About the Artist
The Shroud of Lowell is an original rock and roll project featuring former members of 80s new-wavers The Nails ("88 Lines About 44 Women", "Home of the Brave"), German noise-rockers Slag (American F*ck CD; "Superpig Overdrive", CMJ top-100 single 1994) and New York art-rockers Dead Nude. Dark, introspective rock and roll compositions citing influences from singer-songwriter-composers a la Nick Cave and Leonard Cohen to 80s/90s luminaries like the Swans and Morphine. The band takes a smart, ensemble approach to bridging the gap between classic rock grandeur and punk-new wave urgency.

I get the feeling the singer is on the verge of something greater than he realizes. In some moments he seems to hold back, but when he lets go, you are arrested.
There were moments I thought I heard from Ozzy Osbourne at his best, or Steven Tyler when he wasn't annoying. I even thought I heard a little bit of The Violent Femmes, but briefly enough to enjoy it.
The music is haunting and captivating. Very little is poppy here, but once the public comes around to appreciating real music again, the Shroud of Lowell should be the messenger.
