4 out of 5 stars Decent album.......2007-04-05

I thought the CD was fine. I liked most songs on the album, and that's really what I'm gunning for when I buy new music. I expected a decent helping of angry music and I got it. The music's really pounding/driving at times, excellent for working out or driving fast, and songs like Breathe and Pure Energy don't disappoint (at least for me).

5 out of 5 stars totally hardcore.......2006-09-20

if you ever wanna hear hardcore... listen to crossbreed. the word crossbreed pretty much means hardcore (cross=hard, breed=core... it's rather elementary). their breakdowns and chugs and growls and lyrics about whores, strength and perseverance are so hard... AND CORE! HARDCORE! crossbreed is difinitively hardcore. i've been to hardcore shows, partied with hardcore musicians and own a few hardcore cds, though i don't own this one I have heard it... it's hardcore.

5 out of 5 stars an absolutely neccesity for any industrial/metal/altenative lover!!.......2006-06-23

wot can i say..this cd blew me away and i wish their earlier stuff was available on amazon as well..truly different, mind-blowing music, trust me this is a must have cd. a mix of techo meets nice heavy riffs and a great voice..for lovers of fear factory, spineshank, static x and drowning pool..

why this band isnt massive is absolutely beyond me..

5 out of 5 stars Awesome.......2006-03-24

Great CD. Not hardcore..... Whoever said that is smoking crack. I don't think they could fit much more screaming and heavy metal riffs into this (and I think if they were actually able to I think I may start involuntarily breaking things). If you like Mushroomhead and The Union Underground, you'll probably like this. More technical sounding than Mushroomhead.

5 out of 5 stars The future of music can be found in past CDs........2006-02-27

I've been listening to Crossbreed since 1997. I picked up this CD years ago when it was released and to this day I still listen to it frequently. It is by no means bland and contrary to the idiot 2 below me, this CD does offer a very lasting appeal and impression on the listener no matter how long you've been listening to it.

Keep an eye on Crossbreed, they will be a big name eventually. If you like the synthetic stylings of bands like Fear Factory, Static-X and Spineshank then you should definately check Crossbreed out.

Album Description

"Snow on the Waves" melds folk, rock, alt-country, and melodic pop into a musical crossbreed. Hayes' knowing lyrics and voice are the poetic strokes over the record's lilting grooves, propulsive rhythms, and haunting dirges. Many of Hayes' aching, twisting songs are reflections of her wanderings through the United States and the Czech Republic; themes of love and fear cast a constant shadow over the recording. In addition to writing, singing, and playing acoustic guitar on the twelve tracks, Hayes produced the record with David McKittrick.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Fresh and fiercely listenable.......2003-08-18

I was lucky to have been introduced to Hayes' music at a college reunion. Despite the alumni connection, I confess that it took a few listens before I started to like the album (and I did come to like it a lot).

At first The lyrics seemed cryptic and overly abstract in their imagery: "You sing like a windchime /
Cut in half by the fine line"; and I felt Hayes was using a gritty singing and production style when I wanted to hear something like Sarah McLaghlin.

The lyrics are worth the time it takes to mull them over (the album really should come with a lyric sheet!), and the ones that don't quite make sense to me still ring true emotionally: "Oh City... ...If you'll be the one to wear the neon lights/
I'll be the one to hail the cab".

The music adds some balm to the often bleak subject matter, and keeps things up-tempo and flowing while staying enmeshed to the songs' emotional content.

All in all, if you've found yourself in a musical slump, half-heartedly listening to the same 5 or 6 sometime-favorite albums, Snow on the Waves might be just the thing to make it all fresh again.

1 out of 5 stars Not so hot........2001-08-16

Monotonous and slow. Does not live up to the reviews given here.

4 out of 5 stars A Rare Vein of Fine Songwriting.......2001-03-26

Snow on the Waves is all achingly-emotional vocals, unshakeable melodies and trenchant wordplay, served up with honest summer-porch charm. On lovely, honky-tonk-tempo ballads like "Twice As Long," "Citadel" and "Debt to Love," Hayes demonstrates a rare gift for enduring melodic hooks and evocative storytelling. Hayes' songs are populated with smalltown strivers and survivors, trying to find an edge in lives that just keep throwing them curves, lives that are "all rain/and no parade." Stuck in temporary accomodations, phoning from rest stops and passing lanes, they are stranded between thwarted expectations and fading memories, and Hayes mines the melancholy of their predicaments to wonderful musical effect. Her voice is gentle and expressive and neatly splits the difference between the manic homespun folkie charm of Danielle Howle and the ethereal delicacy of Sara McLachlan, while her desolate, dead-on imagery -- the "leather-shoe winter" of "Get Off On a Dare" -- provides the intellectual punctuation to the swell and sway of her musicians, an ensemble that provides immaculate settings for her songs without ever once upstaging or undermining her. To hear Snow on the Waves is to be in presence of a ripening, but already confident and compelling, new talent.

5 out of 5 stars Snow on the Waves is OUTSTANDING in every way.......2001-03-24

I am blown away every time I listend to Snow on the Waves by Meghan Hayes. Her voice is truly beautiful. Her lyrics are deep and meaningful. I can listen to her CD over and over all day long. I am lucky enough to live in the DC area, so I have also been able to hear her live. If you live within a days drive of DC, I highly recommend making the trip to hear her perform.

5 out of 5 stars Snow on the Waves is Awesome.......2001-03-23

This is a great debut album by an up and coming artist. It is one of those rare combinations of great lyrics, awesome music and Ms. Hayes' voice is angelic. It is no wonder the Washington Post named her one of the top ten new local artists to watch in 2001.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Good Track Selection, but very very pricey.......2002-02-17

I'd only recommend this if you're a hard-core music collector. The price is a bit high - but it is a Japan import from Kyoto Jazz Massive, who have two different Crossbreed releases. If you're a KJM collector and like that style, along with Truby Trio etc. you'll be all set with this.

Otherwise, this CD is very very enjoyable if you can get beyond the price. From the Fourth World Track to Kyoto Jazz Massive's own track it's a very solid and impressive album. In true form, it emphasis some Brazilian beats, European fusion and electronics along with simple and real instrumentation in the songs.

What is this CD like? Well, if you have ever heard "Serve Chilled Vol 3", I'd say it's a lot similar to the second disc in that two disc compilation. But I'd also say that it could be a STRONG candidate to be a sister to "Glucklich Vol. 4", released by Rainer Truby who, of course, does a great deal of collaboration with Kyoto Jazz Massive and Wei Chi and etc.

One more positive thing about this CD - it has a group on it called "Los Ladrones", who are based out of the UK I believe. Their individual disc is FANTASTIC... but I think you have to check out Amazon.co.uk to actually get it. Good luck with the decision.

      Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Good Collection of Rare Cuts.......2005-04-04

I'm a big-time Kyoto Jazz Massive fan! What a ride it's been for Shuya and Yoshihiro Okino - and I have to include Hajime Yoshizawa to the mix since he's such a big part of their music. Over the past ten years they've put out some slammin' tracks, compilations, playlists, albums, remixes and E.P.s. The Crossbreed series, which has two volumes that I'm aware of, is a great collection of tunes and shows some of the inspiration of KJM's sound along with a tasty sampler of some of the other DJ's and artists in nu-jazz from all over the world.

I enjoyed volume two which was IMO far more of a broken beat affair. It started out smoothly with Domu feat Valerie Etienne on vocals with the cool "Sail Away". That's followed up with a Nuspirit Helsinki remix to "Que Domingo" - you can figure it to be just as jazzy as the lads remaking the cut. Touches of horns, nice beats, great sound. And then there's "Crossbreed" by Kyoto Jazz Massive as interpreted by Modaji. It was a great track on the first volume and is given a nice breath of fresh air on this one. With a nice electronic intro, fused with keys, this has an almost ambient feel for the first minute and a half. And the keys? On them in this track is Kaidi Tatham of "Bugz in the Attic" fame, so you definitely have some West London broken beat influences which are in full effect when the beat actually drops on it. Other stand-out tracks on this to me were the WaiWan Remix to "Some People", aFRO-mYSTIK's "Ifninte Rhythm" and of coure, "The In Samba" by Nicola Conte given the KJM treatment and Mr. Hermano's "Free as the Morning Sun", uncut. The Conte track was especially nice because this was the album the remake first debuted on - before the Remix project about a year later.

In the end, I liked this but it wasn't quite as strong as the first Crossbreed of 2000. There's another thing about this CD that'll get you; the amazing high PRICE! This and their numerous other imports all have a heavy price-tag because of their Japan import status. They're just very hard to find in the USA & usually Japan imports have bonus cuts so my best recommendation is if you have a friend that travels, ask them to look it up for you there. That said, I'd probably recommend this for the serious collecter only and not the casual fan. But if you still do and dig this be sure to check out KJM's other works; particularly "The View From Her Room" featuring Bebel Gilberto and "Spirit of the Sun" released on Compost Records. You may also like music by Jazztronic, Truby Trio, Jazzanova, Gilles Peterson, Nicola Conte, Towa Tei, Hajime Yoshizawa and the Bossa Tres... Jazz series.

ALSO - If you are a hard-core KJM fan, be on the look-out for 3 distinct cd's commemorating ten years of their music. One is titled "Tribute Tracks", the other "Exclusive Tracks" and finally, "Remixes". You can tell the difference because they will be in red, white and black covers, respectively (but not necessarily in that order).

      Album Description

".01" is a 10 song album which can be describes as heavy/alternative/industrial metal. The vocals range from a whisper to a scream, and it has bruising guitar riffs, and dynamic keyboards and drums beats. It is really difficult to classify as each song is different. However, it has been compared to Korn, Deftones, and old U2, depending on the song. It is considered trancy groove-core, and otherworldly. Songs like "Push", "Reflections", and "Magical" add an electronic edge and interesting backbeats.

3 out of 5 stars Great local band shows its start.......2002-02-07

ok first i am from this bands hometown i own a copy of both albums and can review this album the best of my ability.
First this isnt the Crossbreed sound or look(they wear teeshirts and shorts on the picture inside) that is on thier 2nd album Sythenic Division. Named after a battle of the bands cobncert (they lost by.01 points). While tracks like Push,Strap Down,Seasons, and Regretful Times are great (there is also i guess you could call them remixes of Regretful Times and Wicked Game after the last song. The vocals are bad. I would reccomend this to a big fan of the band but a warning you may be disappointed.

i will first admit that i dont' have the cd, i just heard em play live last night. if the cd is anything like their performance last night it will realy kick. their sound is realy hard and fast, this is definatly one made to blast

It is still a dance-track, doesn't matter if you let your mind dancing or your body moving. "Eclipse" is a fantastic powerful, but slick jazz-journey, a perfect club record as well as one you may like to listen to if you'll be at the lunatic asylum or at the dark side of the moon (hm, just joking !)
