Where would the '80s have been without the Pet Shop Boys? Discography makes a compelling case for the notion of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe as pioneers, if not geniuses. Mixing the cold feel of Euro-techno beats with the Boys' quest for something warm between the sheets, "What Have I Done to Deserve This" and "Suburbia" sound almost soulful. Although they seemed to be suffering from a terminal case of boredom, they managed to alchemize their ennui into touching sentimentality in "Love Comes Quickly," "Rent," and, especially, the AIDS-oriented "Being Boring." Discography begins with the Pet Shop Boys' beginning, "West End Girls," traveling past "Domino Dancing" and including their covers "Always on My Mind," and the medley "Where the Streets Have No Name (I Can't Take My Eyes Off of You.)" --Steve GdulaCustomer Reviews:
A blast from start to finish.......2007-02-13
A song like 'Being Boring' is just plain amazing. But there's lots and lots more. If you love anything about 80s pop music then you will not be wasting one penny on this stellar collection. It's the first 18 singles the band released. Even today I'm in awe of the consistency of this band.

Fugazi fans already know that this is the original gospel according to Ian MacKaye. This Washington, D.C., quartet hit harder, faster, and franker than just about anybody--and were willing to see through their own bull as quickly as anyone else's. MacKaye manages to be charismatic and confrontational at the same time: tossing brilliant, genuinely funny asides into his serious-as-a- heart-attack lyrics. Meanwhile, the band, led by Lyle Preslar's staggering guitar attack, pushes MacKaye on with the tightest, most razor-sharp sound in all of hardcore. Nothing in the punk pantheon can come close to "In My Eyes," "Out of Step," or "Salad Days." Absolutely essential. --Michael RubyCustomer Reviews:
Depends on how you look at it..........2007-05-12
It's interesting to see some reviewers essentially asking the more die-hard or hardcore followers of this way of thinking to relent: and Im sure there have been a fair-share of people with a boorish exposition of Straight Edge and the "message" expressed in this music, who have tired you with their 'preaching'. Young people often take themselves and their principles too seriously, and go to extremes in the name of something they believe in: now its time for YOU to get over that fact, as an observer. We can mellow in our late 20s and 30s, its inevitable anyway, but the music which Ian made was as serious as life is, and I find his stance more admirable than the wishy-washy coolness of whatever bands you care to name. This album is for me pure distilled brilliance, but of course it speaks to some more than others.
Punk, Hardcore, Whatever, at Its Finest........2007-04-13
One of the greats.......2007-04-12
This is quintessential DC hardcore, and of course the first "straight-edge" band. Whether or not you agree with their philosophy, the music that emerged from it is tight, smart, sometimes funny, and frequently ironic. There are times when the tunes seem almost electrically charged - and like an electric shock, they're short and to the point. Whether with "In My Eyes" (one of the hardcore classics) or the searing "I'm Seeing Red," these guys aren't mouthing words.
This is DC hardcore at its purest. It's one of those essential records that time can't seem to touch.

My Fav. Hardcore group.......2006-10-27
awesome.......2006-08-10
Buy it only if you don't have their CDs already.......2005-08-09
However, if you already own the "Bringin It Down" CD and "The Storm," there's no need to get this. As far as I know, the recording isn't remastered, the unreleased song "Holding On" is already available on the Rev Rarities CD, and the main selling point, the inclusion of the "Chung King Can Suck It" LP (the original recording of "Bringin' It Down"), isn't worth it. The Chung King material may be good to listen to once, but isn't something I would find myself playing repeatedly. Actually, the biggest surprise is the sound quality of the Chung King LP. Despite the group's well-documented dissatisfaction with it, if you listen to contemporaneous hardcore albums like Bold's "Speak Out" or Misfits' "Earth AD" for comparison purposes, the sound really isn't that bad.
Finally, the layout leaves something to be desired. It's full of photos and has decent liner notes, but could have included more photos and art from the original releases, and the CD itself looks pretty bad: just a picture of a speaker or something with double-exposure of an image of an X-ed up hand on part of it ... something like that. I know the design won't matter to everyone, but if you're going to do a discography, memories and, subsequently, photos and images, become more important. Rev should've followed the example of similar CDs, such as Turning Point's discography, or Mad Parade's "Reissues" CD as far as including artwork from the past releases.
Overall, this is a great package, and it's nice to have everything in one place, but if you already have most of this, it's far from essential, and you should spend your money elsewhere.
You need this CD!.......2005-07-18
Nice little biography of the band also included along with some pointless pictures (well you have to complain about something)
Anyone who likes Sick of it All, Madball, Suicidal Tendencies (first 3 albums) or any late 80s hardcore needs to buy this CD.
A classic.

Customer Reviews:
It is great, unique music.......2004-12-24
They did a coupla songs that shoulda been radio hits, 'Punk Rock Nation' and another one. The boys are from Holland and, as far as I know, only toured the U.S. once, in 1997. Fortunately, I got to see them, twice, in the same night, which, they told us, was like the 25th show they did in 25 days. Real sweethearts, no question. They've been punking for decades now. I'm not sure if they're still around. If I'm not mistaken they finally broke up after about 2 amazing demo tapes, 3 7"s and 8 albums (just an estimate). My guess is they toured a bunch in the general Europe area. I wonder if they ever were able to pay their bills selling some records and CDs and touring? Course, that's the same question one can ask of any band that hasn't had a radio hit and is, essentially, a punk band. Most punx have day jobs.
I'll bet they still have some kinda day jobs (and/or very cooperative, supportive wives/girlfriends/partners). I really recommend you give their songs a listen cuz you've never heard a band that sounds like them. Interestingly, they've maintained their unique sound, that is, even as it morphs over the, what? 20 years? Any of their songs can immediately be recognized as FUNERAL ORATION.
Really, if yer into HC all yer really gonna wanna hear is the first 2 demos and some of those songs are on this, although the Communion 12" is great punk rock too, just not quite as intense as the 2 demos. I've been meticiously collecting their various releases for about 20 years and am glad this release is now available. They did appear on a bunch of compilations, always a good way for punx to get their music heard around the world. The more comps, the better. They've managed to keep me intereted and enjoying their music even though each album is progressively more tame. I suppose I gotta admit that my favorite material is the earliest and as it slowly becomes less harsh, not that they ever were actually, I find the albums to be a bit less to my liking compared to the early material but still enjoyable. That demo stuff is brilliant. And, yes, live they are delightful, tight, strong, good presence and fun to hear. I can't figure out how come they've apparently never gotten more awareness out there. What that teaches me is that just cuz you create something of quality doesn't mean it'll automatically get known. Oh well, good news is, this exists. Heck, the demos tapes exist to, released by the band I'm sure, as the sleeves are non-commercially printed up (the common punk way: xerox!). Ya did Holland proud boys. chrisbct@hotmail.com

Maryland guitarist Ken Navarro and his independent label, Positive Music, have shouldered their way in among the Larry Carltons and GRPs of the world to become major players in the pop-instrumental field. Not only have Navarro's own albums consistently landed in the top 10 of the "adult alternative" and "new adult contemporary" charts, but so have those of his labelmates Gregg Karukas and Bobby Militello. Navarro's sixth solo album, "Brighter Days," is a further refinement of his label's successful formula: bright, easily digestible pop melodies played cleanly and precisely over steady, comfortable rhythms. This recording features the presence of Positive Music's saxophonist Brandon Fields, who adds a slightly different spin to Navarro's melodies in easy-going, Najee-like lines. Navarro himself plays nylon-string guitar on 6 of the 10 cuts, lending a delicate, Earl Klugh-like feel to the proceedings. --Geoffrey Himes

Album Description
Simply put, the Maximillian Colby retrospective discography is a document of not only a (sadly) relatively obscure band, but also a snapshot of a mid-'90s sound still aped by fall-on- the-floor-wailing revivalists today.Maximillian Colby fashioned seminal works on their own terms. Neither purely aggressive nor depressingly somber, Maximillian Colby's music creates soundscapes that can rupture the eardrums and soon after lull the mind. As a band, they melded crisp whispers with clamor drenched in feedback to dizzying, cathartic effect.
With songs that run such a gamut of genres, Maximillian Colby never let their music lapse lazily into incoherence. Rather, the sounds they created are a lesson in methodical precision and totality. For example, how many other bands can succeed in writing an engaging, eight-minute song whose two primary tones are within a half-step of each other? Maximillian Colby were all too happy to wring the utmost out of something as deceptively innocuous as a pair of notes, exploring their many inherently possible rhythms, dynamics, and effects.
This all-encompassing exploration of the different, nuanced qualities of each song reflects Maximillian Colby's playful, deft approach to their art. Songs will build and build, only to have the climax moments or even half a song later. What seems like relentless adolescent pummeling is in fact incredibly intentional and calculated. This charismatic musical approach ensures that Maximillian Colby's music remains as captivating, animated, and vital as it was a decade ago.
