Rapping for Jesus is really where it's at!.......2007-07-19
It seems this is the music we need in todays society as it has become so perverse. I used to have about 500 rap albums, but I don't even this to them anymore. Everything I listen to now is filled with the holy spirt and this is the way it will stay.
I thank God for people such as Trip Lee, Lecrae and other various artists who rap for God and continue to do so! It sounds great! I just hope more people listen to this instead of all the other garbage out there.
All I say is keep it up! Bring the beats, and the verses! Don't stop until the casket drop, lol.!!!!!
GOES HARD.......2007-07-12
Great Album with Sold Doctrine.......2007-07-07
Awesome.......2007-06-25
Masterfully done.......2007-06-17
1) Christ centered. The artists do an amazing job of expositing the 13 letters of Paul given the study that they put in before making the songs. They all come very knowledgable about the conditions at which the letters were written and do a great job of breaking down the text of the letters into a culturally-relevant language. I've never heard the Word being spit this way on an album. You get background, teaching, and application from this.
2) Filled with talented MCs (Lecrae, Trip Lee, Tedashii, Sho, FLAME, 1-Lyfe, Dillon Chase, JSon) who bring lyrical fire on each track. There is no weak MC on this track - and the lyrics are meaningful.
3) Diverse in style with the beats and sound each track. You get the dirty south sound, east coast beats, nice slow jams, R&B-esque tracks, the midwest sound... it's all in there and each artist does a great job of using the beats with their flow. It's balanced as well: No one style dominates or one MC dominates (like Lecrae on the 1st 116 Clique album).
If you like high-quality lyrics and production, diversity, balance, heart, soul, passion, and something that edifies you and challenges you, this is it. ...And it's all for the glory of God.
Good tracks to preview: 'Dig in' by Trip Lee, 'Philippians - To Live is Christ' by Trip Lee, 'Galatians - Justified' by Sho.

It's hard to tell where the traditional ends and the original begins in the music of Eilen Jewell, a sweet-voiced young singer who steeps her material in the hard times of old, reviving the stories and musical styles of the Depression. On her own "Rich Man's World," she casts herself as a "lonely rambler girl" while conjuring comparisons with Gillian Welch. Another original, "In the End," sounds uncannily like Lucinda Williams, while a revival of Eric Andersen's train-hopping "Dusty Boxcar Wall" and the double-entendre blues of the traditional "If You Catch Me Stealing" reinforce the sense of Jewell as a musical throwback to a time before she was born. Yet there are timeless pleasures here as well: a bittersweet reading of Charlie Rich's "Thanks a Lot," an understated, harmony-laden rendition of Bob Dylan's "Walking Down the Line," the sultry cantina twang of her original "Too Hot to Sleep." When the musical arrangements aren't generic Hot Club and the songs seem more like role-playing, Jewell sounds like a singer with enough promise to develop her own identity. --Don McLeese

The only complaint I have about this CD is the lyrics. While they are fun, and sometimes deeply meaningful, I'm still dissapointed with the lack of God's name in lots of these songs. I would say, (lyric wise) your best bet in Christian "punk" is Stellar Kart, but these lyrics are definately deeper than just about any of Reliant K's "another Christian "punk" band" albums, and for that reason, I think you could do MUCH worse than picking up Letters to the President, as it is a lot of fun.

John Michael Montgomery has weathered a number of personal and professional storms since his 1992 debut, but a label change in 2000 jumpstarted his career, and now the title track of Letters from Home has made him a contender again. While producer Byron Gallimore stocks the album with substantial songs ("Look at Me Now," "Cool") that contain a heart-tugging nugget of private truth, it's "Letters from Home" that will leave you bawling. Whether you're pro- or antiwar doesn't matter: its strength lies in the way it puts a personal face on a faraway army. There's more eloquence in this soldier's internal monologue than there is in the text of the letters, and Montgomery's vocal--as lean as a G.I.'s rations--drives home the authenticity of the moment, which unveils so many hidden hurts and disappointments and fears among his platoon. Like "Good Ground," the song that precedes it, "Letters" points up the importance, responsibility, and identity of belonging. Country music handles this theme better than any other genre, and Montgomery, now a family man himself, imbues his readings not just as a hit maker, but as a man who knows his own place in the parade of life. And just maybe, country music history. --Alanna NashCustomer Reviews:

Montgomery Delivers Heartfelt "Letters".......2005-04-18
Musically, the family resemblance between John Michael and brother Eddie of Montgomery Gentry fame runs thin. While Eddie Montgomery is a heel kicking honky tonk troubadour, John Michael is the personification of gentility. While Montgomery Gentry has blasted the speakers of country radio with defiant anthems like "She Couldn't Change Me" and "Hell Yeah," big brother Montgomery sings about roping the moon and covering his significant other with kisses.
Not surprisingly, nostalgia, sentimentality and introspection earmarked John Michael's latest album "Letters from Home." In fact, other than a few rollicking honky tonk numbers, most of "Letters from Home" deal with the affairs of the heart. Best of which is the excellent title cut as well as lead off single, "Letters from Home." Riding along some gentle guitar picking and plaintive sounding dobro, Montgomery sings about a G.I. savoring correspondence from his parents and loved ones while being far away from home. An engaging number that has done its share of currying favor with country radio, "Letters from Home" finds Montgomery back into the top 10 terrain after a 4 year hiatus. Less poignant, but equally sentimental is the amicable "Look at Me Now."
Ultra cool is Harley Allen and Brice Long's ballad "Cool"--- a cautionary tale of a father warning his rebellious teenager to take stock of his rowdy ways for what goes around comes around. Replete with some fine fiddling, Montgomery's performance on "Cool" is nothing less than stellar--sincere, reflective and entrancing. Though "Cool" first appeared on Montgomery's previous greatest hits collection, it's such a standout that I was glad it got revived. Paternal fidelity is also the theme of the album's opener "Good Ground." Though set at a faster tempo with some big booming drums, it's one of the most country efforts Montgomery has tackled in a while.
Billy Yates and Jim Collins' "Break This Chain" is another superb country offering. Almost delivered as a prayer, "Break This Chain" expresses the desperate plea of an alcoholic for deliverance for the sake of his family. To my ears, this is one of the most moving tear jerker I have had heard in a while. Nevertheless, not all is sad. The hopeless romantic can put their fainting heart to ease: "That Changes Everything," penned by David Lee and Tony Lane (who were also responsible for crafting the title cut) is a gentle yet beautiful ballad extolling love's power to "change everything."
However, not everything works here. Montgomery's sensitivity can work against him when the material is not right. I find Paul Overstreet and Marty Dodson's "It Rocked" excruciatingly sappy. "It Rocked" celebrates the milestones of life: first love, first car, first job.... Come on, I think this is a little too maudlin! I am already starting to get a tooth ache, it's just too sugary. I am sure Montgomery or/and producer Bryon Gallimore must have felt that way too. So, to boost Montgomery's machismo, we have the propulsive honky tonk number "Goes Good With Beer." With Montgomery's crisp free suit and his family man image portrayed in the other songs, I find it hard to believe when Montgomery sings about hanging with his crazy buddies and those "pretty girls" in a smoke filled tavern as he professes in "Goes Good With Beer." A tad more believable is the funky yet somehow raunchy "Little Devil"-though "Little Devil" sounds like a recycle of Montgomery's number 1 hit, "Be My Baby Tonight."
Aside from these few detours, "Letters from Home," as the title suggests, appeals to the heart. With country radio's incessant appetite for heart tugging tunes, "Letters from Home" could easily be one of Montgomery's most radio friendly albums. In fact, I believe this album is hued with chart hits. This is a much welcomed return to form for Montgomery.
MORE THAN LETTERS..........2004-09-16
But the title track is just the beginning for this fine country offering by John Michael Montgomery. I found myself listening to and enjoying every track on LETTERS FROM HOME. Montgomery's smoother-than-silk voice is one of the finest in country music today and his straight-forward approach to his music comes through in every note. You won't want to miss this one.
THE HORSEMAN
A good, solid country music album!.......2004-09-12
LETTERS begins with "Good Ground," an uptempo number about family and love that continues on most of the other songs. The title track is a gut-wrenching number (admit it, you had a tear in your eye when you first heard it) that indeed stands out, but is not the only good tune on here. "Look At Me Now" is a confessional number about growing older, while "Cool" deals with the consequences faced in life.
"That's What I'm Talkin About" is a romp that manages to skewer gossipers AND contain suggestive lyrics (a similar vein is followed on "Little Devil"). "Goes Good With Beer" is destined to become a honky-tonk classic, while "Break This Chain" is pretty much it's opposite--the story of a man from a long line of alcoholics praying for the strenght to defeat his curse. "That Changes Everything" shows us the surprise directions life can take, while "It Rocked" lets us know that life's greatest moments and sensations come from the simple things.
LETTERS FROM HOME is easily John Michael Montgomery's best album. While Montgomery has situated himself as frontman for radio-friendly music (ironically, big-brother Eddie is doing the same thing for outlaw country), he shows us that he does indeed know what a good country song is about...His voice is neither world-class nor run-of-the-mill, but he uses it for all it's worth, and it's worth a pretty penny. LETTERS FROM HOME will make you cry, make you laugh, make you sing, and even--if you're really in the mood--make you dance. A great album by one of today's best performers.

Miss Those Days, How about a Greatest Hits? .......2007-07-14
On "Wholesale" the first 4 songs I can listen to every day getting ready for work, just going out. Just a great hard rock band, that kinda gotted clumped into the alternative rock scene I guess back in the early 90's.
Kay Hanley has a great voice and is one of my favorite female singers, and with the hard rock edgy sound it does sound good, I've yet to pick up her solo efforts including "Cherry Marmalade" I think it's called, but I've been close a couple times.
Hey, perhaps a Best of Letters To Cleo AND Kay Hanley double disk? Yeah, let's get this thing going!

Album Description
London-born Declan McManus, better known as Elvis Costello, has distinguished his remarkable career with a long and acclaimed string of artistically adventurous albums. this lyrically brilliant and melodically nimble singer-songwriter's penchant for exploring diverse genres and shifting musical personae is nowhere more front and center than on 1993's The Juliet Letters. Inspired by a collection of missives written by an Italian professor to Shakespeare's Juliet, this unique project fuses pop sensibilities and chamber music form, proving both avant garde and accesssible as Costello gave new meaning to the term "alternative music."Customer Reviews:
one of my top five albums.......2007-06-21
Great CD.......2006-12-18
I can imagine some people may not like this CD so much. The sound of this album is for a particular taste and the sound/style of a string quartet is unwavering which may feel bland after a while to some ears. But there is nothing in poor quality about this CD and the composition is solid and creative throughout. They have gotten a lot of mileage out of a single instrumentation of 4 string instruments and a voice.
I didn't give it 4 stars because that would suggest I had a particular issue with the CD, which I really hadn't. If 4 1/2 were available I would select that.
Brave, but not for everyone........2006-06-08
But the song sequence works wonderfully and the playing of the Brodskys never sinks to pedestrian. These folks obviously understood that they were going to have to throw preconceived ideas about playing with a "rocker," just as Elvis was trying to (as he put it) avoid the dreaded "crossover" sound. My major gripe with the album is that Elvis' voice isn't always up to the task ("North" fares much better in that department). And anyone looking for a "typical" Costello platter is in for a major shock. Of course, anyone trying to define a "typical" Costello disc is probably going to have a rough go of it.....
That doesn't stop "The Juliet Letters" from featuring some fine work, including "The Birds Will Still Be Singing," which deserves a shot with a voice like Josh Groban's or Michael Buble's. Or maybe now that Elvis has his new beau, she'll do a full set of her favorites from the Costello/MacManus discography. Now wouldn't THAT be a hoot? (Think of the lush strings that abounded on "North," over a decade after "The Juliett Letters.")
The bonus disc has some fun things, including cuts from Costello's obscure "Deep Dead Blue" and - my personal favorite - he and the Brodskys covering "God Only Knows."
Unusual collaboration demonstrates that EC knows no boundaries.......2006-04-22
This reissue features the original album on the first disc. The highlights there are "Swine","I Almost Had a Weakness" with a great melody, "This Offer is Unrepeatable" and "Jacksons, Monk and Rowe". The last track is the closest to a "single" the album would produce. EC wrote, co-wrote with the Brodsky Quartet (some members of the quartet also wrote material solo as well). The remastered sound has better detail than the previous edition but otherwise seems much the same. If Costello and the Brodsky Quartet overreach at times, it's the over reach of talent and ambition not pretension.
The bonus disc is the find here. Including tracks recorded for other projects with and without the Brodsky Quartet including Costello's favorite tracks from the "Deep Dead Blue" Ep released in 1993 recorded with Bill Frisell. We get a stunning version of "God Only Knows" recorded live with the Quartet as well as other material recorded live such as Michael Thomas' marvelous "Skeleton" and a powerful arrangement of the folk standard "She Moved Through the Fair" arranged by Quartet member Paul Cassidy. Two of Costello's collaborations with John Harle from the "Terror and Magnficience" CD are also included. We also get live recordings of "Put Away Forbidden Playthings" (a song that Costello was commissioned to write) as well as a trio of the Fire Suite pieces EC collaborated on.
This is a terrific reissue mixing a number of unusual collaborations on the second disc. While fans who loved "My Aim is True" probably won't be playing this a whole lot Costello fans that love his rich material and unusual collaborations over the years will. This makes an excellent companion piece to "My Flame Burns Blue" Costello's jazz-rock-orchestral album recorded live. That terrific and unusual album has a bonus disc with excerpts from Costello's fine contemporary orchestral piece "Il Sogno" conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas working with the London Symphony Orchestra as a bonus disc. Both of these releases are well worth picking up.

The Boston quintet had a fine run with a '94 debut that included the hit "Here & Now" and a slot on the Melrose Place soundtrack. A sophomore slump followed. Upbeat alt-rock that keeps you dancing!.......2006-05-05
This is my second favorite LTC album, and they keep up the energy through almost the whole disc!
"I Got Time" is a perfect opener! It gives the album a fast start and the quirky lyrics set the stage for the rest of the album ("I've got the strength to move, but....why should I?") Other highlights include the swingy songs "Because of You", "Veda Very Shining", and "Sparklegirl". There are a couple of flat songs, such as "Alouette & Me" and the first single "Anchor". I would have released "Co-Pilot" as the first single for this album; it might have caught on a little better. Plus, it's my favorite song on the album! "Go!" is another great song that deserves to be the title track. It has an energy that doesn't quit and features some great organ work.
Go! is a great album, and fans of "10 Things I Hate About You" LTC and Kay's work in the film "Josie and the Pussycats" (yes, that is Kay as the singing voice of Josie) should give this a listen. You may find that there was so much more to them than just poppy hooks.
