I had never heard of Au Revoir Simone until I saw them in New York, opening for (the phenomenal) We Are Scientists. I came with an open mind about an opening band I was unfamiliar with, so I was pretty surprised when three charming girls in pretty dresses walked out onto the stage and began singing adorable melodies and playing their keyboards with unrelenting passion.

Basically, this is music my grandmother would like- but that doesn't mean that I don't like it too. The first description that came to mind when I saw them was a female version of the Postal Service, but that just sounds like they're copying Ben and Jimmy when they're actually very original. Although their simple electronic beats and sweet vocals are not usually my scene, I can say I thoroughly enjoyed them.

After the show, they were waiting at the Merch table to talk with the crowd and sign autographs. The first girl I met was Annie, who was quite possibly the sweetest person ever, and could not stop thanking me for saying that I liked their set. Annie, as well as Heather and Erika, signed my friend's and my shirts. I was so happy that I chatted with them because I realized that what you see is what you get with Au Revoir Simone. They really love what they do, and it shows.

All in all, even if you're not the biggest fan of music like Au Revoir Simone's I would give them a chance. "Hurricanes" is a really good single, with its fair share of "La La"s and a pretty catchy little chant "This message is for all the people, the people who are always waiting". And if you get the chance to see them live, definitely do so. If not for the music, at least for the fabulous dresses!
