Album Description

Grindcore ARTIST BIO: Cattle Decapitation can be described as the bastard child of Cannibal Corpse and Carcass weaving a vicious blend of Gore-grind and Death Metal into complex structures with the end result being some of the most brutal and catchy songs written in the genre today. Cattle Decapitation takes a different approach to their song writing than most bands of the same sort that tend to focus mainly on fictional subject matter. The new album Humanure starts off where their debut album on Metal Blade To Serve Man left off, dealing with the rape of the earth, it's natural resources, and the unjust treatment of animals. Humanure will be the album that metalheads have been longing for; something as ferocious as Cannibal Corpse, something as gutturally disgusting as Carcass, something offensively disturbing as Autopsy, and something as politically charged as Napalm Death.

Hailing from San Diego, CA Cattle Decapitation originally formed in 1996. The lineup initially featured David Astor on bass and Gabe Serbian on drums, both of whom were then also members of the underground phenomena The Locust. Seeking a replacement for their original vocalist, the band turned to Travis Ryan, who had actually been playing drums for another San Diego metal band, Strangulation, in addition to serving as vocalist in a gore metal band called Anal Flatulence. With Ryan on board, Astor moved from bass to drums, and Serbian moved from drums to guitar. The 3-piece quickly released two albums, the Human Jerky LP (on the Nevada label Satan's Pimp) and the Homovore CD/LP. Next, they added a bassist, Troy Oftedal, with whom they recorded their third full-length, To Serve Man, released in the fall of 2002 on Metal Blade, a move that would expose them to more of a death metal-oriented audience (as opposed to the hardcore/grindcore one that they had mostly been playing to before). In 2002, the band added a second guitarist, Josh Elmore (formerly of 7000 Dying Rats), who eventually took over as the band's sole guitarist after Serbian left in order to devote himself more fully into the Locust.

Recorded with producer Bill Metoyer (Slayer, WASP, Six Feet Under) Humanure will feature the latest addition to the band, drummer Michael Laughlin. The band parted ways with drummer David Astor in May of 2003 due to inability to live up to the obligations of touring and regular necessities of the band. Michael, previously of CREATION IS CRUCIFIXION, is most definitely a fitting replacement. Humanure has guest appearances by ex-members of the band including Gabe Serbian and the rest of his band The Locust and the original vocalist, Scott Miller.

Humanure will surely become 2004's veggie-gore epic. The band promises that you will be upset, disturbed, disgusted and completely hooked by this material. Forget what you know. The shit hits the fans on July 13th, 2004!!!

1 out of 5 stars I can't believe I liked these guys..........2007-03-20

Then again, I liked Tool when I liked Cattle Decapitation, so figure that out. These guys make Cannibal Corpse look like Death for cryin' out loud. All of the songs sound the same, the subject matter is lame, the musicianship is average at best, and just not worth it.

And finally, ignore what your parents told you as a child and judge this album by it's cover.

If you want way better death metal albums of 2004 (and better in general), get Vader's "The Beast" and Suffocation's "Souls to Deny." Seroiusly, Cattle Decapitation is a joke that should be ignored by metal fans at all costs.

1 out of 5 stars LAME NU-DEATH METAL FOR WIMPS.......2006-06-16

This is utter garbage for the shopping Mall-metal fans of today. Awful CGI-artwork, stupid song titles, and terrible music and ideas. This band is why death metal today is a total joke. Metal Blade used to put out classic metal and are now just a shell of their former selves. I hope the label, and this band, are proud of themselves.

2 out of 5 stars Not For The Carnivorous.......2006-06-14

Looking past the title of the album and the name of the band is not easy to do when it comes to the guys in Cattle Decapitation. The music is also not for the faint of heart and is a non-stop assault on the listeners senses. However, you have to expect this sort of extremism when you choose to listen to a Grind Core artist that borderlines on the Gore Core aspect as well. The crazier and more in your face they are, the more apt to be remembered they will be. The CD at first listen is as brutal as its name denotes and should you not be an expert in this form of music you will find it largely repetitive. As I listened I felt one track blended into the other with little difference and tempo change and it was only noticed when I paused to see where the heck I actually was. It was then that I came to the realization that a number of songs had gone by and I was approaching the close of the album. However, when I witnessed them live I was taken aback by their drive and delivery as lead singer Travis Ryan screams and growls his way through a very energetic set. The bands song titles and lyrical content are abrasive as hell and this band are not for the weak stomached. Meat lovers are not encouraged to read too deeply into the subject matter, but if you do take this as your warning. There is a level of politics and animal rights addressed in these songs which shows that the band is a little different from others who play similar styled stuff. These grind-core bands have an audience but I am not one of them as to me it is a lot more chaos than I enjoy in a single sitting. Despite this, Cattle Decapitation aims to get their message across to you in the most in your face method possible. Be advised that the lyrics are very explicit but unless you can follow them in the songs you only have to worry about reading the booklet that is provided. Hamburger anyone?

5 out of 5 stars KICK A$$!!!.......2006-04-25

I've heard of Cattle Decapitation through word of mouth & reading various articles in various metal mags & have always wanted to check them out, but didnt hear them for the 1st time until a couple weeks ago. My roomate was having a party, & during an intense & VERY close game of beer pong, one of my friends came over & popped this CD in. And man... it has EVERYTHING about death metal I like... vicious vocals, insane blastbeats & fast death/thrash drumming, ripping guitars, all that good s#it! It's totally brutal... & I listed to some of the 1st Cattle Decapitation CD too, "To Serve Man," & its just as brutal. Great stuff here, I totally recommend either album by them. Yeeeaaahhh!!!

4 out of 5 stars Humanure.......2005-08-16

I'm not quite sure where I should begin with this one. I first came across Cattle Decapitation when an employee at my favorite cd store recommended them to me. I showed no interest in them at all. Looking at the album cover and the band's name, I thought it was a joke. A little while later I happened to come across a Cattle Decapiation track on a cheap compilation cd I had purchased, and do you know what? This song (The Earthling) wasn't bad at all. It had everything any death metal fan can appreciate, growling vocals (similar to Deicide), catchy-yet-technical guitar work, slamming drums. I quickly made my way back up to the cd store later on that week and picked it up (for a very reasonable price I might add). After giving it quite a few good listens, I've come to the conclusion that this is no masterpiece, but it certainly should not be overlooked because of politics or because of the album cover. Fans of death metal that have made it far enough to discover Cattle Decapitation should not stop there or they may be missing out on something great.

3 out of 5 stars A WORK OF EXTREME SOUNDS.......2006-01-05

Well, this is a good CD, not great, not excellent, just good. I really don't think that the vocalist can produce all the growls by himself, some device must be use, or really he needs to see a doctor. Anyway, it manages to create good sounds, great mix of the band, and a good adrenaline bust. It makes you want to get in the card and step on it. By the way, the "clean" means the cover, all the songs are in their original glory with gore and guts and cursing and the rest.
Now, all the lyrics are full of gore images, and to some, disgusting topics. I'm not into goremetal, so I wouldn't know, but for me, they are not that awful as Cannibal Corpse. In summary, if you like grindcore and all similar styles, go ahead, you won't regret it. For me, Bolt Thrower is far much better band, but way superior to High on Fire.
