Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Great music!.......2004-03-22

I have 7 Marilyn Monroe films, but this CD set contains a lot more songs than those which these films feature. There are some great songs on this CD, and MM sings them very, very well. I do miss the male chorus singing "ooooooh!" in the Tiffany's finale of the "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" film version of the song. My musical tastes (and film tastes) have gone retro of late. Diana Krall, Stacy Kent. And now Marilyn Monroe. As for the sound quality of the CD, it's a bit soft on the intro to the above-mentioned track, but quickly improves. All in all, the quality is acceptable, and it's great listening. There are some really quirky songs, like "Specialisation," which I simply adore with its occasional operatic outbreak. It's a fun CD. The second CD has recordings of MM guest appearances on TV shows. They're very entertaining! I can't compare to other MM CDs, but I'm very happy with this purchase.

5 out of 5 stars The ONLY Complete Marilyn CD.......2003-10-06

I have recently "discovered" Marilyn Monroe and after seeing two of here movies back to back, I was enchanted by her voice. I immediatly searched online for information on her musical carrer only to find out that she didn't have one! I found out that the only songs that were ever studio recorded were the 26 found on this comprehensive album.
All of the tracks on this CD are wonderfully restored with Marilyns voice clear and upfront on all of the tracks, not overpowered by or overpowering the band. This is definatly the difinitive collection of songs to own.
The second CD has some interesting audio clips from Marilyn that provide some light as radio shows and commercials of her time but don't expect them to be a gem. They are little more than a one time amusment.
Last, the leaflet that comes with the CD is great. It has a full list and information on all of the songs adn also inclues many pictures adn magazine covers of her, not to mention a breif biography of her and a briefer one talking about her singing carrer.
If you are interested at all in Marilyn as a vocalist, this is the CD to get.

4 out of 5 stars Probably the definitive Marilyn collection, a must for fans.......2005-06-21

For those interested in the ephemeral of Marilyn Monroe's spotty musical career(and more besides), it may be tough to beat this two disc collection. It still doesn't include her hillbilly rendition of "That Old Black Magic" from "Bus Stop"(which may be lost by now), but it has just about every other vocal side, plus a Lux radio spot, a very funny motor oil commercial, an extended(and a tiny bit excruciating)Jack Benny sketch, and another elongated bit with Martin & Lewis. Comes with a great booklet of photos and interesting minutia.
