Not just another Tool clone!.......2007-04-12
I admit that when I first heard Chevelle on the radio I pegged them as just another Tool clone and had no desire to hear anything more from them. Then one night, a few years ago I was at a party and someone put on their Wonder What's Next cd. It instantly grabbed my attention and I asked someone who the band was. When they said it was Chevelle I was surprised and wanted to shrug it off but I couldn't ignore the impact it had on me. So I went home and sampled some more songs off the cd. There were a few I really liked right off... Forfeit, Closure and An Evening With El Diablo. I listened to those songs over and over and over for a couple months until I grew tired of them. Then I decided to give the other songs a chance. Well, I ended up liking the entire cd after giving it another chance and pretty much wore it out. So I was really looking forward to This Type... coming out. It definitely did not disappoint! I liked every song almost instantly...which is extremely rare these days. The emotion and energy that comes through along with the killer riffs and driving bass lines ... it's just powerful stuff. Combine that with the way the drums seemed to flow so well the with the emotion and melodies, you can really feel the sound on a very raw level.
No doubt Pete's voice and harmonies mock Maynards vocal style... and there's definitely some Danny Carey influence in Sam's drumming techniques but all in all, they really have their own unique style and sound. They're not as experimental as Tool though Pete's lyrics are often cryptic and the way their songs flow is very different. If you listen to the progression of their style and notice how they've developed and grown over the years, you'll notice some recurring patterns most of which definitely cannot be compared to Tool. You just have to give them a chance. I'd have to say Tool is definitely in my top 3 as far as favorite bands, but I'm not ashamed to say that Chevelle is right up there in my top 5.
Great CD.......2007-04-07
A lot of people compare this CD to others that Chevelle has done. I am just going to review it by itself. I have never really heard their first CD. My brother introduced me to Chevelle and I didn't think twice about it. A few months later, I decided to buy this CD and wow! It is a great CD. I love just about all the songs on it and it is one of the few CDs that I can play over and over in my car and never get sick of it. My fave song is The Red. Its not like the mainstream rock much like what MTV and VH1 plays. I hate that. They are unique and are not clones of other bands. I love the lead singer's voice too. If you want to get a good rock CD, I hghly recommend Chevelle.
Chevelle does it again........2007-03-04
Well I must say I was pretty impressed by this release. I was actually skeptical about picking this up because of some bad things I heard about it. Aside from the things said like it being generic, or tool-lite, or anything else thats negative, along those lines, I was able to put that aside and listen. I liked what I heard. Now I don't think its better than any past releases but I do think it comes close. There were actually some pretty amazing tracks. My favorites from this cd would have to be "Get Some", "Vitamin R", "Still Running", "Emotional Drought", and "Breach Birth". Heres the ratings for everything else...
1. The Clincher - 9.5/10
2. Get Some - 10/10
3. Vitamin R (Leading Us Along) - 10/10
4. Still Running - 10/10
5. Breach Birth - 10/10
6. Panic Prone - 9.5/10
7. Another Know It All - 9.5/10
8. Tug-O-War - 9/10
9. To Return - 9/10
10. Emotional Drought - 10/10
11. Bend The Bracket - 9.5/10
Overall: 96% A
Chevelle seems to always make a solid rock album and I'm anticipating their next release. There music, espeically this release, is full of emotion. This one has more sadness to it rather than the last which is mostly anger. Sure they aren't the best band out there but they still make good music and people should accept that and not just hate something for silly reasons. If you don't like the style then don't listen and stop complaining. You should only be able to complain if you are a fan of the genre or artist in the first place.
Wonderful.......2007-02-21
I recently just started to listen to this Band, and I really have enjoyed their lyrics and their melodies. I could listen to them for hours, and never get tired of their music. It use to be when I bought a CD I would listen to it for probly one or two times and them throw the CD somewhere, but this one was really good so I keep it safe. I really like the track Vitamine R. Thats my favorite song. I listen to it on the way to work sometimes it seem to be very soothing. My second favorite song on the CD is Panic Room.
A review of chevelle.......2007-01-26
I don't know why Chevelle hasn't gotten as big as it should be. Their talent, in my opinion, far surpasses the talent of some other bands out there, especially the vocals. (Um...no offense to fans because I like them too, but...As I Lay Dying? The guy sure sounds like he's dying.)
The songs on this Cd are great, except for Bend the Bracket. I've never been able to listen to the whole song. It makes me wanna scream and tear my hair out and stuff it in my ears just so I can't hear it (Well, not really, but close). But the rest of the songs show a side of rock music that isn't seen too much anymore - hard rock, good vocals, and great lyrics. Don't be mistaken just because, maybe you've never heard of this band before.
My 3 fave songs:
1. Get Some
2. Another Know - It - All
3. Tug - O - War

This Album rocked...!.......2006-02-21
I thought this album was pretty good (considering this was the first chevelle cd i bought). When I first started listening to it I only liked the first 6 songs....but when I listened to the other tracks it totally rocked!! Later on I found out by watcjing videos on MTV that Chevelle had yet another two albums...so I purchased those as well, I'm not saying I was getting bored of This Type Of Thinking...It was just something about the other two, that made them my top band. So...my suggestion is to buy this one first.....
GREAT CD !!!!.......2005-07-12
This CD ROX!!! I own it and i love it! Its my favorite CD in my collection.YOU WILL LOVE THIS CD !!!!
Great Lyrics, But Rather Bland Overall.......2005-06-01
Keep in mind that this is the first Chevelle album that I've ever bothered to purchase. That being said, I found the singles "The Clincher" and "Vitamin R (Leading Us Along" to be quite good lyrically and melodically. Just in case you haven't had access to a radio in the past year, "Vitamin R" is a clever song about Ritalin abuse with some haunting backup vocals that really give this tune a life of us it's own. "The Clincher" is a powerful song in every way about claustrophobia and the fear of being buried alive.
But aside from those radio hit singles, not much else in this album stood out to me. Chevelle writes some great lyrics and can pump out some moody tunes, but I thought that the album became pretty bland about halfway through. After the first three tracks, I honestly couldn't tell one song from another unless I really tried to focus. Peter Chevelle's vocals became much like the drone of one of my professors in a two-hour lecture. Two exceptions were "Tug-O-War" and "Breach Birth", which brought me back into the album for a few minutes.
The DVD portion of this album consists of the album encoded in Dolby Digital 5.1, interviews with the band members, and a remix of "The Clincher" called "(Version 103)". I was disappointed that there were no music videos.
Crap.......2005-04-26
Yea, alright Wonder Whats Next was a good album, Chevelle had a fresh sound, for about 3 months. The guy sings the same notes, making every melody drag on, he does what Chino from Deftones did only he fails to pull it off as well and the music gets old. The sound is alright. The songs, alright. Nothing special. Not worth the money at all. Listen to whatever albums you have of them and get off this band, they are doomed, hopefully sooner than later. Their first album sucked aswell.
3 for 3.......2005-04-15
Not only has this band gotten better with each album, but they were great to begin with. Chevelle is living proof thtat their still exists an audience for traditional rock music. Their is no glitz and glitter, no excessive electronics; just solid rock music. If you like albums like My Own Prison (Creed) and Tip (Finger Eleven) you should consider giving these guys a shot. If you have this album, you may even want to pick up their other 2 ("Point #1" and "Wonder What's Next") as both of these albums have the same great sound. To put it short and sweet, "It's a top 100 album." (This is coming from a guy with over 800 albums.)
