Sounds like a cheap plastic toy.......2007-06-20

I have these DVD's and I can tell you that they will not be a huge part of my baby's development. I received them as a gift from someone that thinks that all you need to do is plunk your child in front of a TV all day without giving the baby any attention. You can see why these DVD's are popular at Day Care Centers or what I like to call, "Concentration camps for baby's with lazy parents", because they know that they can sit their kid/baby in front of the TV and let them turn into a thoughtless zombie while they listen to Baby Einstein totally ruin classics by Bach and DeBussy by playing the music with very cheap midi keyboards. I can get better quality music by whistling Dixie with a mouth-full of saltine crackers.

Also, it has been proven that classical music has nothing to do with the cognitive development of young people. Now, teach them how to play piano or violin and you have yourself an actual YOUNG EINSTEIN, but listening to this kind of music does nothing for the development of the brain. It is just for lazy parents that can't sit down with their kids and play with them or read them a book.

its a good product with very fine music and my toddler realizes that it is sleep time, if I play it. he goes to bed and sleeps after a couple songs. I have trouble in some songs are some months.. dont know why.

Kid's Music.......2007-06-08

I bought this CD for my grandniece, but after listening to it, I determined that no one would ever play this for her except me. I would have kept it for myself but I have the grown-up versions of each of the classical masterpieces on this CD. So, I ended up returning it for a full refund. If you want your kids to be exposed to classicl music, it's a great buy. But if you don't think they will get to listen to it, don't waste your time.

Baby Einstein: Lullaby Classics

Not soothing.......2007-06-07

These synthesizer versions of classical songs get really old, really fast. Worse yet, the songs are sometimes not soothing at all, especially the very first song. The song seems to get particularly loud and uptempo, which is precisely what you don't expect in a lullaby. Please listen to the sample of the first song at least before you buy.

Great for bedtime, but wish it were a real piano.......2007-06-01

This CD worked great to put my daughter to sleep while I rocked her in my arms, and I enjoyed the choices of songs and the arrangements. However, I would have preferred that real instruments were used.

I bought this one for my son since he was 2. We listen to it from time to time. Now at 3-1/2 he recognizes the music and melody. We dance, sing, and play with his toys or little instrument. We loves every songs especially Can Can, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, and Hungarian Rhapsody #2 which is also in "Cat Concerto" Tom & Jerry. It is a great way for every kids & parents to enjoy classical music. Thanks for making this CD happened.

This CD is a must for every child. It is so important for children to appreciate the great composers. This CD is a wonderful introduction and a fun way for children to learn the facts and names to go along with the tunes. The selection of pieces for this disk are also wonderful. It is nice that the songs are also to where you can listen to them without the lyrics. My children love it and my husband loves to hear just the music (& he is more of a oldies rock n roll & country music man).

We originally received Beethoven's wig from a friend. My two year old and eight year old loved it so much that I had to buy #2 from www.amazon.com and got the third one used on www.ebay.com. Now I have them all on a playlist on my Ipod, and we play them non-stop in the car, and at home. (putting all three on my Ipod makes it more bearable since it is not always the same songs). Too bad www.Itunes.com hasn't caught on yet.

The best part was when my daughter told her Music Camp teacher, " Tchaikovsky is my favorite composer!" I thought she was going to faint.

Truly fun AND educational.......2007-06-01

We play this probably once a day in our home and my kids (one is almost 5, and 2 yr old twins) all enjoy it! Definitely appealing to kids, but also not offensive to the adult ear. I even find myself humming the words when I hear these classical pieces at other times of the day. I recommend for any household with small kids - it introduces classical music in a very fun, upbeat way.

My kids' hands-down favorite classical CD.......2007-05-18

My kids take piano lessons, and I was hoping that listening to classical music would help them enjoy their lessons a bit more, since many of their lesson pieces are variations of classical melodies, and, for whatever reason, they don't naturally enjoy classical music.

I had heard rave reviews about the Classical Kids series of CDs (where a story is set to a composer's music), and, while my children enjoyed them, they didn't really want to hear the stories repeatedly, so the melodies didn't stick.

We got this CD from the library, and the minute they heard the first line of this CD, they were in hysterics. They just LOVED the silly lyrics, and they've listened to the CD repeatedly. They begged me to buy our own copy and to get the 2nd and 3rd CDs in this series. They ask questions about the music and the lyrics, trying to figure out what play on words and reality the creator of the CD was thinking about. They remember the music and who composed it. And they are much more interested in playing the pieces they know on the piano!

So, for our purposes, this CD has been perfect.

And yes, I put my money where my mouth is and purchased all three CDs in this set :) This one is still our favorite.

I found this to be a nice collection of favorites, especially to keep in the car and listen to. It is a variety of well known compilations. Although not encompassing, it is perfect as a review for driving, relaxing, and enjoyment. Plus, the price is right!

[...] Honestly, it isn't THAT THAT great, but its good enough for its price. I'd say that your $ pays off, for a while. I've noticed how after a long time, it gets aggrivating at times. No harm meant, "Beethoven lover". I just mean don't plunge into this cd with all the hopes in the world. Besides, it's just my opinion, so you may like it more than me. All i can say is; a) listen to some samples before you buy, b)know this is not REALLY the great Beethoven himself, and c) enjoy YOUR music, whatever it may be.

This a great priced cd, but the content is why it is so cheap. It's a true-amateur album. Beethoven Lover is over her/his head. This is the real world, not a fantasy-everyone-likes-every-type-of-music world. Deal with it and agree with me. It isn't so great.

All my favorites. I can start the CD player, which is wired to speakers in every room of my house, and just let it play, along with "The Most Relaxing Classical Music in the World" and "The Most Relaxing Classical Guitar in the World." I enjoy an awareness of familiar and beautiful strains of my favorites all day long and never get tired of it.

My brother visited me recently and noticed it right away. That will be another order for this fabulour music.

I was not really a classical music fan but I am now. I purchased this cd for my 14 year old grand-daughter, not knowing we would both enjoy the music so much. She has always enjoyed classical music along with all of the other teen music, rap, rock, country, etc.
Also, it really helped being able to listen to parts of the music before purchasing.

The reason I made this purchase however, was because I have a great deal of difficulty with anxiety and I was looking for ways to find help. I love these CDs. This album was a "try and see" purchase but I love it. It makes great dinner music, great music to drift off to sleep with, or just nice background filler during social events needing a softer tone. It is not all solo piano music if that s what you are after; the other instruments blend very well however and don't challenge the piano playing. It is a piano album after all!

I simply love piano music. If you're looking to relax, enjoy a peaceful time, then you must check out this album. If you truly enjoy piano music, this album is by far one of the best you can purchase.

As it says....it is the "Most Relaxing Piano Album in the World...Ever..." Well, I haven't listened to all piano albums in the world, but I don't need to, this one is just perfect for me, and I think you will agree!

I would say the pianists' are extremely accomplished. At times, I would admit-it's a bit 'spine tingling'!

This album reminds me of that fresh breath of artistic creativity Mary Chapin Carpenter brought to the music world those some years ago. And the Watson Twins - what beauties and with such great vocals. Like all music, the beauty is in the ear of the beholder (so to speak), and I really like this album. Especially the harmonizing provided by (I believe) the Watson Twins. Did I tell you they were beautiful? And have beautiful voices?

This CD provides some interesting stories set to unique music and vocalizations. With harmonizing provided by the Watson Twins. I close my eyes and think of them both. All three. I like it.

Great album altogether. Honestly, her version of "Handle me with care" blows away the original, even though it does contain vocals from that over-rated emo whiner, Ben Gibbard. At least Jenny's voice is better than Tom Petty's!

I really like Rilo Kiley so I was interested to listen to this Jenny Lewis solo effort. But being a fan of Rilo Kiley definitely won't guarantee that you'll enjoy this album.

It's a lot more twangy and folksy than Rilo Kiley which appeals more to the college radio crowd but I must admit that I play this record more often than "More Adventurous" which is an album I adore; "Rabbit Fur Coat" just strikes me as being more original and better realized.

Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins have managed to record one of the most memorable albums of 2006. I'm not alone in this assessment. NPR did a list of the best albums of '06 and this, not surprisingly, was on it.

Better as a solo artist?.......2007-02-12

Rilo Kiley is a great band, there's no doubt. But Jenny Lewis has done something with this solo project that, to my estimation, is in a different league. It's folksy, it's catchy... the songs just get stuck in your head. Her voice is the best feature of Rilo Kiley anyway, but it seems that with this project, she's really bloomed. She seems almost weepy on songs like "Happy" and "Melt Your Heart," but the strength of great stuff like "The Big Guns" and "You Are What you Love" that will keep you coming back for more. A good balance across the board, not too much of any one thing.

One of the first things I bought for my infant daughter was a collection of the Baby Einstein cd's, and I'm so glad I did! My girl just loves to listen and brightens up everytime the orchestra tunes up at the start of the cd. It is simplified, so not as thrilling for mom, but no real complaints... It certainly beats the Wiggles.

This CD is just ok. I like the "Baby Needs..." collection much better. The music in this CD is nice, but some of it is fast paced and does not work well to listen to during nap time. My son seems to enjoy it, though. It is nice for playtime.

Ugh! Glorified Music-Box Music.......2005-12-04

My husband and I are fans of classical music with a substantial CD collection. When we found out we were pregnant, I picked up the Baby Beethoven CD from my local library to see what it was like.

It's glorified music box music... some of the pieces are almost impossible to distinguish without checking the jewel case for the name.

If you really want to expose your child to Beethoven, don't waste your time with this CD. For soothing sleepy-time music, try "Beethoven at Bedtime."

A Classy Classical CD.......2005-04-15

Classical music makes your baby smart? Who cares what the "experts" say? As a mom, I judge any children's music CD by how often my kids ask to hear it. And Baby Beethoven CD gets two tiny thumbs up! My 5-year-old daughter has enjoyed this music since she was small (we also own the VHS tape). Now her younger sisters love it, too. The play list of 19 selections ranges from soothing symphonies, such as Symphony No. 6 in F major ("Pastoral"), to lively sonatas, like the Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor ("Pathétique") that inspire my girls to leap and twirl across the room. And that makes this CD a smart buy.

Music to my ears!.......2007-04-04

I bought this CD as a "treat" for my 16 year old son, who has just finished a homeschool music course for one of his electives. The last part of the course required listening to music from all the great composers, Baroque through contemporary periods, and identifying the more famous pieces by name and composer. He not only enjoyed the course, he now actually listens to this CD for his own enjoyment (when he's not playing 80's rock). What more could a mother ask for? (I'll tell you. I ask him to borrow it, it's lovely.)

Legend!.......2006-10-11

This is the greatest compilation of recordings ever made by the legendary pianist Van Cliburn. Although I am a cellist, I wear this cd out on a regular basis both at the office and home. I actually have an extra copy to play at the office. All of these recordings are superb in sound quality, performance and incredibly inspiring. The Schumann, Chopin, Rachmaninoff and Liszt pieces are stellar and my personal favorites. I only wish there were dvd's with Cliburn's performances for those of us too young to have seen him perform live. CD is a must-have for any classical music lover's collection.

Probably the Best Piano CD ever!.......2006-04-13

If you like Piano music, this is the CD for you. Van Cliburn is at home with great songs that anyone will recognize. It is a masterfully performed set of songs for anyone.

BRILLIANT!.......2004-12-01

usually i don't listen to classical music that much.. i'm 14! but i really enjoy piano so when i saw this music i started to listen to it and i cant beleive how fantastic it is! It is a must have for piano lovers, because the mood of the music varies so much that there is something to suit every mood! My personal favourite is track 2 i can't stop listening to it! I really recommend this cd it is so good.

This is a remarkable release, both for its beauty and its novelty at programming. Für Alina is a two-minute solo piano piece composed by Pärt in l976 that ushered in his "tintinnabuli" style, that is, the bell-like, simple, no-notes-wasted method for which he has become beloved and famous. On this CD, pianist Alexander Malter plays it twice, as the second and fourth tracks; each iteration takes almost 11 minutes (Pärt assumed it would be embellished, and he chose this pair for the CD). There are minute variations in tempo, emphasis, and rubato from one to the other, but, all that being said, it amounts to 22 minutes of the most beautiful, contemplative music ever performed. Almost equally gentle is Spiegel im Spiegel, played as tracks 1, 3 and 5 and scored for piano and, respectively, violin, cello, and then violin again. The instruments mirror one another (Spiegel is German for mirror), with notes added to the scale with each repetition, and so on. Almost impossible to describe in its loveliness, each of the three sets is beautiful; the cello in track 3 gives it extra mellowness. This is music staggering in its simple complexity and a treat for the ear and heart. --Robert Levine

The ECM disc ALINA contains two works by Estonian composer Arvo Part performed by four outstanding musicians under the direction of the man himself.

Arvo Part is best known for the style he embarked upon in the mid-1970s after a long and conspicious silence, leaving behind the serialism and college efforts of his younger days. This style is called "tintinnabuli" by the composer for its bell-like tones, and in the press it has often gained the title "holy minimalism" for its back-to-basics approach and often explicitly Orthodox Christian message.

Well, Part fans will find the music here somewhat different than the standouts of Part's mature style, such as the epic "Passio", stunning "Tabula Rasa", and his liturgical masterpiece "Kanon Pokajanen". The two early tintinnabuli pieces here bear no explict Christian programme, and they are stripped to a scale more bare than even the fairly simple works of the years to come.

"Fur Alina" (1976) was the first effort in tintinnabuli, a two-minute score launching an improvisation that could go on for hours, based on two voices related through triadic harmony and often compared to plainchant. Part selected two selections from it for this disc, and Alexander Malter performs here. There's not much in the way of set rhythm here. Instead the notes of the piano similar come one after another, with the piano's rich array of overtones exploited to the fullest. When the pianist stops, the reverberations of the strings continue to send forth such a strong sound, an effect Part was later to explore in his clever "Cantus" in memory of Benjamin Britten.

"Spiegel im Spiegel" (Mirror in Mirror, 1978) is present here in three different recordings. The first and third are of the arrangement for violin and piano, performed by the duo of Vladimir Spivakov and Sergei Bezrodny. The middle recording is for cello and piano with Dietmar Schwalke performing with Alexander Malter. In this extremely elegant piece, the piano keeps a constant cadence against which the string instrument sweeps. The result hints at something immensely spiritual, like seeing two lovers gaze into each other's eyes. Part was later to shake up this joining of loving voices with the faster-moving "Fratres" piece, arranged for a number of different instruments over the years, but this contemplative early effort has a beautiful clarity.

This is music that offers emotional impact more than telling us something we didn't know before. As a result, it's not good for frequent listening, as one can tire of the threadbare textures. And, I've got to admit, the lack of an explicitly religious programme is worrying, because religious music that cannot communicate a clear orthodoxy and leave no room for differing opinions just ends up undoing itself. However, for commited Part fans--or even people just looking for the ultimate in contemplative music--this is a disc very much worth encountering and taking down from the shelf from time to time. Those looking for more representative Part works, however, would do well to seek out Passio and Tabula Rasa, also on ECM.

My partner put me on to this CD. It's the most beautiful music I've ever heard. Deceptively simple, profoundly moving.

What an amazing person this composer must have been...to be able to create something so magical and beautiful - such a gift. Especially nowadays when there seems to be so few truly valuable contributions to the world of music.

Profound simplicity.......2006-08-31

Just like writing a short letter is harder than writing a long letter, so it is with music. I hate 90 percent of "New Age" music a la Steve Halperin because it is lazy composition, as if playing fewer notes and holding them longer or repeating phrases endlessly is enough to create profundity. On the other hand, we have this in its deep, deep simplicity, each note purposeful and so well thought out. For example in Spiegel im Spiegel, at one point in what is a sweet undulating melody are these little staccato high notes that are almost jarring in their abruptness and yet delightful, as if to wake you up and listen. Another composer would have just kept the same flow unalteringly, good, versus inspiring.

Fǖr Alina, a love song........2006-03-15

You sit in a darkened room looking into a garden. There is no moon.

A single disembodied note sounds, and in the ambient light you see a piano. There is a repeated triad that you think is the opening of Moonlight Sonata, but it's not. It is a simple right-handed exercise, lovely in its repetition, a practiced, careful rhythm.

From a shadow in the drapes, a violin begins a pair of notes, one simple bow stroke, down and up, listening, enjoying its resonance, perfecting its tone.

As if they were unaware of each other, piano and violin continue with parts accidentally overlaid. Long slow notes by the violin are a wistful melody, the finger exercise a cautious metronome.

This is crushingly intimate music. We have stumbled into a sacred moment. When the left hand strikes a lower key, it is as if a third musician has entered the room and with a simple, ominous single note, has taken the percussive role from the right hand. But the right continues and our attention is drawn again to its simple melody. There is that repeating triad. The cycle begins again.

This is Fǖr Alina. It is so lovely, so innocent and so unspoilt, we can only cry upon first hearing. It is unimaginable Pärt did not intend Fǖr Alina to be compared with Fǖr Elise. With this CD, Fǖr Alina, like other elegant simplistes, is poised to be trivialized. Mark my words, the day will come, and soon, when some barbarian will use it in a ring tone. But this is strong music, strong enough to outlast mere popularity. One day it will make you cry again.

Still, I sort of hope no one will buy it.

So tragically beautiful........2006-02-11

I had purchased this CD for the track Alina - my sister's name is Alina and I was looking at learning this piece. What beauty. It's in this music, not the passion of Chopin or the violence of Prokofiev, that I can express my inner torment, my personal struggles.

As for the Spiegel, for some reason when I listen to the violin on the first track, I cry. Every time. Sometimes uncontrollably. I can't describe the effect this music has on me - that wierd feeling of satisfaction and regret at the same time. When I hear that soaring piano accompaniment and the rising violin, I can reminisce back on my life, good times and bad. It's absolutely sublime.

Life can be wonderful and simple, and this music demonstrates exactly that.

This is by far the best CD in the Baby Einstein collection--it will put your toddler in hyperactive playful mode and exhaust you as you try to keep up. But for today's overweight, tv- and game- addicted children, this is great!

This CD is a lot of fun. The music is bubbly and upbeat and makes you want to get up and dance or just jump around. It's a great way to spend some play time with your kids. And the classical music exposure is a bonus.

Synthesized dreck.......2005-08-13

Why did the producers use synthesizers for this music? It's awful. It's possible to hook kids on classical music using the actual instruments written for it - that's how I got hooked. That's what Mel Blanc and Disney did in their cartoons, Bugs Bunny and Fantasia. I do NOT recommend this CD to anyone. It was a shower gift. If you are not familiar with classical music, then I recommend "Baby Needs Beethoven", which is a collection of music using real instruments (albeit shortened - no full length symphonies here).
