Sweet Seraphic Fire brings together two unique bodies of American sacred song: choral compositions from the New England singing-school tradition and the most popular Evangelical Protestant hymn texts in historic American use. In the late eighteenth century the New England singing-school movement produced America's first great sacred-music style, employing several genres of unaccompanied four-part choral compositions with the melody in the lead (tenor) part. The enormous popularity of singing-school music also promoted a canon of hymn texts shared across America's competing Evangelical Protestant denominations. This recording contains neglected masterworks from the New England singing school that also helped to create the American hymn canon. Marking a more recent turn in this process, we have also included some new settings of traditional Evangelical lyrics written by leaders in the revival of singing-school music that has blossomed in the Northeast since 1976. ! Selection of pieces for this recording was determined by correlating "The Norumbega Harmony"--our collection of one hundred six historic New England singing-school compositions and thirty contemporary works in traditional style--with a list of the three hundred most frequently printed hymn texts in America from 1737 to 1960. --Stephen Marini

This is a REALLY cool album of shape-note singings, I particurlarly like EVERY STRING AWAKE and ANTHEM FOR EASTER.
Some of the songs are kind of dreary, (Hatfield) but all in all this is COOL!!!

The first time that I listened to JimmyEatWorld immediately I surprised. It is a great band, one of best bands EMO of the scene. "Bleed American" is a surprising song, very sweet song and at the same time with a Heavy Rock Riff. "The Authoruty Song" is a Californian song style, and a precious ballad like "Hear you Me". Very Well By JEW and the idiot of Fuenchy that I invite myself to listen to the disc its house. Then, Buy it in amazon.com . They are not going away to regret. And The Piratery Of the Disc and the stupid of Heriberto and Chibi and Gazu and, off course, THe EMo Of Morgado Loves this Disc!

I love this single. I happened to pick up a copy of it before it was re-released as Salt, Sweet, Sugar. Included is the enhanced Bleed american video, the demo track of a the athority song, and Your house Rock version. Finally, Splash,turn, twist is included on this, which is the bonus song on UK and Japaneese copies of the bleed american album. A great rarer item for jimmy eat world collectors.

If you weren't a Jimmy Eat World fan before, you will be after this album. I had friends who LOVED them and I just thought they were okay. After hearing this album, I've been converted! A definite MUST BUY!!

I am a fan of Jimmy Eat World, and I love there music, and there is a different album for every mood you are in. I bought this cd and I have liked it. Its is a bit short, but sweat. The band itself is great! It shows that a band does not have to look like morons to be good, and get peoples money. If you are a fan buy, if not take a listen and im should you will like it.

Punk is dead, I heard it today........2006-07-27

This was the third album Marky Ramone recorded as a bandleader after the Ramones split up. I believe that the Speedkings were an already existing group that Marky joined after he was asked to. Possibly they had Marky join them to get publicity, but Marky is one of the best punk drummers ever, so it works as more than just a publicity stunt. As for this CD, it's an average punk album. It's well played, but the songs aren't anything special. The CD ends with four bonus tracks of Marky and the Speedkings playing Ramones songs live in Germany.

This album rocks.

I don't get why Marky didn't stick up to that project instead of becoming a cover band of himself.

The SPEEDKINGS Album kicks butts and so did the live shows.

A GREAT album which brings back Rawk to what it should be..mean..hard..raunchy..sexy..fun..conviction..and being yourself, no matter what you are..be real.

It makes me feel good to hear such a cool album, there are so many [bad] bands nowadays.
It's just one of the best band I've heard, it's fast and loud, it's the perfect sound for rawk & punk addicts!

Buy this album, you won't regret it!!!

More than I had expected.......2002-12-30

I saw this CD at a store, and snatched it up as fast as I could, even though I hadn't heard any of the tracks before at all. The songs on the CD are all obviously (as you can tell by the track listing) more mature than The Ramones' stuff, and to be honest, had Marky's name not been on the front cover I probably never would have given the CD a chance. But hell, it's Marky! And to my surprise the songs aren't even all that bad, some of them are really great and the rest are good (but I've got to admit that this CD is better than just about every new "rock" band out there put together), and the four Ramones cover songs that come as a bonus are really good. Of course Marky delivers an awesome sound on the drums, and Nick Cooper's (the lead singer) voice doesn't have that damn whiney sound that a lot of other bands do! Halleluja! Overall if you hate most of the new music you've been hearing on the radio, and if you like the Ramones, you should get this album - you'll enjoy it.

I got an advance copy of this album and I was amazed with the raw power on this album. This is by far the best album Marky Ramone has delivered since the Ramones called it quits. Forget about the Intruders, this is real rock and roll ! A real rollercoaster to hell, hard guitars, nuclear drums and a voice that spits out all the anger. I am sure some people will hate this record but I love it. After hearing this I can't wait for Marky and his new band to record another fine album !
