is written and performed by her, frequently many layers at a time. It is hard to pinpoint any one artist that would be comparable to her work. There are however, some tracks that could be compared to the work of others ("Residue" has elements of Bobby McFerrin's "Circlesongs," "Finally Black" has the lyrical stylings of an Afro-Celts tune, and "Stone" seems like a Philip Glass opera gone rock). With one person composing, performing, and producing everything, the result is an album full of well-crafted songs that will impress any listener. I can't speak highly enough about it... BUY IT!
As good as her live concerts.......2004-06-15
I was waiting for this album, and I'm not disappointed.
Amy X Neuburg performs solo multi-track musical compositions live using her voice, a looping machine, and a drum-pad controlled synthesizer. Each performance starts from nothing and builds as she layers rhythm and harmony into the loop. Add to this her incredible voice and creativity, and you've got something that must be heard.
The Residue album provides studio recordings of a number of songs as I remember them being performed live. I consider this an important quality of the album because part of a live Amy X experience is the awe that one feels realizing that the complex songs are being created and mixed just as one is listening. That said, I feel that many of the recordings have been enhanced or edited in just a few places, which is only to be expected. This is a studio recording, not a live performance. But most of the time the differences from Amy X's incredible live performances are subtle, and improve the song.
The album includes my favorite Amy X songs: Stone, Every Little Stain (the toothbrush song, listen at the beginning), My God (with its a cappella harmony), Insomniac, Just a Sound, and Life Stepped In.

Farflung - 'So Many Minds,So Little Time' (Cleopatra).......2004-02-17
I had recieved this CD by total surprise,as I've heard of Farflung before.I've apparently met a member of the band before as well.Turns out that guitarist Tommy Grenas had been out on tour with Nik Turner before. My guess is that Grenas had probably picked up a few tricks along the way.'So Many...' is a way-out-there sounding compilation CD.I am VERY impressed with what it has to offer.I remember hearing "Vision Of Infinity" on some Cleopatra label various artists disc.My other favorites are "Landing On Cydonia",the Can cover of "Future Days",the ass-kicking "Mother Orbis" and "The Way The Sky Is".Top grade modern day space rock/industrial release.
Hawkwind fans can branch out with this one..........2001-04-14
I bought this album one day mainly because I couldn't find anymore Hawkwind albums in the record store I was at, and I had heard that some of the people in Farflung had supported Nik Turner. While Farflung music isn't strikingly similar to Hawkwind, it conveys some of the same spacey feeling. There are two great heavy-riffing songs, "Vision of Infinity" and "The Way The Sky Is", that satisfy the need for the heavier,Lemmy era of Hawkwind music. "Landing On Cydonia" and "Icarus/Daedalus" are both excellent examples of a more epic-length audio journey through space. The second half of the album lacks catchy themes and thus isn't that memorable, but is quite good none-the-less. This is a good album, probably better than several of Hawkwind's more questionable albums, and well worth the money.
