Wonderfull Collection to have but no Orignal Art Work........2007-06-21

This is without any doubt the best musical presentation for STAR WARS trilogy with excellent remastering. Also, wonderfull music to listen.

It was arranged in same order as the movie and i think it has all the music from the films and more. Also it contain the original 20th Century Fox Fanfare recording for each movie which is rare to listen. In this way you can listen and enjoy the way was the music is recorded for each movie at that time without any enhancement, and that for Star Wars truly music lovers.

The only drawback i found that is lacking the orignal art work for each movie which are the finest and best ever. There are wonderful posters from different type, style A, B, C, and advanced, which i was expecting to see them again here or somewere els.

I was hoping and wishing from ( A Long Time Ago ... ) that they release again same original recording for Star Wars and Empire strikes back when they released first time in 1977 and 1980. I don't know why it has been decline ever since. At that time each movie released its sound track in two album with different and excellent arrangement. I believe this is a perfect arrangement and better in term of music listening. Im just hoping releasing them again with finest remastering.

A fountain of youth for a Star Wars geek.......2007-02-13

It has been a long time since I last dared to take out my old Star Wars LP, with its well remembered skips and pops. Now, thanks to the Boxed set of the Star Wars Trilogy, I can listen to it again as it was intended to sound, and as often as I like. It is like revisiting an old friend, but there are differences: for one, there is more music, and it has been restored to its actual running order, unlike the LP which cut and spliced a bit to create rounder, perhaps more balanced listening. But for a true fan of the films, it is deeply satisfying to hear the score in its proper order and entirety, even if at times it can ramble on or shift more suddenly than a typical symphonic work. That being said, John Williams is a master at composing for film, so that even taken out of context it is beautifully listenable.
The major drawback to the boxed set is the complete lack of liner notes or any kind of commentary--one of my favorite features of the old LP were the inserted notes. So much thought went into the score that it demands commentary. Admittedly, I haven't yet been able to access the "unlock and go" feature on the internet, so perhaps the lack of liner notes on the box is rectified there. Another surprise, given the fact that there is room on the CD's to include more music, alternate takes (and even an extended secret "inner groove" on the first disc), is that in the case of episode 6, music that was added for the new edition of the film is included but not the music it replaced. Admittedly this was the least interesting music in the soundtracks, namely the "pop" music in Jabba's palace and the Ewok's chant at the end, but for the sake of completion, it should also have been included. A minor quibble, and more than made up for by the inclusion of the 20th century fanfare and the second Cantina track.
All-in-all, this boxed set is a must for anyone for whom the original trilogy was a special part of their youth. It will instantly bring you back to that state of wonder when you first saw the films, and on repeated listens it will continue to reveal the genius of John Williams.

A New Hope:

What to say about Star Wars? It's all too known to say very much. But let me just point out a few things, instead. The Main Title track, after the fanfare calms, is quoting 'Mars' from Holst's 'The Planets'. "The Dune Sea of Tatooine" is a tribute to Stravinsky's 'The Rite of Spring'. The bonus track contains several different takes on the Main Title if you sit around and wait--there is a LOT of silence 'til it starts, but it's fascinating to hear the subtle differences from take to take. With "May the Force Be With You" and "Princess Leia's Theme", we have the beginning of the lovely, melodic leitmotifs we have come to associate with Star Wars music.


The Empire Strikes Back:

Both the best movie and the best soundtrack of the original trilogy, in my opinion. Whether or not you agree about the movie, the music here really is the best, from a professional standpoint and not just an "it's pretty!' one. Three huge things happen in this movie, musically: "Han Solo and the Princess", the love theme which is based on "Princess Leia's Theme"; "Yoda's Theme"; and, last but certainly not least, "The Imperial March". I believe the two biggest, most recognisable themes of the saga are the Main Title theme and "The Imperial March", which was constructed from half-developed "evil" cues from 'A New Hope', and also Chopin's "March funèbre, Lento" from 'Piano Sonata No.2 in B flat minor' (trust me, you know it).


The Return of the Jedi:

The only new themes (there are plentiful delectable motifs) to come out of this movie are "Parade of the Ewoks", which nearly succeeds in making the Ewoks themselves cute, and the extremely luscious "Luke and Leia". "The Emperor's Theme", introduced in 'Empire Strikes Back', is emphasised, and voices lace over the epic duel between father and son (not nearly as stimulating as the music or the fight scenes of the prequel trilogy). It is true, there are some slightly embarrassing tracks ("Threepio's Bedtime Story", "Jedi Rocks"), but somehow all is set right by the power of "Victory Celebration" (which evokes much the same in its feeling of somewhat tragic triumph that "Now We Are Free" does in 'Gladiator'). It closes the saga perfectly (and we won't be mentioning the Yub Nub song, thank you very much).


I might also mention that Star Wars themes do wonders for hearing intervals. And that knowing the intervals make relationships between themes throughout the saga that much more interesting.

I have never owned these before and I bought them for a SW Themed Party but constantly play them, if you are a fan these are a must own, especially since they include both end tracks for EP.6 the Ewok OE and the new Calypso one from the SE. Finally all of these Disc's are CD Text Capabile.

Quality could be better.......2006-02-14

This is the best way to get the soundtrack collection of the three original films. With some minor exceptions, the tracks are in the same sequence of the films so you can follow the story unfold the same as watching the movies.
The sound quality does leave a bit to be desired overall. Granted there is only so much that can be done from the original recordings, but it seems as though they tried to over-remaster most of the tracks and did not do enough with others. This has left many of the scores sounding thin, bright and shallow. For the price of this boxed set, I would have expected a little bit more time put into making this collection sound better. Ideally, having the entire saga re-performed would have likely offered the best solution for audio purists, though likely not capatured exactly the same feel as the original performance.
Essentially, this boxed set is a trade off between having the original scores of Episodes 4 through 6 and sacrificing the overall sound quality that a John Williams performance deserves.
For a point of reference, my sound system is a B&W and McIntosh combination with the speakers being the same model as what was used in nearly all recording studios at the time of the later half of these films.

Granted, they only need it for one composition (the last one, "The James Bond Theme") but still, without the guitar it's just not the same. Barry didn't compose this one so I suppose it was a bonus and I shouldn't complain, really. The rest of the music on all the CDs is fantastic. Some of the stuff I had heard before without realizing who had composed it. Very enjoyable, to say the least.

A Variety Of Classics!.......2005-12-06

John Barry has been composing film scores for over forty years and this is only scratching the surface of his productions. Never mind that the entire set is recorded by the Prague Philharmonic; it's pure to Barry's themes. While John Williams compositions ("Star Wars", etc.) are wild and flamboyant and Jerry Goldsmith's (Hoosier's, etc.) are mood pieces, John Barry crosses over all barriers and is amazingly diverse. Barry has recorded most of the exciting James Bond themes, melodramatic classics like "The Lion In Winter' and moody theme hits like "Midnight Cowboy". He also tugs at the heartstrings with compositions from, "Somewhere In Time", "Frances" and "Out Of Africa". He varies his themes for all types of films and few composers capture it so well.

There is over four hours of music in this set with a colorful and informative booklet.

Incredible Barry Collection.......2004-03-11

Any fan of movies will absolutley love this collection. Being a movie buff I couldn't wait to get this boxed set. Knowing Barry from all the James Bond movies, I did not realize his involvement with so many others. The orchestra is magnificent in all these themes. I'm listening to "High Road to China" right now and I'm drifting in the clouds in a Tiger Moth with Tom Selleck and Bess Armstrong. If you are familiar with a movie it will definitely have you seeing it again, if not the scores are still beautiful. Any fan of classical music will be pleased as well. Travellers will defintitely enjoy it for a long drive. I know from when I use to travel that music like this made the miles float by faster. I highly recommend these four CDs even if you just know a handful of the songs.

The best Star Wars soundtrack.......2007-03-02

While all the Star Wars films have extraordinary soundtracks, Return of the Jedi stands slightly above it's peers in terms of music. John Williams really went all out for the finale! The attack on the Death Star, Luke's final duel with Darth Vader, the battle on the Endor moon, Vader's funeral and celebration make this one incredible CD.

I love this soundtrack but - This release does not contain the "jam" that the Max Reebo Band plays while Chewbacca is being led to his jail cell......I wonder why?

A Final and Astounding Work of Art from John Williams.......2005-09-23

As always, John williams brings masterful composing to the Star Wars movie screen. The sweeping and spine-tingling score will leave you breathless and stick with you for years.

It starts out a little slow, but of course all the classic themes are present. The action picks up at track 7 (Dsic 1) The Pit of Carkoon/Sail Barge Assault. The moving track 8 will announce the arrival of the infamous emperor with deep male voices and dark themes, then we are swept back to Degobah for Luke's final meeting with Yoda in slow trumpets proclaiming Yoda's news and final announcement to Luke, finally we meet Obi Wan once again, whose conversation with Luke reveals stunning news with the trumpet theme of Skywalker and the warm, comforting violins. Comical additions such as Jabba's baroque recital and Jedi Rocks close the first disc with a slower pace, almost as if it were intermission.

Disc 2 opens with the playful Parade of Ewoks, a new theme created to portray the cute but deadly inhabitants of Endor, played on flutes, trumpets, and a variety of other instruments. Next we are introduced to the change in Luke and Leia's relationship with a slow flute and violin piece showing how strong their bond has become.

Track 3, Brother and Sister, Father and Son, finds the Skywalker theme as Luke tells Leia a wonderful secret, which transitions into their new theme. The Emperor's throne room conveys the serious danger of our heros in deep male voices and sweeping music. The three battle pieces are, of course, wonderful, but by far the best part is the piece matching when the rebels prepare to charge the Death Star in a great instrumental piece.

Last is the calm after the storm, the two tracks that are by far my favorite from this soundtrack. First is track 9, Leia's News/Light of the Force, in which we begin with a sweet, grand piece with Leia's theme and Luke & Leia's theme mingling in.
Next comes possibly the most moving piece of music created by John Williams as a lone trumpet breaks from the silence, playing the Skywalker theme, and it culminates in a tremendous and shattering climax, which settles back into the trumpet skywalker theme, as if in final send of, as Luke watches the man he had feared, redeemed, finally at peace.

Lastly, except for the extra tracks, we finish with the Ewoke celebration on endor, an amazing and wonderful piece of pure joy and revelation as we close upon our heros, all having found what they were looking for in the end, and see the final gathering of old friends.


Without a doubt, this is a must-have for soundtrack afficionados!

John Williams knows music.......2005-09-09

Okay, so this isn't my favorite star wars CD but it's good. I'm still hooked on Ep III soundtrack so that's why I haven't broken this one with repeated use. Still, ROTJ was an awesome movie and the soundtrack is responsible for much of the moodsetting. Happy or sad, the tune tells all.

Is it the best?.......2005-06-25

This soundtrack CD is probably one of the best John Williams has ever had and the best among all the star wars CD soundtracks of the classic ones. The songs are much more fun and lively. John Williams knows how to translate the music so well that it can blend in perfectly with the movie.

The compositions are really magnificent and the dynamics are really great. These are really among the unique ones. Very special indeed.

Some of the great songs are Jedi rocks (The part in the movie where Jabba The Hut is entertained by the new cantina band. The song is very lively and can really make your mood a lot better. Another one is the Victory Celebration (The last part where the death star was destroyed and they went to Endor to Celebrate.) The song really captured the mood of celebration. I loved it.

Sorry, I couldn't resist using Raymond Burr's awful line. But this soundtrack is indeed truly AWESOME! One of the best things about Godzilla is the music, which was so distinctive and so haunting that it made us overlook the cheesy special effects. More than any of his 1950's monster contemporaries, Godzilla's soundtrack gave the big guy a soul that spooked children and stayed with them long after they grew up into sensible adults. I still get chills whenever I hear those school girls singing the Prayer for Peace. Akira Ifukube was a genius whose music was an apt coronation for the King of the Monsters!

Great Addition to Your Collection.......2004-10-07

If you're a fan of the original Godzilla movie, American version or Japanese, both contain the same music. This CD is a dream come true for Godzilla fans in the U.S. The music sounds great, doesn't sound aged at all, but still old fashioned, which is good. Track 20, is probably the saddest and most moving song I have ever heard, long song also, 6:20, but it's worth the listen. Akira Ifukube is definatly the master when it comes to kaiju film music. The extra tracks are a treat as well, they are just the film versions of some of the songs, but still great. If you want to make your kaiju collection grow, then this is worth it, or if you just like orchestral music, then it's worth the wait for shipping. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

Origato, Ikufube-san!.......2004-08-24

This remastered CD of Akira Ikufube's original Godzilla score is an excellent addition to the fiftieth anniversary celebrations for the film series. Ikufube is constantly mentioned in discussions of the Godzilla films, and it's easy to see why: he always treated his subject seriously, even when the movie itself didn't.

Surprisingly, the music doesn't feel terribly dated. You can often pinpoint the age of a movie soundtrack pretty accurately, particularly 1950s sci-fi movies (the theramin is usually the giveaway). I don't think this is because Ikufube continued to score the Godzilla series well into the 1990s. Rather, I think his classical music training allowed him to create a score that was not influenced by the sounds of the time. "Classic" is an overused adjective, but it's appropriate for a score that feels relatively modern after 50 years.

The one thing that does date the music is the quality of the recording. It's in mono, of course, and the music is not as crisp as you would hear in a contemporary recording. Still, the sound remaster is impressive considering the age of the original recordings.

It's also interesting to listen to this score in comparison to Ikufube's later music for the series. The music is extremely somber, in contrast to the more adventurous tone that Ikufube created for later films. For example, Godzilla's "entry" theme is here (in tracks like "Godzilla's Rampage"), but in a much slower, more menacing version that is barely recognizable as the powerful signature it would become later.

At just over 45 minutes, there's not a lot of music on this CD. And of those, four tracks reprise earlier cues, just rearranging the cues to the order they appeared in the movie. There's also some Godzilla sound effects. Their inclusion is appropriate, considering that Ikufube created them with musical instruments! (This piece of information is one of my favourite tidbits from the liner notes, which are fairly good.)

If you're interested in the familiar Godzilla themes, you're probably better off with a compilation CD of Godzilla music: it will have better sounding recordings, and the themes are more recognizable. But for serious kaiju fans and film score afficianados, this CD is a treat.

Okay, heres the lowdown on this..........2007-02-26

I like breaks. Im a breaks guy. But Baby Anne just plays more of the same. Very bording disc and not worth my time. A lot of these guys will like breaks that all sound the same for awhile, but eventually (like myself a couple years ago), you want something different, fresh.

Thankfully, Jen Lasher totally unexpectedly comes out of nowhere and saves this thing. The songs on Jen Lashers mix seems to have more soul, and not just "beats". Although don't get me wrong it will get you moving as well. I dont usually listen to "The Knife" but the song on Lasher's mix is awesome! (opening track). This mix is always chaging and holding my interest.

What I really like about this collection, is that a lot of breaks guys will buy this for Baby Anne, and the ones that are ready for something new (and they all will at some point) will hear Jen's disc and be blown away. Its a great concept introducing people to new stuff that way. Jen Lasher is really hot, spiced up this cd and saved it for me. Now I dont care about Baby Anne being at Ultra, I hope Lasher will be there.

Final verdict: I gave it a 4 because, its not a mix that will change everything for me (like BT: Movement in Still Life) but is really good. Of course im referring to Lasher here. Baby Anne, youve heard her before and you get that again here. But if your ready to wake up, give Lasher a chance.

DISC ONE OR DIE.......2006-12-27

My boy picked up this cd a couple weeks ago and we immediately threw in CD1- baby anne. As usual, the bass queen didn't let us down with her unique florida breaks style. I'm especially in love with the first track, it just comes on so nasty and sounds ill with subwoofers.

I wish I could say the same for Jen Lasher. I guess she has her own style, but I couldn't feel it. I listen to electronic music everyday, and goto Ultrafest every year and try to keep my mind open... but I just wasn't feelin Jen.

Seriously, we haven't played CD2 since that day, and probably never will. Maybe I will open my mind one day, maybe not. BA rulzzzz

Another disappointing album from Baby Anne, but..........2006-09-29

I've been listening to Baby Anne for years, but lately her albums are aweful. She picks out the most horrible songs to mix together. I bought this album because I wanted to give her another chance to mix another classic, but alas, it wasn't meant to be.

I know you're thinking why did this guy give it 4 stars?!

Well, I bought the mix because it was Baby Anne, and I figured since it had another hot chick on the cover it made that much more sense to buy. I've never heard of Jen Lasher before now, but her disc blew me away. I've been listening to all kinds of techno for a long time and I figured it'd be another breakbeat mix, but was I wrong. Her disc is a diverse mix of electropop that's awesome to say the least. Too bad she hasn't made any other albums.

I'd say pick this one up to hear Jen Lasher's mix. Baby Anne's mix leaves MUCH to be desired, but you won't be disappointed with Jen Lasher's.

Schenker's Best .......2007-05-01

I've been enchanted with this album since the summer of 1984 (2 years after its release). It is definitely a summer album (see Desert Song), and the band / combination of Michael & Graham Bonnett is exceptional. Ulcer is hands down my favorite song ever...I challenge anyone who doesn't feel like they could conquer the world listening to this blistering track. Top to bottom, Schenker's best. Listen and enjoy...it's guaranteed.

Assault Attack is an album full of melodic and burning guitar licks and riffs. It is by far my favorite MSG album because it captures the essence of Michael Schenker's sound and provides the listener with some great songs. All the songs have something to offer. If you like melodic hard rock or are a guitar fan, check out this album.

"Ulcer" alone is worth the price!.......2006-02-23

When "Assault Attack" came out, I remember thinking, "Graham Bonnet? Hmmmm. We'll have to listen closely." The quality of Bonnet's voice is distinctive. Not a great singer but a ballsy vocalist. I'll take 'distinct' over 'technically proficient' any day. Having said all that, it is the _instrumental_ on this album that will tear your head off; "Ulcer." The lead break is one of the fastest, cleanest, most liquid runs off a fretboard this side of Allan Holdsworth with more menace and Teutonic swagger. Back in the day, I was trying to play the solo over and over on the LP, swinging back the tone arm to catch the solo's beginning. Amazing to this day. The other song, noted more for its rhythm guitar work is "Broken Promises." Great syncopation, nice fat, warm rhythm sound, and Graham Bonnet singing his guts out, which is what the tune called for. There is _no_ filler on this album. The rhythm section was killer and Michael's touch and tone was gorgeous. I'm warning you though: that solo in "Ulcer" man! WHEW!

It's probably the best Michael Schenker album ever!!.......2005-09-29

The trick here was the production. In the hands of genius producer Martin Birch, MSG reached a whole new level of efficiency, heaviness and creativity here. The eight songs are extremely good, the production is crisp and clear, you can hear all the lines of bass, guitar and drums. Bonnet is also singing very good, altough the lyrics continued to be bad, I mean REALLY bad (a sad characteristic of MSG albums...).

It's a shame that such line-up, following the best production job ever afforded to Schneker, would not have had the opportunity to perform on a single show! That's it! Bonnet was fired during the first gig! He was always drunk, could not remember previous album's lyrics, a disgrace! Go figure...

Good to see this on CD.......2005-04-28

I bought this back when it came out and it influenced my own guitar playing tremendously.
This CD contains some of MSG's best songs (all of his early work is pretty essential though) and is probably his most consistent CD.

Nuclear Assault were among thrash metal's most socially aware groups, making room for serious subject matter (and occasional goofs) in their careening speed metal riffing. They also remained closer to the world of hardcore than most of their peers, and at their late-'80s peak released some of the most uncompromising thrash metal offerings of the time. One of the Big Apple's few challengers (along with Anthrax and Overkill) to the Bay Area dominance of all things thrash metal, Nuclear Assault became immediate contenders due to the cumulative sum of its parts — not to mention, their extreme nature and their ability to back it up with solid musicianship. Produced by metal stalwart Alex Perialas, their first album, 1986's Game Over, was regarded as a breath of fresh air with its potent speed metal tinged with hardcore overtones. In the process, fans and critics alike instantly accepted it and the band was quickly off to the races. In early 2002 the band was approached by a mutual friend to reform for a couple of shows. Their first reunion show was a the Metal Meltdown in April and there they found out that there was a demand for the band to continue. They played the classic NYC venue CBGBs in May along with a show in Massachusetts that was recorded for a live album, released by SPV in early 2003. Currently, Nuclear Assault has just finished a successful tour of South America with the Sodom and is preparing for a European tour to support their first studio album in 10 years, Third World Genocide. Very Enjoyable Listen.......2006-05-08

This may not be thier best ever, but it's definitely a well written album with solid riffs and catchy songs. Props to Nuclear Assault for still being able to kick ass!

"Must be something out of Kafka's dreams".......2006-02-10

I am a big fan of 1980s metal and am always interested in what bands from the metallic heyday are putting out now (so many are still around proving how incredible their music was and still is). Usually, these albums from old bands are OK but miss the magic of their glorious past. Third World Genocide is an exception. Nuclear Assault's Game Over/The Plague CD is at the top of my all-time thrash albums. This CD is now right up there with it. They have not missed a thunderous beat. Every track on here is awesome, some of them incredible! Listening to this CD is like going back to the 80s and listening to a lost release. The energy, feel, noisy yet addictive riffs: it's all here! Also, John Connelly is one of the best thrash vocalists. Although high, he doesn't have a screeching voice like singers in other thrash bands. It is much easier on the ears.

The title track is as solid a thrash opening as I have ever heard! Thundering, yet restrained, drums and very dark and heavy yet catchy hooks! "Price of Freedom" has excellent riffs between the verses. "Human Wreckage" is highlighted by heavy, pounding drums. "Living Hell" just pounds away and has an addictive chorus and a nice, slow-down bridge with pleasant guitar. "Whine and Cheese" is a fun, punk-like track with smashing cymbals and light, humorous lyrics ("I'm going to sit here and whine, I'm going to whine about how my life stinks..."). I love this song! It is the one I remember the most and find myself humming. I could listen to it over and over! Then it's is followed by the amazing "Defiled Innocence"--awesome guitar riffs, a head banging heaven! The next four tracks are straight-forward, fast and furious thrash! "Eroded Society" is Cryptic Slaughter-like (remember them? A blending of punk and thrash). Like their past albums, Nuclear Assault likes to demonstrate their sense of humor (remember their blues segment on "(You Figure It Out)"?) and they do so here with "Long-Haired A$#hole." It actually sports some cool blue grass licks. The vocals on it are darn good and the guitar solo is very impressive. The lyrics are also very cool ("Well people with short hair and business suits they caused the S & L disaster/ We'll be paying for that for the rest of our lives/ But I'm a long-haired a#$hole...") These guys are versatile musician extraordinaires! It ends with the killer closer "Glenn's Song" (another of my favorites). Although, my favorite tracks are "Third World Genocide," "Price of Freedom," "Living Hell," "Whine and Cheese," "Defiled Innocence," and "Glenn's Song," there is nothing weak here. Just killer, old school thrash! Anyone who likes 1980s thrash and is skeptical of what these bands are churning out now, do not hesitate to buy this CD. Check out the audio clips (that's what encouraged me the buy it) and you will be made a believer! The CD booklet includes lyrics and a photo of the band (Glenn Evans gives the sign that his fans are #1).

Modern Nuclear Assault sound with a lot of the old in it.......2005-09-21

I really go for songs that have lyrics that mean something, and as usual Nuclear Assault provides in spades. They run the spectrum from 911 to adultery. Good stuff compared to what many bands provide these days.

On top of that the music sounds a lot like the original Nuclear Assault music. There are some changes, but not enough to keep the long time fans from recognizing who it is. For those that say this is not thrash, then they have forgotten what thrash is.

Should Have Known.......2005-09-20

I should have known that this album would suck because thrash bands from the 80's that are still around and they make a new album it always sucks,Kreator is the only thrash band that has made a new album that's good(Enemy Of God).I love Nuclear Assault's old stuff their first four albums.
John Connelly's voice isn't as high as it use to be but that's understandable because he's older.
The riffs are not good,the music in general isn't good on this album.
This is a slower album,the thrash doesn't come until half way through the album.
The song Third World Genocide is annoying.
The best song on the album is The Hockey Song because I love hockey,it's about the 2003 playoffs.
Nuclear Assault always has their typical goof off songs on their albums,this one being Long Haired A**hole(funny)the lyrics are awesome,it's old country hick music(sounding).

Major Disappointment..........2005-09-14

First off, understand that I was a big Assault fan back in the day..."Game Over", "The Plague" and "Survive" were major richter-wreckers that most thrashers loved. Funny, heavy and faster than hell...this band was the sh*t.

"Handle With Care" was also decent, but it was obvious that perhaps a bit of stagnation had set in. And that opinion was rammed home by the aptly-titled "Out Of Order"...no new ideas, nothing fresh, boring. Nuclear Assault, boring??? Yes, it happened. I didn't bother with "Somthing Wicked"...

Now the new album...I was really looking forward to it, but I can't understand what they were trying to achieve. There is not one memorable riff on this album - everything sounds like they wrote it in 2 minutes. The leadoff title song is the absolute worst thing they, or almost any band, has written - it sounds beyond dumb. A few songs are ok, thrashing old school style, but they are grade-b at best, and don't hold a candle to their old stuff.

The worst part is the singing...John Connelly sounds like he's whining, completely out of breath. And the "joke" songs are barely that..."Long Haired A**hole" was actually written over 10 years ago from Connelly's solo record.

Again, this is from someone who used to LOVE this band, so I know what they sound like when they kick a**. This ain't it.

I've been a VA fan since 'Learn' came out. This is an awesome, if not sad, CD. This is their last CD. With songs like 'Anger Battery', 'Tools and Drugs' and 'Immersion' one can't help but wonder "what if...". Pick this up.

Ladies and Gentlemen.. this is quite possibly my favorite album of all time! From the opening song "ANGER BATTERY" to the quiet 'goodbye' of "EXIT", Verbal Assault left us with this last collection of songs to 'Raise' our fist at, release some Energy on and shake our rear to. Anger Battery and Exile (the first 2 songs) are heavy and groovy, political songs that have enough energy to them to start a revolution. Then there's Immersion and They're Talking- which have this 'EMO' feel to them, and a great Chorus to them. ON is the last song from 1989 on this disc.. and was meant to keep the energy flowing into the next decade. The Last 3 songs we're recorded in 1991 and are a brief indication on where the band might have headed: Tools and Drugs has a very Prog-Rock feel to it, great Lyrics.Grounded is this heavy, lazy , beat-laiden feeling song..it feels like its title! and Exit, which is an instrumental, beautiful sounding 'Goodbye' with some improv. by the bass player. Folks let's all pray that this gets Re-Issued! Anyone who is in to Late 80's/early 90's Emo/Hardcore will appreciate this, it's a little different... but upon a few listens, I'm sure you'll appreciate this band for what they we're... a creative, beautiful, powerhouse of change and positive energy! Pick it up anywhere or anyway you can...
