About the Artist
Chris Newman is one of the founders, along with Greg Sage of the Wipers and Fred Cole of the Rats, of the grunge sound which originated in Portland and was later to conquer the world out of Seattle. His band, Napalm Beach, was a vital influence on all the Mudhoneys, Soundgardens, Alices and Nirvanas which were soon to follow. They recorded several full-length albums, of which two are available on CD on the Flying Heart label. Chris also started a band called Snow Bud and the Flower People, in which all the songs were like about smoking pot and so on; there is still a devoted cult following for Snow Bud, and the band continues to play from time to time. There are also two Snow Bud CDs on Flying Heart. Chris Newman recorded the solo project "Volunteer" in 1997, and soon after that he started going through a very difficult time in his life, when he and his wife, Valarie, were homeless on the streets of San Francisco and severely addicted. Thankfully they have returned to good health and a better life, and Chris has written a magnificent collection of songs depicting the homeless life.
Product Description
Northwest rock legend Chris Newman comes roaring back onto center stage with this all-new full-length CD, after spending several years homeless on the streets of San Francisco with his wife, Valarie. Chris and his world-renowned band Napalm Beach have been enthusiastically received in their 2004 shows, and this CD tells the story of his experience with homelessness and severe drug addiction, which he has thankfully put behind him now. Tarp Town Years marks the return of a major talent after a harrowing experience, and the songs are a dramatic, rocking collection of vignettes of Chriss life in the last five years.
In "Tarp Town Year's", Chris reveals more of his life than ever! His experience's in life, dealing with hardship's and his life on the street's, are revealed with savy in a way only this master of the guitar could ever do.
It is highly recommended for those who wish to hear the heart and soul of a man who knows. Be prepared to hear some outstanding guitar work, heart on the sleeve lyric's and great arrangment,s.
Without a doubt, a must have, if you know Mr. Newman.
