5 out of 5 stars Make Us Monkey.......2007-06-14

The slammin' blues rock power trio lives! Earl Greyhound combine classic traditions and modern attitude for a fresh sound that is both way in and way out. Comparisons could certainly be made with the strange brews of Cream and early Led Zeppelin, but Earl Greyhound are not imitators. This bodacious debut album is a real treat for lovers of the classics and for those who are on the prowl for new sounds, and the band is overflowing with potential. Matt Whyte has a delightfully trashy guitar sound and a sneaky streak in his lyrics, while drummer Ricc Sheridan supplies an enormous groove that is half Bonham and half nuclear bomb. The band's secret weapon is surely foxy bassist Kamara Thomas, whose highlight vocals (plus one starring turn in "Yeah I Love You") really remind me of an ultragroovy 70s funk diva. The strength of the Earl Greyhound sound is introduced fully in this album's opener, "S.O.S." and further advanced in winning tracks like the high-flying "All Better Now" and the insistent "I'm the One." Some variety is evident in the jaunty "Two Weeks" and the lowdown gutbucket "Fashion." And this album's centerpiece, the eight-minute apocalypse "Monkey," jams out so monstrously that it must be heard to be believed. [~doomsdayer520~]

5 out of 5 stars Amazing debut.......2007-05-15

Wow, what an amazing debut album. These guys are by far my favorite new band along with other "retro" bands like Rose Hill Drive and Wolfmother. I just recently discovered them when I saw the video for their song S.O.S. on MTV2. As soon as it was over, I jumped over to their website and listened to the entire album in their media section. I have been obsessed with the album ever since. I highly recommend them to fans of T. Rex, Led Zep, Rolling Stones, etc. Probably the coolest thing EG has going for them is the fact that they have two amazing vocalists in Matt Whyte and Kamara Thomas. While Kamara mainly provides backing vocals, her lead vocals are amazing on Yeah, I Love you and Back and Forth.

I was lucky enough to see them in Philly this past weekend at a small club and they are even more amazing live. "Big" Ricc Sheridan is an absolute beast behind the kit. I have never seen a drummer actually break a cymbal on stage!

Do yourselves a favor and buy this album now!

5 out of 5 stars Earl Greyhound Delivers.......2007-05-13

Dishing out thundering rythems matched with catchy melodic riffs, Earl Greyhound does not dissapoint in their debut. The power trio's presence is strong on the cd and now, having memorized its 11 fulfilling tracks, I'm left waiting for their next album. Or their next local tour date. Though they're heavily satisfying on cd, when they're live they put on a show of epic, classic-rock proportions, which is a lot to say for a band these days.

5 out of 5 stars Rock Solid.......2007-05-02

Earl Greyhound is one of the most exciting bands I've heard in a long time. As members of the explosion of the regeneration of the power trio along with bands like Rose Hill Drive and Wolfmother, they have produced an incredibly exciting and absolutely rocking debut album. The album features crunchy guitars, solid bass playing, thundrous drums and high adrenaline vocals in the same tradition of bands of the 70s like Led Zeppelin, Cream and Jimi Hendrix. It's loud, it's powerful and it's fantastic. Earl Greyhound is set apart from a lot of these power trios in that they have a female member. Bassist Kamara Thomas also sings background vocals (and lead on a few tracks) and adds an interesting dimension to the band's sound. Frontman Matt Whyte delivers most of the vocals and some shearing guitar work especially his soloing work on tracks like "Monkey" and "I'm the One." Drummer Big Ricc Sheridan could not be more aptly named. His drumming is absolutely earth-shaking. The band is incredibly dynamic providing lots of contrast in volume, texture, rhythm and overall feel. The writing on this album is absolutely incredible. Great lyrics and exciting arrangements make Soft Targets a must for any lover of the power trio. Standout tracks include "S.O.S." "Monkey" "It's Over," and "All Better Now." An incredibly exciting album from a band with amazing potential. I can't wait for the next one.

Remember the name Earl Greyhound because they're gonna be huge! This album is amazing. Solid, sexy rock - heavy with guitar, bass and drums; smart lyrics; and great vocals. It's the cd you'll keep taking back and forth from your car to your home. Great from the first song all the way through to the last.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2005-02-08

Earl Greyhound are one of the new bands from NYC who are making some noise. They are not a band rehashing the same old new wave influences. They are a hard rock trio with male/female vocals. They are more inspired by the hard rock of the 1970s. It's sexy music. It makes no apologies. "Fashion" is almost as hard rocking as Cream. Earl Greyhound would at the end of the day seem like another good time band like Young Heart Attack. It is excited music to hear. It's four songs, but it's enough to make me what to stick around. I saw them play recently with Soundtrack of Our Lives, and they got a positive reaction.

4 out of 5 stars Earl Greyhound could be next big thing.......2005-01-14

How often do you hear that phrase? "Next Big Thing" is overused and often misdirected, but for Earl Greyhound I think it's justified. This straight-ahead group rocks out with a male-female vocal duo that hasn't been heard since The Pixies. Great stuff. I can't wait for their LP that comes out in '05.
