About the Artist
Joose is: Sam Sharp, lead vocals and rhythm guitar; Brenden Wood, lead and rhythm guitar; Scott Mann, saxophones and keyboards; Todd Weiher, bass, vocals and keyboards; Robin Chilton, congas, percussion and vocals; and Dustin Rhoads, drums. Fool's Paradise is the bands second full length album. This album features 10 original works arranged and produced by Joose. The band, which has been playing and recording together since 2000, tracked and mixed this release in San Luis Obispo with sound engineer Kip Stork at Avalon Digital Recording. The album was then mastered in North Hollywood by Don Tyler at Precision Mastering. The album layout features the artwork of Kristin Moro.

Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

Top Shelf.......2007-01-04

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

The Head Cat brings together Lemmy (Motörhead), Slim Jim Phantom (Stray Cats), and guitar wizard Danny B. Harvey (Rockats) for a batch of cover tunes from Buddy Holly ("Tell Me How," "Not Fade Away"), Carl Perkins ("Matchbox"), and Johnny Cash ("Big River"). A longtime rockabilly fan and skilled harmonica player (as evidenced on "You Got Me Dizzy"), Lemmy does at times sound a bit out of place and tentative in a setting stripped of the unmitigated power and unsubtle glory heard on all the best Motörhead albums, but there's a rugged charm hearing him beside Phantom and Harvey, who lend authenticity and spark to the affair. If it all seems improbable, a related live DVD, Rockin' The Cat Club: Live From Sunset Strip , captures the three friends plus ex-Guana Bats bassist Johnny Bowler in action. Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister teams up with Stay Cat's Slim Jim Phantom for a rockabilly side-project. Um, just picture Lemmy singing rockabilly, and that pretty much sums it up. I thought it was going to be disastrous, but it was actually quite surprising and good. You're grandfather might not like it, but it's cool to hear a different and softer side of Lemmy.

This is one of those cds where I had to listen to it a few times to really start appreciating it. I love the first song "Sunshine". That's what led me to purchase it in the first place. After listening to it several times, several other songs are becoming favorites as well.

"Richard Alden", best of the best!.......2006-10-15

I bougth this CD only for the track #8, from my Fair Lady "I've grown accustomed to her face", played, arranged and directed by Richard Alden, the same Ronnie Aldrich. The arrange has a little more rithm than the version of Phase 4 Stereo in "The magic moods of Ronnie Aldrich". It sounds spectacular!
The CDs from Readers Digest have some themes from Ronnie and "Richard Alden", inedits and a treasures for who loves the music of that genius od the piano
The rest of the CD has pretty songs.

lyrics for your life.......2005-03-31

It's rare that I find a CD that's out of the range of my everyday tastes and end up enjoying it so much. This country rock CD is much richer than that limited label. The lyrics are original and penetrating. Here's a real person telling real stories to catchy melodies. They mirror the moods and stages we all suffer of frustrated longing, misfit loving, and wheel-spinning stalling. Even the saddest tunes leave you thinking something better's around the corner -- since something beautiful has been wrought from life's ugly moments.

Don't Waste the money.......2004-07-12

Unpolished lyrics and note transitions and a pretty crappy cover of tougher than the rest. The cd sounds like what it is and that is a struggling artists first (and what should be the last) cd. Don't be fooled by anyone who says this is remotely close to being good.

Fool's Paradise.......2003-01-04

I received this album as a promo. Not really into country music, especially traditional country music but this album grabbed me by my alternative rock roots and hasn't let go 18 months later. You'll find that the music tracks are not particularly "original" in style, but Greg and the boys find the groove for each song (style) and then simply claim ownership of it. But that's not what makes this album stand out, there are lots of good tracks and grooves here in Nashville. What makes this album stand out are the lyrics. Not the same ole "know the rhyme before its time" country victim BS. These lyrics are thoughtful, mature and add depth to a genre all too often light in content. Can't wait for the next album. Since you won't get a free promo copy for your magazine to review, I suggest buying this disc now.

Rootsy country with a wonderful tinge of Phil Ochs.......2001-07-04

Though Hawks' debut mixes strong elements of Bakersfield and Austin with a hint of the Beatles (by way of co-North Carolinian Chris Stamey's chiming dB's production touches), the emotional tenor often resounds more of folk singer Phil Ochs. It's not that Hawks tilts at political windmills, it's that he often captures the sort of romanticism Ochs found later in his career. Springsteen's "Tougher Than the Rest" is delivered with a tenderness and intimacy that liberates it from the plodding epicness of the original. Drummer Nate Stalfa's gentle brushes underline the meloncholy in a way that E-streeter Max Weinberg couldn't fathom.

The title track provides a powerful barside purge of sadness and frustration, while "Downtown Lights" leans on superb droning, mountain-influenced vocals that bring the pain of unforgettable memories out of the shadows. "When You Tell Me Lies" weds the same sort of wail to a bent, blue melody, ringing mandolin and a New Orleans cadence. Throughout, bandmate and co-producer Danny Kurtz (ex-Backslider/Whiskeytown) adds steady bass and backing vocals, and Mike Krause provides terrifically atmospheric electric guitars such as the sliding moans and wails of "Life and Love."

Great straight ahead roots country. Solid lyrics combined with a tuneful old time country sound. Will please the intelligent roots/alt country listener. If you like Dwight Yoakam's better discs, you'll enjoy this.
