5 out of 5 stars And I thought it was just me...........2006-12-04

I first stumbled on to this "album" way, way back in 1979, when I heard a local music store guy whose taste I really respected cranking it out. I knew Mott the Hoople a bit, but I was still pretty young at the time and could hardly call myself an expert.

Anyway, I loved what I heard and immediately bought it....and wow! It blew me away! It blew my friends away! It even appealed to men and women equally, which was quite rare for a lot of the rock that was out those days. I can remember clearly putting it on at parties and having everyone turn around and say, "Wow, who is that?"

Like so much of the music from that time, this one got away from me for awhile. I did manage to stumble across a reissued CD version about 14 years ago--thank you, Razor & Tie--and it was a real find. My album had long disappeared, and it wasn't just popular enough for me to think that I'd ever manage to get a CD version. But they did issue one, and the moment I saw it, there was no question as to whether or not I was buying it. And taking it home again that day in 1992, reliving that whole love affair once more, was a real joy.

Not long ago, I pulled out that same CD. Like other reviewers here, I wondered as well if it would stand the test of time.

It did, and more. The first two tracks, "Just Another Night" and "Wild East," kicks as hard as they ever have, with that classic Hunter piano swagger and the late Mick Ronson's tasty guitar fills rounding the first track out wonderfully. "Cleveland Rocks" still rocks, and "Standing In My Light"--my personal fave on this album--is as hauntingly beautiful as ever.

This is an exceptional CD, truly. To me, "Ships" is the only mediocre track, and even that one ain't half bad. Everything else is pure dynamite.

It's nice to see some things can stand the test of time. It's also nice to know there are others out there who appreciate this as much as I do. I hope in another 25 years or so, we will all still have the same enthusiasm for it. (I'm betting we will!!)

5 out of 5 stars The magic is still there.......2006-11-04

Having owned the vinyl in 1979, I approached this purchase with some trepidation - sometimes distant memories are best left that way.
However, I needn't have worried. this album is as good as it ever was. 25+ years has not diminished the quality of this recording.

Great vocals by Ian Hunter backed by the stunning guitar of Mick Ronson make for memorable listening. "Bastard" was, and still is my favourite, followed closely by "Life after Death".

If you are a fan, this remains a "must have".

4 out of 5 stars And It's Just Another Niiiiight.......2006-03-09

Schizophrenic will always be remembered for "Cleveland Rocks" being the theme to the Drew Carey Show, but when I bought this vinyl records back in 1979 I couldn't get enough of it. I was just a sophmore in college at the time and had owned "All The Young Dudes" for years. Mott The Hoople was big in NJ where I grew up and I even bought the out of print "Shouting and Pointing" record after Ian left the band (surprisingly good for those of you that never gave it a chance). When this record came out my world was rocked upon impact with "Just Another Night" bleeding into "Wild East" (a real sleeper on this record) which fades into "Cleveland Rocks." That was an awful strong intro to the record in my book. "When The Daylight Comes" is still a great song, albeit on the the softer side (it probably received the most air play prior to the Drew Carey show), and "Bastard" was decent, but the record sputtered a little bit after those five or I would have rated it higher. When Ian rocks he's one of my favorites. When he starts in with the ballads I lose interest rather quickly. I just bought the reissued CD, which took forever to materialize as vinyl to CD transfers go, but I just love "Just Another Night" to this day. I was instantly transported to a 19 year old playing his $8.98 new Chrysalis LP on his Technics turntable. Talk about time capsule nostalgia huh? Let the record reflect that I also bought the new She Wants Revenge the day it came out lest you think I'm stuck in some kind of time warp. Rock on.

5 out of 5 stars thumbs up!.......2005-12-27

I admitt I'm an Ian Hunter uberfan. But this goes back years. When Dudes hit and the record store was out of the LP, I got all the previous Mott LP's to see where they're coming from. All in all, it was Ian that was the glue musically. His writing continued to improve LP to LP, both musically and lyrically.
On this LP, he hit his commercial pinnacle. He was working on all 8 cyl. Sure Cleveland Rocks is the signiture song, but the rest of the LP is great. Don't forget that Cleve Rocks was originally England Rocks---his take on the growing punk movement in the UK (it's an oldie).
Production wise--it's pretty glossy---it's not as loud/rough/sloppy, as earlier efforts. Mick shines.......Bless his soul.
Great ballads and rockers---what more could a fan want?
Definite--BUY and you'll like it

5 out of 5 stars Vinyl memories of Never Alone.......2005-07-14

I bought the vinyl album when it first was released. Just Another Night was all over the radio and I just had to have it. Since then, I purchased the CD (again when it was first released). I can tell you that after years of wearing the vinyl out and now playing the CD regularly, there is not a weak moment on this album. Not one course, bridge or single note. When I think of my high school years, immediately this album comes to mind. I love the way most of the songs run right into one another. No silence, leaving no time to even catch your breath. Best songs: Just Another Night, Ships, Bastard, When The Daylight Comes, Wild East and Life After Death. Just buy this and trust me. There is a hint of English new wave/punk mixed with straight ahead classic rock and roll.

NSYNC's underage fans are going to get a shock when they pick up JC Chasez's first solo album. Either that or they're in for an accelerated sex education class. With the release of Schizophrenic, this erstwhile boy-band member has shown that he had a few impure thoughts during his band's squeaky-clean five-year run. If Justin Timberlake was the cute member of the outfit, Chasez was the hot-blooded one, and he's not afraid to show just how steamy by extolling his prowess, his proclivities, and even the geographic locations in his home where he has made love on this CD. From the athletic "All Day Long I Dream About Sex" to the feverish homo-erotic "Some Girls (Dance With Women)" he whips himself into a entertaining froth, but he doesn't really cross the lines of good taste until "Come To Me." Despite his dirty mind, Chasez has proven to be an adventurous auteur, taking his music to places where NSNYC would never venture, serving up the dangerous swampy gumbo ya ya of "Shake It," dance hall reggae with a song like "Mercy," or a more sanitized version with "Everything You Want." But he's at his absolute best when he evokes the sweaty specter of eighties dance pop on "100 Ways" treading in the same stiletto boots that the Purple One did two decades before. --Jaan Uhelszki

5 out of 5 stars If you're expecting the JC you know..........2007-03-03

DON'T. This album is fun, sexy, sexual, upbeat/high-tempo. And the JC that you knew from N Sync is hard to be found. I think I've heard him on 2 songs...But gods and goddesses do I love this album!

Parents: This album is NOT for children or young teens. take the listing of songs above, look up the lyrics online, and you'll see why (don't simply go by the review which I found ridiculous, and you know what you find acceptable for your kids).

5 out of 5 stars A Fun CD .......2007-02-14

JC Chasez, I think is the most tallented singer from NSYNC. I got this CD when it came out and I still play it, infact I am playing it right now! With this album it is hard to listen to one song, yyou have to hear the hole thing. I can't wait until his next album and I will be the first one to go and pick it up. He is an amazing singer and a great songwritter. It is a shame that this album didn't do well because it is ten times better than Justin's two albums put together. So if you want a great singer and great musc I would advise you to go and pick this up.

5 out of 5 stars Satisfied.......2007-01-12

Received in a timely manner. Very satisfied. Wish he had more music available. Will purchase from Amazon again.

4 out of 5 stars late buyer...and this album backs up its name =).......2006-12-14

I only just recently purchased Schizophrenic, and its already getting more play than Justin Timberlake's FutureSex/LoveSounds. Don't get me wrong, I love both albums just the same. It seems like J.C. was ahead of his time when he released Schizophrenic two years ago. Okay we all know about the strong sexual content in the lyrics of some of the songs on Schizophrenic, but don't let it deter you from buying the album. The beats of each songs alone are worth listening to.

My favorite tracks are: Some Girls (Dance With Women), She Got Me, 100 Ways, Shake It, All Day Long I Dream About Sex, Come To Me, Blowin' Me Up (With Her Love)..although the slower songs are worth listening to; I'm more partial to the middle/high-tempo songs.

If you have FutureSex/LoveSounds and not this album, I strongly recommend that you go and get this one!

5 out of 5 stars SO MUCH BETTER THAN JUSTIFIED .......2006-08-15

This album should have sold so much better. It is the fault of the record company that put too much focus on the Michael Jackson wannabe Justin. Ok so this review isn't for bashing so I will get to the point.

This album is wonderful! I loved it. Every track is great and so different that the name is appropriately titled.

It doesn't copy anyone and is very creative.

I highly reccommend this to anyone but be warned that it does contain very mature subjects.

5 out of 5 stars calling out to a mystery.......2003-05-12

When CHINA first came out I was hooked!Fantastic song!I was a young kid then, never had any money,so I bought the 45.I played it like crazy and read about them in Cream magazine. They said they started as a punk band and the angry "b"side of the 45 VOICE OF AMERICA attested to that ethic.Well, many years later I'm an adult and can afford albums(CDs,in this case)and was delighted when I saw this sitting there. This CD has both their big label LPs,and are both excellent new wave pop rock that will have you humming.Someday I hope to hear their punk records.A great band!

5 out of 5 stars Must Have for New Wave Fans.......2003-03-13

As someone lucky enough to be old enough to remember seeing these guys live in the 80's, I can vouch for this CD's quality. Unfortunately, their only hit was China, minor as it was, but every track is a nugget to be cherished. In New Orleans, even the "new rock" stations occasionally dust this one off... And by all means, keep NEW WAVE alive!

5 out of 5 stars RED ROCKERS WILL ALWAYS REMIND ME OF THE 80'S.......2002-12-12

The Red Rockers music was simple and hit to the heart. Not trying to be the "hair bands" of the era, Their sound was unique and refreshing. The lyrics of their own songs may seem depressing but mark the time they were written and are always memorable. The cover songs they did are incredible and in my opinion much better than the originals

    4 out of 5 stars Some Great 80's Rock.......2000-10-10

This CD compiles both of the group's mid-80s releases in their entirety. Aside from "China," which was a minor hit on some hipper radio stations of the period, Red Rockers were largely and unjustly ingnored by radio and left undiscovered by the general public. The first CD, "Good As Gold," features sparely produced power-pop with ringing guitars and briskly rhythmic tempos. Their second, "Schizophrenic Circus," is an entirely different beast altogether, going more for big anthemic rockers with a titanic drum sound...somewhat reminiscent of Big Country or a less-pretentious U2 of the same period.

Both CDs are equally enjoyable in their own right, each with their share of standout tracks. Good As Gold has the aforementioned "China," while Schizophrenic Circus boasts "Just Like You" and "Blood From A Stone." But there's really not a clinker on either CD...both are solid and hold up nicely to repeated listenings. The songs sound undated and truly timeless.

Worth discovering (or re-discovering) if you enjoy first-rate rock with a thinking-man's twist.
