Thanks to a fortuitous intersection of talent and fate, 22-year-old Josh Groban hasn't finished his senior year in performing arts school but has already released his sophomore effort on a major major label. Fans of the young vocal phenom's debut will find much to enthrall them here, even if it nudges the singer closer to the center of producer/mentor David Foster's MOR pop sensibilities. Eschewing much of its predecessor's more overt classic-lite pretensions and pop-rock covers for a slate of dramatic, Eurocentric ballads that serve as a showcase for the singer's inviting baritone, Groban shrewdly positions himself as the American alternative to the Bocelli-Watson crossover axis. "Caruso" may find the singer falling short of its operatic inspiration, but "Oceano" and "My Confession" quickly showcase his true dramatic range (which seems to all but yearn for a bona fide Broadway musical challenge), while a vocal take of Bacalov's graceful "Il Postino" theme uses classical virtuoso Joshua Bell's violin flourishes to good effect. To his credit, Groban displays some promising efforts at songwriting collaboration on the bittersweet "Per Te" and "Remember When It Rains," while the ambient/ethnic soundscape of Deep Forest's "Never Let Go" offers a teasing alternative to the record's otherwise melodramatic production formula. Groban has found commercial triumph via Foster's mentoring, but there remains a nagging sense here that he hasn't truly pushed himself as an artist--yet. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:

On his sophomore CD, Jason Aldean, the Academy of Country Music's Top New Male Vocalist for 2006, continues to rely on a proven formula--recording several John Rich co-writes, and reprising producer Michael Knox--while pushing harder on the rocking side of his Georgia roots. A platinum-seller his first time out, he stocks the new album with songs from reliable hitmakers (Brett James, Jim Collins, Tom Shapiro) to score at radio (watch for his duet with Miranda Lambert, "Grown Woman"), but also isn't afraid to get edgy ("Back in This Cigarette," about an anguished breakup). A serviceable baritone, a hat act with pierced ears, Aldean relies on attitude when all else fails, and it works. "Johnny Cash," his rocking ode to rebellion and rebirth, is the fastest-rising single of his career. --Alanna NashAlbum Description
Jason Aldeans new album Relentless is a giant step forward. After achieving Platinum success with his debut every one involved knew that the best was yet to come. Jason has grown so much in the last 2 years and it shows in the songs that he has delivered for this album.Customer Reviews:

Solid.......2007-06-28
There are a lot of really good tracks on the CD including "I Use What I Got", "Cigarette", and "Laughed Until We Cried."
The first single, "Johnny Cash" is okay... it's just too manufactured for radio... it's just not a natural song, which seems to be a theme with these songs. A lot are a product of the Nashville songwriting formula.
At times, the songs sound dangerously close to Rascal Flatts, which is bad. That's not something anyone should aspire to be.
All and all, it's a solid album and I like it. He makes it work, and his voice is awesome. I just wish he wasn't touring with Rascal Flatts so I could actually see the man in concert. Good thing he'll be around for years to come.

Smothered by the indulgence of his rock star ranking, Jack White steps into the eccentricities of the supergroup, and at first glance, this seems to be a band where White's imposing presence could overshadow the rest. Not the case with these Raconteurs. Teaming with fellow Detroit songwriter Brendan Benson and Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler, the rhythm section from Cincinnati band the Greenhornes, White exhales a bit, deferring enough to his mates to make Broken Boy Soldiers play like a team effort. Following the Benson blueprint, "Steady as She Goes," which opens as a slice of 1960's radio pop, the record steers away from pigeonholing the rest of the way. White's in a Middle Eastern mood for the title track as he pulls off a wicked Robert Plant howl, while Lawrence and Keeler excel on the chorus-strong "Intimate Secretary" and the optimistic acoustic rocker "Yellow Sun." Like so many all-star bands before them, The Raconteurs could be one and done. But don't place the blame on this fertile and genuine debut. --Scott Holter

Album Description
The Raconteurs are a new band made up of old friends, consisting of Jack Lawrence (bass), Patrick Keeler (drums), Brendan Benson (guitars, vocals, keys) and Jack White(guitars, vocals, keys). The seed was sewn in an attic in the middle of a hot summer when friends Jack White and Brendan Benson got together and wrote a song that truly inspired them. This song was "Steady, As She Goes" and the inspiration led to the creation of a full band with the addition of Lawrence and Keeler. While each of these four individuals have had successful careers with their own bands, the culmination of all of their talents is what truly makes The Raconteurs a force to be reckoned with.Customer Reviews:

Josh Groban in Concert has all the ingredients to be a long-running PBS staple: a young (21), good-looking performer with a golden voice; songs in Italian and Spanish for the crossover crowd (i.e., Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman) and pop and movie songs for the mainstream; guest stars galore (David Foster, John Williams, Angie Stone, Andrea Corr, Lili Haydn); a large orchestra; and striking but not obtrusive visual effects. The centerpiece of this DVD-CD combo (also available in a DVD keepcase) is the 80-minute concert DVD, filmed in Pasadena in October 2002 and featuring numerous songs from Groban's debut CD, including "You're Still You," which catapulted him into stardom when he sang it on TV's Ally McBeal. There are also two new songs--the ballad "Broken Vow," with Groban accompanied by Foster, and "For Always," with the orchestra conducted by John Williams, who wrote the song for the Steven Spielberg film A.I..The 37-minute CD offers seven songs performed in the concert (including the two not on the previous CD, "Broken Vow" and "For Always"), plus "O Holy Night." The DVD has excellent picture and sound (PCM stereo, Dolby Digital 5.1, and DTS), interviews, and backstage footage, and the combination with the CD is an excellent value. Groban's fans, of course, will consider it a treasure at any price. --David Horiuchi

As fans of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy know, each film exists in two versions: the theatrical one and the extended one that appeared on DVD. This luxurious box set--which also comes with a detailed essay on the movie's musical themes--features the full extended score, so many cues not on the CDs of the individual movies are included. Granted, the majority of listeners will be perfectly happy with the shorter versions of the scores--it's a safe bet that most people can live without hearing, say, Ian McKellen's 35-second-long ditty "The Road Goes Ever On" at the beginning of "Bag End," or Viggo Mortensen's performance of his own composition, "The Song of Lúthien," within the track "The Nazgûl." But if you're a completist and/or a devotee of Howard Shore's pounding tympani and overwhelming choral compositions (featured particularly prominently on disc 3, a large chunk of which is devoted to a battle scene), then this set is a dream come true. Audiophiles should note that the fourth disc, a DVD, offers the score in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. Fire up those speakers so the whole shire can hear. --Elisabeth VincentelliAlbum Description
An epic film score receives epic treatment with The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring/Complete Recordings. Released for the first time on CD, the complete score for the first film in the Lord of the Rings trilogy contains more than 180 minutes of music on three CDs plus a DVD-Audio disc of the entire score in Surround Sound. Breathtaking and majestic, the 2001 Oscar and Grammy winning score compsted by Howard Shore also includes Enya's Oscar nominated "May It Be." For fans of any of The Lord of the Rings films, the Fellowship of the Ring/Complete Recordings is an essential experience.Customer Reviews:

Though fans shouldn't mistake this various-artists soundtrack for the next Toby Keith album, the music for Keith's star-turn film (also featuring Kelly Preston, Burt Reynolds, and Willie Nelson) builds from reflective balladry to unbridled, triumphant rock. It may be hard to separate the thematic sequencing from the movie it accompanies, but the soundtrack itself tells a story. It begins with Keith's melancholy, violin-drenched duet with Lindsey Haun on the title track; progresses through the spiritual uplift of a revival of "Uncloudy Day" that finds Willie Nelson and BeBe Winans joining Keith, as well as Sonya Isaacs's testament to faith on "The Battlefield" (with harmonies by Vince Gill); and culminates in the rambunctious "Big Bull Rider," the bluesy boogie of "Zig Zag Stop," and the full-throttle rock 'n' roll of the closing "Jacky Don Tucker (Play by the Rules, Miss All the Fun)." Matraca Berg, Fred Eaglesmith, and Keith's running buddy Scotty Emerick are among the others contributing tracks. While Keith sings on only 7 of the 13 cuts, there's a unifying vision throughout. --Don McLeeseCustomer Reviews:

It's easy to see why newcomer Jason Aldean scored big right out of the box--"Hicktown," an anthem for the way-off-the-interstate nation, not only captures the pride and the humor of the blue-collar crowd ("Well, you can see the neighbor's butt crack nailing on his shingles"), but was written by John Rich and Big Kenny of Big & Rich (with Vicky McGehee). That might be a lucky break for this Georgian's debut, but Aldean managed to nail four other John Rich songs, including "You're the Love I Want to Be In," which the singer cowrote with Rich and McGehee. Strong songwriting rules throughout, whether the subject is dysfunctional relationships ("Why"), hurtin' hearts ("Even If I Wanted To"), lonely truckers ("Asphalt Cowboy"), or reassessing one's own life in the reflection of a passing hearse ("Good to Go"). Producer Michael Knox tailors Aldean's sound toward one thing--fitting in on the radio--which means he borrows from everybody: "Amarillo Sky" kicks off with a Celtic, Keith Urban-like intro, "Lonesome USA" recalls the gangly twang of "Guitar Town"-era Steve Earle, and the rocking drive of Big & Rich is everywhere. Though Aldean shows promise as a writer, he's no special shakes as a vocalist. But he brings a solid Everyman's tenor to play (think Kenny Chesney), and he sounds as if he's lived every word. Make room for another chart-topper. --Alanna NashAlbum Description
Jason Aldean co-wrote three of the eleven songs on his self-titled debut, including "Even If I Wanted To," "You're the Love I Want to Be In" and "She Loved Me." Since Craig Morgan continues to belabor the fact that he's just a regular guy, it should come as no surprise that his fourth album is nothing special. Morgan's voice is pretty ordinary, and the material leaves no country cliché unturned. If he is what he sings, Morgan is a small-town, tractor-driving, church-going, beer-drinking ("now and then"), family-loving, flag-waving, one-woman Southern man. He is, as he sings in "I Am," "just like you, baseball, and apple pie." He's also a guy whose conception of "Sweet Old Fashion Goodness" doesn't preclude an occasional "little bit of yeehaw in the hay," as he sings in the title track. Ballads bring out the best in Morgan, but he has to learn to distinguish between the disarmingly tender ("Tough") and the hokey ("The Ballad of Mr. Jenkins"). --Don McLeeseAlbum Description
Craig Morgan - Little Bit Of Life. When you look at the Country Music world it is made up of a lot of different types of people but there is no question that Craig Morgan is Country! Craig lives a country lifestyle, he is a dedicated family man with 4 children, a former Army Ranger and an avid outdoorsman. He drives Ford trucks has 4 dogs and his favorite album of all time is John Conlee's Greatest Hits. This new album reflects his passion for a country life. In concert and on his CD's Craig is able to express his emotions and reverence for that life and his fans love that about him. 2005 was a very busy year for Craig Morgan. The release of My Kind Of Livin' marked his 3rd album release. The 1st single from that album " "That's What I Love About Sunday" served notice to Country fans, radio and retail that this was the beginning of something very special. "Sunday" went on to the #1 position at radio and held that spot for 5 consecutive weeks and ended the year as the MOST PLAYED single of the year. The follow-up single "Redneck Yacht Club" continued that pattern and made its way to the #1 position as well. Craig Morgan was one of only 3 artists to have back to back #1 singles during the year and to top it all off Craig was nominated for an ACM award in the Top New Male Vocalist category. Not bad for a kid from Kingston Springs, TN.Customer Reviews:
