Album Description
Four years since his last studio album, and following up on his highest charting radio single ever ("Personal Jesus", from Lest We Forget), Marilyn Manson returns with "Eat Me, Drink me". Art openings, soundtrack appearances, and personal circumstance have grabbed headlines for Manson in recent months, setting the stage for the release of Eat Me, Drink Me, which is unquestionably the artist's most personal statement yet. Always the provocateur, in what may be the ultimate subversion of the code of aggro-rock, the songs are immediately catchy - all jagged guitar hooks, anthemic choruses, with an overlying glam-rock sheen. Lyrically Manson has never been more riveting, seemingly having enough to draw from in his own life and from society at large to present a fresh, snarling vision.
Customer Reviews:
By Far His Worst Album.......2007-07-20
I have been a fan of MM since '98 and I have to say that this album is a real let down. Almost every single song has a long guitar solo at almost the exact place every time, and some songs even sound similar to another before it! Out of the entire album, only about two or three songs really stood out as ok, nothing really blew me away.
I'll give him points for his style change, which sounds like a record from the 70s, sadly however, most of the songs are just boring. I have liked all of his past records, Mechanical Animals is what made me a fan, but I just didn't care for "Eat Me, Drink Me" at all. Hopefully, the next CD will be better
Eat some pickles first.......2007-07-20
Evidence and the Grave song are more classical Manson. I really experienced a great let down with this album when you think of some of the artistic mastuh pieces Manson Marilyn has dun in the early years of her career. Holy Wood was better but I will take this. The sound on this CD is often flawed and be careful when buying this because I had to send mine back 3 times because there is a lot of static and scratches on it. even when i buy at best buy it is the same scratches. I think the cover of this cd is offensive because the eyes are different colors and people like that should wear eye patches ya know. Best experienced when eating pickles I have found. The next album is called Trinity Dominion and I already have it because 300 were released overseas so I ordered one. If you want to hear it you should because there are 5 new songs and 7 unreleased ones that she did from 1998 to 2003. She is very pretty though I do not know why Rose divorced her.
Can't stop listening to this cd! .......2007-07-19
I have been a Marilyn Manson fan since 94' when I saw them live with Nine Inch Nails in Sacramento. I love this cd and personally have not been able to stop listening to it since I bought it! I was scared to buy it because of some of the bad reviews, but I'm glad I went with my gut feeling and went for it. "To each his own I guess."
The ones that make you come unglued........2007-07-14
This was a rather disappointing entry from Brian Warner. I don't think anyone would argue that "Antichrist Superstar" is perhaps Warner's best work to date. "Eat Me, Drink Me" is lacking good songs and memorable lyrics. There are a few standout tracks like "The Red Carpet Grave", "They Said That Hell's Not Hot" and "Heart Shaped Glasses", but these are countered with bland, boring tracks like "Evidence", "Are You The Rabbit?" and "Eat Me, Drink Me". This leaves a handful of mediocre tracks like "If I Was Your Vampire", "Putting Holes In Happiness", "Mutilation Is The Most Sincere Form Of Flattery", "You And Me And The Devil Makes 3" and "Just A Car Crash Away".
Mr. Warner needs to find a new gig. After collecting all of his albums and listening to him for 11 years, it seems that he has run out of new morbid ideas. It's time for a change. Is Mr. Warner going to be 50 years old and still wearing the silly spooky fake contact lenses? Is he going to still be writing teenage angst-ridden songs? I find Rob Zombie, Trent Reznor and Ozzy Osbourne to be more mature and even more daring with their music than Marilyn Manson. While "Eat Me, Drink Me" isn't bad, it's nothing close to five stars. In fact, I was more than a little bored this time around, and isn't that the worst criticism you can receive from a fan?
I needed to think about it, but..........2007-07-13
I decided that I love this album. I admit that at first, I was a little taken aback, not because the music wasn't good, but because it seemed so different than any of his previous works. But despite this, there were a lot of songs I found enjoyable and meaningful. I gave it a few listens, and each time, I became more impressed with the actual depth of this album. The more I listened to it, the more I realized that while it was different from any of his previous works, it was completely in keeping with his previous patterns. Let me explain why.
What I love about Manson is that each of his albums is different from the last, and incorporates and explores new sounds, themes and attitudes. Antichrist Superstar is a completely different album from Mechanical Animals, which is completely different from Holywood, which is completely different from Golden Age... etc. Each of his albums has explored a different mood and selection of themes, but at the core is always the fantastic artist who is Manson himself.
Maybe those who like their rock angry will be disappointed that there isn't much to headbang to. Maybe I am not as disappointed as some because my favorite of his works has always been Mechanical Animals, precisely because it was so deep and thoughtful rather than focusing on anger and rebellion. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Antichrist Superstar, but I enjoy Manson's music so much precisely because he is that AND much more. An exploration of love, be it the dark and moody love fitting of his music, seems to be the next logical territory for Manson to cover. If I had to choose only one artist to listen to for the rest of my life, I would probably choose Manson, and not because I consider myself a "Mansonite" - my musical tastes are much too varied for that - but rather, it's because he's one of the few artists whose songs could pretty much cover any and all of my moods.
With that in mind, I don't think this was his best work, but in my opinion it was not a failure by far. I personally find it to be a stronger offering than Golden Age, even though I also enjoy that album. If you prefer the angry side of Manson, you will probably disagree. Technically speaking, I was prepared to object to what initially reminded me of emo-style guitars on some of the songs (Red Carpet Grave, Heart-Shaped Glasses). However, I realized that he has always incorporated new musical styles in his music (come on, you know Golden Age wasn't pure rock/metal, yet most Manson fans still like it...). I personally don't like emo, and so I didn't care for these songs, but I can't in good conscience fault the artist for something he's always done. Keep in mind that I'm not saying the songs were emo songs, only that they had some musical elements that were reminiscent of emo. I also found "If I Were Your Vampire" to be the least strong song on the album lyrically, although not musically, simply because the theme of the lyrics sounded a little cheesy to me and not as genuine as the rest of the album. So, four stars and not five.
And finally, can we all grow up beyond accusing every single artist of selling out as soon as they stop sounding exactly like whatever the first album of theirs you ever heard was? People have accused Manson of this since Mechanical Animals, and with every new album he "sells out" according to a new batch of fans. I personally accept and prefer that artists grow and change. If Manson starts churning out cookie-cutter albums that sound just like Antichrist Superstar when he's 60 years old, then I'll say he sold out.

Roth, who turned the flamboyant-frontman role into an art form, turned out this solo effort after leaving Van Halen. Hiring two of the top instrumentalists in the hard-rock genre, guitarist Steve Vai and bassist Billy Sheehan, Roth created meta-arena rock--big, exaggerated rock music with heavy guitars. Typical entries included "Goin' Crazy" and "I'm Easy"; "Yankee Rose" had one of the more entertaining videos on MTV at the time. The cover of "That's Life," which closes the album, is predictably overblown, but Roth can be forgiven as it's obvious that he's not taking anything too seriously. --Genevieve Williams

'80's Perfection That Still Holds Up.......2006-10-14
Just in case you don't know, this CD has some of the best work all around by everyone involved; But obviously it's Vai and Seehan that steal the show with some of the most amazing riffing ever heard, even today. As good, if not better, than any Van Halen album; Nice variety of song styles, great drums, and lots of insane stringed madness. A true classic...
Great Album! Aged well........2006-07-27
I had this album back in the day and loved it. It's been shelved for a long time and taken back out. I must say if you haven't heard this one in a while, CRANK it up!
The Album kicks off hard with "Yankee Rose". DLR's vocals are perfect and his screams put chills down your spine. "Yankee Rose" was to be DLR's opening song to throw at Van Halen to say "I can do it without you" and he does. "Rose" is follwed up by another rocker "Shyboy". When you hear the intro though you'll be thinking this is from a Van Halen album. Steve Vai and Billy Sheehan really bring it on this song. Great track. "Goin' Crazy" is a bit pop but played loud it still rocks to me. "Tobacco Road" is a great cover. The entire album is great. DLR sounds happy and content, he has great musicians backing him up and he just "ROCKS"! If you haven't heard it, get it, and if you have forgotten it, CRANK it!
DLR doing what he does best.......2006-04-08
This is a fun solo album that has a lot of what post 1984 Van Halen might have sounded like if Roth would not have been kicked out. Eddie's guitar is replaced with Steve Vai's guitar and it all works out well. Roth gets a little more creative freedom and we get a great bunch of songs.
So, do we miss Eddie and the gang? Of course. You can never replace the formula that was the original VH. But this cd is better than the first Van Halen cd with Sammy.

Highly Recommended.......2007-04-11
I do believe this is the best Warrant album hands down. After the combined success of 'DRFSR' and 'Cherry Pie' Warrant decided to change things up a bit. They saw the writing on the wall that the music atmosphere was changing. 'Dog Eat Dog' was the result. The only reason this album did not get the support or recognition it deserved was because the bands name was Warrant plain and simple. This is one of the best albums of '92. Tracks like 'Machine Gun', 'Hole In My Wall', 'Bonfire', and 'Inside Out' pack a very powerful punch with heavy drums and excellent guitar work. The ballads: 'The Bitter Pill', 'Sad Theresa', and 'Let It Rain' don't sound like previous Warrant ballads and do not take away from the strength of this album and are good songs on their own. Any of them could have been great radio singles. Then you have songs like 'April 2031', 'Andy Warhol Was Right', and 'All My Bridges Are Burning'. When I first heard the album these songs stuck out because they didn't sound like any other Warrant songs. There is no weak material on this album. If you like hard rock/metal buy this album...
Pop metal gets a heart transplant - a very low three stars.......2006-07-12
What happens when your female fans graduate from that first flush of youth, turn 21 and won't buy your albums anymore? You try to get a bigger male audience! So what do you do?

And it just about worked. Warrant worked their backsides off trying to make this album wok and tunes such as The Hole In My Wall, April 2031 and The Bitter Pill - well try to listen to a sample and you'll hear that the band are at least providing some variety. A tougher stance overall and apparently named after the bands view of the music business in general.
The problems for this release are: difficulty in taking them seriously, the touch of desperation and the band not really being able to pull off the direction change fully musically. But some of the riffs are good and Mr Lane can truly sing which he didn't get much credit for at the time. Not an album that grabbed me and demanded more time in my stereo but fans will lap up the more ambitious effort this album represented.
Warrant's finest moment!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-06-03
This album unfortunately got lost in the grunge shuffle that plagued the early to mid 90's, effectively killing off so many good bands and shadowing great albums like this one. Kind of like what Skid Row did with Slave To The Grind, on Dog Eat Dog Warrant got a heavier/grittier sound, very mature and solid. Stand out songs are "Machine Gun", "The Hole In My Wall" which is a voyeur type sex song, the full out rockers "Bonfire" & "Inside Out", and of course you have the ballads "The Bitter Pill", "Let It Rain" & "Sad Theresa". But my favorite track is the song "April 2031". The bleak future that Jani Lane portrays with this song's lyrics is so haunting it's downright creepy, especially with the growing global warming we're starting to see. I just love the dark mood the song forces you into. If you are at all a Warrant fan then you need to pick this up. It rocks harder, you could kinda compare the album to the way "Uncle Tom's Cabin" totally ripped on the "Cherry Pie" album in comparison to the rest of the songs on that album. This was Warrant's answer to the Seattle movement, it's just unfortunate the statement wasn't heard!
Forget what you think you know about Warrant........2006-05-24
I never understood the hatred towards this album. Or the accusation that Warrant tried to go "grunge" with this album. I bought it the minute it came out in 1992 and loved it. It seemed like a natural extension of "Cherry Pie" with a lot more crunch and a lot less cheese. To me, Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich was pretty fluffy, but still enjoyable when I am feeling nostalgic. Cherry Pie, despite the cheesy title track had some amazing songs on it and started to demonstrate that the band was maturing and branching out. Dog Eat Dog, just seems like the next and better step after the songs on Cherry Pie.
Bitter Pill is one of my all time favorite songs. I could do with out the german chorus in the middle, but otherwise, it is an amazing song. Another favorite is Quicksand. Hole in my Wall, Machine Gun, are other standouts. Actually the whole album is good. Inside Out is a little weak, but I am especially fond of it because I saw them perform it on the Cherry Pie tour.
I go back to this album every couple of years and love it just as much as I did in 1992. When I thought I lost my copy, I actually came here to buy another one.
Even if you thought DRFSR and Cherry Pie sucked, try this album.
it's an warrant to state they suck .......2006-05-14
warrant will always be remembered for they cheesey terrible video for "cherry pie" with the waitress having the pie fall down her apron, and there terrible hair and clothes..
well that was the eighties the worst decade for music
thankyou kurdt cobain chris cornell eddie vedder, for destroying that decade of cheese they could make a mouse happy,
now it's 1992, in the revolution of GRUNGE no pussies with poodles here man..it's 60's rock being molested by late seventies punk..not too many cheese ball ballads and lighters a'blaze oh wait there was here on this album "dog eat dog"
the appearance of warrant had change they'd changed their wigs
for the fashionable matted look of kurdt cobains locks too keep with the times it's an shame they didn't go into hibernation,
and left this salbum in the can, or down the dunny,
warrant had no actual talent, they just relied on their looks and they were vaning in 1992, girls didn't want poodles they wanted scruffy, deliquents with a sense of musical, talent,
i've regretted buying this album after my guitar tutor reccomended it too me, i'll be selling it soon too an poodle from the past that can't let go that grunge destroyed their precise poodle rock..
nevermind still got the darkness to kept the eighties music a light hahahaha
don't buy unless you like your rock brimming with cheese

I hate to disagree with the other reviewers here..........2007-02-19
This album was not all that great. They're like a "punk" band that doesn't have a whole lot of interesting things to say ("cancer food"? "too many guns"? please.) that had one standout track, Like A Drug. And looking at the liner notes for that track, heck it's got an additional producer and remixer for that one track.
There were a lot of bands at that time that the label brought in a producer for the strongest track to get a single on college radio. It worked, the singe got airplay, but I remember when I bought the album and I was like WTF, one strong track that I've already heard 200 times, and the rest is garbage.
In my opinion, this formula is why a lot of bands were "overlooked" at the time.
A great alternative rock group that should have been recognized! .......2006-05-21
I remember back in 1990/91 when my local radio station played a song from this group called "They Eat Their Own". The song was "Like A Drug". I was intrigued by the song and eventually bought the casette and was totaly impressed with the whole recording. Laura B. has a good alternative rock voice, and the rest of the band was very talented and original sounding in that time era. Best songs from that debut which I liked were "Better Now", "Like A Drug", "No Right To Kill", "Why Don't You Disagree", and "Video Matyr". Of course the rest of the songs are as good as well, and I thought this group was getting ready to come onto the music scene with the promise of making more music and getting recognition. I don't know what happened, but I guess they didn't sell enough records and eventually disbanded. The irony of all of this is the "alternative rock explosion" that happened in the wake of Nirvana. They Eat Their Own would have easily found a strong fanbase in that timeframe, but I guess this recording was prematurely released to a music world that was still listening to Top 40 and whatever new fad trend styles that was being sold to the public back in 1990/91. They Eat Their Own were truly artistic and creative, and they wrote songs that were intellegent, opiniated, informative, and personal. And they had a good alternative rock guitar sound. They Eat Their Own needs some long overdue recognition, so if you are a fan of alternative rock, especially one fronted by a female lead singer, you won't be disappointed except for the fact that they are no longer in the music scene. Who knows? Maybe some rock group might do a cover song from this dated release.
Another good band that got ignored.......2006-03-28
Another good CD that nobody paid attention to. Released in 1991, this is They Eat Their Own's only recording. After it didn't sell, they were dropped by the record company and broke up. However, this band was good. I bought this the year it came out and have never stopped enjoying it. The music is hard rock with some nice guitar riffs and solid playing. Laura B. doesn't have a booming voice like the Wilson sisters, but she's a capable singer. Lyrically, the songs have a social conscious to them and a bit more melody than some rock bands. Overall, another jammin' CD that for some reason was ignored.

This is a fast brutal sex, drugs, and rock and roll kick in the nuts! I played this for my co-worker and when it started of with loud feedback she cringed. When it was over she was blown away, she said "It didn't FN stop!", and they don't, the feedback from the end of one song is still going when the next one starts! The music is fast, loud, and pure U.S.D.A. prime filth! From the cover, to the lyrics, to the name, to the pure raw sound! I end ever sentence in this reveiw with a (!) cause they end every song with one!
Marilyn sux, Pussy is way better!.......2004-09-09
Dude, you actually think Manson is good, I'm not going to blatantly insult you like that vulture music lover, but I am going to tell you the same thing I told Greg Dillmore, take some medication, it helps. Now back to the album. This album is so (...) twisted and naughty. You can tell this is music to (...) someones brains out too, for crying out loud its called Let Them Eat Pussy! I luv the way this album is just so sick, naughty, dirty, (...), illict sex music! Who cares about the music, just the fact that these naughty people named themselves Nashville Pussy is enough for me to rate this.... 5 stars.
get over yourselves..........2004-02-14
NP rocks the house. Maybe you guys that don't like this music are too OLD. Maybe you should buy George Jones' LP "I dont need no rocking chair".
Everytime I hear NP I cant help but stomp my feet and bob my head. This is good stuff to get inked to and drink some beer!!!
FRIED CHICKEN AND COFFEEEEEE... they keeping me mean!
Beats Motorhead.......2003-04-26
You've got to see this group live. They were the intro band to Motorhead. It should have been the other way round.
One of the few bands I would pay to see again. Still though, no-one beats Marilyn Manson in concert.
this is way too slick in a bad way.......2000-04-19
I guess a person would be blown away by these guys if he hadn't ever heard anything else that actually is rock and roll. I'm not saying this to mean I'm some sort of a know it all, but LTEP is lacking to me in the rock department. Obviously it isn't as bad as a lot of so called bands that use some type of distortion or another, but it could rock so much harder had the production been a lot more scratchy and much thicker. I think people are way too judgemental with these guys though. I mean, so what if they're "hicks"? This is just another tag name to put people down. ... That is how movements get corrupted and people get labeled. Get into music for music's sake. I also feel if you're looking for some sort of meaning behind these guys, you have problems. These guys are strictly about rock and roll in my opinion. You know--The Stooges, Kiss, The Nuge, AC/DC, etc. I am seeing these guys live March 28 with REO Speed Dealer, Fu Manchu, and of course Motorhead. Hopefully they will rock and roll. I feel bad for these guys that people are pinholing them as a metal band, but that's what happens if you're on a major label. Some guy who thinks Styx is too hard is telling you and "selling" you that you're metal. You've got to roll with the punches I guess. Besides if you're that dumb that you think these guys are some sort of a "metal" band, you are just buying the album for the cover and not listening to the music. I do have a lot of respect for the girls, namely Ruyter and Cory for doing what they do. The majority of people whether they are male or female wouldn't have the guts to get up there basically naked and attempt to play music of any kind. It is interesting but not surprising (she's at least 6') to note that Cory's brother is a professional basketball player for the Timberwolves, I think. Don't buy this for any reason if you do not like straight up maximum rock and roll.

awful.......2007-01-26
I can not believe all the positive reviews this cd has!!! It is terrible! Even if you can get past the fact that udo is not there, it just plain sucks. The singer is very poor with no range. The songs are very weak with no exciting choruses or melody. The lyrics are stupid, just don't buy it!
A decent Accept album, even without Udo........2005-11-11
This album often gets knocked by Accept fans but it is actually pretty good. David Reece has a decent rock voice and most of the songs have catchy riffs and good lead guitar from the one and only Wolf Hoffman. The album kicks off with the classic de-tuned X-T-C, which was actually covered by UDO for an Accept tribute album. The next three songs, Prisoner (good melody and verse), Love Sensation (good chorus), and Chain Reaction (cool verse w/ guitar), are all good catchy songs! After that is D-train which ain't bad but not one of my favs. The next song, Generation Clash, was chosen as the video for the album. The lyrics are a bit silly but I like the bass riff and Wolf's solo is great. Turn the Wheel is probably my least favorite song on the album. The chorus just does not do it for me. The next three songs, Mistreated (decent ballad, a bit long), Stand 4 What You R (positive message), and Hellhammer (great verse and vocals), close out the album well. Eat The Heat may have been Accept's shot at more commercial success but it is not a sellout by any means. Give it a listen, you may be surprised.
The day Accept sold out...........2004-11-12
The year is 1989. Udo Dirkschneider is gone, so Accpet feel free to "accept" the dubious good advises from their managers / record company executives / whoever, and they go for an all-out assault to "make America", destroying their established raw sound for a pedestrian, lifeless, stupid hair-metal sound typical of middle-eighties... What a shame.. Udo's replacement, David Reece, no doubt has a powerful set of lungs, but he delivers the songs in an unoriginal way, similar to all of the hair metal bands of the eighties.
EAT THE HEAT is a very bad album, don't be fooled by the others reviews. Of course, Wolf Hoffmann and the rest of the guys are extremely talented heavy rockers, but the trouble here is the lack of soul in the record: it is clearly a commercial metal product from that period, with all the obligatory love ballads, love lyrics, reverbered drums, etc. When you compare it with their previous classics, even with RUSSIAN ROULETTE, you will want to cry. Skip it.
Some great powerful tracks, also some filler -- but GOOD.........2003-05-13
In late 1988 Udo was "out" of Accept persuing a solo career with his new band U.D.O. (which was similar in style and musicianship to Accept) and "in" was American newcomer and powerful singer David Reece.
Udo definetly was an identifiable voice and a steadfast icon when you think of Accept, but Reece on this album showed a very clean, crisp, and downright powerful voice at times emulating such renowned metal screamers as Rob Halford or Manowar's Eric Adams. Different though, was that Reece had an image/style that was borderline "hair-metalish" which some people welcomed (he could have just as well fit into a Motley Crue or similar type of band at the time as singer), while more traditional Accept fans didn't like the new singers stlye, despite his more than adequate voice. More suprising than the fresh and welcome change in the vocal department was also a new rhythm guitarist Jim Stacey, who actually played nothing on this release but was the new touring rhythm guitar player. From what I have heard, he wasn't all too great live and he was by far no Jorg Fischer or Hermm Frank.
The album overall I would say is very good and with some songs you will get a sense of commerical vibe with a dileberate intent I would say to try a new change and maybe keep in tandem with some of the other heavy rock/hair metal acts "happening" at the time, but you WILL know this is trademark Wolf Hoffmann and Stefan Kaufmann behind thier respective instruments. The first and second tracks are excellent (the 2nd track you will sense the commerical sound, as if you could have envisioned it on the radio in 1989, but it still rocks really hard). I think the stand-out tracks by far are track 5 (D-Train) which is totally killer all-around, and track 10 (Hell Hammer) which showcases how truly powerful and crisp Reece was behind he microphone.
The rest of the tracks are okay but nothing to get into a tizzy over, some of the other song titles have a "prince" vibe to them but they are still quality metal tracks. For the tracks Ive listed above, this album on those merits alone is worth a buy especially for many of those fans out there who might have really appreciated some of the better hair metal with much beefier songs that say what Poison or Faster Pussycat was doing during that time, but may have not been exposed to this release or that of David Reece.
Overall I would say this is a pretty darn good album. It is no "Restless And Wild" or "Balls To The Wall", but it is better than even some of the stuff they released with UDO in the late 90s. However, this was the sole release with David Reece. The tour with WASP and Metal Church wasn't drawing too well and internal problems within the band led to Reece being dismissed at the beginning of the 90's and Accept going on a few years hiatus.
A few years later David Reece was rumored to have turned down an offer to join Judas Priest for the main reason of not wanting to go into another band as "a replacement singer" again -- traditional metal fans especially those who loved the "metal screamers" would more than likely I'd think appreciate Reece's work on this LP.
4 out of 5 for this album

another great cd from germany's accept.this release was perfect for 1989,atad bit more melodic, but also more intense, and slightly more mature.also with a new singer david reese.highlights are hell hammer, and stand for what you are.wolf hoffmanns playing here is top form he was in his prime at this time.1 year after this peter baltes did a cd with don dokken.4 years after this accept re-hired udo.also some great cd's from around this time;europe out of this world, don dokken upfrom the ashes, steve morse power lines, and yngwie malmsteen live in leningrad.

NOT ACCEPTABLE!.......2007-05-20
Accept without Udo is like Led Zep without Robert Plant, it's just not the same. Not that David Reece is a bad singer mind you, but Udo is THE voice of Accept. I cannot recommend this CD to any hardcore Accept fans. The only track on it that I like and that kicks butt is the track D-Train. It's a scorcher. Save your money and get METAL HEART, BALLS TO THE WALL, or RESTLESS AND WILD instead. [...]
just look at the cover!!.......2007-01-26
this is one cd you definately can judge by the cover! do you see udo?????

I really have nothing else to say.
