The Living Room Tour, a live double disc named for its spare instrumentation, arrives so well coated in the Hall of Famer's particular brand of populist, listener-loving pixie dust you half expect it to leave a glowing, sticky residue on your fingers. Radiating the maternal warmth and honesty that translated Tapestry into a 25-million seller, King sprawls comfortably (aided, probably, by the couches and coffee tables hauled onstage for these shows) into favorites like "Jazzman," "So Far Away," and "I Feel the Earth Move." Older songs made famous by other artists, including "Take Good Care of My Baby," "One Fine Day," and "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," get an unfortunate, yet effective, slice-and-dice medley treatment. Carole King devotees won't find a lot of reviews that overlook the minor vocal flaws on this latest outing, but a barrel of bum notes couldn't keep the 63-year-old legend from connecting with an audience. The intimacy-to-the-masses approach of this tour suits the early-'70s earth mother material best, and intermingled with a few recent songs, the mix soothes, reassures, and satisfies. If you haven't listened to King in a while, it's not too late, baby. --Tammy La Gorce

Album Description
No one performs Carole King's classic songs better than she does. King draws from her entire, 40-plus year career, from her early hits with Gerry Goffin to her Tapestry-era masterworks, from recent recordings to overlooked gems. Disc one of The Living Room Tour ends with a show-stopping medley of songs King wrote with Goffin, songs that became the soundtrack of a generation in the 1960s. The album offers two new tunes: the opening "Welcome To My Living Room" and the tender "Loving You Forever," a duet co-written with guitarist / vocalist Gary Burr, which opens the second set. She is also joined by album co-producer and guitarist Rudy Guess, who together with Burr, add vocals and textured acoustic touches on many of the album's songs.
Customer Reviews:
You don't realize how much Carole King has influenced the scene til you listen to her sing her own work.......2007-06-23
Is this the best of her work? It's all fabulous, let me tell you, but I have hope that the best is still yet to come. This CD proves she's still out there and she's still working.
I listen to this music and think how many moments has her music been with us even subconsciously? "Pleasant Valley Sunday" reminds me so much of a neighborhood I once lived in with the garage band down the street and the lawn-of-the-month wars between the neighbors on either side of me.
Oh yeah, and I heard "I'm into something good" the first time I saw my first crush. And "Natural Woman" was my favorite song for years...just how many artists have covered this song?
This is the music a lot of us grew up with. I believe it will be around for a long time, but honestly, nobody does it like Carole King.
Where's The DVD??????.......2007-06-12
This is a spectacular "Living Room" show from Carole King. One of the finest singer-songwriters of our time. It goes without saying that this is a concert I would really have loved to see.
I guess my point here is really a question? Why didn't they film this? If they did.........please release it on DVD.
Nobody DID it better................2007-06-12
Someone is going to accuse me of writing this because I disagree with Carole King's politics. I do, but music and politics should have nothing to do with each other. See my review of "Tapestry".
A story is told that may be apocryphal, since it has been told about more than one lady...someone goes up to an aging Opera Diva and says "Madame ****, it must be terrible for such a great singer to realize you've lost your voice". The wise lady replies "Oh, no...what would be terrible would be if I DIDN'T realize it".
Listining to this album made me think of watching Willie Mays play for the Mets in 1973, or of the last few times Arnold Palmer played The Masters. Oh, the songs are as great as ever, and Carole's ability to connect with an audience remains fabulous. And, disc two does sound better than disc one. Still................
If you're a BIG FAN [like me] who just has to have all of Carole King's records, get this. It does have some wonderful moments. But if you only want one, or if you're just discovering the voice of my generation, get "Tapestry". THAT album will remain perfect forever.
oh baby.......2007-06-11
ok i'm a boomer and own tapestry. this is a version of carole king that has aged along with us boomer fans and it's great. fun, relaxed, beautiful. she has got to be the greatest songwriter of my lifetime, and to my tastes, an equally good singer and performer. love it.
Time passages.......2007-03-09
Listening to Carole's latest recording release is just so warming to the heart and soul. She brings you back to such fine memories of our childhood to adulthood compositions. Her voice is still outstanding, the only disappointment was not being in the living room with her to see this wonderful artist track through her career. Buy it.... you will not be sorry!

between swing and flamenco.......2006-11-06
It is a great fusion of various flavors, and as a result it is unexpected and entertaining all the way through.
Dan Hicks if he had grown up on flamenco, gypsy, Hot Club.......2006-03-23
Excellent! An updated European version of Dan Hicks, drawing on flamenco, gypsy, and Arabic strains rather than American roots to complement their Hot Club/cabaret. Exceptionally clean and crisp, to the point of irony. Stand-outs: tr 8-Sous la lune (sexy melancholy, deeply engaging, brooding). tr 9-L'Avenir incertain du Titanic (dark, spiky tango)
The best album I own.......2006-02-13
.
Admittedly, I'm not a music aficionado, but of the few dozen albums I own, this one far outshines the others. This is modern music at its best, a sensual melange of jazz, Latin, gypsy, cabaret, and North African/Arabic music.
Every Paris Combo output is simply a collection of brilliant artistry, but this one will be remembered most favourably by history.

Wanting to hear the sound of a balalaika!.......2005-10-18
I have not received my cd yet, but I was expecting to receive one with balalaika only, so I am already disappointed. In the samples, the orchestra is so predominate I cannot tell which is the balalaika. Thanks, Violet
From Russia, with Strings.......2004-08-09
The Osipov Russian Folk Orchestra made this fine recording some four decades ago, when the U.S. and the Soviet Union were barely on speaking terms. I imagine that some of the people who bought this record found themselves on FBI or CIA observation lists. Still, it would have been worth it, for the sheer exuberance of the music alone. The performances are bold and exciting, tinged with a hint of danger, and the listener is carried away on a crest of winter sleigh rides through places like Moscow and Vladivostock. Sure, the orchestra was capitalizing on the popularity of Dr. Zhivago, but at least they were able to find an audience. There's a little bit of hiss, given the antiquated recording instruments of the time, but it isn't enough to distract from the music. In fact, it's barely audible. I understand that they have since released a remastered version of the disc, but I'm always suspicious of perfection. One other thing: the cover leads you to believe that this is solely a balalaika show, but that isn't quite the case. There is, in fact, a whole orchestra here, but it is used quite smartly. Those other instruments give the music the air of authenticity, and create a kind of old world mood, but it's the balalaikas that carry the day.
Spectacular.......2004-07-15
This album is not only one of the finest technically, but also musically. It was recorded back in the early sixties with the finest equipment and the finest audio technique ever devised. This has to be one of the most enjoyable listening experiences the listener will ever experience, as is all of the Mercury Living Presence series. We are privilaged to have these great recordings re-made on CD, and this particular one has to be at the top of the list. It will challenge any other recording technique, and it will lift your spirits every time you listen to it!
Nothing beats this for exuberance.......2000-02-06
The sound of massed balalaikas is a real treat, especially when recorded with as much vividness and realism as on this disc. The Osipov Folk Orchestra also consists of bass balalaikas, accordions, flutes, Vladimir Shepherd's Horns, and percussion and they produce quite a kaleidoscope of sound! I particularly enjoy the comedic Vladimir Shepherd's Horns, heard to their most humorous effect in the Tchaikovsky piece, which is guaranteed to make you smile. This recording uncannily conveys the impression of a live event. Of course, the performers deserve most of the credit for this. Their unanimity of attack and sheer exuberance are heartstopping. Even if you think you don't like Russian folk music, give this a try!

best in show 2006.......2007-01-05
Okay, not even sure that it came out in 2006. However, that is when I first heard it, so that is what counts. I really hope they put out another album - even if it is only half as good as this one, it will be better than 95% of what I get to hear.
Buy it, burn it, steal it, whatever you have to do it is worth it.
Great Covers! And Great Originals Too!!.......2006-03-01
This band has a sweet tone mixed with a folk and blues style. They hit the grove on every track! Buckets of Rain is a great song and they pay quite a tribute to it with their eclectic style!
The Fun Is Contagious.......2005-07-14
Redbird's debut recording is a very sweet collaboration between Jeffrey Foucault, Kris Delmhorst & Peter Mulvey. While none of these artists is a household name, each has established an individual solo career and come together here with a blending of sound. Their collaborative work together is exquisite. While each is represented by at least one track that they penned, the emphasis is on the music. Part of the charm of the set is the diversity and range of songwriters whose material they perform. This was apparently recorded in Mark Olson's living room in Fort Atkinson WI & has an informal feel.
R.E.M.'s "You Are the Everything" is a bright acoustic flower, "I'm very scared for this world, I'm very scared for me, Eviscerate your memory." "Lighthouse Light" by Ry Cavanaugh is a dreamy folk melody with Kris' lovely alto, "There is light in the distance, It's coming in from the west, There is light in the distance, Thinking of the one that I love best." One of my favorite tracks is the gorgeous "Patience" written by Mark Sandman who was the lead singer for the band Morphine. Kris' delivery is stunning as she calls to allow for time to heal. "Moonglow" is a standard that Benny Goodman recorded in the 1930s and has been covered by jazz artists like Duke Ellington & Count Basie as well as female vocalists like Billie Holiday & Joni James with a new version on Carly Simon's soon-to-be-released "Moonlight Serenade" CD. Redbird's acoustic version has a jazz flavor but is recast as an intimate folk gem with all three voices blending, "I started praying, 'Dear Lord please let this last.'" Mitch Jayne was a member of the Dillards who recorded his song "The Whole World Round." Redbird's version has a bluegrass flavor and polishes his lovely melody. "Buckets of Rain" is a classic Dylan song with one of his best melodies and great lyrics that Redbird nail in this catchy quiet version. The set concludes with a version of a song Tom Waits penned & first recorded on his "Mule Variations" CD. This is an excellent acoustic folk set from a group that obviously is having a blast playing together. The fun is contagious. Enjoy!

Album Description
Originally released as "The Living Room Tapes - Volume 1" & "The Living Room Tapes - Volume 2", this two CD set brings together, for the first time, both volumes of "The Living Room Tapes" in one package, in addition to over 30 minutes of previously unreleased material. All tracks have been digitally re-mastered. The total playing time of both CD's combined is almost two and a half hours long. This two CD set contains 23 songs including 4 previously unreleased bonus tracks. The music contained on this two disc set is some of the best Lenny Breau ever recorded. This is a rare opportunity to hear Lenny play music by Merle Travis, Jerry Reed, Bill Evans, McCoy Tyner, and many well known Jazz Standards. Lenny also performs many solo pieces in addition to the duo material with clarinetist Brad Terry. Two of the bonus tracks reveal the humorous side of Lenny's personality and are sure to put a smile on your face.
Customer Reviews:
A Mountaintop Experience For Lenny Breau Jazz Guitar Fans.......2004-04-13
When I first received this CD it stayed playing in my computer between every other CD. I really love the whole range of Lenny's modern solo chordal guitar style represented at such an obviously happy and good time in his life.
His responsive, sensitive, artful backing styles when Brad is blowing clarinet are improvised mini-masterpieces. Great creative variety in his walking bass lines, tasty intuitive chording and counterpoint, and some of his best technical work combining fluid and gorgeous lead lines, while you never hear his technique get in the way. Some of his albums inspire deep sighs and tears in your eyes. This one makes you smile and sometime laugh out loud all the wat thru'. It is truly a joyous CD!
The Best of Lenny Breau's Posthumous Releases!.......2003-05-01
This beautifully remastered 2 CD set is the best news Breau fans have had in years. His playing is not only technically astounding, it's playful, imaginative and expressive. As well, this set captures the array of influences that shaped Breau's style: jazz, blues, flamenco, country and more. The previously unreleased material is awesome with Breau doing a couple of hilarious comedy skits. The remastering job done here is remarkable, a vast improvment on the quality of the original releases. GET THESE CDS!!
The music speaks for itself.......2003-05-01
What a great release! The music is wonderful and the banter between Lenny and Brad is playful and thoughtful. As someone who has been involved with music my whole life, I have to disagree with the previous posting regarding sound quality. The quality is there. The highs are crisp and the lows are rounded...a perfect mix! Do yourself favor and take a listen. You WON'T be disappointed.
The BEST Lenny Breau EVER!!.......2003-05-01
Anyone who is a fan of Lenny's music needs to purchase this recording. This is far and above some of his best recorded work. The sound quality is excellent throughout and Lenny's choice of material is also excellent. Volume One was originally released on LP and then on CD but has been out of print for many years now. Volume Two has NEVER been released on LP and was available on CD years ago. The new 2 CD set contains both volumes with extra tracks and all tracks have been digitally remastered. First class Lenny Breau!!
One of Lenny's Best.......2003-02-14
I must admit. At first I was a little skeptical about Lenny and Clarinetist Brad Terry. Mr. Terry proves himself equal to the challange of playing with Lenny Breau. The interplay between clainet and guitar is on a level rarely heard anywhere. The Bourbon Street cd with Lenny Breau and Dave Young come to mind. However there is more varity on this cd.There is also plenty of guitar solo. With Lenny playing Travis style, Jazz and Flamenco. All on a seven string nylon guitar. This was his first recorded performance on that insturment. There are also several electric guitar solos as well. I highly recommend this cd. As this is one of Lenny best.

Very very pretty........2000-01-05
As stated by the opening line, "You know the fun of watching fireworks is built pretty much around the a capella vocal that you do with or after each explosion, alright? We provide the fireworks, you do the oooh's and ahhh's." And ever since I put this wonderful album on, I haven't stopped doing just that. If you enjoyed the warm Farfisa on Yo La Tengo's "Autumn Sweater," liked the drums on Arab Strap's "Philophobia," and enjoy the sweet beauty of bands like Low and Luna, then this is definitely for you. This album takes my breath away like nothing has in a long time.....at least not since hearing Yo La Tengo's "I Can Hear the Heart..." two years ago. Buy it soon because you will be very, very glad that you did.
Clear summer night-no work tomorrow-Lets just sit right here.......1999-07-29
Wow!! What a wonderful group AAS are. Gorgeous music that blends so well ya forget there is soo much going on at times--- soft instruments/vocals just gliding over each other. This music has an odd effect of calming my mind and energizing my spirit. I had the good fortune of seeing AAS on the last night of their tour. As a whole they looked as bad as they smelled----Ahhh, but the music!!! They pulled off every luscious note,-crystal clean. They could of played all night. You have shows and you have experiences. They were an experience beyond simple music.
A Welcome Sound.......1999-01-15
This CD continues to grow on me. It reminds me in some way of very early day Pink Floyd. However you listen to it, it is great for any mood.
Simply Excellent.......1998-11-29
I first heard about this group on National Public Radio and decided to buy their CD on a lark. Well, I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised. This is the best CD I listened to for quite some time. It's the perfect music to relax to after a long day at work.
WONDERFUL!.......1998-10-06
This CD is excellent! Turn off all the lights, light a few candles, turn on this CD and it sets the most amazing mood for meditation, romance, or just plain relaxing. I would recommend this CD to anyone, along with any of the rest of American Analog Set's music. It's all just beautiful.

Product Description
Instrumental piano hymns from artist, Chris Rice.
Customer Reviews:
Music for meditation.......2006-04-27
A friend at work lent me this CD - and immediately I needed to own this. Yes, this CD is only piano - and it's only hymns. I play this at work when I need to take the stress out of my day. I play the second CD of this (that I own) at home when I'm doing Bible Study, or just want to meditate.
This is one of those CD's that have you singing along with the hymns - and because he plays them so many different ways, you can sing all the verses, if you so choose.
One of my favorite cds!.......2006-02-17
This is by far one of the most peaceful, worshipful cds ever recorded! The person who previously reviewed it and complained that there was no hint that it was all piano obviously didn't see the big piano on the cd cover. I love this cd! The other Chris Rice cd's can't hold a candle!
sets my heart free!.......2005-12-03
This CD from Chris Rice is full of beautiful music! No, there is no singing, but you can hear just as much of Chris Rice's heart for worshiping God through his piano artistry as through his other music. Hearing his "versions" of such classic hymns performed on the piano with obvious thought, feeling, and wonderment made them come to life for me. This CD never fails to pull me away from my day and into worshiping God! I highly recommend it along with the Christmas Living Room Sessions.
No Singing.......2005-10-15
I love Chris Rice but was severly disappointed with this purchase. It has no singing at all. That's right. None! And the worst part? No where on the CD jacket do you find any hint that its all piano. Very deceptive.

A great, thoughtful album.......2005-02-26
I saw Anders a few weeks ago and was blown away by his live performance. I picked up a couple cd's the following day and this is my favorite. Catchy vocals, provocative lyrics, and memorable hooks. Greasy Money is such a gritty, slick song while Home Coming is a short, naked, and bold track I had to listen to 4 times in a row after the first listen. Vocals sound a bit like Paul Simon, only with some of that good ole' Nawlins flavor. Highly recommend this album....
ACOUSTIC NEW ORLEANS BLUES........2000-09-08
A refreshing new release from a New Orleans guitarist who refers to his music as "cosmic blues". That is an interesting characterization for 14 original and catchy tunes that are firmly grounded and may better be described as roots music with obvious delta influence.
Osborne's vocals are soothing and soulful and almost recall a younger Van Morrison. His guitar playing is consistent and upbeat.
In addition to Osborne, nineteen other musicians make an appearance on the disc including Keb Mo' on "Greasy Money". This is definetly one of the better acostic releases of 1999 and one that deserves support from blues fans. You just can't miss with this one!
He's Got the Groove.......2000-03-07
I had heard a lot about Anders Osborne (most recently at a Dr. John concert) and decided to buy his cd without having heard his music. And I'm so glad that I did because I absolutely love it! He does an excellent job of combining great guitar playing, with a great voice, and great lyrics - and I love the beat. I highly recommend this cd - you'll be very glad that you bought it!
definitely a keeper.......1999-09-25
This is the first anders album I have heard but hopefully not the last. great mix of blues that is just enjoyable to listen to

Customer Reviews:
It's ok, but greatest hits is better.......2006-08-20
This album offers a different kind of Harry. The CD was not quite my taste in what he offers.
Great album.......2006-05-04
I think this album is one of Harry Chapin's greatest albums for three reasons.
1. THE MUSIC - The instrumentation on this album has a similar theme while not being repetitive. Mostly, the musical format is folk mixed with country and some horn-driven rock. Do not get me wrong, I like most of Harry's musical arrangements on all of his albums, but some albums seem to jump around a little too much (Sniper and Other Love Songs is a good example).
2. THE MATURITY - This album portrays a Harry who is wiser and happier, having just survived a marital crisis with his wife, Sandy (which was contrary to the quickie rock-star marrriages of the time). His marriage and love for his family restored, this album shows a Harry who is not blissfully ignorant of his surroundings (listen to "Why Do Little Girls?" and you'll know what I mean), but is never again to wallow in self-pity, as he sometimes did on records before this.
3. THE PRODUCER - Though you can tell in some spots that this an album definetely made in the 70s, Chuck Plotkin, the producer for this album (as well as the frequent cohort on Bruce Springsteen/E Street Band albums) gives this record a homey feel that lives up to the record's title, but he still helps Harry inject a "freshness" to make it enjoyable, even if you are not a fan a country-folkish rock.
In short, with a steady musical theme, honorable maturity, and a talented producer, Living Room Suite is a must if you are a hardcore Harry Chapin fan. If you are a casual fan, try it out. You may like it or you may still prefer Harry Chapin ala "Cat's in the Cradle", but try it anyway.
Well.........2003-08-16
I'm fifteen years old, and this disc is by far my favorite (not that I have them all.) I found an old copy in my mother's CD's, and have been listening to it since I was 11. I loved his voice from the very begining, and listened to this to fall asleep. I especially love 'why do the little girls.' I love the way he writes so poingently about the struggles women have, and sometimes still do, face in the real world. Many versions of the songs here I like better than other places. I would recommend this disc to any Harry Chapin lover, and to any aspiring Harry lover. It's amazing!
Harry done grew up.......2001-11-01
After all the stories of alienation, loss and heartbreak this album was an amazing change for Harry. It seemed he'd finally grown up, settled down and was truly enjoying his family. If you feel like you're doing any of that then this album is still a must have.
The pride and joy of parenthood in "Dancing Boy," the indictment of non-caring institutionalism in "Flowers are Red," these are all things that any parent can identify with. I got this album the first time when I was a young parent with small chidren.... and it was very shortly later that I heard of Harry's untimely death. It made the album feel even more special. I was so glad that Harry had finally seemed to find some peace near the end. Gone was the angry youngster who'd written "Sniper" and in his place was, as was the case of the woman in "Sequel," a man who finally liked himself. And isn't that the place at which we'd all really like to be when our own lives end?
Actually, although I do have this on disc now I can hardly play it anymore. As the song says, "There will come a day when your dancing days are done. When Daddy and his dancing boy have dwindled down to one." Time has flown by, it's happened in my life and the memories of that time are oh so bittersweet.
Moved by all his music.......2000-11-04
I first heard Harry in 1972. I became an ardent fan. I saw Harry with his son (he was very young) on stage in concert soon after this album was recorded. He performed "Dancing Boy"; it was marvelous. I think of this as a stage in his life when he was really in touch with family and friends in a very loving way. I find this to be an exceptional album; lyrics, music and his feelings come through so strongly. It is different from most of his other recordings, I think that's what makes it so special.
