4 out of 5 stars Another great trip down the MFU memory lane.......2005-10-19

Volume 2 (comprised of 2 CDs) is another first rate compilation of the series' original music and not to be missed by U.N.C.L.E. fans. The liner notes are wonderful and add a lot to ones appreciation of the music.

My only problem is that THE CDs ARE COPY PROTECTED! Considerable work is needed to get the music onto your iPod, if you really want the music in your mp3 collection. This is a major hassle and a surprise, since the first set in the series was not copy protected.

5 out of 5 stars The best of the three Double CDs ORIGINAL soundtrack release.......2005-07-12

Many of us have always thought The Man From UNCLE had the best music for a TV series ever, and this three double CD release confirms this. Wow! I'd be just happy with one CD, but having SIX (three double CDs packages) is absolutely out of this world, I mean, a lifetime wait come true.

Indeed, this is an unbelievable collection of three double CDs packages with the complete series soundtrack, and I mean the complete music, not a tune is missing.

And this is the ORIGINAL Man From Uncle music. Let me stress the point: this is the four years ORIGINAL soundtrack with the original recordings as they were heard throughout the series, not a no-name orchestra doing personal versions of the stuff. The audio transfer is very, very good, the music from late episodes is even in stereo.

Each individual CD carries over 70 minutes of music. All in all there you have the four TV seasons main titles and all, absolutely all of TMFU unforgetable music.

This is not a chronological release, meaning, all CDs have a mix of music from all four TV seasons. Volume 1 is heavier on early TV seasons stuff, fans of Jerry Goldsmith will love it. Those of us who prefer what Gerald Fried and later Richard Shores did with TMFU music, then volume 2 is mandatory. If you are a fan, you can't miss any of these six CDs. However if buying all three double packages is too much for you, you must go with Volume 2, no questions asked. Volume three is the weakest of them as it brings "suites" and a whole CD with "The Girl From Uncle" soundtrack, but you have a bonus "Open Channel D" beeper.

Each package is gorgeous, each with a glossy color booklet with extensive liner notes with details on how each tune was written to a specific TV series episode and how it was used onwards. You have bios on the composers, on how the recordings were made, even an overview on how many instruments were available in each of the years the music was recorded.

So, throw away your Hugo Montenegro Man From Uncle CD, this is the REAL thing.

5 out of 5 stars At Last!!!.......2002-04-03

At last, at last, at last, we've got a decent Lips Page CD and some real recognition for an artist who totally deserves it and who has been so unjustly forgotten. Hey guys, I've been looking for 'Take Your Shoes Off Baby or Stop Running Through My Mind' for decades. I loved it when I used to hear Lips do it at the Central Plaza in NYC in the late 1940s and it sounds every bit as good and is just as much fun in the early 2000s!

4 out of 5 stars Hot Lips Page 'Jump For Joy'.......2002-03-01

This is the Hot Lips Page I've been waiting years for!! His Columbia - Okeh and Harmony recordings have not been available since the 78 era and that's older than me. Orrin Keepnews, as usual, has done a fab job and the sound is fantastic. Do yourself a favor and buy this thang - someday people will know that Lips was a genius - an original - deserving of wider acclaim - could swing like crazy - was an A-1 singer - get down with the Blues and just think you were way ahead of them. Great notes by Dan Morgenstern too. Don't delay 'Jump For Joy' is a joy!!!!

I found this CD by accident, and it was definitely worth it. This guy can really play his instrument. The songs are unique and totally danceable. Plus, the sound quality is excellent; even though it's all lo-fi, it's been remastered very well. Definitely worth buying for use on the dance floor.

As gifted a vocalist as he was a trumpeter, Oran "Hot Lips" Page was perhaps Louis Armstrong's most inspired disciple. As a young man he toured with Ma Rainey, and he was a key member of the great Kansas City bands of Walter Page, Bennie Moten, and Count Basie. His trumpet was extraordinarily expressive. Muted, he could suggest a muttered aside, a Bronx cheer, or the wail of a freight train, while his open horn was a glorious, brassy declamation of life, each note receiving its own special inflection. This compilation from his greatest years introduces the fine bands he led in the period, from small groups to large, with saxophonists Earl Bostic, Lucky Thompson, and Don Byas among the featured sidemen. The often witty vocals range from the traditional dirge "I Won't Be Here Long" to the topical "Uncle Sam's Blues," and the music touches on the rise of both R&B and bop. --Stuart Broomer

5 out of 5 stars The GREATEST group ever.......2003-05-29

When you first look at these guys, you think "Oh, another teeny-bopper guy group." You couldn't be more wrong! They are so amazingly good, I saw them in concert at my school and my jaw just dropped. I even talked to one of the guys after, he was sooo nice. I highly recommend getting this album!

5 out of 5 stars THE DEFINITIVE Vocal Band album........2002-11-21

I didn't believe that these guys were a cappella when I first heard this album. In fact, I got into an argument with my friend who was playing it for me; there was NO WAY those were vocals.

Okay, so I had to eat a fistful of crow later.

It wasn't until I saw FOCS in concert that I became a true believer...and now, a complete convert, I spread the gospel. You MUST OWN this album. Not just if you're an a cappella/vocal band fan, if you're a rock fan, period. Paul, Oren, Stack, Dan, and Mike do tweak their vocals with mics and distortion, but they are at the heart of it all, and they're phenomenal. Needless to say, I haven't ever heard anyone like them. It's hard to pick best cuts off of this one...from HALO (Oren delivers Stack's kick-ass tribute to his wife) to Paul's I'M RIGHT (some days, you've gotta have an attude) to the thoughtful INSIDE HER MOUTH to Stack's INTERLUDE #3/RHYMES WITH ORANGE ("instrumental" jam session, sans instruments), you can't lose.

Take it to the gym and get a good workout, put it on at a party, pop it in your discman on the way to work...this one will live in your rotation, I promise.

              5 out of 5 stars Straight-up Rock, with a twist.......2001-03-06

If you've gotten this far, you already know that FOCS is a talented A Cappella group. They concentrate on creating a sound like traditional rock bands...guitars, bass, percussion, and lead vocals. They achieve this goal quite well, through some terriffic vocal work and a little help from the Engineering department. Many of their songs (title track in particular) remind me of Yes and early Rush. My favorite track, Interlude #3, sounds like it was lifted directly off of a Steve Vai record. Very impressive all around, and worth the money.

              5 out of 5 stars Five O'Clock Shadow's new CD is AWESOME.......2001-02-04

Wonders Of the World truly sounds like they have a full band.. vocalizations are incredible. Best song: "I'm Right." Definitely get this or another CD of theirs, it's well worth it!!

5 out of 5 stars This CD displays FOCS' amazing a capella talents.......2000-08-19

The first time I discovered the a cappella sounds of Five O'Clock Shadow, was when they came to my school and performed two years ago. Ever since then I've been hooked. Their sound is so different from anything I've ever heard. "Wonders of the World" takes this group to a new level. You think you hear electric guitars, drums, and other instruments but in fact it's the voices of the band members. The title track is a great song with a great beat. "Few and Far Between," the third track, slows the pace down a little as a heartfelt song. One of my favorite tracks, "I'm Right," includes a great lead vocal by Paul Pampinella. (By the way, what rhymes with latte? You'll have to check out the CD on that one.) "Aggression" has a distinct and edgy sound and includes amazing vocal percussion. "What's it All About" was one of my favorite songs from Five O'Clock Shadow's previous album "So There" (which is also great, by the way). And although the track on both albums is the same song, I like the sound of this new one even better. Throughout the CD, there are three interludes, which have no words, but showcase the group's amazing voices in a different way. The third interlude in particular shows David Stackhouse's talent as the vocal percussionist. And even when you think the CD is over, there's a little surprise at the end, which is very creative. You'll have to buy the CD to find out, but I'll give you a hint: Look at track 7. This CD is a must have for any a cappella fan and a great album for anyone else because of it's amazing sound. There is no real way to describe it; you just have to listen.
