Album Description

This Chicago-based quintet marks a return to great rock 'n' roll songwriting that puts a smile on your face the minute you hit play. There's a reason why a band like the Eagles and albums like John Mellencamp's "Scarecrow", REM's "Life's Rich Pageant", and Hootie & The Blowfish's "Cracked Rear View" afffected the hearts and minds of America. Hello Dave rekindles the classic American rock sound.

Album Description

Austin's Endochine balances accessible melodicism along a cutting edge with inspirational cues from an eclectic mix of music pioneers both old and new. They may be the perfect embodiment of modern rock. Thanks to heavy touring over the last couple of years, solid radio, and fantastic press reviews, Endochine has spread its well-deserved buzz across the U.S.

5 out of 5 stars Like No Other Band.......2005-02-09

What words can be used to describe endochine? There are the general terms applied so frequently to favorite bands: great, meaningful, unique.. but how many bands that are called "great" or "meaningful" or "unique" actually are? Very, very few. And yet, endochine is one of them. And so much more.

The two lead singers/guitarists, Nathan Harlan and Casey McPherson, have individual styles that mix wonderfully in the music. The CD booklet credits Nathan with "monk moanings" and Casey with "la las", and as silly as that sounds-- it's true. Every song is filled out with intense harmonies that drive the music forward-- or allow it to ride along with the guitar. And the guitar..! You have not seen guitar playing until you have watched these boys. And girls- I'll warn you- you may not want to take your boyfriends to their show.. it gets pretty hot.

Not that it's not guy-music, though. I think the best way to describe Endochine is hardcore with a couple of soft-spots and some damn catchy riffs. Their music is music to party to, to be angry to, "to drive and cry to".. and anything but "ennui." (French for boredom, kids.)

Favorite tracks: Secret, A New Beginning, Stalker

5 out of 5 stars Definitely a band to check out.......2005-02-08

Coming out of Austin, Texas, which is well known for its indie rock scene, these guys have much to live up to and break out against. And they do it beautifully. I got into Endochine by going with a friend to one of their concerts and now I can't stop raving about them. Day Two is really one of those albums that you can't put down and that you never get tired of. In fact, the more I listen to it continuously, the more I want to keep on listening to it, I never get sick of it. I am a fan of Incubus, Something Corporate, The Postal Service, Snow Patrol, Jimmy Eat World, etc. and I love this band, but I think really anyone can get into them. If you are seriously yearning for something that gets away from the trite sounds of commercial rock music today and want something that instead reaches the roots of your soul and just fills you will passion from listening to it - turn to Endochine. Their music is so calming, yet so vindicating... they seem to know how to describe every moment in life through their words and their melodies. Check out their site (endochine.com) to preview entire tracks from the album if you are not sure. But, in my experience, I am so entirely glad that I came to know Endochine's music.

5 out of 5 stars Day Two.......2005-01-17

I first heard Austin's Endochine back in 2001, when my brother handed me a bootleg cd he'd recorded at a concert. "You've got to hear these guys," he said. It was true. I've been hearing them ever since. The 2004 release of Day Two is by far the best work I've heard yet. Casey and Nathan sound better than ever, both together and apart; Steven remains rock-solid on bass, and Darrell's overstated drumming of earlier recordings now has perfect control. Other reviewers have compared their sound to Radiohead, Coldplay, the Flaming Lips, U2, and Jeff Buckley, and these comparisons are definitely not without merit. However, Endochine has a unique sound that is all its own. Listening to Day Two, I never felt like I was listening to anyone else.
My standout tracks are "Enough About You", "Ennui (excerpt)", "Music to drive and cry to", and "Can't Find a Way". After you've listened to the samples, buy the cd. Listen to that, too. Then log on to their excellent website and check their tour schedule. The band has toured maniacally the last year or two, and odds are very good that they'll be playing in your hometown, or nearby, soon.

5 out of 5 stars The best of '04.......2005-01-01

Amazing music prevails throughout Endochine's sophomore album Day Two. Casey McPherson and Nathan Harlan's voices are passionate and honest. Endochine delivers their truth, and in hearing so you find some of your own. Day Two communicates the message that you aren't alone. Almost like being so honest and real is a revelation next to the main stream, Clear Channel dominated music world. Many songs on Day Two begin discreetly then comes the crescendo to their powerful, no holds barred music; as does A New Beginning, my favorite song off Day Two. As striking as the c.d. is, the live performance is unparalleled. Giving justice to the music through a review is difficult because the emotions Day Two triggers are vast and it is simply an amazing c.d. The composition of the songs is seamless and there is a strong tie and chemistry around the talent of these four musicians. Comparable with the brilliance of Coldplay along with influences such as The Beatles and Jeff Buckley, Day Two is an album you can't put down and experience you won't soon forget.

5 out of 5 stars A brilliant musical journey.......2004-12-25

This quartette from Austin, Texas has all the makings of a band poised for huge success. Endochine's "Day Two", follow-up to the band's limited-release debut album "I", is truly a fantastic album, and one that you're bound to listen to again and again.

The band has an ever-growing following of devoted fans, driven by their extensive touring and fantastic live show. After giving the album a listen or two, enjoy a riveting performance as these four extremely talented and focused musicians take the stage and deliver lyrics and music with such passion - should you be fortunate enough to catch them in or near your city.
One venture through the album is enough to convince the listener that this one's a keeper - and closer listenings will bring to the forefront the amazing lyrical interplay, and above all, soaring vocal harmonies between the two guitar-wielding front men Casey McPherson and Nathan Harlan - and speaking of guitar, there's plenty of it - blending elements of classic rock and Brit rock with a heavy, yet clear crunch - juxtaposed with lush, clean melodies swimming in delay, guaranteed to send a chill down your back at peak moments in the album.
The album possesses a very epic, yet at the same time very intimate feel. Beautifully written songs such as "Enough About You", "Breadline", "Stalker", and "Better Than That" drive forward with in-your-face guitars, driving basslines and drumlines - while the down-tempo "Secret", "Without Love", the aptly-titled "Music To Drive And Cry To", and the brilliant "Always Tomorrow" showcase the latter, and possess a feel that is at times introspective, at times melancholy, and at times joyful and hopeful.

Listen closely to the message of "Day Two" - let Endochine bring you on an emotional journey with this album, and most definitely make it a part of your record collection - you won't regret it.

Great Up and Coming Band! I have had the pleasure of listening to this CD and seeing the guys perform live, and they are now one of my favorites! They remind me of the St. Louis band The Urge. Live tracks are just a small taste of how great they are in a live show! This is a must have CD that you will enjoy for a long time!
