More Filler than Hits.......1998-06-29
As with the first three volumes, too many unfamiliar songs clutter the collection, and too much AC without any variation into other early 80s genres is simply too much after the fourth CD. All original versions.

Customer Reviews:
a really strong soft rock album; Michael McDonald is all over this thing.......2005-05-19
This debut album from Amy Holland came out in 1980, and as anyone reading this is probably at least vaguely aware of, Holland went on to marry Michael McDonald in 1983. Her future husband is all over this album, as is Patrick Henderson with whom McDonald had previously collaborated with--they produced the album together, and they also play on every track, alternating between acoustic and electric piano. Naturally, McDonald also contributes background vocals. McDonald was at his Doobie Brothers peak during this period, so it's no surprise that this ends up being a highly enjoyable album with not very much to complain about. The performances are ultra-professional and vibrant with Holland's vocals being extremely tasteful and pleasant. Things do get dull occasionally, for instance on the weepy ballad "Looking For Love", but for the most part, the album is a real pleasure. Dan Seals did a great, driving, funky version of the Paul Bliss-penned "How Do I Survive" on his "Stones" album from the same year; Holland's version, which became a US top 30 hit, doesn't have the urgency of Seals' version, and instead goes with a more relaxed, casually funky vibe, ending up with an infectious version in her own right. "Here In The Light", written by McDonald & Henderson, is a gem in the vein of the Doobies' "Open Your Eyes" which they also wrote. There's a sumptuous, brilliantly reinterpreted version of Dan Fogelberg's "Stars"--it's done in a lush ballad style, and it's far superior to his own version from his debut album "Home Free". Holland co-wrote one song with the catchy "Don't Kid Yourself", and there's one Michael McDonald solo composition with the marvelous "Show Me The Way Home", an uncanny groove tune that's relaxed, yet funky, and loaded with McDonald's trademark syncopation. This is a very strong album, and if you're a big McDonald fan, this album is a must. Any fan of late '70s/ early '80s soft rock should get a lot out of this.
(P.S. This album was released on CD by Magic Records, and I'd recommend that you don't pay a lot for it... I have a couple of CDs from Magic, including Amy's follow-up album "On Your Every Word", and they each have some real sound quality issues, seemingly having been "remastered" from vinyl and/ or cassette copies. So, for the time being you may well be better off sticking with an original vinyl copy (in solid condition, of course), and if you like, transferring it to CD yourself. May the buyer beware.
Amy Holland's Debut Album.......2002-08-17
I remember "Here in the Light" and "How Do I Survive" as FM favorites in the early 80's. I've hung onto the vinyl for years and it's nice to finally see Amy Holland's album on CD. This ranks right up there with Bossa Nova Hotel, Pages, Rumours, Silk Degrees and AJA as a durable West Coast classic.
What a voice!.......2000-07-21
After hearing Amy (McDonald) Holland's incredibly unmistakeable voice on her husband's album, it made me want to get another copy of this CD (I wore the cassette out). Amy has a great voice that takes you to every emotion. This is an enjoyable collection that will bring you back.

Mrs. Michael McDonald's Got Some Pipes!.......2003-05-13
There is no denying that the ever-so-lovely Mrs. McDonald can sing with the best of the best! Every track on this CD is a gem-loaded with talented musicians and lush arrangements! It doesn't hurt to have the likes of Michael McDonald, David Pack, and Tom Scott hangin' around the studio to help out either! This Dutchgirl can really sing and if you don't own this CD or Amy's self-titled 1980 release, you're missing out! Also, the final track entitled "Rollin By" just so happens to have the finest guitar solo ever recorded at the very end of the song! Steve Lukather of TOTO rips a bluesy tearful solo that is so beautiful I guarantee tears of your own when your ears notify your heart that somethin' sad is goin on! Amy voice is a joy throughout the entire CD but that Lukather solo on "Rollin' By" is worth buying the CD alone! Don't miss this gem! Enjoy!
More Please!.......2003-03-22
I first became a fan of Amy Holland's music via her superb first single "How Do I Survive" so I was definitely in line when this excellent followup collection was released. I was even more excited to find that both collections have finally been released on CD!
Although I love both collections, I think that if I had to choose one, this 2nd collection would be the one. It's gorgeously produced and features a terrific mix of uptempo and ballads - all of which feature great lead vocals as well as supporting vocal and backing instrumental work that is seamless (they make it seems so easy!). I think this collection is a must for anyone who liked Linda Ronstadt in her mid 70's hey day - but for anyone who loved (and still loves) that breezy Southern California sound popularized by Steely Dan and The Doobie Brothers. I love playing this disc in the car as well as poolside - a ever so gentle reminder that the musicianship of today simply pales by comparison! I still hope that more is on the way, someday.
On Amy Holland's Every Word!.......2001-10-05
This was one of best undiscovered releases of 1983. Anytime You Want Me should have been a top ten hit and received endless airplay. It's just one of those songs that you can't resist playing over and over again. The production values, musicians, and writers of this album are all superb. The entire album is so well constructed it leaves you feeling both contented yet wanting another album just as perfect.
Very Melodic.......2000-06-24
I really enjoy listening to Amy Holland's voice. She is very talented in the way she can make the listener feel so moved through her soothing voice and her meaningful lyrics. Amy Holland's best known song is Shooting For the Moon, which was the victory song in the 80's movie Teen Wolf. I rate this album 5 stars because I enjoy every single song. This is not like most albums in which a few of the songs are not enjoyable. I highly recommend this CD and I guarantee you will enjoy each and every song.
