5 out of 5 stars Fantastic!.......2007-01-09

As a movie soundtrack fan, I was immediately drawn to 'The Greatest Game Ever Played,' and when I got it just a few weeks ago, I wasn't dissapointed.
At first it sounds much like James Horner's 'Legends of the Fall,' but it is by no means a repeat of it. It is a beautifull soundtrack on it's own, with many different themes that keep it exciting. The music has the same early 1900's feel as the movie while stil maintaining a variety of music styles; from soaring strings to intense violin pieces to period vocals like "And the Band Played On." Like the movie, it has a very inspirational feel, and I would definately recommend it to anyone, whether fans of the movie or soundtrack lovers.

5 out of 5 stars Loved the movie, love the score.......2006-03-17

I saw The Greatest Game Ever Played in the theater and became enchanted with this film, based on the true story of Francis Ouimet, a low-class amateur golfer who emerges from complete obscurity to win the U.S. Open. By the end of the movie, I realized how much I was enjoying the music and decided that I just had to buy the soundtrack.

As I have listened to this soundtrack again and again, I've been captivated by this music. The beauty and power of Brian Tyler's composition is most impressive. As an intent listener, I've been deeply moved by the expansive musical landscape that is covered in this soundtrack. The central motif, a majestic and magnanimous melody which forms the essence of the main title, is woven into tracks throughout the disc, tying everything together as part of a musical (and theatrical) storyline. Indeed, it seems like an incomplete experience if I don't listen to the entire soundtrack, start to finish, in sequential order. If you take the time to do that, you'll find it's a very rewarding listen.

5 out of 5 stars 4.5 Stars for The Greatest Game Ever Played.......2006-03-11

This was an excellent 10 dollar purchase from iTunes, to put it mildly. As much as I loved Tyler's The Final Cut, Darkness Falls, Timeline and Constantine scores, this tops them all. It's a loving tribute to the main character of the film and good ol' fashioned film scoring in general. I haven't seen the movie and therefore cannot comment on wether or not it works in the context of the film. I can, however, say with great pleasure what a joy it is to listen to as a solo album.
The album picks up with the main title track, and what a great track it is. Some people will say it is Horner reminiscent, and while many themes on this CD do remind me of James Horner's best work, I actually think the closer resemblance is John Debney. I'm serious - this score is in many ways similar to The Passion of the Christ. It has pounding drums and wonderful percussion and isn't afraid to go all out with the string and brass section. It's a thrilling, heroic, melodramatic and operatic score that I've enjoyed listening to repeatedly. A highly recommended score for anyone who enjoys breathtaking and moving and powerful and heroic sometimes lighthearted and always thrilling music.
cheers
KZ

4 out of 5 stars One of Brian Tyler's best.......2005-10-01

Brain Tyler says of this score that "the orchestral music was influenced by the popular music of the end of the 19th Century and the start of the 20th Century - Debussy, Sibelius, Strauss, and Mahler. To me, the sound we know as 'American' was a combination of the styles of so many of these great European composers." As far as I'm concerned, this score was a lot more influenced by James Horner -- certain bits sound strikingly similar to Legends of the Fall. But don't let that put you off, because the rest of the bits don't. This score is beautiful, lively, energetic, exciting and ebullient Americana throughout -- an odd contrast to Tyler's last score, the dark beast that was Constantine. Despite the occasional "nods" to Horner, though, Greatest Game Ever Played is one of Tyler's best and most thoroughly enjoyable scores, well orchestrated and well recorded also. If it's not quite Children of Dune, it's certainly better than his best since, such as Timeline and The Final Cut, on par with his other score for Bill Paxton, Frailty, though obviously in a very different genre and with a very different sound. So if you're a fan of Brian Tyler or good, uplifting, exciting film music in general, definitely check out this score.

The Godfather saga may have its roots in pulp fiction, but the vision of director Francis Ford Coppola turned the story of Don Vito Corleone into an epic, multigenerational metaphor for modern American society and its place in the world. Coppola's musical choices were equally sage; aged Italian scoring legend Nino Rota's mournful solo trumpet theme ("Godfather Waltz") would become both a crucial, emotional link in all three films and an enduring modern icon on a par with the themes to Star Wars and Jaws.

This compendium gathers key themes from the Godfather trilogy in modern rerecordings, by conductor Paul Bateman and the Prague Philharmonic, that are sonically pristine and faithful to the originals. Utilizing the rich musical heritage of his native Italy (and occasionally evoking memories of his great collaborations with Fellini), Rota's Godfather music would ultimately net him his only Oscar ®, for Godfather II. Carmine Coppola, the director's father, supplements Rota's work with music that's more distinctly ethnic, while the prelude from Italian classical composer Pietro Mascagani's masterful opera Cavalleria Rusticana becomes a crucial element in Godfather III, filling the void left by Rota's passing in 1979. --Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars Noticeably different from the original soundtrack, but that doesn't make it any less fantastic........2006-11-10

When I first reading the reviews to this Soundtrack collection, I was a bit skeptical, as I read many reviews which mentioned the differences among this collection and the original soundtracks. Being a huge fan of the films and their music, I was a bit nervous about my purchase, but figured how bad could it sound? It's the Godfather!

However, when I got the CD in the mail, I was pleasantly surprised. While I did notice some differences (Tarantella sounds somewhat changed) between the Collection songs and the original analogs, they were not a change for worse. These tracks produced the same, if not greater emotional response than those from the films.

Listening to the whole soundtrack is a great experience from beginning to end for fans of the films and their music, and I absolutely praise the Prague Philharmonic orchestra, Crouch End Festival Chorus, and conductor Paul Bateman for their excellent transition of the original work into this 30th Anniversary collection.

If you like the music from the films, get this disc!

4 out of 5 stars pensieri da Staciella.......2004-06-29

2 out of 5 stars Do not confuse music you love with rendition you won't.......2003-11-11

I would not like to repeat what another reviewer said there: this is no original soundtrack. It is a very professional - and very uninspired - job by Prague Philarmonic who might have followed the music sheet but they lost the magic.

Yes, the tunes are memorable and, right from the first movements, they evoke the ghosts of complex cinematic imagery that are so deeply ingrained in the mind of anyone who loves this film. But the magic is gone. You know it's not THE soundtrack, and you've heard the real thing so many times.

The truth is that if you had Pavarotti to sing classic songs of The Rolling Stones, you would be disappointed with the result - despite the fact that Luciano has a much better voice than Mick Jagger.

Those artists who recorded the original soundtrack 30 years ago in Hollywood - and who remembers their names today? - were probably not as accomplished as the Prague Philarmonic. But they created the real thing, and therefore this cover disc will forever be no more than nice background music. That's all I use it for.

5 out of 5 stars Great Quality.......2003-07-15

I bought this after watching the movies for the first time, and listened to it, without noticing any difference. I just went, "what an amazing remastering job", then I saw that they were re-recorded. I never thought there was that big a difference when watching the movies over and over, and I really scrutinize re-recordings generally(like those done for Star Wars).

I bought the regular Godfather 1 cd after this, and I've hardly touched it since I bought it. I think this Godfather Trilogy is far superior in audio quality and performance. I think it has more feeling then the originals.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing performance of classic Godfather music..........2003-01-09

I am a die-hard Godfather afficianado and I was terribly disappointed in this CD. When I purchased it, I didn't realize it was not a recording of the original soundtrack from the movie. Instead, it is a reproduction of the songs by The City of Prague Philharmonic. The performance is technically accurate, but does not at *all* convey the emotion of the movie's moments. It's as if the musicians studied the score, but never saw the movie. In track after track, the rhythms are not quite right, the mood is not set, etc, which is jarring for someone who knows the movies well. If you just want to hear some pleasing music, buy this CD. If you intend to buy a CD of The Godfather soundtrack in order to re-experience the magic of the Godfather movies themselves, look elsewhere.

The term Irish tenor may be fraught with as many wrong-headed, anachronistic characterizations as any phrase in music. But Ronan Tynan not only returns here to the PBS airwaves that helped spread his fame as a member of the Irish Tenors trio, but he overturns a few clichés while delivering a live concert (recorded at the Royal Dublin Society in June 2002) that encompasses everything from Broadway and pop chestnuts to Italian operatic repertoire. Tynan rewards Irish traditions old and new (a medley of Brian Kennedy's and U2's "Life, Love & Happiness"/"I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For") and even makes left turns into folkie songstress territory (Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now," Sarah McLachlan's "Angel"). Backed by RTE Orchestra, the unlikely international star invests himself completely in all of it, his strong, crystalline voice playing off the traditions, while forging strong new bonds with the contemporary. --Jerry McCulley

3 out of 5 stars Simply Wonderful.......2005-08-29

This CD is just as great as the more recent "Ronan" CD. I clicked on 3 stars in error. This is a 5++ star album! His voice is sheer perfection, and the songs are wonderful. I also highly recommend the DVD of "The Impossible Dream," even though I didn't care at all for the London Community Choir who sing four songs. Note: The American version of the DVD doesn't have the 25-minute "Dr. Courageous" extra on it that the Irish version does. I saw him in concert last month, and besides having a voice that soars to the rafters, he is warm, funny and endearing.

Having seen Ronan in person recently in the U.S., I was impressed first and foremost by his singing ability, and second by his stage presence and warmth. He is a special performer and human being. I am proud to be a Ronan Tynan fan.

ronan tynan is a great role model for adults and children alike. he was born with a deformity and made a decision he would make something of himself, he had a goal and he surpassed it. no one puts as much of their heart into as he. he puts the audience into his songs, he makes us feel he is singing to each one of us individually. HE IS THE GREATEST IRISH TENOR I HAVE EVER HEARD, INCLUDING JOHN MC CORMAC the great irish tenor of the 30's

5 out of 5 stars Hidden treasure.......2007-01-08

I grew eating bread, milk and Zep. The first time I heard 'Immigrant song' I felt a knock-out beat. But 'Hey hey what can I do?' has been my favourite companion for a long time. The most part of Zep fans love this song, and if you do really want to test their fidelity, then ask them of 'Hey hey what can I do?'. Maybe, the Page's choice to exclude it from several collections and best of and from live song lists has made the fortune of this song. If you truly love Led Zeppelin you have to share this unforgotten treasure with us.

5 out of 5 stars Get this single for that gem on the b-side........2006-12-29

It's so hard to believe ''Hey Hey What Can I Do'' did'nt make LZ3, considering this track surely would've been a massive hit. Instead it could only be found on this single release and was very rare and much unheard by many until over 20 years later with the LZ multi-disc compilation.

''Hey Hey...'' is a pure ballad as it is also literally a perfect song; the bass, the acoustic guitar, vocals/backing vocals blend so well together that it just has to be heard by all LZ fans as well as fans of music in general.

Like I said in the title, get this single if you don't need the LZ compilation. The B-side is essential listening.

A bargain for the price! I'd have paid more to hear and own the two songs on this CD. Other reviewers have also commented that the best thing about this CD is the second song Hey Hey What Can I Do - and they are right! Plant's vocals are outstanding and Page and the boys do their normal outstanding job - the balance, beat and flow of the song makes we wonder why Atlantic would not have put this song on III or a future releases? Oh well - I have it now - a must buy for the serious Zeppelin fan!!!!! Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars You've never heard "The Godfather" like this.......2003-08-13

For me the highlight of this disc is a short suite from "Rocco and His Brothers," with some pungent accordion work and 1950's jazz influences. This is glorious and rarely performed music, and conductor Riccardo Muti and the fine La Scala musicians should be thanked for presenting it so beautifully. (The film itself, available on DVD, is one of Visconti's best and well worth seeking out.) But there isn't a stale moment anywhere.

The melancholy themes from "The Godfather" have probably never been played so well. The famous opening trumpet solo, combining loneliness and menace in equal parts, is beautifully done, as are the relatively upbeat selections from "8-1/2" and "La Dolce Vita." Throughout the production, it is marvelous to hear these scores played with such passion and commitment, and the La Scala musicians sound sweepingly involved.

But for many listeners the highlight will be the dazzling and haunting waltzes from "The Leopard," with their melodic arcs echoing the grand scale of Visconti's masterpiece. This is truly evocative film writing.

An excellent introduction to Rota's music, played with suave intensity by one of the best conductors in the world. (For those interested, Muti and La Scala recorded another Rota CD with additional dances from "The Leopard," as well as music from "La Strada" and the "Concerto for Strings" -- also highly recommended.)

5 out of 5 stars Italian Scala and Muti feels Rota!.......2001-07-25

Perhaps this is the most powerfull collection of film music of Nino Rota, and Muti knows and feel this music. Splendid perfomance and sound.

Excellent and she's even better in concert! Best concert I've ever been to. How she manages to play the fiddle while dancing is beyond me. AND her band is from all over the world and just as talented!

5 out of 5 stars Buy This CD Immediately.......2004-11-09

I was taken to see Eileen Ivers last winter and had no idea what to expect. Words cannot describe the energy of the concert nor Ivers immense talent. I bought the CD and hav not stopped listening to it yet. Don't even hesitate, it is an incrediable blending of Irish tunes with Puerto Rican beats.

4 out of 5 stars Please lose the singer............2004-10-15

Eileen Ivers is the best violinist I have ever heard in my life, and she is incredibly innovative, but what was she thinking when she got this singer guy? He is frickin' horrible!!! He needs to shut the hell up and just let her do what she does best. Check out crossing the bridge....It's a phenominal record with no annoying vocals.

5 out of 5 stars Soothing sounds of Led Zeppelin..........2005-03-01

Before I write my review, I thought you would like to know that I have not had a chance to listen to "Kashmir: The Symphonic Led Zeppelin". Keep that in mind if you are trying to decide between the two.

I think I would consider myself an average Led Zeppelin fan. I appreciate their music, and I listen to them every so often. I'm not one of the hardcore Zeppelin fans, so you might not appreciate this tribute as much as I do. I would have to say that this tribute is very well done, and a lot of time and effort was put into making it. The strings are pretty much in sync with the original songs, and just a few seconds into the song, you'll be able to tell what it is. I'm not going to go through a list of songs and tell you what I think of them, but I will say that I think the best one is "Ten Years Gone." This album - or albums, I should say - are great if you're looking for a soothing and relaxing version of some of the great Led Zeppelin songs. Though, I must say that you will only appreciate the tribute if you know the songs themselves, because if you don't then the song just might get repetetive. I'm a fan of the whole String Quartet Tribute thing, and I'd have to say that this is one of the best ones I've heard so far.

2 out of 5 stars Not my cup of tea.......2003-11-18

For some reason this CD just sounded really corney to me. I was really dissapointed. Your opinion may differ but I would recommend that if you are looking for a classical Zeppelin CD you get Kashmir instead. It is cheaper and shines a new light on some awsome songs rather than butchering them.

4 out of 5 stars Finally, Led Zeppelin Done Well in Strings........2003-02-20

A few of the selections are questionable for arrangment for a string section. I mean, Whole Lotta Love? Dazed and Confused? Give me a break. They could have replaced those poor choices with a number of other possibilities.

Nevertheless, it is the first attempt of it's kind, and the songs that are suitable are gorgeously performed.

Led Zeppelin's gifts for creating melodies and knowledge of music theory become more obvious in these classical performances.

It's a double CD so it has lots of songs!

4 out of 5 stars essence of Fellini..........2007-05-09

As evocative as any perfume, this CD brings forth clear images of the films for which this music was written. Makes a charming background for any party, seemingly brainless fun, yet sophisticated and delightful. Also good to cook to...

5 out of 5 stars Excellent!.......2007-04-22

For this release, Silva Screen released their previous disc of Music from Fellini films, along with the best tracks from Nic Raine's 1998 recording of the complete score of Romeo and Juliet, as well as Paul Bateman's 2001 Godfather Trilogy disc, along with a few new tracks and other tracks from Silva's back catalog of music.

The last two tracks of the first disc, and the entire second disc is devoted to Fellini Films. All of the Fellini tracks are from 1993's "Music From Fellini Films", with Derek Wadsworth conducting the City of Prague Philharmonic (then credited as the Czech Symphony), with the exception of "Toby Dammit" which was recorded for this disc with Mario Klemens conducted.

"The Taming of the Shrew" is from Silva Screen's successful 2001 "Shakespeare at the Movies" set, while Death On The Nile and the Glass Mountain have been newly recorded for this set.

In conclusion, if you had the first disc of Rota/Fellini music then perhaps this would not be worth it, but overall this is a superb collection with that previous release in its entirely (remastered in HDCD surround sound, I might add), along with the best tracks from the Godfather Trilogy and Romeo and Juliet, with some more films sprinkled about, its a must-have, for anyone who wants a taste of Rota for less than $25.

5 out of 5 stars "premier composer of Italy (1911-1979) ~ Nino Rota".......2003-08-26

The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra performs the gems by composer Nino Rota, conducted by Derek Wadsworth, Paul Bateman, Nic Raine and Mario Klemens. This latest release "The Essential Nino Rota Film Music Collection", has all the romantic and poetic scores ever conceived. Rota's music remains in your mind with haunting and forbiding themes that will stay with you the rest of your days.

Rota has the ability to capture the moments from each cue in his scores with "THE TAMING OF THE SHREW", "THE GLASS MOUNTAIN", "LA DOLCE VITA" and "ROMEO & JULIET, the tapestry is fine and the weave is just right. That's just for starters, listen and recall the score from "THE GODFATHER" and "THE GODFATHER II", one only has to close your eyes and visualize the characters that came to life on the big screen, the music from Rota was a large part of this. And Disc Two with "THE NIGHTS OF CABIRIA", "AMARCORD" and "LA STRADA", can sit back and soak up each passage and counterparts that prevail.

Silva Screen Records and James Fitzpatrick (producer), please stand up and take a bow for the well deserved rare gems you've given us. This can only be one of the most sought after collections complete in every detail for any "film-score-buff" worth his salt. As you listen to this CD, you can visualize each scene the cue is recalling. And speaking for one and all movie music collectors----this is a keeper!

Album Description

Buried drums, echoed guitar, and soft cries suddenly transform into a blasting romance number; the rhythm section work easily rivals that of any other early '80s post-punkers, while the almost mandolin-like arrangements on the chorus are a lovely touch. Add in the Astons' passionate lyrics to a missing love and the glammy rush of the song, and Immigrant is off and running. Like Promise, variety is part of the album's appeal, ranging from the slow punch and chanting of "Stephen" to the giddy blasts of "Worth Waiting For" (with an intentionally hilarious spoken-word break in the middle) and "Cow," Immigrant's underrated highlight. When at their most mystic and tribal, the Astons nail it more often than not; the title track connects especially well, sounding like Echo and the Bunnymen's slightly more florid cousin with an especially catchy chorus. The group isn't afraid to let humor sneak through in other areas, as they prove in naming the last three songs "The Rhino Plasty," "Deep South Wale," and "Coal Porter." That final tune is especially good, a lovedrunk remembrance of the past with evocative imagery and a lovely arrangement; its soft percussion and electric guitar are carefully filled out with piano and backing vocals. BBG. 2005.

4 out of 5 stars The Jewel in Their Crown . . ........2006-01-26

IMMIGRANT is by far the best album I've heard from this band. Before these guys went off the glam-Duran-disco-whatever deep end, they actually rocked - on this album at least. PROMISE, their first album, is kind of a warm-up for IMMIGRANT, in my view. Someone made an apparently last minute addition of "Bruises," originally on PROMISE, to IMMIGRANT (the song title doesn't appear on the original album sleeve, which I have on vinyl). "Bruises" is the best song on PROMISE but almost pales in comparison to the best songs on IMMIGRANT. I haven't heard PROMISE in a while though, and I'm not sure if "Bruises" is the same version on each album.

The songwriting (which could qualify as "gothic," your imagination permitting) is better on IMMIGRANT and the playing is tighter and punchier. The music itself is pretty distinctive, incorporating Middle Eastern touches. I find the quivering, high-pitched voices of the twin Aston brothers to be deliciously vampiric, although I think a lot of others (particluarly girls) just find them sexy. However you hear them, these guys do sound pretty unique.

The best tracks:

The opening rocker "Always A Flame"

The gorgeous, hovering "Stephen"

The evocative, propulsive "The Immigrant"

And the more easy-going closer, "Coal Porter"

But my absolute favorite is the bizarre and slinky "The Rhino Plasty." That one's really out there.

4 stars because some of the other tracks don't quite measure up as well. "Worth Waiting For" is the weakest in my view and "Cow" doesn't turn me on so much either. But "Shame" is good and I do actually like "Bruises."

An aside: I won't say this band's name is as dog-awful as, say, Marcy Playground, but I think the choice to call themselves Gene Loves Jezebel probably turned off some people who might have liked them otherwise. Can't say that it really bothers me though! Too bad, but they pretty much lost me after their next release DISCOVER came out.

Can't comment on the bonus CD as I haven't heard it. I'll have to break down and get this version at some point, in which case I will probably update my review.

5 out of 5 stars Great collection of music.......2007-02-14

Margret Becker is one of the premier artists of our times. Shet doesn't get the credit her music deserves. This collection of songs is typical of the quality music she creates. Its a must add to your collection if you can find it.

5 out of 5 stars One of, if not, my favorite albums........2005-02-03

When it comes to gospel albums I tend to be a little more picky when selecting an artist to listen to than I am with other types of music. Why, I'm not sure? Probably because I like to relate to the lyrics and I like to think the performer is sincere and not trying to appeal to certain fanbase. There is no way for me to know how sincere Margaret Becker is regarding her lyrics but I sure relate to them. I find it hard to believe that, given the lyrics and the emotion she sings with, she is not sincere.

I came across this album over 10 years ago and it is as good now as it was then. It doesn't seem dated, at least not to me, as far as the music is concerned. The lyrics will never be dated. Songs like "Stay Close to Me" and "Honesty" really remind me of why I need God in my life and why I need to look to him for guidence and thank him. "I Commit" is another good song that encourages me. It's funny, just before this album came out Rod Stewart released a version of "People Get Ready" on his DOWNTOWN TRAIN album. I loved his version, with Jeff Beck on guitar, but it wasn't until I heard it on this album that I realized the religious aspects of the song. I feel like an idiot for not realizing what that song was about prior to hearing Margaret Becker sing it.

For those that enjoy modern gospel music, if you can call an album that is a decade and a half ago modern, and or have a relationship with God this album will most likely appeal to you. I also recommend checking out Susan Ashton and Helen Baylor.

5 out of 5 stars The Best From One of The Finest.......2003-07-07

Newer Christian music fans may be surprised to know that Margaret Becker was once considered THE premier female Christian rocker. She was also the first one to make a big impact. Maggie B. debuted in 1987 with her NEVER FOR NOTHING project and followed that up in '88 with the awesome album THE RECKONING. She was immediately viewed as the best "Christian alternative" to mainstream woman rockers. What set Maggie above the fray and "knockoff" criticisms was the fact that she was a truly talented and multifaceted musician -- she could play a mean guitar and her songwriting ability was top notch.

1989 saw the release of IMMIGRANT'S DAUGHTER -- an album that was embraced by fans and critics alike. On IMMIGRANT'S DAUGHTER, Becker crafted a project that retained her rock edge but which for the first time really began to explore other musical styles that helped to better convey the personal qualities and passions of some of her lyrics. The album had its rocker moments ("I Commit," "This Is My Passion," the title track), but also, besides the obligatory ballads, had quite a few mid-tempo cuts which gave the album an overall feel that was a contrast to her very edgy THE RECKONING.

The title cut is an autobiographical journey which follows the literal and spiritual path that her grandmother took as an Irish immigrant to America. "This Is My Passion" is a soul-baring prayer reflecting her struggle for holiness in the midst of constant failures. In fact, the theme of the struggle for holiness in spite of one's humanity runs through out the whole of the project. "Honesty" reflects that, telling us that "You spoke of your struggle, and you cried from your pain... God's not afraid of your honesty, He can heal your heart if you speak honestly, humble sorrow and the honest cry, He will not pass by." It is a beautifully simple and poignant song that is one of the high moments in Margaret's long career.

There isn't a weak cut on this entire project. From the album cover (which is a beautiful black and white drawing of a close-up of Becker's face) to the closing cover of Curtis Mayfield's "People Get Ready," IMMIGRANT'S DAUGHTER just clicks. This project is also significant because of the fact that it was here that we saw Margaret really begin to spread her wings as an artist and move away from the female rock niche which she did well but was held back by. She would continue to have her edgy moments here and there for the next few years, but by the time she released SOUL it was a thing of her past. And though she doesn't retain her place of prominence (she once was second only in popularity to Amy Grant), Margaret has become one of the most respected songwriters and female voices in the industry. She also must rightfully be viewed as a pioneer for women in Christian music. Before Margaret, rock was a man's world. Though long time fans may debate it, for my money IMMIGRANT'S DAUGHTER is her finest work. FIVE STARS

5 out of 5 stars Becker is the Best in Christian Music!.......2003-06-22

Margaret Becker voice is phenomenal, plus her musical talents are on top. So why isn't Becker one of the top performers in Christian music? Well, she should be. You're missing out on the best. This album Becker pays tribute to her Irish roots and her grandparents as she relates in the title track, 'Immigrant's Daughter.' This album was named one of the top 100 best gospel albums by CCM. She digs deep into her spiritual longing in family traditions. She accomplishes this in the passion of her songs. This can be heard in 'This is My Passion,' 'Hunger Stays,' 'I Commit' and "People Get Ready.' The music is a mixture of mellow folk rock with some bluesy overtones and a little irishness. Her work carries over into 'Falling Forward' album. Another you can't pass up. This gal can really sing! Just try one of her album and see what you're really missing. It's a wonder why she's not a BIG artist. Maybe that's a blessing in disguise. You won't be disappointed.
