Eclectic is a handle that is thrown around too often these days, but here it most definitely applies. Think you're a Nick Cave fan? Think you have the man and his music pinned down? Even the most ardent fan will be surprised and enthused by this fine and thoughtful collection of songs that have been gathered under the umbrella of "having inspired the songwriting of Nick Cave". From the rapturous gospel of Oh Happy Day, to the croon of Tom Jones, the unbridled sexuality of Cat Man to the Goyaesque malaise of Leonard Cohen, Original Seeds presents itself as the ultimate mix tape for not just Nick Cave fans, but for lovers of roots and emotive music everywhere. Dubious upon it's release, i have been fully converted to this fine compilation and can listen to this as a self contained album, regardless of it's intent.
