Still undecided.......2006-02-23

I've had this CD for a while, but I still can't decide if I really like it, or if I'm just still trying hard to like it. I of course still remember (fondly) when these guys went under the name The Gadjits, and made some really fun ska, but there are almost entirely no remnants of their previous incarnation present here (and understandably so, which explains the band name change). But they seemed to be very skilled musicians and interesting songwriters, and I don't limit my interests to ska entirely, so I figure these guys deserve as much chance as any band.

And I almost fell in love with them. Heat Shield is great, and Black Guitar Kalashnikov is even better, along with a few other really solid songs (with the final track really deviating a bit, which was also nice). But it seems like every time I listen to the CD, I get lost in the same sort of sound. They've got a very cohesive album here, but I suppose it seems almost too cohesive, which is a good indicator that subjectively I'm not really that much a fan of their style. But I really enjoy other bands that play this type of music, so that can't entirely be the issue.

But regardless, they're solid musicians and have put together some pretty good music here. If you're looking for any remnants of their former band, then don't bother at all, but if you're a fan of their more straightforward rock style, give it a try - you can probably get it fairly cheaply anyway.

As an aside, though, their next CD, Revenge, I have been thoroughly enjoying. You might be better suited to check out that one first.

great band great CD.......2006-01-23

I saw this band last night in San Antonio and got this CD at the show. It is an awesome band. They played with four other bands and they were last and were worth it. They played 3 or 4 songs from this CD. I was able to hang out with the band before the show and after. It was fabulous. I recommend anyone to buy this CD and get their new one that comes out in Feb 2005!!!!

Album Description

This is dark instrumental surf music. Reminiscent of classic surf artists, Dick Dale & the Del-Tones and The Ventures but with a darker modern twist. Murder On Beaver Street shifts between different styles within the surf genre. For example, the fast picking style of Dick Dale, the spaghetti western feel of Ennio Morricone, and the primitive rock and roll style of Link Wray.

Pay No Attention To The Song Titles!.......2005-09-03

Overall this is well-played instrumental surf music of a gentle nature. I have no idea where the group came up with song titles like "The Mummy's Curse," "Shallow Grave," or "Death, Death, Death." There is nothing eerie or ominous about any of it. In fact this CD could be played in the background of a quiet get-together with friends and set a very nice ambience. It is worth owning but don't buy it expecting music in the "horror surf" genre.

This CD is great. If you are looking for a different type of music other than the same old pop music out these days, pick up this CD!!! You can feel the soul in the instruments these guys play and you WILL be caught dancing or jumping around!!! This is the best surf I have heard!!!

Worth the wait!?.......2002-08-22

OK, about the album...This is definitly the 80's!
If you're a BOA firsts albums lover, this one might not be the right one for you.
It is much more heavy metal(ish), lots of synths-although some productions from the 80's contain a lot more.
Thank God, no synth drums or guitars are used here.
The songs are good, no awful ballads, the guitars really have that 80's heavy sound but on the whole some of the BOA spirit is kept alive.
So, this might not be the first BOA's album you wanna buy-get yourself the first one, HIGH ON THE HOG or RAUNCH AND ROLL if you're not familiar with BOA; but it sure sounds better than Black Oak's RACE WITH THE DEVIL or I'D RATHER BE SAILING and without a doubt A MILLION TIMES BETTER than the horrible WILD BUNCH(what a disgrace to BOA and TOMMY BOLIN!!!!!!!).

So yes, finally I'm glad I waited and didn't cancel my order...

I bought this cd about a 2 months ago and I loved them I fell in love w/ the cocky antics of thier lead singer Brynn and it was even more unbeleiveable when I saw them live ecspecialy when Brynn Played AC/DC's Back in Black by himself on his guitar and the drums at the same time it was unbeleiveable this band live is unbeleiveable I loved the CD so much It is an Awesome Cd and by me it is Very very Recomended.

Definetly the party record of the year for me. This record doesn't exactly reinvent the wheel, but it sure reminds you why you need to roll! I love every sonic moment on this future classic rock record. My faves... Zoom, LaDeDa, Rockstar & Potato Head (a great stoner track for headphones) I can't wait for a live CD. Anyway, it's a big step up from their 1st CD. (Which I still play!) Sooo, keep it up boys... We love you in Kansas City! I saw you by accident at Woodstock too. Great memories!

I've been waiting a long time for this record and the wait was well worth it. It rocks to the point of pure euphoria. Every song is another world of sonic wonder. My personal favorites, "Zoom" "Ultra-Cool" "Rockstar" "La De Da" Anyone who holds the true spirit of rock-n-roll will love this one. It's the pick me up record of the year. If I'm ever in a bad mood it brings me back where I need to be. Can't wait to see Flipp live. I've heard stories and I just can't wait. THANKS FLIPP I NEEDED THAT.

These CDs have a great mix of bands that supply a long and fun new listen for most anyone that hasn't heard all of these bands less known songs. Not to say that these songs are at all bad though a definite good buy ;)
