If Natasha Bedingfield's first two singles, feisty R&B anthem "Single" and chart-topper "These Words", suggested she's more than just Daniel's little sister, her debut album, Unwritten, is the confirmation. Better still, it proves she's a genuine pop star in the making with a staggering tally of potential hits. Aided and abetted by some of music's biggest hit makers, including Robbie Williams's former writing partner Guy Chambers, she reveals the true size of her ambition and potential, squaring up to every female chart icon going. The party hard electro-rock of "I'm A Bomb", the irrepressible optimism of the title track's chorus and "Drop Me In The Middle"'s slinky R&B strut, respectively have her taking on Pink, Nelly Furtado and Beyoncé and showing that she's a worthy contender. Add the slamming Gwen Stefani attitude of "If You're Gonna" with its boybaiting hook of "I'm looking for a guard dog not buying a Chihuahua" and the image of an independent, smart talking bombshell who's no one's pushover is complete. And Unwritten is her flawless statement of intent. --Dan Gennoe

Product Description
UK edition of her debut album features 12-tracks, including a bonus UK/US only track, 'Size Matters' along with a hidden 13th track, 'Sojourn'. This UK/International pressing also features two tracks that were dropped from the 2005 US version, 'I'm a Bomb' and 'Frogs and Princess'. In addition the import pressing features the two original versions of 'These Words' and 'Unwritten' which were remixed for the US version and thus exclusive to this pressing. The import version also features different artwork.22-year-old Natasha Bedingfield (younger sister of Daniel Bedingfield) has a voice to melt radios & a decade long passion for writing & singing. Her debut album Unwritten draws on a range of experiences & passions personal to her - from battling through the dating game ('Frogs & Princes'), & dealing with the trust issues of falling in love ('I Bruise Easily') to learning how to carpe diem ('If You're Gonna Jump') & develop the confidence to take life & own it ('Unwritten'). Told from the viewpoint of a young woman with her head firmly screwed on, Unwritten is fuelled by lyrical sass & real-life suss throughout. Musically the album is inspired by a wide range of influences & styles, from the glam rock of 'Silent Movie' through the muscular funk of 'Single' to the orchestral majesty of 'Wild Horses'. The result is an album packed with winning songs & no irrelevant fillers. BMG. 2004..

In the United Kingdom, New Zealand-born Natasha Bedingfield and brother Daniel Bedingfield have seemingly taken up permanent residence at the top of the pop charts. He's an earnest rocker with a dance music bent. She's an altogether more exciting prospect--a singer-songwriter who refuses to sit still, charging through decadent R&B ("Single"), jittery electro-pop ("I'm A Bomb") and first-class balladry ("I Bruise Easily"), invoking the likes of Beyonce and Gwen Stefani. And, okay, sometimes Nelly Furtado. An all-star production team, including former Robbie Williams collaborator Guy Chambers, makes for a debut that sounds like an instant greatest-hits set--just add cheekbones. --Aidin Vaziri

5 out of 5 stars Natasha Rocks.......2007-05-09

I love Natasha Bedingfield. I got her CD from my sister. I love all the songs, my faves (hard to pick!) are These Words, Unwritten, Size Matters, I bruise easily and Wild Horses. I have her DVD, I recommend it to all 'Tasha fans. She is a fantastic signer. She knows what kind of music to do, she has a variety, love songs, dance, slow, all kinds!

4 out of 5 stars WOW!.......2007-04-24

What's truly amazing about the young talent of today is how grounded and committed they are to their sound. Although this is not a deep or penetrating compilation of music (and who says it has to be deep to be good anyway?), the songs work well together as an entire package. And if you listen carefully "Unwritten," has range too. If you want something to listen to as you go about your daily weekend chores this CD won't disappoint. It's upbeat, clean and whole lotta fun.

5 out of 5 stars Great upbeat set of tracks for Everyday Life..........2007-03-27

This album never fails to perk me up during a bad day. Her voice is beautiful, her lyrics are at once uplifting and incredibly soulful, and overall the entire album is like a spot of sunshine.

And above all the rest, her song "Single" *always* puts a smile on my face, and reminds me to be proud of exactly who I am and where I am in life...

Absolutely fantastic. ^.^

5 out of 5 stars Words that flow like silk.......2006-11-29

Natasha is like listening to a dream. Her voice can make you smile and feel good. She has an energy that is unlike many artists that are popular now. Natasha uses that energy to power her music to levels that are sensational and memorable. I am sure most of you have heard at least one of her songs. I am also sure that if you have heard that song you have probably remembered some of the simple yet deep verses. Just thinking of some of her lyrics makes me smile on one of those dark days. I hope that she continues to bring excellent music like this to the public. We deserve more quality musicians like Natasha.

4 out of 5 stars Deserves to be heard.......2006-11-07

Since I hadn't heard much from the radio I'd liked for over a year I found it hard to give into the utter likability of Natasha Bedingfield. Her brother's two hit songs that made it onto radio across the globe did little to make me eager to hear his sister's take on pop music--until my sister started blaring "Unwritten" nonstop after I came home from college this last summer for break. The melody grabs hold instantly to the listener and I myself started noticing I'd be humming the chorus throughout the day. Natasha's singing is quite impressive for a pop star--unlike the infamous pop superstar Britney Spears (hey, I'll credit that Spears did have some good vocal moments on record throughout her career and I am eager to hear new material) to which all female pop stars after are compared, Natasha sounds like an actual trained musician. Her deliciously throaty and smoky sound makes for quite an entertaining and pleasing listen--kind of like Joss but much less affected. The big gem here is the perfect "Unwritten" (evident by how huge the single has become internationally, even breaking into the hard-to-get-in market here in the US) but "Single" is pure girls-rock in 4 minutes, "Stumble" is piano-tinged, "Peace of Me" is a rock song by a pop star and "These Words" is great Hip Hop-infused pop. "I Bruise Easily" and the closing "Wild Horses." Though not a perfect record, Unwritten is definitely an album worth hearing by all.

This 25-song soundtrack to Julian Temple's biopic of the late Joe Strummer is not as much a retrospective of the punk-rock kingpin as an 80-minute radio show with the ex-Clash leader spinning the dials on influential favorites, such as Tim Hardin's "Black Sheep Boy," Eddie Cochran's 1958 rocker "Nervous Breakdown," and Nina Simone's 1967 version of the Bee Gees' "To Love Somebody." Snippets of interviews and Strummer testimonials break up dead air between tracks, which include previously unreleased demos of Clash nuggets like "White Riot" and "I'm So Bored with the USA," as well as Strummer's toned-down solo work with the Mescaleros. But the real treasures lie in the rarely-heard-before: The Clash performing Strummer's "(In The) Pouring Rain" live in 1984, which never made an album; 1988's "Trash City" recorded with Strummer's Los Angeles combo the Latino Rockabilly War; and the 1975 UK-only single "Keys to Your Heart" from his pre-Clash band the 101ers. The latter's ska-and-punk tendencies, obvious influences on English bands like the Pretenders and the Beat, indicate an early direction for the Clash and the sway its leader would hold over the future of music. --Scott Holter

Album Description

The soundtrack to "The Future Is Unwritten," a documentary chronicling the life and times of Joe Strummer, frontman for the seminal UK band The Clash. The film premiered at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for a Grand Jury Award.

5 out of 5 stars A well done tribute.......2007-06-21

I think this is a great album! It is, of course, a soundtrack strictly speaking but it sounds more like a mix CD from a very cool friend with broad musical tastes. Yet it does all tie together because of who it's about. There are few compillations that cover so much territory and yet flow so evenly. I can't wait to see the film!

4 out of 5 stars Insightful and entertaining eollection.......2007-05-30

It's hard living off the scraps that may come our way now that the great man has gone and I'm sure there will be some pretty crass compilations in days to come! This however is skillfully put together and paints a picture of the man through the music he wrote and the music he loved. The opening studio take of just his voice singing White Riot sends a chill and as the full song commences memories flood back of sweaty Top Ranks and the band blasting away within touching distance of the audience.Following thisThere is a very unusual rendition of Rock the Casbah in Arabic however the most part is taken up by Joe playing songs from his radio show all of which are special. My particular favorite is the U Roy song. Many of you will have bought the 'Front Line' album back in 76 as it was sold at a promotional price of 69p the track that appears here is a version of the original and to my money superior, what a voice!!
I enjoy this album because it flows and it something to keep as an aid to remembering Joe Strummer, the songs are linked by passages of dialogue, a sprightly sounding Topper Headon is just great to hear at last, but most moving is Joe's passage about the ability and power of people to change things. His voice seems to crack with the emotion and intensity of what he is saying and I'm afraid to say I cried again!!

A few good songs. If you can download a song or two, go ahead. Would not recommend purchasing the entire cd.

2 out of 5 stars I wanted so badly to love this album..........2006-12-27

after seeing Miss Natasha perform "Unwritten" and "These Words" live at the Dick Clark "Rockin' New Years Eve" party (yes it's pre-taped). I'd only heard these two songs on the radio and didn't know much about her - but she was so cute and spunky I couldn't wait to run out and buy her cd. (Though the producer did say "oh good, she's in a good mood today.", which made me wonder, is she normally uber cranky? But I digress..)

I did like the song "Wild Horses" and the two aforementioned, but the rest of the cd was extremely disappointing - not a memorable track among them. I wanted to make "Single" my anthem - but could never end up getting into it.

Don't bother buying the cd - go to iTunes or something and just get those 3 tracks...

5 stars for Natasha Bedingfield, 1 for Sony

I was going to buy the CD. After all the warnings about the XCP software, I am considering just downloading the tracks, instead. If I could directly pay Ms. Bedingfield for her music, I would.

Ms. Bedingfield, please talk to your agent about this.

5 out of 5 stars An Unwritten Blend of Genres.......2006-07-16

This album infuses dance, R&B, pop & rock. It blends them incredibly well! Here it is track-by-track:

1. These Words: Natasha's US debut single & sophomore UK single. Reason I bought this & I'm not disappointed! Great R&B tune about expressing your love on paper & writing songs in general. I can relate since I myself am a budding thirteen-year-old songwriter. 10/10

2. Single: I own the DualDisc version of this album, so I get the treat of seeing the UK music video of the song, which I think is also the US one. Third US single & debut UK single. Natasha's self-proclaimed anthem for people without significant others. Infectious beat, top-notch vocals & great lyrics. The '06 mix, (which I downloaded, but is also on the 2006 re-issue of this record,) features a slight remix of beat as well as a newly recorded bridge with the added lyrics: "I'm single and I'm likin' it this way. I'm single and I'm solo and I'm happy," which add a catchy edge to the track. 10/10

3. Unwritten: Sophomore US single & third UK single. Excellent. Fabulous message in the lyrics & great beat. Love the gospel choir as well as the acoustic guitar loop. 10/10

4. Silent Movie: A rocky track with excellent vocals about asking her boyfriend to love her without any complaints or being egotistical. 10/10

5. Stumble: Letting some guy know that she knows he loves her & she loves him back. So pretty. 10/10

6. Peace of Me: Letting a guy know that he figured her out & she likes it & it actually recovers her from some depression. Very good instrumentation on this song. 9/10.

7. If You're Gonna: A rocky song letting guys know that they have to protect her & be a good man to be hers. Excellent song. 10/10

8. Drop Me in the Middle. This song features British female rapper Estelle which is cool because there's something to me about British accents that sounds so cool to me! Natasha explains on the DVD side of the DualDisc version of this album that it means to just put her anywhere and she guarantees the she alone will liven up the place. The sound is pretty cool too. 9/10.

9. We're All Mad: This track shows that we all have our bad days and it shows a reason for why we as a global population stand here today. While the lyrics send a great message this, to me, is the album's worst track. I just don't like the sound or the vocals on this song. 6.5/10.

10. I Bruise Easily: Fourth international single and rumored to be the same in America. This is a beautiful track about being very emotionally fragile and that the strong initial vibe given off was just to keep up appearances. Because of this, Natasha warns you to "be gentle when you handle her" meaning to watch what you do or say so that she doesn't go into a deep depression. 10/10.

11. The One That Got Away: An R&B/dance track with a message that conveys that Natasha is not prepared to let the man she loves slip right through her fingers. Really funky. 10/10

12. Size Matters: a bouncy dance/pop number with Natasha saying she believes size matters. *giggles* Oh, will you get your mind out of the gutter?! She means the size of a man's HEART. She does it in a really cool, funky way, too. 10/10

13 Wild Horses: A ballad about wanting to be free as her spirit desires. Very pretty although a bit dragged out. 9/10.

14. Sojourn (hidden track): A ballad, as its predecessor, but instead of using primarily piano, this track primarily uses acoustic guitar. Natasha envisions an energy that encourages her to go on with her life; a "sojourn from the north." Beautiful. 10/10

Average grade: 9/10

Album Description

Aussie edition of the US skate-punk's 2001 album (scheduled for domestic release in 2002). Much like their self-titled album from 1998, there's a huge variety of tracks here - each with its own addictive element. Unlike many punk bands these days, these guys know their instruments. It's not your typical Southern California skate-punk.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Never Gets Old.......2007-03-17

This CD is terrific - it has a great mix of music, wonderful lyrics (hearing 'Seeing Red' still tears me up at times), and hasn't left my vehicle since it was released (in other words, I still listen to it nearly every day :p ).

4 out of 5 stars Awesome CD.......2006-06-26

This album by Unwritten Law really won me over. The opening track 'Mean Girl' pulls you straight in. Scott uses many different techniques vocally to keep the audience interested. Some acoustic tracks and heavier tracks in there; depends on what kind of music you like.
1.Mean Girl - great hook and instrumental arrangement. Grinspoon like feel to it.

2.Up All Night - Cool rock feel to this song with a catchy chorus.

3.Sound Siren - More of a pop punk feel to it. My favourite track of the CD.

4.How You Feel - Lighter reggae type track. Keeps you interested with a slower, softer pace.

5.Blame It On Me - Gets you back into the heavier rock pace. Cool song.

6.Seein' Red - Cool song, slower paced again with a catchy chorus.

7.Nick and Phil - Answering machine message from Nick Enright and Phil Jamieson from Grinspoon.

8.Hellborn - Another heavier rock type track.

9.Geronimo - Great track on the CD, really keeps you interested in it. This songs a killer.

10.Rescue Me - Another rock track with a slight ska beat behind it. Cool vocal effects.

11.Actress, Model... - Another killer on the CD, quite pop punk again but keeps you very interested.

12.Raleigh, Pt.5 - Cool to listen to stoned, weird filler.

13.Babalon - Great rock feel to it, with chunky guitar sounds.

14.Raleigh, Pt.6 - Bizarre.

15.Rest Of My Life - Cool soft acoustic track.

16.Elva - Phil from Grinspoon helped to write this track. Great feel to it.

17.Evolution - Awesome way to end the CD, great finisher. After the track is over keep listening because at the end there is a hidden answering machine message from Tom DeLonge.

Great CD, 4 stars.

5 out of 5 stars Slow...Fast...Punk...Good.......2005-08-02

The first 2 tracks on this CD ["Mean Girl" & Up All Night] pretty much say it all about this Unwritten Law disc. "Mean girl" starts out slow then evolves into a fast hardcore punk sounding song--it's great. Then, up all night does almost the reverse of "Mean Girl" by starting fast and slowing down--its fantastic.
Alongside the 'hits' like "Seein' Red" and the acoustic "Rest of My Life" this CD is a must for fans of punk [i think that's what you'd classify this under]. They sort of remind me of BRAND NEW but a little more heavier with the guitars at times.
Just good listening.

5 out of 5 stars Best of their albums........2004-10-13

An amazing record! No kidding one of the best discs I've heard in a while. Kinda of a cross between Non Point and Weezer, with a new sound at's it's core. 5 stars for sure! But avoid "Here to the mourning"...

5 out of 5 stars "saY yoU won'T leavE foR thE resT oF mY lifE"~.......2004-08-05

Unwitten Law is a lot different than a most bands out there. They have there own style and different types of songs that fit every mood you could posibly be in. Some are slow and acoustic and have a soft sound to them (Rest of My Life, Elva). Some songs are really fast and upbeat (Up All Night, Blame it On Me, Hellborn). Also some songs are just the right pace (Seein' Red, How You Feel, Rescue Me). But whatever music your feeling at the moment, there is something on this CD. I like pretty much every song on this album but my top 5 hav to be..

1. Rest of My Life
2. Elva

3 out of 5 stars What's the purpose of a re-recording?.......2007-01-24

The majority of these songs sound very similar to the originals or have been produced in a manner so that they do not sound as good as the originals. Although the sound quality has improved on this CD for their older work, the songs lack the impact and originality of the originals. I just don't particularly like the production of this new album although I still love the songs. I definitely recommend purchasing select songs (the new ones) instead of the entire album.

2 out of 5 stars SUCH a bad idea.......2007-01-04

I'm going to try to keep this short, there's not much to really say about this CD. Unwritten Law has been on approximately 500 million labels through the years. Thus a true "greatest hits" is nearly impossible. So what we're left with is new recordings of songs that are almost 15 years old in some cases. I have heard CPK many, many times in my life, I've seen them perform it live many, many times in my life, but even Scott Russo, completely drunk on stage, is still better than this version. All of these new versions have lost their edge (seriously, what is with the "ooh oohs" in CPK?). Maybe I'm just old, and seeing these kinds of CDs makes me remember how much I once enjoyed a band, but at the same time, makes me remember why I gave up on their music in the first place. Enjoy the CD, but please listen to the originals to see how they were meant to be.

5 out of 5 stars Worth the wait.......2007-01-03

Well, I've been waiting for this one since October when it was supposed to come out. It was worth the wait. Greatest Hits all redone. Some of the songs I like better than the originals ie Teenage Suicide, some of them sound about the same ie Up All Night and some of them need time to grow ie Shallow. None of them are bad. The 2 new tracks simply rock. Check this CD out, you won't be disappointed.

After the stripped-down acoustic pop of 2003's Music in High Places, Unwritten Law's back to rock, adding stadium-metal theatrics and bigger-than-big production to their sunny pop-punk on Here's to the Mourning. Unfortunately, this is not really a good thing. Here is modern rock that sounds like it was written by an-out-of touch boardroom trying to reach target demographics--not, you know, a band. "Because Of You," the only song with a title more than one or two words long, is sonically a sweet take on the classic SoCal skatepunk sound. But it's so daft lyrically ("My satisfaction lies in your hands girl"?) and musically (you've heard commercials for cleaning products that rock harder and are more complex), it sounds like a boy band trying to be "hard." A few tunes add acoustic guitars and electronic elements to the rawk; these attempts just make this late `90s nostalgia sound even more tired and old. Newcomers are encouraged to start with either Places or their debut, Blue Room. --Mike McGonigal

Album Description

Unwritten Law, one of the finest bands to emerge from the late 90's SoCal rock scene are back with an incredibly solid, new studio effort entitled Here's To the Mourning. Taking a page from Rock n'Roll 101, Unwritten Law's frontman Scott Russo is consistently one of the most unpredictable and volatile singers on the scene today.

1 out of 5 stars ouch.......2006-02-25

mediocore, radio friendly pop rock songs. save your money UL, you won't have any in a couple years. this is one of the worst, most boring cds i have ever heard for punk, rock, or just pop.

5 out of 5 stars Good Follow-Up To Elva.......2006-02-22

Bought this a long time ago and I still love it. Similar to Elva musically, with the band showing their ability to produce yet another great album with back-to-back great songs one after the next. Best Songs = She Says, Save Me, Walrus

5 out of 5 stars not punk-pop, radio-friendly hard rock, metal, grunge pop.......2005-12-02

I bought this album after hearing Armageddon Singalong on the Short Music for Short People compilation album, as I was hoping to hear some more witty, cool pop-punk. On that level, I was totally disappointed. There is nothing witty or punkish about this album in my opinion. At a couple of points it reminded me of Boxcar Racer in its sound, which was the only tenuous connection I could find to punk-pop. After hearing Here's to the Mourning, I was very surprised to read on the official Unwritten Law website that 'Unwritten Law inhabits the upper echelon of successful punk bands, bands whose substance and longevity overshadow the countless hordes of imitation, fly-by-night pop-punk operations riding a one-way train to anonymity.' It is staggering to think that a band can put out an album like Here's to the Mourning, and think they are a punk band. Even if you ascribe to the view that punk is an attitude, not a style of music, I would be amazed if someone could coherently argue that there is any punk attitude on this album. In my opinion, Simple Plan are way more punk in music and attitude than the music or lyrics on Here's to the Mourning, and I thought Simple Plan was as far as you can go in terms of playing pop rock and still call yourself punk. Here's to the Mourning is not punk in any shape or form, except in the imagination of the band. Here's to the Mourning is, however, an excellent album of polished, radio-friendly hard rock album with metal, grunge and pop elements.

I don't know why Unwritten Law doesn't just call themselves a hard rock band. I guess it's not as marketable at the moment, and who ever does the marketing strategy for their website is maybe trying to tap into the Simple Plan, Yellowcard, Good Charlotte demographic. If putting a picture in the in-lay booklet of the band with black fingernail polish, black eyeliner, styling mouse and wearing black makes you punk rock, then I apologize, this is punk rock. But, as they say in North Carolina, you can put a cat in the oven, but it don't make it a biscuit.

I won't be keeping this CD, as I don't love it. But, there is nothing much you can fault about this album. The songs are brilliant rock songs, hence the 5 stars. It's a pleasure to listen to this album by a musically very talented band. Someone wrote that this album doesn't have much polish, but I would say it is very polished. The production is excellent. Great melodies. There are some nice tender songs. I occasionally found some of the metal riffs a bit aggressive, macho, and mind-numbingly simplistic. They would have appealed to me more when I was adolescent. This album didn't make it into my permanent collection, but in terms of rock culture I wouldn't be surprised to find it in a list of the 50 most important rock albums of 2005. I'm just not much of a fan of radio-friendly hard rock/metal/grunge. But, if you are, you'll probably dig this.

2 out of 5 stars Hmmm..........2005-08-03

Unwritten Law has gone slightly downhill. On Elva, we saw some good old fashioned punk-rock laced with some slightly harder content. Also, it had some pretty good lyrics. I picked up 'Here's to the Mourning' expecting it to be more of the same, if not slightly harder. What I got was dumbed down, "why can't I be on the radio?" modern rock. For example, the lyrics are just inane, making no sense, merely trying to rhyme wherever it seems like it needs to. You'll hear nothing really new here, just some tired riffs and progressions that you've doubtless heard before in other places.
On the plus side, this IS Unwritten Law, and some of the songs are undeniably catchy and good to bounce your head to. I just think that this band is capable of much better music. This one's a miss, but I sure hope that their next album shows recovery.

1 out of 5 stars This album straight sucks.......2005-05-07

I want my money back. After Elva and Music in High Places, I expected more, not just some really intelligent band trying to be hard... badly.

    Album Description

MTV's 'Music In High Places' brings musicians to the most ancient and intriguing sites on earth, and captures their acoustic performances and in-depth interviews during the journey. Unwritten Law's performance in Yellowstone National Park in August almost sounds antithetical to their punk sound, but when you hear the songs in their raw form, you immediately hear what longtime fans have known for years. This is the California band's first Lava release after parting ways with Interscope. 2003.

    Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars Well..........2006-08-16

I guess any punk band that goes acoustic nowadays has my respect. I love punk-when it's genuine. The beef I have with today's punk (it's okay, really) is that it's downweighted by all mainstream sounds and expectations from major lables that it can be. The result? Millions of cookie cutter pop-punk lovesick junkie bands. It's good, but after the 5th time around, it gets a bit stolid.

That being said, Unwritten Law does not fit into this catagorie. For one thing they're lyrics are much deeper and, well, more phylisophical to say the least. Not all they're songs are all "my girlfriend dumped me for someone else" or "I just met some hottie and I can already tell she's my soulmate," basically sh** that just doesn't fly in real life. Just read the lyrics to "Seeing Red." But on another level, the guitar is so much more sophisticated. It's not just four power chords making the song sound like a 60's bubble-gum pop band sped up. Unwritten Law are far more advanced musically than that.

Well, now that we have a happy little review of the band as a whole, lets go to the cd, shall we. This 11-track disc features unplugged versions of past works, most of which can be found on the previous studio release, "Elva" (which as a sidenote, I would also HIGHLY recommend.) But it is more than that. Just listen to, say, "Up All Night," the hit song off "Elva," then listen to how it's revamped on "TMIHP" and you'll notice that's it's given a completely different face. The origional version on "Elva," is loud, enjoyable, and overall just a classic punk song even if it never overplayed on the airwaves. The version on here is not necissarily better, but it proves that studio effects were not the driving power of the song. The song just rocks, period.

Unwritten Law do not just confine themselves to Punk. "Rest Of My Life," also off "Elva," is your achtypical alternative pop mainstream music, lovey dovey, you name it, but somehow, Unwritten Law just make it their own. "Elva (the song)" has a life of it's own. It's not your typical pop love song. It's what the radio needs to be playing today. Also imbedded in this is the fact that they don't restrict themself to one punk sound. See, there are a bit different types of punk, from the nemesis of the Clash and the Sex Pistols, To the old school sound of Social Distortion, to the new wave of Green Day, to the poppy mediocrity of today. Unwritten Law covers it all, from the heavy rockin' "Blame it on me" to "rest of my life." This album prooves to me that they can pick up accoustic instruments and not ruin a song like some non-talented artists do. Nuff Said? Great! Music fans that aren't living in a carboard box of media expectations, buy this album. Pick up elva to, eh:)

Oh, and contrary to what amazon has posted, only one track, "blame it on me," is recorded live. the rest are just studion acoustic mixes.

4 out of 5 stars An enjoyable listen for those quiet days..........2004-12-06

One day at the store, I noticed that this cd had just come out so I bought it. Even though it is basically just acoustical versions of songs off "Elva", it is still a pretty good cd. The production is very well done and the songs sound great in their acoustical versions. Even though I always skip a couple of songs here or there, the rest of them are good. Anyways, grab this one if your an Unwritten Law fan who wants some acoustical versions of their more popular songs.

    5 out of 5 stars Great listen.......2004-01-22

If you like Unwritten Law you will love this. It almost has a very innocent sound to it. It also has an old treasure for old UL fans in the last track. Good Stuff!

5 out of 5 stars Pinnacle of pop punk.......2006-11-26

I was fortunate enough to be guided through my first experiences with the punk genre back around 2000. I was given this album and instantly fell in love. I thought most music was going to be like this in the genre, but I soon found that this Unwritten Law album is the best of its kind. It's sad that UL went another route because every song on this album is more than memorable. These songs define an era of my life and their other stuff(and other bands) just don't cut the mustard for me. This album is the BEST of the pop punk genre. If you don't own it, you should, because if you are a fan of the pop punk, then you are definitely missing out on a benchmark of what the music should sound like.

Elva is good, but it just isn't this album. Here's To The Mourning is decent in its own way, but that album just isn't what Unwritten Law should be.

Take my and the other reviews advice and get this album. You won't be sorry. I still listen to it over and over and you will too.

    5 out of 5 stars a instant favorite.......2006-08-28

i have probably listened to this cd more than any other in my collection. However i havent in at least 3 years, until i randomly thought about it today. The cd i owned no longer worked, but i decided to buy another.
Start to finish a perfect album.
I would rate it as my pick for top 10 of all albums that i like.
    i must have

    5 out of 5 stars My All-Time Favorite Album.......2006-08-18

This album is awesome from first song to last song. In fact, out of all of the albums I own, this is one of the only ones that I don't have to skip tracks. In fact, I played this CD so much that I damaged the disc, and had to buy a new one. I would definitely recommend this album to anyone. It's a must have CD.

5 out of 5 stars An Amazing album from an Amazing band.......2003-10-12

A lot of people think that Unwritten Law step aside from their "Punk Image" with Elva, but for me this is the album that they kind of broke away from that. That's not to say that is a bad thing. With this CD Unwritten Law cut the strings off and freed themselves from all the "punk rules" to make an AWSOME album. Even though in my heart of hearts I still believe Unwritten Law to be a punk band. It's just with this cd they've evolved BIG TIME! While it does have a lot of punk in it, it also has a lot of metal, New Metal, and the song Lonesome kind of sounds Funk to me, but when all this is rolled together it just makes for some really good Rock N Roll. I can't say that this is their best album because you would have to go a long way to beat Blue Room, but if this album isn't better than Blue Room it's sure as hell is right up there with it. There is such a wide ranch of songs on this cd, and it proves what a talented band Unwritten Law is. You've got everything on this cd, from songs like Cailin (which is a love rock song) to songs like Teenage Suicide (which is a really fast pop punk song). This album was sort of their "transition" album. Which is why I guess it's a self-titled album. And I think the reason they did this was because they didn't want to sound like EVERY other punk band out there that sounds or tries to sound like Green Day's Dookie. A lot of people call Unwritten Law sellouts but to me there is nothing less punk than putting rules on it, but who cares about labels? Personally I don't think Unwritten Law can make a bad album (even though I would say Elva is my least favorite, but I still liked it) but there is just something really special about this album that I can't just put into words. I can honestly say this is one of my fifteen favorite albums of all time. What else can I say other than this is an amazing album from an amazing band, and if you call Unwritten Law "sellouts" then you have one of two problems: You don't know how to think for yourself or you just suck.

    5 out of 5 stars Excellent album.......2003-01-04

This album was the first I bought by these guys and it has proved to be the best. I have since bought Elva, Oz Factor, and Blue room. Blue Room is too garage sounding for my taste. Oz Factor I really enjoy(it kind of has a Green Day sound to it), Elva is good but seems to have too many similar sounding riffs to the songs. This ST album has all the creative elements that make an excellent disk. The songs I really dig are Harmonic, Teenage Suicide, Cailin, Lonesome, and Coffin Text. If you enjoy some upbeat music with some changes of tempo here and there this is the album for you.

4 out of 5 stars Great album, not to full potential.......2004-08-16

This is a great album by unwritten law. The songs are beautifully crafted, have great lyrical content, and just plain rock. Being a musician myself, i think i have found the problem on why Oz Factor may turn something off. The hi-hats are closed most of the time (hi-hats are a part of a drum set next to the snare), and it doesn't sound as energetic as when they are open. The more energetic the music is, the more we seem to like it. That is why so many of us like the Self Titled and Blue Room more than Oz Factor. Not all of the songs are great, but if you look at the album as a whole, it really is an amazing piece of work by Unwritten Law.

    5 out of 5 stars Oz Factor.......2004-01-20

This album is so great you dont even understand! Most of the time a band has their best album with there first. Totally not the case with Oz. From the start of SupermaN to the last track Legend Of Johnny and Sarh, you find yourself needing more! But please keep in mind this is not Elva! this is 100% pure UNWRITTEN LAW! The tracks to look out for are: Denied, Shallow, and... wait who am I kidding?? The whole album is great, it is a must have for any UL Fan!

4 out of 5 stars This is great stuff!.......2003-08-19

Although a lot of people don't like this album, I personally thought it was really good. This album is packed with good songs, but there are a few weak songs.

1:Superman-8/10-Good way to kick off the album.

2:Oz Factor-10/10-I absolutely love this song.

3:Suzanne-6/10-Not very good, too poppy for my liking.

4:Denied-7/10-Eh this one's ok, just mediocre.

5:Tell Me Why-10/10-This is one of my favorites on the CD.

6:Rejected-9/10-Another great song, one of my favorites.

7:Falling Down-10/10-My favorite on the album, by far.

8:Shallow-5/10-This song gets old real fast, and annoyingly it's on both Oz Factor and Blue Room...

    9:Differences-6/10-Another mediocre song

10:Lame-10/10-I really like this song, one of my favorites.

    11:Stop To Think-8/10-This song's pretty good, however it's a bit short.

12:Legend Of Johnny And Sarah-4/10-What a way to end the CD, sheesh...

4 out of 5 stars Great songs, bad quality........2003-06-04

This cd has really cool songs. Great lyrics. Very melodic. "Shallow" is the strongest track on this ablum, in my opinion. My only gripe about this cd is the quality of the songs. It could have used better production. I know the lack of production earns them punk credibility, but a cleaner sound would have been great! I don't think this cd tops Unwritten Law's self titled, but it is still pretty awesome.

    5 out of 5 stars UL!.......2003-03-05

UL is the best band I have come accross in a long time. Their lyrics are phenomenal. I love the CD Elva, but it is so different from Oz Factor. The diversity of the music is great! keep on Rockin UL~ PEACE
