Alamantra is a three piece band hailing from the Magic City. They are extremely versatile and eclectic in their approach, preferring inspired, impulsive and creative musical adventures over the cheap, formula oriented 'material' that is created for mass consumption by 'the industry'. Their music is moody and insightful, with each project being distinctly different from the last. Featuring a catalog of over 200 original songs, their music touches upon just about every conceivable genre: Old School Punk, Psychedelia, Hard Rock, Jazz, Folk, Country, Blues and plain ol' sonic improvisation.
Product Description
"Listening to their new disc, Alamantra: 2004, I'm actually reminded a lot of Blue Oyster Cult, sans the cowbell. Well, maybe Blue Oyster Cult meets the Dead Kennedys, with an undercurrent of art-rock to keep you off balance. All of which is to say that there's some short, catchy songs on the disc, delivered with a lot of raw energy and occasional bits of flashy instrumentalism.
While I'm at the game of pigeonholing, I'll go ahead and mention that there's a whole lot going on underneath the basic structure here-- careful listening reveals influences from jazz and blues to psychedelia and avant-garde experimentation.
It's not an easy listen -- don't expect the familiarity of a Blink 182 or Sum 41 album -- but it is a potentially rewarding one." Kenn McCracken writing for Birmingham Weekly Magazine (March 25 - April 1, 2004) p. 23
