A Great Re-issue.......2004-01-28

This recording came out on vinyl in 1980, and it is great to finally have on CD. It is a wonderful foray into British Isles fiddle music from Baker's unique perspective--that of an American finger-style guitarist who is open to many influences from around the world. The effect is lovely, Celtic-sounding guitar music that is vibrant and melodic. It has an immediacy to it that makes you feel like you are in the room with the musician, and none of the over-produced slickness of some new-age guitar music.

I love this CD because the songs have such beautiful melodies. So often with solo acoustic guitar music the song is secondary to the virtuosity of the artist. On this CD the song comes first, and the results are memorable. This album is tied for first place on my "most listened" list with Guy Van Duser's "American Fingerstyle Guitar". Great job, Mr. Baker.

In addition to the treasures of the past, Steve loves to create new traditions with the tunes that flow from the sweet river. Floating along with his dulcimers, his music is enjoyed througout the US, Europe, the UK, New Zealand and Australia. I Celebrate Life! was inspired by a poem by Jean Ritchie, the 20th century populizer of the mountain dulcimer. The other tracks come from various moods and settings from Eulberg's 25-year adventures with both dulcimers.
