5 out of 5 stars One of 2004's Best.......2005-04-15

Having heard the track 'It Gets Me Going' on a CMJ sampler in 2003, I figured their disk would be worth taking a chance on.

I am really glad I did!

This is one of those disks that is instantly rewarding to the listener, yet does not wear out it's welcome with repeated plays. All 11 tracks are enjoyable, without anything even remotely bordering on filler territory.

Hilights include the energetic opener '2040', one of my favorites on the album, and probably of 2004. The mellow, yet charming 'I Still Live At Home', and the infectious 'On Pilot Mountain' are also outstanding tracks. 'National Holidays' is another great tune, possibly one of the most vibrant and upbeat songs about child custody visitations that i've ever heard.

I definitely agree with previous reviewers about some of the band's influences. Early/Mid 70's Steely Dan definitely comes to mind.

Bottom line, don't pass up a gem like this one.

Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Pretty Great.......2005-02-05

It's so great for me to hear some good rock, without the teen fare or lack of talent you usually find these days. The band plays eleven great songs that definitly found a place on my iPod Shuffle.

5 out of 5 stars A Rare Find.......2004-06-24

My first exposure to SpyMob was at a show in DC this May. Eric, the drummer, gave me a copy of the CD later and I listened to it nonstop. I have to warn you, I'm a huge MSP music scene fan so I might be a bit bias... but this is a great album. In an age of free downloads and ripping music, this is one of the rare CDs I would actually be willing to pay full price to own. It's got songs for every mood and the lyrics are amazing. This is a band with musical talent and a great sense of humor. If you get the chance, see 'em live. If you don't, grab "Sitting Around Keeping Score" now.

You can thank me later. :-)

5 out of 5 stars Well worth the wait.......2004-04-28

I received an advance copy of Sitting Around Keeping Score in the summer of 2003, when the album was slated to be released by Arista. After raving to everyone about what a great album it was, I was livid when the record was dropped from the release schedule. Fortunately, it has finally been released, so everyone can hear what a great group this is. I could describe the music (okay: XTC meets Steely Dan meets Todd Rundgren meets...), but better still, check out the samples on the Amazon page.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent band with a refreshing sound.......2004-04-12

The best way to descirbe these young men from Minneapolis is the blend the old school with the new. Their sound is fantastic! Their sound is also refreshing, unique and original. I have a 5 disc CD changer in my car, their CD remains the one I never change.

I would say if you like Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder, NERD, Prince or anyone that sounds close to them, you will love these guys.

You will not be dissapointed if you buy this album!
