Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Produced and sung by Fabrice and Paula GUITTARD respectively, MOONSTONE's eponymous album had to honour the guitar ! The quartet forming the skeleton of this present French combo excels in a brilliantly played hard-rock style, sung in perfect English. The music sometimes reminds of that of Lana LANE or Melissa ETHERIDGE. The band started in 1994 as SLACKER, and first worked out with a few well-chosen covers (AC/DC, HELLOWEEN, KISS...), before setting out in the writing of its own compositions. As its predecessor, "The Second Rune" (2003) was published on the Brennus label. This brilliant opus develops an elegant, melodic and powerful music, in line with the new heavy-metal wave that rages these days throughout Europe. Not to be missed !

5 out of 5 stars doing what they do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-02-18

i liked all three releases from rhinobucket, and thought this was their best, straight ahead rock and roll ,good guitar work done here , very tight playing, and simon does an excellant job keeping the back beat for the band, if you like early ac/dc with the great bon scott, you will like this album. am still waiting for the new release due out in march and am wondering if the new guitarist can fill the shoes of greg fields. keep on rockin' georg............................

4 out of 5 stars Rhino Bucket - 'Pain' (Moonstone).......2005-02-16

'Pain' was the band's third and apparently their last CD they put out.I probably wouldn't give it a four star rating,if they didn't sound SO much like AC/DC.I saw them play a club once and except for the fact they had no cannons going off or any fifty foot inflatables of a giant Angus, they PRACTICALLY were AC/DC.'Pain' is a bit more raw that their two earlier albums, but in this case that's a good thing.Tracks I found to lure me to play this CD over many times were the title cut,"Pain","Mad Maggie","What'd You Expect?" and "The Hard Grind".Nice growling Bon Scott-like vocals, heavyily tuned guitar work and superb drumming.Nothing original here, but hot dang...this record ROCKS!!Dirty Looks, eat your heart out.

5 out of 5 stars I beg to differ..............2004-05-05

........with the other reviewer. We agree to disagree - at least I do! Pain is THE BEST of the three Rhino Bucket releases. One of my all time favs! Bird on a Wire is one of the best songs with one of the best performances ever. Rhino Bucket doesn't need a major label. Too much red tape & great rock such as this is all but non existent these days in the mainstream. A comeback (to the mainstream) would be nice.......www.rhinobucket.com - they're working on one of their own. Horns up!

2 out of 5 stars They ran Out Of Steam...and Money...and Promotion!!!.......2004-02-22

It's such a shame that this album was not up to standards like its 2 predecesors, but there are reasons for it. One....no major Label support, its on a indy label & the production lacks severly! Two...loss of original drummer (replaced by Simon Wright of AC/DC-DIO fame), three..loss of orginal bass player.
Its just not what the 1st two alubums..are...Hell, The second effort is no where near the Classic Quality of the 1st in my opinion..but it still rocks! if you want rhino bucket..buy the 1st..its expensive on here because its out of print..but I have ben lucky enough to find several copies at Flea Markets of all places..for $5.00 a pop.

3 out of 5 stars Spectacular Musicians come together to make a good record !!.......2006-11-15

The once rhythmn section of the Mark 3/4 Deep Purple reunite, to be possibly the main reason to purchase this project. Although, it is quite good as a whole,it does lack some great qualites created by other italian countrymen like Dario Mollo's projects but better than the Chris Catena project. Nonethelss, anyone who can draw Glenn Hughes out of his schedule and aknowledge the fact that the greatest voice alive today should sing on this record, also the inclusion of drummer Ian Paice and other guests to boot is quite an ordeal and full marks should be given. It has some passages heard before and does have that type of rock that only a few can stll pull off but on a scale from 1-10. I say it is a 7, with most of my 10's going to the excerpts given from Hughes.
If you like this CD, you should try "Living Loud", or the Dario Mollo stuff-"Voodoo Hill" or also go back and take a listen to the late 80's early 90's outfit --"Badlands"
thanks hope this helps!

5 out of 5 stars VERY Hard Rock.......to buy !!!!.......2006-08-30

This CD Rocks !!!!
My favourite songs are Rose in Hell (Glenn Hughes on Vocals - Ian Paice on Drums), Slave of Time (kelly Keeling), Not Dead Yet (Mr.G.Bonnet) but ALL the songs are awesome...

Moonstone Project...one of the BEST release of 2006!!!

4 out of 5 stars Good, Yes, Great, Not Really.......2006-07-25

The only reason i feel compelled to write this review is out of respect to any old school rocker getting ready to shell out amazon's ridiclously high price for this cd. Yes it is in the 70's era of music, no it's not heavy, barely hard, a solid rock record but nothing extrodinary. I disagree with the editors review and the two present reviews by fans. Right now you can buy much better hard rock, check out Glenn Hughes/Music For The Divine or even better than that Ian Gillan/Gillan's Inn, both of these are recent releases.

5 out of 5 stars Gotta Agree With "blewis"..........2006-07-01

This brings back some serious heavy, classic sounds! Graham Bonnet & Glenn Hughes do some great work on this record. The all-star list of players, Carmen Appice, Tony Franklin, Ian Paice, Steve Walsh, etc... bring hard rock justice to 2006. Matt Filippini sure knows how to bring a crew together. Listen to Rose in Hell, Fire & Water, & Moonstone. Great tunes from an era that seemed to have went aimless & adrift.

5 out of 5 stars A hard rock classic already!!.......2006-06-06

Now this is a truely amazing CD! With inspiration and musicianship from Deep Purple, Rainbow and other hard rock bands from the 1970's Moonstone Project resurrects a wonderful sound that demands to be heard! I'm a 48 year old rock n roll fanatic and I have collected over 2000 cd's and 1500 albums to date and this is one of my all time favorite cd's already! It's that good! Damn good! Sooooo good it must be purchased! It must be listened to often and artists like Matt Filippini must be encouraged to continue making cd's just like this one! This is the antidote to bad rock music and pop icons like Britney Spears! Crack open this cd and heal thy soul! Radio one get busy!!!

      3 out of 5 stars background music.......2006-07-22

I am a big fan of David Arkenstone; I've been following his progress since 1989. This is not the atmospheric tone-poems that an Arkenstone fan is used to. It was the soundtrack for a decidedly off-kilter futureworld-type movie (and he wasn't even credited for it at the end, at least I couldn't find his name anywhere; the movie - same title - was so bad, maybe it was his choice). The cd opens with a very martial-sounding let's-go-get-the-bad-guys theme, and I like that piece, but most of the rest of it sounds like what it is - background. I usually write to Arkenstone's music, but this is far from his best.

        Album Description

Digitally remastered reissue of the 1969 solo album from the former vocalist for The Blues Project., a breath-taking folky singer/songwriter effort drenched in mystery and wonder. After the debut album from The Blues Project, early lead vocalist Tommy Flanders seemed to disappear off the face of the earth! A couple of singles appeared, actually recorded by his former band...and then this strange, muted example of what nowadays is referred to as Wyrd Folk. The faded, melancholy vibe herein is somewhat unsettling, as the ghost of a fairly straight acoustic Pop album is dimly apparent, and Tommy's voice still sounds occasionally as positive as it did on his early solo singles. Rev-Ola. 2007.

4 out of 5 stars This should have been released during the 1980's.......2007-02-08

Quiet Riot will always be remembered for two things. The first is their 1983 album 'Metal Health.' The second is the rate at which Quiet Riot sped back down the charts, due both to lackluster albums and feuding amongst the band members. While the 1984 follow-up 'Condition Critical' did sell over a million copies, to say that Quiet Riot failed to live up to their earlier success is an understatement. What they didn't fail to do was produce some of their best music while flying under the radar. Released independently back in 1993, 'Terrified' stomps all over the three studio albums which Quiet Riot released after 'Metal Health.' These albums were 'Condition Critical', 'QRIII' and 'QR' (aka: 'Quiet Riot'), the latter of which featured Paul Shortino on lead vocals. The three albums did have their merits, some more than others, but 'Terrified' is clearly the better product.

First things first, most fans agree that 'Terrified' is Quiet Riot's heaviest album. Released in the 1980's, immediately after 'Metal Health', this would have been received more warmly than the album they did release ('Condition Critical'). Production here is quite limited compared to Quiet Riot's major label efforts. However, it allows the individual members to shine a little bit more. Fans of Carlos Cavazo will best enjoy his guitar work on selections like "Rude, Crude Mood" and the terrific instrumental "Resurrection." Frankie Banali, well-known for his work outside of Quiet Riot (with the likes of WASP and Heavy Bones), showcases his talent in the closing minute of "Psycho City" and throughout "Cold Day In Hell." Kevin DuBrow's best vocal performance could very well be the acoustic Small Faces cover "Itchycoo Park", which he recorded as a tribute to his favorite singer Steve Marriott. The late Kenny Hillery proves to be a good fit on bass, in place of usual Quiet Riot suspects like Rudy Sarzo and Chuck Wright. It is worth noting that Bobby Rondinelli (The Lizards, ex-Black Sabbath, ex-Blue Oyster Cult, etc.) contributed drums on a few of these tracks, this is explained by the fact that he was in on the sessions before Banali ultimately rejoined Quiet Riot. Over the years, Quiet Riot has had a lot of different lineups. This version of Quiet Riot, featuring Banali/DuBrow/Cavazo/Hillery (& Rondinelli), is one of the better ones.

Like other Quiet Riot albums that came before and after this one, 'Terrified' does feature a couple of cuts that are weaker than the rest. Despite this, none of the ten cuts are cheesy or even forgettable. 'Terrified' is an album that a Quiet Riot fan will want to listen to on repeat. The songwriting was more of a band effort this time around and at least a couple of outside songwriters are listed on the credits. As a result, this release is filled with anthemic choruses that will stay in the head of the listener. One other plus is that the heavy keyboards and background vocals, prominently featured on 'QRIII', are nowhere to be found. Quiet Riot went back to basics for 'Terrified.' They even put the trademark mask back on the album cover.

Getting to the songs, this is straight forward rock and roll that conforms to what one might expect from Quiet Riot. The music, the lyrics and Kevin DuBrow's distinctive vocals will sound familiar. Unlike later releases like 'Down to the Bone' or the newest cd 'Rehab', 'Terrified' doesn't stray too far from the formula. "Cold Day In Hell" gets the album off to a heavy start. "Loaded Gun", which seems to be mistitled on Amazon's track listing, slows things down a little bit and the listener gets to hear a more menacing Kevin DuBrow. The title cut ("Terrified") still makes it into Quiet Riot's live set on occasion and so do both "Itchycoo Park" and "Psycho City." For those of you interested in hearing some of these selections from 'Terrified' in concert, I'd recommend the live Quiet Riot dvd/cd set from a few years back. "Rude Boy" and "Dirty Lover" are a pair of back-to-back raunchy numbers that will get longtime Quiet Riot fans pumped. "Rude, Crude Mood" is probably the heaviest cut on this album, aside from "Cold Day In Hell." The first single from 'Terrified' was actually "Little Angel", which is a song that lead singer Kevin DuBrow would rather disown. The instrumental "Resurrection" can be found at the very end of the album, which is the perfect spot for it. It might have sounded out of place somewhere in the middle.

There might be a few readers wondering if they should pick up this album. If you like Quiet Riot at least a little bit, then this is a no-brainer. 'Terrified' is a very solid four stars. A lot of these songs are good enough that they could have been included on a Quiet Riot greatest hits album, if somebody at a major label had bothered to acquire the rights for these songs. It is just too bad that this record has gone out of print and it was such a low-profile release. If it had come out on a bigger label and a few years earlier, things might have went quite a bit different for Quiet Riot. As of early 2007, fans are able to locate this album under the alternate (import) title of 'Cold Day In Hell.' Everything is the same, except for the cover art. All ten tracks are included on that import. Cassette copies of 'Terrified' are still relatively easy to obtain, too. As for the original 'Terrified' cd, the easiest way to find it is used. Copies vary greatly in price, depending on where you find it.

What if someone reading this never liked Quiet Riot and doesn't have any of their albums? Then you'll want to pass on 'Terrified', too. It is just more of the same and your mind is already made up.

Richard Band, who writes music mainly for schlocky third rate horror movies wrote the score for this confused inquisitional movie..Given that it is alledgedly"based"on the Edgar Allen Poe story, the film,as it unreels shows no association whatsoever with Poe,except for the fact that a pendulum torture scene is included.Band's score ,like the award-winning score for the original,Gregory Peck-Lee Remick version of "The Omen" has an ominous chorus chanting"Satani"and so forth in latin, along with some rather sinister sounding gregorean chanting, and the usual terror/suspense cues...The film has to do with Torquemeda, the inquisitor, and has a lot of torture and brutality, perpetrated mainly on a pretty young woman(playing an accused witch)who is either nude or semi-nude
