Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08
The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!
I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.
The one complaint I have is the last CD. This deals with the orchestra. I wanted more of a tour of how the orchestra has been used through history up to the present. Instead, it was a tour of how different groups of instruments sound. I thought it could have been better. The other 6 CDs are excellent.

Customer Reviews:
Sometimes the Pain of Love has nothing to do with S&M.......2007-01-25
THE GOOD:
She Was Hot. The best song here, new wave with heavy guitars. Engagingly smutty, this is htekind of song the Stones did best.
Undercover of the Night. Not a great song by any means, but better than 80% of the album.
THE BAD:
Wanna Hold You. Generic, braindead rock n' roll, it's pretty much the Stones going through the motions.
Too Much Blood: A disco song with horror-themed lyrics, including references to An Officer and a Gentlemen; the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and cannibalism, ruined by Jagger's random raps and the fact that disco isn't all that great in the first place.
All the Way Down: a pseudo-ballad with some amusing lyrics, but otherwise it doesn't work out.
THE UGLY:
Tie You Up (the Pain of Love): the Stones' answer to the Velvet Underground's Venus in Furs lyrically, in that both are about S&M. But while Lou Reed made poetry of the then-taboo subject, Mick and the boys come off sounding like a cartoonish charciture, drenching it with distracting mid-'80's production to boot.
Feel on Baby: WHO told the Stones they could play reggae? Whoever did was a misinformed liar.
Pretty Beat Up: Describes me after suffering through this song/album.
Too Tough: Essentially the same song as Pretty Beat Up, which wasn't that great to begin with.
It Must Be Hell: A standard '80's rocker with embarrassing political lyrics that (sadly) foreshadow some of Dirty Work.
Arguably the worst thing the Stones ever did. The '80's weren't a good time for them: even the much-lauded Tattoo You is (to me) mediocre and half-baked, not to mention bombs such as this and Dirty Work. For GOOD '80's Stones, I'd check out Emotional Rescue, the only decent album from that period. Or you could buy virtually anything else - even Goats Head Soup; 12x5; December's Children and Satanic Majesties are better.
throw away.......2006-11-11
decent forgotten record.......2006-10-09
Undercover..........Underrated! .......2006-09-23
I agree with others who think this is not their best. Other than "Tattoo You", "Undercover" is the only other album of their's from the 80's worth getting. At times it does sound a little dated. Probably the only thing that makes this record awkward.
The thing I like about this album is that it's good 'ol raunchy Stones. A very dark album, too. Sex and violence just pours out of it. Looking back I probably shouldn't have had this when I was a pre-teen. LOL
Good production. Catchy tunes. Sounds good cranked at home or in the car. I will say that this probably shouldn't be the first Stones album you listen to. Dig through your parents records and see if they have any early 70's Stones. "Sticky Fingers" is a good place to start. Work you way up to this album.
Why?.......2006-05-19
The title track is good, the follow up, She Was Hot, works well enough despite the title sounding far too much like a flip-side to She's So Cold. Tie You Up has some nifty stinging licks and some raunchy lyrics, but then the album goes quickly down hill. Keith's requisite number, Wanna Hold You, as well as Too Much Blood, with the really out of place and forced macabre rap, and Pretty Beat Up (does this song go anywhere?) sound like outtakes from their respective solo efforts, so you wonder how in the world they ended up as actual inclusions on a genuine Stones album. Feel On is the reggae inclusion and not a very good one, and the last three songs, Too Tough, All The Way Down, and It Must Be Hell, finally get back to Stones riff and roll, but it is too little too late.
I remember when this first came out, it had some stickers inside the album sleeve that you could affix to the album. When you start pulling out tricks that Kiss usually stoops to, you know something is wrong. Of the many albums this group has available, either start with England's Newest Hitmakers and move forward or move backward from A Bigger Bang. By the time you hit this black hole of Stones music, you'll know why this one simply falls way short of their best.

RATT's most underrated album.......2007-06-29
"Dancing Undercover" is probably RATT's most underrated album, and I would rank it my second favorite of theirs right after the classic debut "Out of the Cellar." This isn't mold-breaking profound stuff here, but it is good, solid 80s rock. There isn't a lot of filler or obligatory generic power ballads on "Dancing Undercover;" in fact, there are no ballads at all. This album is ten songs worth of dated but totally fun, infectious pop-metal that fans of the genre will love.
"Dancing Undercover" has the advantage of not having any of its singles played to death on 80s comps or "retro-lunch" radio programs, so for those that love 80s melodic hard-rock, listening to this album will be a fresh and rewarding experience.
a good example of 80's hard rock.......2007-01-26

Why come out of the cellar just to hide undercover?.......2006-08-30
But it ain't all bad. Solid riffing and vox that aren't great but at least suit the music and the whole album riding a hard rock, down and dirty groove are three things that it has going for it. Lyrically this is party hard rock with no excuses for wanting to have a good time all the time. With more luck this band could of taken off - I mean this is a better album than Motley Crues Theatre of Pain and on a par with most of Girls Girls Girls. Rather amusingly the band actually had a song on the soundtrack to the weird Eddie Murphy movie The Golden Child - Body Talk.
Beau Hills production fits the music here, not totally clean and teflon coated but actually suited to the bands Ratt 'n' roll sound and the overall feel is that the band by this stage were seasons professionals doing a job. Yet that is also part of the problem. The hard work didn't pay off and even by this stage Ratt were consigned to also-ran status unalbe to come up with the killer tune to breat the big time or generate the excitement the Crue did even when their music sucked.
80's fans should pick up this and Reach for the Sky as they are the two best and most accessible tunes of the genuine Ratt years (ie ignoring reunions etc) and they ain't half bad slabs or party rawk rock.
Ratt n' Roll will never die!!.......2006-02-25

Product Description
Traditional Chinese instruments meet Hip-Hop & Jazz. An experiment in cross-cultural soundscapes, The Shanghai Restoration Project draws its creative inspiration from the old 1930s Shanghai jazz bands, an early combination of East and West that's become an international legend. The Project revives this exotic blend by introducing Eastern instruments and rhythms to the Western sounds of hip-hop, jazz, and pop. The Shanghai Restoration Project debuted as MSN Music's "New Artist of the Week" in early 2006 and became the #1 selling electronic album on the site during the month of January. Since then, it has appeared in iTunes' Top 20 Electronic Albums in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, Europe, and Japan. To date, tracks from the project have been featured in various advertisements, television shows, and promotions. In November 2006, the project was featured as the "Single of the Week" in iTunes Japan. In early 2007, the introductory track was selected as the theme song for a worldwide advertisement campaign for Kenzo Parfums.Customer Reviews:

As could be ascertained from songs like "Play That Funky Music (White Boy)" and "Undercova Funk," the keyword for the nugget-filled Undercover Brother soundtrack is funk. In other words, prominently twanging bass lines, swinging saxophones and horns, and syncopated gymnastics abound on this instant party mix. Whether political (James Brown, Gil Scott-Heron), empowering women (Kool & the Gang, Cheryl Lynn), or championing good old-fashioned love (the O' Jays), the choice cuts included are timeless and (mostly) not too overplayed. Only when the album tries to modernize these classics does it lose its freshness. Snoop Dogg's version of "Undercova Funk" is successful thanks to guests like Bootsy Collins, but Lil' J's 2002 version of "I Need Luv" drags aimlessly for over six minutes, and the "Theme from Undercover Brother" is a pale cool-cat imitator. Nevertheless, the album is undoubtedly a perfect funk compilation for any occasion--just add grooviness and stir. --Annie ZaleskiCustomer Reviews:

This is a classic disco album that's unfortunately butchered on this cd.......2005-10-18
When the first note of "Undercover Lover" began, I immediately thought that perhaps I had not listened carefully. How could it be that part of the first note could be cut off? So I hit the "back up" button on my cd player remote and discovered that, in fact, the first note is slightly truncated.
I was listening with a friend who doesn't even know the title track of this album that well, though he did recently buy the original 45 rpm single after I played him my copy of the 12" single. We both quickly noticed that the tape (or turntable, since I'm not actually convinced that this cd came from a master tape) used to source the cd was running fast.
Only 30 seconds into playing this cd and I was already lamenting having purchased. I continued playing the title track and was unimpressed with the sound quality. If this was taken from a master tape, the EQ choices used in the remastering were poor. This cd sounds much more "thin" than the original vinyl and, though I didn't think it possible, sounds worse than the title track does on an early Unidisc label compilation I have that is notorious for marginal sound quality. I would not be surprised to learn that this cd was sourced from vinyl and processed using consumer level computer tools to attempt to mask the noise from the vinyl playback. (This would also explain the truncation of the first note.) Even if this cd is vinyl sourced, the quality of the cartridge used and/or the EQ choices were poor since good vinyl playback is much, much better than what's delivered here.
The kicker for me was that when the title track was ending, I got the feeling that it was faded early. I'll have to check it out again later to be certain, but the fade certainly didn't match my memory.
If you're interested in this cd, you probably already have the vinyl lp. If you do already have the vinyl lp, don't bother with this cd. Perhaps someday Universal Music (which now presumably controls this material having acquired the MCA catalog) will give this a proper cd release. For now, however, the original album is the way to go.
