AWESOME CD........2006-05-27

This CD is worth every penny. All the songs in this CD are great. Some people want to compare this band to Chimaira but they have their own unique sound. I went to see them live and Noah's voice is the real deal. He has an incredible vocal range. The guitars and drumming are incredible. This is a must have CD for your collection!

Bleed the Sky.......2006-04-18

I really wasn't expecting much from this band, considering the recent METALCORE OVERDOSE flooding the market and the association of the word "Bleed" in a band name with awful music. I was getting kind of sick of Metalcore but this was one of few i don't regret listening too. First off, the drummer kicks ass, the guitars are great, and there singer has a yell that is reminicent of Mark Hunter from Chimaira. He even has a half decent singing voice, although it does sound heavily FXed often times. If your going to compare this band to Chimaira, then lets compare them in an area where they will be better then Chimaira for the reviews sake. What im trying to say is if you were to put Bleed the Sky's debut "Paradigm in Entropy" next to Chimaira's debut "Pass Out of Existence" i'd say Bleed the Sky would own Chimaira. I'll look forward to a future release by these guys and see what direction they've decided to go in, definite potential here. If you like Chimaira, or Metalcore in general i'd recommend this record.

Very Good Album.......2006-04-18

I must've listened to Bleed The Sky's debut album "Paradigm In Entropy" like 4 or 5 times already. Whenever I listen to this album, it just warps straight into my head, and I just can't get enough of it. These guys reminds me of Chimaira alot (one of my favorite bands), but with more intense shrieks and more clean singing. Noah Robinson has a nice vocal range, going from a vicious shriek like scream to an awesome clean singing voice that's not overdone which is a good thing. Guitarists Kyle Moorman and Wayne Miller have some nice crushing dual riffs and even a few solos which is pretty nice (although I wish they could've done more solos on here, but oh well there's always next time). But it's Austin D'Ammond's drumming on here that really gets my attention. This album is chock full of sick double bass drum patterns throughout that really get your adrenaline going. The album kicks off with a bang with my favorite song "Minion". I just love that solo near the ending, it kicks ass. The next three songs "Killtank", "Paradigm In Entropy", and "Skin Un Skin" are juggernauts of ripping double bass drum patterns and searing riffs that'll rip your bare flesh off. Other good songs including "Leverage" and "The Martyr" showcase Noah's clean singing abilities. The other songs are good, but those are my favorites. So anyways if you're a fan of Chimaira, then I suggest you give Bleed The Sky a shot. Grab a can of Monster Energy, put this badboy in your stereo, turn the volume full blast, and raise those horns. From Europe, with love...aha..........2006-03-30

Well,let me just say one thing...im european, and I dont understand why some american people put american metal down to nothing, as if the only thing you do is to copy the pure grain european metal...let me disagree. I didnt knew Bleed the Sky, until I bought this album, and really...its a good album. The vocals could be better, the drums are quite good, and guitars convince...I think they do sound great, not original, but they can create a sound of their own. Very intense music, good to listen, and worth buying.
Its true it still sounds raw, but give the guys a chance, and time to build up their sound...some great bands only achieved that after 3/4 albuns. And do not despise american metal, you still have some of the greatest metal bands.

Another great stride for the three goofy guys from the Twin Cities. The two opener cuts are possibly the best this band has acheived (at least in the studio) and the songwriting of drummer Scott Macdonald grows more intriguing with each outing (check out "I Promise Not To Be An Asshole").

Some of the rough edges are wearing away here, with stronger songwriting shining through. MacDonald's "Vengeance" sounds appropriately sneaky with its muffled guitar and deflected chorus ("It's always good to see you/But don't use me for your vengeance"). Bill Graber's anthemic riff on "Turn To" and serious lyrics stand in contrast to the song credits these clowns used (the members of Boston are listed).

Not as consistently strong as previous efforts, but still contains their best songs to date.

Go buy it because you wont regret it. It's got three part harmonies scaling whole octaves and super fantastic rock riffs. the drummer can play and sing like a champ. if you like melodic(not wimpy) guitar rock, get it.

French black metal with no innovation .......2006-08-20

If you have heard Merrimack's earlier releases, you must know that they have been a band staying true to the rules of early 90's black metal, placing a good dose of atmosphere on their songs and resembling the likes of Burzum and Darkthrone.

Of Entropy and Life Denial is the French band's full-length disc (their previous work mostly consists of split releases and EP's) and finds the band somewhat abandoning their atmospheric roots in favour of a more straightforward, fiercely aggressive brand of black metal. There are no keyboards or syrupy melodic lines on the album; and the production is quite good for a black metal release. The sound is clear most of the time and the mix is powerful. The songs boast lots of tremelo picking with intense blast beats, but thankfully, the band also know when to take a little break. They insert more droney, atmospheric passages into their craft, rendering pieces like "Seraphic Conspiracy (Of the Angels and Their Mission)" and "The Birth of a Life's Sacerdoce (Of Nascency and Ineluctability)" more diverse than the one-dimensional, single-minded angry ones. The guitar work on the intro of "Insemination (Of Procreation and Its Consequences)" bears a resemblance to Immortal's earlier work; and "Melancholia Balneam Diaboli (Of Acedia and Her Daughters)" might appeal to most Burzum fans. There could even be drawn parallels between Burzum and Merrimack's painful screaming and arrangement on this piece. The purely hateful "Descension From Life (Of Spiritual Discipline and Metaphysical Gravity)" is in the same mold with Marduk's sickest work, particularly circa Opus Nocturne. That said, track nine, "Consecration of the Temple", stands out for its very experimental nature; and "Carnaceral" recalls the band's moodier, darker statements. It's a short yet effective instrumental that serves as a pre-cursor to the eighteen-plus-minute album finale.

For some reason, French black metal bands don't interest me much. I had a similar problem with Belef's last album, but this one easily destroys their work. Still, I don't think black metal is French bands' forte.

Terami Hirsch is truly one of the most amazing musicians you might have never heard. Entropy 29 is a masterpiece. The vivid imagery in her lyrics, the emotional vocals and piano, the sometimes unearthly quality of the sound itself... I cannot stop listening. Give her a listen.

Haunting, lyrical and introspective........2005-12-03

I am in love with Terami Hirsch's music. Like her previous album, "To the Bone," "Entropy 29" is more than just a collection of her latest songs. The album as a whole is one work centered on a theme (a science fiction/time travel one here, making it the perfect place to expand and explore further the electronic side to her music). I've heard so many people compare Hirsch with Tori Amos, and while I definately see the strong similarity, I truly believe that Hirsch is a better storyteller by far. Her work is engaging, accessible without losing any of its artistry, and still every bit as experimental.

It Rarely Gets Better.......2007-07-11

19 Moons is one of those "must haves" to any fan of experimental jazz. The atmospheric layers create a aural journey that will take you to places you never knew existed but always knew were where you needed to be. And the really amazing thing is that the follow up albums ("Ashirai Pattern," "Auzar," "Rwanda," and "Infa'a") are even better. Get it now: if you're dissapointed, I'll come to your house and wash dishes for a year.

Faruq Z. Bey of Detroit is a profesional at what he does. He is full of soul and feeling. Listening to this album over and over again will put you in a state of calm and warm emotion. This is at least the emotions that I got after listening to this album several times. The first few times I listened, I quite didn't get it. Musically satisfying I put it up there with Mingus and Coltrane. This music put the hairs of my body sticking straight up. My favorite track on the album is called "After Death". This song starts out with Faruq on sax creating overtones and slowly increasing strength and then the bass of Johnston hits and everthing is into one. Vibes, drums sax and bass!!! This is one of my favorite Jazz tunes of all time. This is in my top five of all time. This is an Album of spirituallity. Check it out!

If you are a fan of ZOAR or A Murder Of Angels, you might enjoy this cd. Although not as gloomy are the two mentioned, this is a different slant to "movie in your mind" music. A haunting piece!
