Road Trip is packed with fourteen terrific contemporary covers including Rascal Flatt's chart-topping `Life Is A Highway," Hoku's "Perfect Day,' and Christina Aguilera's "Here To Stay," as well as such family-friendly 60's, 70's and 80's staples as "Dancin' In The Street,' "The Locomotion," "We Are Family," "Holiday," "Vacation" and "Walking On Sunshine." New material from synthpop legend Vince Clarke - the new single "Let's Get Together" - alterna-rock darling Tanya Donelly - `This Is My Day' - and Cyndi Lauper's inspirational "Shine" round out the package.

The soundtrack to Road Trip veers away from the contemporary practice of hiring third-string alternative bands to cover classic rock tunes. That fact alone gives this entertaining collection a leg up on its filler-happy brethren. Road Trip--a cross-country, hormone-heavy romp featuring Canada's favorite headcase, Tom Green--boasts cuts from the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Kid Rock (featuring Uncle Kracker), Buckcherry, and even Minnie Riperton. The underrated "Voodoo Lady" by Ween gets a second chance, as do Run DMC's "It's Tricky" and Twisted Sister's "I Wanna Rock," which sounds awfully quaint several years after frontman Dee Snider's ugly mug scared a nation. The shifting gears--from rock to rap to pop to soul--make this vehicle work as both a film soundtrack and a great disc for a road trip of your own. --Jason JosephesCustomer Reviews:

Six Decades of Film Music.......2007-05-13
Excellent collection with fine performances.......2007-03-28
"essential film scores from 1939 to 2004 ~ Incredible Music".......2005-05-16
There are compilations and then there are "Compilations" beginning with a classic that even the youngsters today recognize "GONE WITH THE WIND" (1939) (Max Steiner), sweeping score that captures the tragic history of the South during the Civil War, one great cue after another, it doesn't get any better than this, nominated by the Academy for Best Original Score...and closing on Disc 4 with "THE INCREDIBLES" (2004) (Michael Giacchino), the big hit in computer animation from Walt Disney & Pixar that once again pit Super-Heroes against the forces of evil...our family of five Supers prove crime doesn't pay, but box-office receipts do...gotta love it!
Silva Screen Classics as usual, has put quality into this 4-CD-Set featuring The City Of Prague Philarmonic Orchestra and the Crouch End Festival Chorus conducted by Kenneth Alwyn, Bill Ashton, Paul Bateman, James Fitzpatrick, Mario Klemens, Derek Wadsworth, and Nic Raine. Recorded in "Dolby Surround" with the new technology of "HDCD", this is a "film-score-buffs" dream, one to treasure now and years to come.
Some selections are missing, but when you think of what Silva has included, it is impossible to please everyone...was happy to see "TOUCH OF EVIL" (1958) from composer Henry Mancini, as I feel this composer deserves all the recognition that has been overlooked recently in the music world...This collection is aimed directly at the "Serious Film Score" music fans and collectors...Silva is as always, perfect in every way...just the way we like 'em!

In May 1903, spurred by a friendly argument and a $50 wager, retired New England doctor Horatio Nelson Jackson headed east from San Francisco on America's first transcontinental automobile journey/race. That mother of all road trips is the subject of this Ken Burns PBS documentary, and its soundtrack evokes both the era and scope of Jackson's journey with the sympathetic grace we've come to expect from the filmmaker. The music here ranges from pre-1920 recordings by The Original Dixieland Jazz Band (the jaunty "Tiger Rag" and "Livery Stable Blues") to interpretations of popular music of the period ("Bill Baily Won't You Please Come Home," "Cecile") and modern originals performed and/or written by John McKuen, Tony Ellis, Earl Scruggs, Jacqueline Schwab, Bobby Horton and others. The emphasis is on folksy, guitar `n' banjo bluegrass stylings that conjure the dusty plains and rural mudholes of an America heartland whose highways were still mostly the unpaved wagon and horse trails of the previous century, yet tempered with the budding urban popular music of the growing towns and cities where Jackson and his grime-caked jalopy drew curious spectators by the droves. Skillfully woven into the musical feast are newspaper accounts and the reminisces of Jackson himself, read by Tom Hanks, George Plimpton, Tom Bodett and Murphy Guyer. -- Jerry McCulley

When they're not fighting hip-hop's "jiggification," the Infesticons have day jobs as some of New York's finest progressive artists. This concept album was conceived by poet, musician, and teacher Mike Ladd and executed by a team including Company Flow, Anti-Pop Consortium, Saul Williams, Sonic Sum, and Liza Jessie Peterson. Assuming characters both good (The Infesticons, freedom-fighting art purists) and evil (The Majesticons, jiggy drones who value style over substance), the all-star team generally stays true to the project's lofty themes. Sparse but friendly production switches moods when scenes change, and the intricacies of single tracks are compromised to craft a more complete album; the underdeveloped beauty of "Cave Theme," for example, actually works well as a link along the unfolding story. This is one of the year's more creative and theme-heavy releases, so bring some patience and a dictionary to really appreciate Ladd's holy war. --Hua HsuAlbum Details

Do Your Self a Favor.......2006-07-18
Meanwhile, the kids in the back seat stop harrassing each other as the soulful voice and choruses of Rebecca Frezza and her band command everyone's attention. Simply put, this album rocks -- this is Pearl Jam meets Crowded House meets Lisa Loeb for kids. Forget the Wiggles and Laurie Berkner, you and your kids will find yourself playing this CD again and again. Frezza finds and defines an underserved market -- kids too old for corny sounding blah blah nursery ryhme sounding retreads and comes up with something rocky, poppy and fun. The songs are tight, smart and fun. Her band rocks! This is a total mood changer!! There's no shame here when parents find an excuse to play this album again. We first heard about Rebecca on XM Satellite and we are now the happy owners of both Road Trip and Music in My Heart. We then caught her on Jack's Big Music House on Noggin. And now there's her new CD, Tall and Small, which we picked up at a local gig here in New Jersey. Frezza is the next "Big Thing" in kids rock -- she is an undiscovered talent that is worth getting to know now.
