Norah Jones blew everybody away with her jazzy, country-tinged, Grammy-winning debut CD, Come Away with Me. On this recording, Jones doesn't mess with her trademark formula. Under Arif Mardin's cozy coproduction, Jones is supported by her writing partners, her Handsome Band, and some special guests (country legend Dolly Parton, Levon Helm and Garth Hudson of the Band, and jazz drummer Brian Blade, to name a few). Jones's Texas-twanged vocals and her sparse acoustic and electric Wurlitzer piano lines enliven the CD's 13 tracks, from the light and lively single "Sunrise" to Tom Waits's "The Long Way Home" and the bouncy duet with Parton, "Creepin' In." Jones's soul-baring piano/vocal rendition of Duke Ellington's "Melancholia," retitled "Don't Miss You at All," proves she's a true Blue Note artist with unlimited potential. --Eugene Holley Jr.

4 out of 5 stars Good, but not the best.......2007-06-17

"Feels Like Home" is a welcome addition to any fans' collection. I gave it four stars simply because I did not think it was as good as her first or third CD. If you like Norah's other work you will like this CD, but if you don't have extra money or you would like to introduce yourself to Norah Jones purchase "Come Away With Me" or "Not Too Late" instead.

2 out of 5 stars a snoozer.......2007-06-09

Wonderful intimate voice, great musical heritage, extremely monotonous songs....great if your trying to lower your bloodpressure or achieve REM state. This ain't jazz it's elevator music.

Somewhat remarkably, the youthful trio Rascal Flatts has an uncanny ability to sound 20-something going on 13. They are often dismissed as just another slick, contrived "boy band," though that hasn't kept them from chart-topping success. Admittedly, these Rascals do sound slick and even generic on run-of-the-mill teem anthems like "Fast Cars and Freedom" and "The Day Before You." Yet, on a few shining tracks like "Bless the Broken Road," "When the Sand Runs Out," and a lovely hidden cut called "Skin," the chic threesome also betrays poise, maturity, and thoughtfulness amid its chart-conscious predictability. --Bob Allen

1 out of 5 stars Dreadful and soulless tripe.......2007-07-03

I'm a city boy with a deep appreciation for country music, that is, for real country music, primarily from the great artists of the past. I think that Johnny Cash and Hank Williams were genuises. I love Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn. I like the outlaws like Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, and Willie Nelson, a whole lot. I like Lyle Lovett, Dwight Youkam, Steve Earle, and a bunch of bluegrass and rockabilly artists and even some country swing musicians from the 1940s and 50s. And I have recently discovered the music of the great Townes Van Zant and love it. There are a number of others I like, and I consider them above average to great.

Having said that, I do not like this band, Rascal Flatts, and bands like them one bit. I think that they are third rate mediocrities, whose success is a result of their packaging as much as anything else. Their songs have all the profundity of a Hallmark card, or perhaps a Chinese fortune cookie, and are sung in an incredibly irritating, whiny American Idol/Radio Disney style. In short, there is nothing here of merit. I urge the fans of this group to do a bit of research, and check out some real country.

Monsoon Wedding is Mychael Danna's second collaboration with film director Mira Nair, (Kama Sutra was the first), and he has again compiled a winning soundtrack. Danna explores a wide range of emotions, from solemn to celebratory, through different generations of Indian culture. The contemplative "Good Indian Girls" and "Hold Me, I'm Falling" feature Danna's trademark piano ambience over traditional Indian instrumentation, and the vivacious "Baraat" sounds like a Punjabi variation on Dixieland, while "Delhi.com" ventures into dreamy ethno-techno territory. Sukhwinder Singh's "Today My Heart Desires" serves up lively bhangra rock, and Laxmikant Pyarelal's "Today the Weather Plays Tricks on Me" (performed by Mohammed Rafi) swoons with strings and male vocals. In all, the soundtrack's pleasing variety of Eastern music mirrors the film's old and new worlds living within a singular culture. --Bryan Reesman

5 out of 5 stars Loved it!.......2007-03-24

I just saw the movie MONSOON WEDDING and I absolutely loved it! Of course, I just HAD to have the soundtrack, so I bought the Cd recently and loved it too! WOW!

The Cd will leave you in a happy mood... Wonderful up-beat songs, many are so danceable and hipnotic. I've been playing this Cd all week ...I just wish it were longer because I would love to have more Cds like this in my Cd collection.

5 out of 5 stars Just as fabulous as the movie!.......2007-01-31

This is an excellent soundtrack from an excellent movie. The music is fantastic - makes you want get up and move your feet! It's got such a happy, wistful, exotic flavor throughout the CD. I think this will probably be one that I wear out from listening to it so much!

5 out of 5 stars Love It, Love It, Love It.......2007-01-21

I just love this CD. I'm preferential to the work of Mychael Danna and this is another awesome work of his. There is everything from old Indian love ballads to the popular Bollywood music of today, with some very beautiful instrumentals in between.

I'd recommend seeing the movie too. As well, I'd check out Danna's music for another Mira Nair movie, "Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love."

4 out of 5 stars Culture-Happy-Dance-Reflect-Appreciate-Savor-Relax-Laugh.......2006-11-06

Above I listed some words that first came to mind when I thought about this cd.
It is very Culture rich and soaked in Indian flavor. It's colorful and makes you happy with a laugh or two; as it seeks to portray the traditional music typical of a Punjabi wedding in Delhi, India.
You want to dance with most songs and sit quietly to reflect with others. I listed appreciate because we often don't sit back to appreciate the richness that other cultures provide. My 2 year old appreciates this music in her broken wanna be Hindi mimic.
She dances as does my 6 year old to this music. It's really a great CD but I would recommend seeing the movie first.

4 out of 5 stars Are we "Cleared For Takeoff" because it "Feels Like 67 Again".......2007-07-04

Hi Airplaners:

As the author of the Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent" I put together this information for you and hope it gives you the best source of making a judgement about the recording. If you don't already have the music, please don't be turned off by the change of sound quality. Many times in order to acquire previously unreleased music you can't always have it sound like George Martin was part of the project.

This is the same as "Cleared For Take Off " Acrobat (U.K.) ACMCD 4001 CD released 11/6/03 (Taken from the Winterland, San Francisco, California performances of 3/10-3/12/67) but puts the tracks in a different order and on two CD's. The sound quality changes throughout the CD and the pops come at no extra charge. Although the CD wasn't put together with the greatest respect to the band or fan (Some songs fade-out and have wrong titles), those that don't own the material will be interested. There should have been one version of everything played during the three nights. The CD doesn't include "And I Like It", "Let Me In", "Fat Angel", or the jam. No information was given in the liner notes about the dates used for the songs so I have included that for you. "3/5 Of A Mile In To Seconds" 3/11/67, "Don't Let Me Down" 3/10/67, "Don't Slip Away" 3/10/67, "She Has Funny Cars" 3/12/67, "Let's Get Together" (Fades-out) 3/11/67, "High Flying Bird" 3/12/67, "It's No Secret" 3/12/67, "Come Back Baby" (Listed as "Jorma's Blues") 3/12/67, "Plastic Fantastic Lover"(Intro cut) 3/11/67, "Runnin' Round This World"(Listed as "Running Round The World") 3/11/67, "Somebody To Love" (W/"Leave You Alone" which was not listed) 3/10/67, "The Other Side Of This Life" 3/11/67, "Thing" (Fades-out) 3/11/67, "Tobacco Road" 3/10/67, "Today" 3/11/67, "White Rabbit" 3/12/67, "Bringing Me Down" (Listed as "You're Bring Me Down") 3/11/67, and "My Best Friend" (Listed as "You're My Best Friend").

Thanks and be well,

5 out of 5 stars I am addicted.......2007-07-06

For 3 months, my Norah Jones CDs have taken over my car stereo. This woman is very talented!

4 out of 5 stars The voice of a Angel..........2007-07-05

You can tell I am smitten by her singing. I absolutely loved "Come away with me". Can't remember how many times I have heard that album. This CD to wasnt quite at that level, but still incredible. The Song 'sunrise' is phenomenal. Buy this pack, for the DVD is a nice bonus! Highly recommended CD.

4 out of 5 stars At list price, overpriced. At the club price, a good value........2006-03-21

At the time of this writing, there is an option to buy this Deluxe Edition at the "club price" of $7.99. I happen to own the club edition, and I never bought the original CD, so I didn't end up buying most of the music twice.

What you get over the non-Deluxe original release is three extra songs and a bonus DVD. The DVD is pleasant, with four performances from a Madrid concert and two music videos. Also included is a 17-minute Norah Jones interview. All of this is non-essential, in my opinion, although Norah's live version of the Gram Parsons song She is a great addition to her expanding repertoire of country-tinged material.

On the audio CD, two of the three bonus cuts also have a country flavor. Moon Song is superior to those two. It is a sweet little tune that should have been on the original release, as a bookend to Sunrise. Why wasn't it?

Oddly, the sound quality of the bonus cuts is more brilliant, dynamic, and immediate than the cuts from the orignal CD release. Puzzling. You may not notice, but careful listening will reveal that this is true.

Norah's debut was not exactly jazz. But it was more jazz-influenced than Feels Like Home, which tilts toward the folk and country side of the musical spectrum. I cannot give this album five stars for that reason. Norah's talents are greater in the jazz-influenced arena, even though she has an obvious affection for other musical styles as well. I think she would do well to choose more cover songs, rather than originals written by herself and bandmates. They are good songwriters, but not great songwriters. Chances are you'll find yourself getting bored of these tunes quicker than the songs on Come Away With Me.

At the right price, the Deluxe version of the album is the obvious choice. Three extra songs and six videos cannot justify the list price, though.

3 out of 5 stars It is not Jazz.......2005-12-25

It is a nice peice of work, but it is more country music than jazz. However, I liked the DVD very much. I removed two stars because I expected to listen to jazz, not country.

5 out of 5 stars Norah's better than ever in "Feels Like Home"!.......2005-09-16

I LOVED "Come away with me" and was nervous about Norah's sophomore album. Would it be as good? Turns out I liked it even better than the first. Tunes are catchy and slightly more upbeat than the first album. Added bonus tracks are good too. I love Moon Song and Sleepless nights. Would HIGHLY recommend it!

For right-minded buyers of the reissued Muppet Christmas Carol soundtrack, the odds of disappointment are about as remote as Miss Piggy's chances with Kermit. If you loved the movie, you will love the loopy mayhem of the Muppet Brass Buskers ("Good King Wenceslas"), the cartoonish malice of the black-hearted misanthropes Marley & Marley ("Marley & Marley"), and the hope-swollen harmonies of Tiny Tim and Family ("Bless Us All"), Muppeted here to hilariously humble effect. If, on the other hand, your interest in this disc has more to do with its inclusion in the way-narrow Christmas-record-for-kids category--if the spirit of the season doesn't extend, for you, to the magic of the Muppets--you may want to keep browsing, as it's a soundtrack first (overture, instrumentals, and all) and a Christmas CD second. That's not to suggest you're stuck with an un-fun disc should it land on your holiday stack without a prior screening, though. Miles Goodman's score sweeps and inspires, and certain tracks--"One More Sleep 'til Christmas" and "Fozziwig's Party"--are future classics. (Note to the right-minded: After a misstep on the original release, Martina McBride's version of "When Love is Gone" is back.) -Tammy La Gorce

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Finally released.......2007-05-23

If your Christmas isn't complete without listening to this music, this CD is a must buy. The audio quality is excellent despite the age of the film. Michael Cain and Belle come out crystal clear in their solo and ensemble work. The surprise of this album is the inclusion of two tracks (one by Beaker and Bunson and one by Scrogge's primary school teacher) that are not in the film. They are fun but unexpected. I could only ask that the CD last longer with such beautiful traditional music, but alas there is no more music to include. Maybe they could market Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island together in the future?

5 out of 5 stars Good CD.......2007-02-14

My wife has been looking for this soundtrack for years. We were very happy to find it and get it so fast. This has some of the best music ever written for a movie.

5 out of 5 stars the muppet christmas carol cd.......2007-01-19

Amazing the songs are so cleaver and i have bee waiting for this for a long time, it has been out of print great cd and the movie is so awesome!!

4 out of 5 stars Holiday Classic with Kermit , Miss Piggy, and Michael Caine.......2007-01-12

The score from The Muppet Christmas Carol is full of the spirit of Christmas. The familiar story by Dicken's is given new life with the great score (mostly written by Paul Williams). Great energy is relayed to the listener as Scrooge (Michael Caine)is painted in words and as Bob Cratchet (Kermit the Frog) sings with his co-workers 'One More Sleep 'Til Christmas'. The love song duet between Scrooge (Michael Caine) and his fiancee during a ghostly vision brings great pathos to the character. For lovers of the Muppets and or Dickens, there is no better way to enter into the spirit of the season.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome.......2007-01-08

These are some of the most heartwarming songs. I even find myself singing the ones about poor Mr. Scrooge.

4 out of 5 stars Well done !.......2006-09-29

This is a great song by Madonna and the remixes are very, very good.
My personal favorites are the "Above and Beyond" versions.
Overall,the remixes are top quality.

5 out of 5 stars Best Single Remix.......2006-06-08

Of all of Madonna's singles, this is the one to get. The Above & Beyond remix is the best of them, and is the same one used in the video. It's awesome!

5 out of 5 stars Superb Diversity of some Excellent Mixes.......2006-06-08

This CD has a great range in it's mixes for Madonna's "What It Feels Like for a Girl"; from the high energy, melancholic Above & Beyond 12" Club Mix to the warm, groovy, laid-back Tracy Young Cool Out Radio Mix. I purchased this CD a couple of years ago and it continues to have a high play count for me.

5 out of 5 stars But seceretly, you'd love to know what its like! wouldn't you?.......2006-05-08

This is by far my favorite Madonna maxi single. The orignal song is an ambient melodic gem from Madonna's MUSIC album released in 2000. Her maxi singles are allways worth getting, but mainly for serious fans. The WIFLFAG maxi, I highly recommend to everyone, YOU SIMPLY MUST HAVE IT. When I first got this and listened through all its 9 tracks, it made my hair stand on end. This single is almost like a whole album in its self. I danced, cryed, and felt the ethereal and sureal quality of these mixes. ITs amazing the range the covered in the mixes of just one song. BUY IT! you will NOT be sorry!

5 out of 5 stars Top Madonna's Singles.......2006-03-14

What it feels like for a girl?
I don't know... but this song is really good, so I decided to buy its single to check if it's still as good as it looked like! And it is!!!
I loved that one! all the songs are great, the music just fits in every remix I find, and now I can say 'what it feels like for a girl' is inside the top5 madonna's singles!!!

3 out of 5 stars deb2rogerblessedone it's 5 stars!! (I hit the wrong button).......2006-12-22

This CD as the young folks would say "IS THE BOMB"! I previously had "Feels Like Rain" on cassette tape and I lost it. I had ordered the CD and to hear these songs are really spirit-filled and annointed. My favorites are " Don't Lose Your Candlestick" "In Your Will" " Yet Will I Trust In Him" and "Victory's Coming". These brothers are truly talented. I'm curious about Issac. Did he used to sing with John P. Kee & The Community Choir? If anyone knows, please tell me. The song that moves me most is " Don't Lose Your Candlestick". Every time I hear that song, I have to hold back my tears because I have a son who has turned his back on God and when I hear "Don't Lose Your Candlestick", I think of my son. Brian Pierce did an outstanding job on this one. " Victory's Coming" makes you wanna dance " Victory's coming and it won't be long, no more sad stories or even a sad song, hold on my brother a change is on the way, victory's coming and it won't be late". I love hearing Issac, Lowell & Brian sing this one. I'm a Men of Standard fan and out of all their CD's, " Feels Like Rain" will always be my favorite. I was sad to hear that Michael Bacon is no longer in the group and I know that Issac Carree, Lowell Pye & Brian Pierce will continue. I love this CD and I play it all the time! I wear out " Victory's Coming" & " Don't Lose Your Candlestick" along with " Yet Will I Trust In Him". Lowell Pye does an excellent job on this one. God bless you my brothers, continue to use your talent for the Lord.

5 out of 5 stars Their best CD yet.......2005-04-14

I knew Men of Standard had nice songs but this CD impressed me. It was simply the bomb. I enjoyed the whole CD, which is a rarity. All the songs were very enjoyable, but two was my favorite; Don't Lose Your Candlestick and Let It Rain. If you really like contemporary gospel I recommend this CD; It reminds me so much of Commissioned. The fact that Fred Hammond and J Moss helped produce this CD made it stand out. I enjoyed this CD so much, I don't mind listening to it over again, that's how good it is.

4 out of 5 stars Even better than the 1st...these guys are truly talented!!!.......2004-10-20

After putting out an impressive debut album, they put it down once again with this effort, sounding better and having a more mature sound than the 1st. Tho' it could be attributed to the work done by Fred Hammond and J. Moss on "Lord, You're Everything", "Feels Like Rain", "My Love For You Will Go On", "Nothing Like Heaven", and "God Take Care Of Me", the two most anointed songs on this LP are none of the above. My favourites are "In Your Will", and the heart-felt "Yet Will I Trust In Him". The latter song really, really touched my spirit and my soul, having the same effect that "Anointed Song" had from their 1st album. The best songs in gospel music are the ones that are taken right out of scripture, and this one is no different. Excellent! Other notables are "Lord, You're Everything", "Feels Like Rain", and "Don't Lose Your Candlestick". Overall, better than the 1st, but every bit as anointed.

5 out of 5 stars Let it shower, feels like rain!.......2003-11-01

Men of Standard's second album is off da hook. It's one of the best gospel records out there. With PAJAM, Fred Hammond and Marcus Devine in the Producer's Chair the album's sound is a melody of Ballads, R&B, Rap, Soul and Traditional Gospel. Songs which may lift your soul are "In Your Will" and the Fred Hammond produced "Lord You're Everything" I must say I love the songs that J. Moss wrote, "Nothing Like Heaven" "God Take Care Of Me" and "Feels Like Rain" He also shared his talents of rapping and singing on this album which made the album extra special. If you a slow person you might like most of the album but if you want something hip listen to the glorious "Victory's Coming" which has two versions on here (Original, Skate Mix). There's also the Fred Hammond produced "My Love For You Will Go On" which is the message that God is giving to you and what should be giving Him. Amazing, wonderful, soulful, uplifting and an album of talent is all showcased on this one. Well done to Men of Standard for the second time around!

4 out of 5 stars highly anointed.......2001-06-28

This is what gospel listeners have been waiting for!, funky music blended with adlibs that touch your heart and soul. Tere was a time that i was to lead people in our church into a session of worship and i was feeling low. I put on the tape " feel like rain " and the song "staying in your will" lifted my spirit, and since that day whenever i feel low that song lifts me up. Keep the fire MEN OF STANDARD!!!! and may God keeo lifting you up in this arena of gospel music.

5 out of 5 stars She has a home in my heart........2006-08-10

I was a hardcore 1970's Linda Ronstadt fan, right up to the "What's New" album. I was not mature enough in my 20's to understand her change in music, but at 47 I have seen the light. As I work my way back (buying CDs) from "Hummin' to Myself" I can't believe the music that I have been missing out on. If you were and still are a Linda Ronstadt fan, do yourself a favor and buy this CD. You will not be disappointed. This is some of her best work. As a fan, I am back for life. Thank you Linda.

4 out of 5 stars Softspoken and relaxable Ronstad magic.......2006-01-04

Yeees. Track 5 The Blue Train has the magic of Ronstad softspoken and halfway wispering voice which realy tickle youre soul. Emmylou Harris on the background vocals, fills out the magic with here voice too. There is a certain dreamy feel over this song. Pure Ronstad magic. The other tracks are filled with more ups and downs. Track 2 Walk on the more fast moving song with Allison Krauss on the fiddle is anyway a good listen to . But it is the moody feel of Ronstad voice that runs
trough the whole CD that gives the magic a certain touch, that lifts up more anonymous songwriting. On the weaker side we have the cover of the Neil Young masterpeace After the Gold rush which break the moody feeling. It doesn`t fit
here voice in a way. The Randy Newmann song Feels like Home Track 6 has much of the same problems. But hey, soon we are back into gear with Track 7 Teardrops will fall, which has the rhythm and feel of a good hit song. But how can you go wrong when you get help from Allison Krauss and Emmylou Harris ? If the whole CD was up to Track 5 The Blue Train standard it would have been a solid 5 star.
But anyway Linda Ronstad as an artist put some "musical angeldust" in your ears.

5 out of 5 stars Into everything.......2005-02-06

I appreciate things that are familiar, and music is an area of art that allows people to think small and never try to appreciate anything as large as the Wagner Ring cycle of (German) operas. These songs are all in English, but the title song, "Feels Like Home" by Randy Newman comes from his version of "Faust," a very German theme. Linda played Margaret (the poorest, nicest and most beautiful girl in South Bend) in the CD version released in 1995, but Bonnie Raitt sang the best song in the show on that CD, and this version by Linda with Emmylou Harris singing some harmony, with the title of the song on the cover, does everything these musicians could do to steal this song. This version might be more popular than the Randy Newman collection because the rest of the songs live up to the title so well.

"The Waiting" by Tom Petty is a great way to start anything. When I say the music is familiar, I truly mean: where have you been if you have not heard this one? The final song, "Lover's Return" by A. P. Carter from 1935 has Alison Krauss on fiddle, and that should seem familiar from the best movie soundtracks lately, as well as from "Walk On" (the second song on this CD).

"After the Gold Rush" (1970) by Neil Young has an exciting piano part, updated with string synthesizers, glass armonica, and an orchestra for this recording, which features trio vocals: Valerie Carter, Emmylou Harris, and Linda Ronstadt. I think I previously heard a jug band version of "Morning Blues." "The Blue Train" has the expected theme: "I'm taking it one way to nowhere Afraid you might be there . . ."

I've had the album so long, all the songs seem familiar now, and that was what they were aiming for when they released it. This is music you can live with as well as through.

4 out of 5 stars One of Linda's best albums from the 90s.......2004-04-26

There is a bit of a backstory with this album. Many of the tracks were recorded in 1994, intended for the sequel to the popular collaboration album with Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton from 1987 called TRIO. There were label issues and behind the scenes shuffles, and ultimately TRIO II did not get a release until early 1999. However, many of the tracks appear on this album, with slightly different arrangements. Those songs that appear on both include "High Sierra", "Lover's Return", "Feels Like Home", "After The Goldrush" and "The Blue Train". Some might say that's a bad thing, but they are all great songs, and it's nice to hear them as a Trio on one hand, then to just hear Linda's versions. FEELS LIKE HOME is a nice, if overlooked, album. It opens with an inspired cover of Tom Petty's "The Waiting", which is an instant highlight. The songs that ended up on TRIO II that are also on this disc, are highlights. The whole album is pretty relevent, and she still sounds pretty good.

5 out of 5 stars Great Album.......2004-02-14

In my opinion, this is the best of Linda's efforts over the last decade or so. Actually, if one listens closely, this CD marks the beginning of the decline in Linda's vocal ability. Don't get me wrong, at her worst, Linda can still sing circles around any of the so-called "Divas" of today. Still, it is a little depressing to hear this once-strong and soaring instrument, begin to decline in quality--which are resulting from her health condition, I can only surmise. Every album Linda has done since FLH (there have only been a handful) sound as though Linda is simply tired and disinterested. Her voice still sounds good, but Linda just no longer has the ability to make it soar like she used to.

I understand that she is supposed to release a new jazz project some time this year, which I eagerly await.

2 out of 5 stars The best? I think not........2004-01-11

This disc includes some songs that, while I like them, are not what people might consider the "best" of G&S. Of course, anything by G&S is good, it's still not the "best of the best."

There has got to be something that better represents the G&S canon.

1 out of 5 stars can't understand the words.......2004-01-08

Don't know about those other reviewers, but I just can't make out very much of the lyrics. Maybe those folk have better CD players or better hearing, but it's pretty much a blur to me. I strongly recommend "The Ultimate Gilbert and Sullivan" instead.
