5 out of 5 stars AMAZING!!.......2007-04-16

If you are a fan of RHCP, this is a must-have! John and Flea's guitar playing, Anthony's vocals, Chad's beats- powerful, moving, in short, nothing less than brilliant.

5 out of 5 stars awesome live album.......2007-01-06

I bought this a few months ago, figuring it would be unavailable eventually, as most import live records are. It's great, I'm glad I bought it.

5 out of 5 stars Currently the Best Live Rock Band In the World.......2006-11-01

Being in my 40's and remembering the Chili's in 1985, this is not the novalty punk/funk band they once where. Yes, they still have the funk, but this is truely a great group of pure musicians all at the top of their game. The technical skill at each instrument can be compared with the rock ledgends of the past and they more than hold their own. In 2004 during the 3 shows at Hyde Park in London the Chili Peppers demonstrate on a live disc what many fans of the band have known for a long time, these guys can really play. The range of funk and disco songs to hard core guiter rifts that rival that of the greats like Page and Beck (Jeff)showcase how good this band has become. Add to that the pure excitement that came out of the early U2 shows and you have the best live band touring today. Put on a pair of headphones, close your eyes and see if you agree. It is a shame that this disc was never released here in the states since there is finally a live document (Other than the Slane DVD) that captures this band doing what is does best, Rock out live! No back up singers and extra players, its pure old school all the way through the 27 tracts. I myself can't believe the comparisons I have referenced, but they are well deserved. Keith Richards once said that any band on a given night may be the best band in the world. These 3 nights in London showcase what is truely a great band.

5 out of 5 stars This is the Australian Import.......2004-10-03

Same as the other one, only cheaper. This CD is amazing, how could they keep this one from the US market? Oh well, thank god for imports. If your a fan, buy it NOW!!

Taken from their mammoth shows in June 2004, Live in Hyde Park captures the Red Hot Chili Peppers at their very best. The scene was set by changeable weather, the Godfather of Soul, James Brown, and Chicks on Speed being unfairly jeered off the stage.

Heralded by a tense intro, the funky, fists-in-the-air sound of "Can't Stop" cutting through the ether is one of those moments that make live albums so compelling for those who were there and those who weren't. The Peppers go on to play through 2 CDs' worth of favorites from By the Way and Californication plus newer material such as "Fortune Faded," "Rolling Sly Stone," and "Leverage of Space".

It's difficult to pick highlights, as the level of musicianship from the four was high as ever but unexpected, quirky numbers such as John and Flea's rendition of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" stand out as memorable euphoric moments. Sadly, the only pre-Californication songs were old favorites "Under the Bridge" and "Give it Away," both sounding fresh despite being 13 years old.

Live in Hyde Park is definitely a worthy addition to any record collection. It's amazing that a band in their third decade of success can release their full debut live album, but the Chili Peppers prove that they've still got it (now, more than ever) and will be around for a very long time to come. --David Trueman

Album Description

The Funky Foursome from LA crossed the pond to record this double live disc to capitalize on the vast reverence accorded them in continental Europe. "Live In Hyde Park" is a distillation of the three shows performed in London from June 2004. The setlist includes three previously unreleased songs: "Rolling Sly Stone", "Leverage Of Space" and "Mini-Epic" as well as covers of songs originally by Donna Summer, Looking Glass and 45 Grave.

2 out of 5 stars Ive seen RHCP live and they can do much better than is recorded here.......2007-02-04

This CD definately captures the energy of the audiance but not the quality of a good RHCP show. When you first listen tothis album you will be stunned at how amazing it sounds, but as you listen to it a couple of times you will soon realize some major problems with it. first of all the vocals are really weak and you can barely here them on many of the songs. Second Anthony Kiedis sound almost out of breath half the time, and having seen a concert my self i know that this is not how he really performs. third John Frusciante just wasn't on his game for this show as his harmonies sound pretty bad most of the time and especially on the song californication. Once again having seen the band perform i LOVE John and think that he is an amazing guitarist and vocalist, that being said, this album does him no justice. I think that the 2 songs really worth listening to on this CD are Leverage Of Space, and Rolling Sly Stone other than these 2 the concert is mediocer for such an amazing band as RHCP! if you want an example of an AMAZING Chili Peppers concert Live ant Slane Castle is definatly worth your time

3 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars-- late-period-heavy live album........2006-12-21

"Live in Hyde Park" is the first live record released by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, although for whatever reason it was never distributed in the United States (import copies, such as this one, however, are readily available). The show does a pretty good job capturing the live energy and atmosphere of the Chili Peppers live show, but before talking about the good, I'll talk a bit about what's been perceived as the bad about the show.

The first, and most glaringly obvious thing, is the show's reliance solely on new material-- the band performs 20 originals-- no less than 15 of them come from "Californication" (9) and "By the Way" (6), with a pair of new-at-the-time songs that are as-yet unreleased as studio recordings and one piece from the "Greatest Hits" album. In short, there's only a pair of songs from "Blood Sugar Sex Magick" and the rest of the band's catalog is completely unrepresented. I suppose the real final result is that this is what was played by the band at the show, and the choice was to either break up the live energy and integrity of the show by compiling it from a number of performances or just go with it as is.

Other complaints have to do usually with the performance and the sound. As to the former, it's a decent enough show-- the Chili Peppers are, regardless of how cooled out their music gets, an energy band, even live, but vocalist Anthony Kiedis has shifted himself away from the rap styles of the early records to more singing on the later ones-- when he reverts to his earlier styles, he tends to sound a bit clumsy and forced ("Give it Away"). This is a pretty small point however, the other criticism of the performance that's easy to make is that the sound tends to be kind of thin-- this is no doubt a result of a lack of overdubs that the band leaned on in the studio for "Californication" and (particularly) "By the Way"-- this means a number of pieces have substantially more stripped down arrangements ("By the Way"). It's not bad, it's definitely different though, but given the choice between somewhat stripped back arrangements or the Peppers touring with an entourage of supporting musicians, I'd go with the former. As far as the sound of the record goes, it's not quite up to snuff with some of the live albums released in the past few years-- I can't quite put my finger on it, but the record doesn't seem to have quite the crispness that live records tend to have these days. It's definitely well recorded, but it sounds like someone went out of their way to give it a natural feel-- this means it's not flawless in its sound, but it ends up with a charm all of its own.

The performance itself-- like I mentioned, the Chili Peppers are an energy band live-- they tend to excel best when they push tempos and dig deep, which they do pretty much everywhere. I found listening to this that a number of pieces I didn't care for on the albums came off quite well ("Easily") and also noted that cleverness in (re)arrangement was of serious benefit to a number of pieces (tagging Joy Division's "Transmission" to the front of explosive "Right on Time", the great coda on "By the Way" that adds a moody swirl to the piece). And while it ends up being an enjoyable listen throughout, one thing I will say is that it's not something I come back to very much, and I think in a way this is the sharpest criticism I can offer-- when I think of the Chili Peppers, I don't think "Live in Hyde Park".

Worth having? For fans, definitely, for the more casual types, stick to the studio records.

5 out of 5 stars Live Chilies- Shock and Awe........2006-05-27

Note for note, the songs on this collection are the same songs you can buy which are availible on the studio releases, but the live tracks contain a level of energy that is not retained via a studio recording.

Buy this album because you want to rock and roll harder than you could rock or roll by simply listening to the studio albums.

I love the Chili's songs, and these live renditions of the same songs are off the hook; they are surprising, spontaneous, and they will cause shock and awe.

3 out of 5 stars Im really sorry guys.......2006-04-14

I love the peppers more then the next guy, but i don't like this album that much.

I got slane and watched it over and over again and loved it. So this was a no brainer to pick up. I got it and liked it at first, untill the sound quality got to me. The guitar sounds fuzzy, the drums don't sound right, and the bass isn't mixed well at all. Its now hard to listen to, because the production is very week.

My vocal adivice for Anthony in this, is that he is in Key enough of the time, but hold the notes all the way through. He tends to sign like hes out of breath the whole entire show.

I recomend slane over this, and I can't wait to see them live for the SA tour!!

5 out of 5 stars What a Zephyr to Fly Away on... .......2006-01-10

By far one of the greatest live albums by any band of all time. Amazing guitar interludes, Bass/Guitar duets, vocals, all excellent. Even includes an amazing Drum medley with a round of "We Will Rock You".

All of the classics from Can't Stop, Around the World, Scar Tissue, and Otherside to Throw Away Your Television, Zephyr Song, Californication, and Under the Bridge.

Introduces new songs "I Feel Love" , "Brandy", and "Leverage of Space"

Overall...Musical Perfection on a CD.

Admiration to the Red Hot Chili Peppers,

The tunes in John Playford's The English Dancing Master have been recorded frequently and are a staple in English country dance circles. Jeremy Barlow and the Broadside Band present here some of the best renditions of these tunes that are currently available on CD. I strongly recommmed this CD for anyone interested in Renaissance music, country dance music, or just plain ole' fun music.
