3 out of 5 stars Hawkwind-'Year 2000:Codename Hawkwind' (NMC/Pilot).......2003-12-07

Nicely packaged in a soft cover snap case, shouldn't be very hard to spot as it sort of stands out in the CD bins.Disc one is another reissue(how many does that make now?)of the 'Space Ritual II' disc as it's been remastered and gives the listener a chance to hear slightly different versions of some of the tunes.Starts off with an alternative edit of "Space Is Deep",then really gets good as "Orgone Accumulator","Upside Down","Time We Left(This World Today)" and "10 Seconds Of Forever" proceed.Disc two is several assorted live cuts recorded in Cambridge,UK in September,1972.Have heard most of these tracks before.A bit raw sounding, but the quality is fine.Liked "You Know You're Only Dreaming","You Shouldn't Do That","Hurry On Sundown" and "Paranoia" the best.Another cool thing about 'Codename...' is it has an inner-changeable cover.Aimed pretty much at Hawkwind completists.

2 out of 5 stars Another Stinker.......2002-12-04

Be careful when buying from Hawkwind's catalog, there are far more poor sounding releases than good ones. This one sounds like trash.Get "In search of Space" "Hall of the Mountain Grill" or "Quark,Strangeness+Charm" instead. The sound quality is much better.

3 out of 5 stars Until a new domestic release of -Space Ritual-, this will do.......2001-07-18

The first CD is a re-release of -Space Ritual- volume 2, now out of print in the States. The second is a 1972 live performance, minus Lemmy.

The original Space Ritual record is now available here only as an import that costs more than fifty dollars. The recording here was from the same period. Some of the tracks are not as good as the original Space Ritual, but the version of -Brainstorm- here is extended and uncut, unlike on my vinyl copy.

Hawkwind's hypnotic yet driving psychedelic metal and Calvert's sciffy lyrics work much better live than in the studio. Hawkwind, moreover, had one of the best rhythm sections of any psychedelic band. The original Space Ritual was a classic for those who like noisy head trips. This will do until it return.

1 out of 5 stars HORRIBLE! SHOULD BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS!.......2000-03-10

This 2-CD set is an awful recording. The first CD is nothing more than a compilation of tracks from Hawkwind's "Space Ritual vol. 2", sounding inferior to the original from which it was copied. The second CD was taken from a live concert, and contains less than exemplary versions of songs which can be found on Hawkwind's many other recordings. Also, the sound quality of this CD is just downright pathetic....almost like a bootleg(and, not even a good one). "Year 2000..." was released by Demi-Monde, the same record label owned by ex-Hawkwind bassist Dave Anderson that also put out "Bring Me The Head Of Yuri Gagarin"(overwhelmingly voted as the worst Hawkwind album ever in terms of sound and performance quality on a recent internet poll). With the release of "Year 2000: Codename Hawkwind", it appears as though "Bring Me The Head...." finally has some competition for the "Hawkwind Albums Everyone Should Avoid" category.

4 out of 5 stars Space is deep and they where born to go........2000-01-15

This record has a great load of songs, all which have been remastered. The remastered songs sounds awesome, but it doesnt really sound like a classic Hawkwind record anymore. It get's sorta ... well ... too clean ... I don't know whether this is good or bad...sometimes it works and sometimes it feels like they just should have left the song as it where before. Anyways, if you can't get your hands on Doremi fatsol latido , Spaceritual or Hall of the mountain grill : BUY THIS !

    2 out of 5 stars Hawkwind - 'Codename Hawkwind,Vol. II:Live From The Darkside'.......2006-08-26

First off,I'd like to say that I am really tired of seeing this SAME title released over and over ...and freaking OVER!People! For those of you who may not know,it's the SAME disc that we old school Hawkfans know as 'Bring Me The Head Of Yuri Gagarin'(see my review).I've actually seen online reviews of this release from fans that APPEAR not to realize as to WHAT this CD title is.Only reason I'm giving it a two-star review instead of one,is because of the artistic cover. So FOR completists,it's almost painful.

    1 out of 5 stars Caveat Emptor.......2003-01-09

Let the buyer beware."From the darkside" is a bootleg quality disc of Hawkwind live at the Empire Pool in London in 1973.It is also called "Codename Hawkwind Volume 2".It also seems to be the second disc of the four disc box set "Welcome to the future" which I see gets some very poor reviews for it's sound quality( or lack thereof).
So,if you are looking for a murky, dark recording of Hawkwind from 1973,look no further.

    4 out of 5 stars Darkside Live.......2001-06-25

A dark sounding concert that could have been a lot better if the performance was more energetic but still it holds your interest because of the song list and the band lineup. This one is for true Hawkfans. Can't beat Space Ritual for sound and show quality, still the best!
