5 out of 5 stars If I could only choose infinity for the stars!.......2006-03-17

This cd is awsome! I can listen to it over and over, never tiring of it. How many cds can a person really say that about? Spectacular music, great voices, neat lyrics-it is a must have! I felt an immediate passion for Pepe and The Bottle Blondes, the same passion that I feel for Pink Martini, and that is truly saying something!

5 out of 5 stars Great Fun!.......2006-03-13

I absolutely love this album! I stumbled across it while searching music on Pink Martini (another great group) and after previewing its songs, had to order it. If you're new to latin music this is a great CD to start with because it's going to get you hooked. And if you already have an appreciation for latin/salsa music then you're definitely going to want to add this to your collection. I could listen to it over and over again. It's very happy music that makes you want to get up and dance. Perfect for dinner parties!

5 out of 5 stars Enjoy the CD.......2006-01-31

A great CD, fun to listen to. Enjoyed by even our more conservative as well as our kids. Just a hoot.

5 out of 5 stars Makes Ya Wanna Shake It!.......2006-01-14

This is perhaps the most FUN I've ever heard on a CD! This CD is fantastic! Every single person that has heard it (through me) has purchased it and now they are turning everyone else onto it as well! If you ever thought of dance lessons, this will do the trick to get you out there! All ages and all types of people LOVE this CD! I just ordered their new CD and cannot wait to receive it! Who said that Pepe does not compare to Pink Martini? They are two different sounds and one should not compare the two.

5 out of 5 stars Even more fun in person..........2005-11-15

This group tours in the Pacific Nortwest, and I've had the chance to see them a couple of times... they are so much fun! Very campy and a little over the top and always fun, and the music is just great. This CD is a great sampling of their talent and their enthusiam for the music, and it's right up there with my favorites, which do include Pink Martini. But to that moron who said in his review that they don't compare to Pink Martini... phhffttt! That's like comparing the B-52s to U2... No, they aren't quite the same class of musicians and vocalists, but what they lack in style they more than make up in heart and just plain fun.

This new version of the Fiddler on the Roof soundtrack coincides with the movie's 30th anniversary (which is also celebrated by a special edition DVD). The CD is notable for several instrumental tracks by John Williams, as well as for "Any Day Now," a previously unreleased song performed by Perchik/Paul Michael Glaser (better known for his starring role in TV's Starsky and Hutch). The soundtrack is often compared unfavorably with the original 1964 cast album, in which Zero Mostel played the part of Tevye (here performed by Topol, who had been in the 1967 London production). But this CD has a lot going for it, including glossy remastering and, of course, Isaac Stern as the fiddler. In the end, whatever version you decide to pick up, Fiddler remains one of the most enduring musicals of all time. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

5 out of 5 stars Topol is best as the Papa.......2007-07-15

I have other versions of CDs of "The Fiddler of the Roof" but Topol is the best and this is one of the best CDs with Topol. As far as "The Fiddler On the Roof" goes, that is a thumbs up 5 star anytime story and songs.

5 out of 5 stars Love it.......2007-05-16

I had looked everywhere for this CD. I am so happy to have found the "real" Fiddler on the Roof!

5 out of 5 stars CP as Grandmother Tzeitel.......2007-03-30

At first, I thought this musical was weird but then I grew to like it. It has a sad ending but the thems in the movie are really interesting. Life really is like being a fiddler on the roof. In a musical coming up at my school, I am playign the part of Grandmother Tzeitel in Tevye's dream. I am excited to play the part and I think our musical will go very well!

5 out of 5 stars Never Ending Joy!.......2006-11-22

The music from Fiddler on the Roof is exciting, fun, interesting and funny! This CD is mixed with humor, music from different cultures and a wide mix of different songs. Each song is so different that I can listen to it for hours. I was surprised how enjoyable and pleasent it really is. Although...it is easy to get this music stuck in your head!

This soundtrack to the movie features an astonishing array of blues artists from three generations. Recorded during one long night at NYC's Radio City Music Hall on Feb. 7, 2003, the electricity is in the air and on stage. While it may not have been the finest blues show in history, the collection of founding fathers such as David "Honeyboy" Edwards, Buddy Guy, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Larry Johnson, Hubert Sumlin, Solomon Burke, and the ubiquitous B.B. King along with their spiritual offspring (Gregg Allman, John Fogerty, and Steven Tyler) and some usual suspects like Bonnie Raitt, Robert Cray, and Keb' Mo', makes it arguably the most significant blues session ever captured on film.

Beginning acoustic, the double disc builds momentum and volume as we hear the blues mutate to electric and finally hip-hop with Chuck D. exploding on a rap version of John Lee Hooker's "Boom Boom." The crackling house band led by drummer Steve Jordan provides foundation for gritty, roof-raising pieces like the unusual collaboration between former New York Doll David Johansen and guitarist Sumlin on Howlin' Wolf's "Killing Floor." Not all of the film's music is included but there are enough magnificent performances for established blues fans and to entice those first experiencing the genre's abundant riches. --Hal Horowitz

Great to see so many talented artists come together. Awesome music and rhythyms. Also great to listen to while working out!

5 out of 5 stars Great DVD.......2007-03-10

This autobiography of the blues shows the past and the present of a music steeped in African American culture and rich musical history. Legends of the past perform live with the greats of the past decade presenting the musical form at its fullest potential. The movie incorporates benhind the scenes footage and rare clips of blues artist such as Son House, Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson crafting the art of Blues music. Performances like India Ari singing Strange Fruit by Billie Holiday and Guy's rendition of Cant be Satisfied by Muddy Waters, inspire me to watch them over and over again. Lighting in a Bottle is more than just an event; it is a celebration of the life and breath of the music that has inspired countless other genres and has captured the emotion of represion and pentence. Lighting in a body is a journey worth taking.

5 out of 5 stars The perfect CD to Drive too!.......2006-08-19

This CD is the actual performance of the DVD, which I also have and play at least once a week. You can't possibly get bored with this and you won't want to miss one song. However I highly recommend you get the 2 disc companion, so you know the history behind the making of this well produced and presented concert. Abosolutely genius!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Great variety of artists.......2006-08-14

This event certainly had a star studded lineup and there are many highlights with Buddy Guy, Gregg Allman, Warren Haynes. Angelique Kidjo, BB King among the many winning performances. The only negative is a poor rap antiwar piece towards the end that just isn't a celebration of the blues or the many diverse artists that produce the blues. There may be a forum for this but this ain't it! The many highlights drown out this so 4.5 Stars.

4 out of 5 stars If you enjoy the blues, you need this cd.......2006-03-26

Great music, good mix of artists. Could have done without a rapper trying to turn "boom boom" into an anti-war statement.

Milkshake, the duo of Lisa Mathews and Mikel Gehl (alums of the pop/rock act Love Riot), pours heart and soul into Bottle of Sunshine, and kids ages one to six will slurp it up the same way they did Happy Songs, Milkshake's harmony-thick debut. Mathews's pleasant voice (reminiscent of Cowboy Junkies's Margo Timmons' in its sleepy, drifty, peacefulness), and a light acoustic touch earns this act a spot in the cool kids' musicians category. Parents will love Sunshine for its pared-down folk/rock sound, and kids will appreciate a lack of shyness when it comes to getting silly. For parents, some children's records make the drone of a blender seem a preferable listening experience. In the span of two super-smooth discs, Milkshake manages to reverse all that. --Tammy La Gorce

Album Description

Well, true to the phrase "Good things take time," two years after the release of our 2002 debut CD Happy Songs, we present Bottle Of Sunshine. The disc offers fifteen brand new Milkshake originals the whole family can groove to. You'll also find lots of variety here, although most of the songs still live in the rock genre. We recorded "ABC Of Me" live in the studio with a jazz combo. It's a new take on the Alphabet Song, and each letter stands for some quality or thing that reminds us of how great we are, and how wonderful childhood is. "Boom Boom" turned into a country rock song as we added fiddle and banjo and a "yee-haa". There's a doo-wop tinged song about having fun in the water called "Woo-Woo." There are some totally acoustic songs ("Bluebird" and "Milkshake!") and some very electrified, all-out rock songs ("School" and "Space Song"). But every song is memorable. And each one was great fun to record.

British children's author/illustrator Alexis Deacon created the cover art for Bottle of Sunshine, along with illustrations for the 16-page booklet accompanying the CD. Please look for his wonderful children's books "Slow Loris" and "Beegu," both published by Kane Publishers, NY.

Bottle of Sunshine also contains a bonus: three Milkshake music videos of songs from Happy Songs. Two of these, "Fingers & Toes" and "Tall", are fully animated. The third, "Happy Song", is a live action video with some animation sprinkled here and there.

5 out of 5 stars Love this cd!.......2007-07-18

I bought this cd after seeing a Milkshake video on PBS. We have had it over a year and still listen to it every week. It is so full of energy and fun. It makes you want to get up and dance. Adults can even tolerate listening to it in the car. I recently purchased Milkshake's cd "Play!" also, but it is not as enjoyable.

5 out of 5 stars Great.......2007-01-10

I love this CD-my son can listen to it over and over and over again. One of their best!

5 out of 5 stars Wonderfully entertaining .......2007-01-06

From preschoolers to first graders, "Bottle Of Sunshine" will prove a 'kid friendly' favorite with its toe-tapping tunes, hand-clapping rhythms, and sing-along lyrics flawlessly delivered by Milkshake (singer Lisa Mathews and guitarist Mikel Ghel) with their usual flair and easy expertise. The fifteen superbly presented and impressively recorded pieces comprising this outstanding and highly recommended CD album for children include: Bluebird; School; Woo-Woo; Milkshake!; Boom, Boom; ABC of Me; Space Song; Book of Dreams; Jump; Smile; Ms. R&R; Rainy Day; One Wish; Sleepytown; and the title piece, Bottle of Sunshine. This is a wonderfully entertaining and sure to be kid-pleasing addition to any family, preschool, daycare center, elementary school, or community library CD music collection for children. Also highly recommended is Milkshake's other kid's CD, "Play!" which features songs about kids having fun playing baseball, bowling, pretending, playing music, having parades, planting a garden, and more!

5 out of 5 stars Fun... and won't dull your brain........2006-11-05

I purchased this CD for my 18 month old daughter after hearing the ABC song at library storytime. She has some definite favorites and asks for them as soon as we get in the car. The songs are cheerful, clever and fun to dance/sing along with. We recently ordered another copy as a gift for a 5 year old. She LOVES it too!
Highly recommend!

5 out of 5 stars Fun Music Grownups can enjoy with their kids!.......2005-11-16

Not only do my kids love the music, but I do too!! We've seen them live and they're awesome. Lisa has so much energy and dances around in her "tutu" and those "crazy tights" and Mikel is so awesome with the kids. They are talented musicians who make kids music fun for everyone. Watch them on Noggin - Jack's Music Show. The videos are lively and fun! I hope they'll make a DVD of the videos, including the one's on their web site.

Album Description

"Scenesters Pepe & The Bottle Blondes are launching a new album...a spicy mix of Latin, classical, techno and flamenco songs, including a calypso tune about an alien who crash-lands on earth and asks Pepe for help." - WILLAMETTE WEEK

"If you've never seen Pepe & The Bottle Blondes, then you are missing one of the truly best live acts in all of Oregon. This twelve-piece Latin/swing band will have you swaying to their repertoire of tangos, boleros, rumbas, sambas, salsa and many other exciting dance forms." - BEST OF OREGON MUSIC FESTIVAL

Pepe & The Bottle Blondes was created in February 1997 to bring back the "Copacabana" style dinner theater enhanced with the percussion and beat of Latin rhythms. An eclectic ensemble of saxophones, congas, percussion, trumpets and three-part harmonies combine talent and visually arresting performances that echo the indulgence of the 1950s nightclub chic.

Pepe Raphael's piquant pulsations have taken him from Madrid (where he was born) to New York to Portland (where he now lives). Raphael has performed leading roles with Music Theatre of Oregon, the Musical Theatre Company and the Portland Opera. He successfully blends dance, opera and musical theatre with his original songwriting and comedic wit to deliver a fresh and innovative performance.

Nouveau Latin and swing with a humorous twist, Pambrosia is beautifully produced and totally made for dancing. In a time when music is trying to define life, Pepe & The Bottle Blondes want you to get up and shake your booty with songs sung in a variety of languages including French, Spanish, Russian, Caló (Gypsy Spanish) and English.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Is it as good as the first one?.......2006-10-29

Well,

"Latenight Betty" has been an enormous success, and everybody who listened to one or two songs immediately wanted the whole thing. I long waited for a second album and bought it with no delay the minute I saw it was out.

The first song "Outta This World" does hold up with the reputation, being unique, catchy and even funny, but then something happens. You expect to "stay up" but you get mostly empty handed. There are a few pretty nice songs that give you that old flare and grace; "On & On", "Donde Estabas Tu", "Sere serenito", but the others are mostly "okay". I swear one or two sounded like a hotel band.

Talent is not something that "Pepe & the Bottle Blondes" lack. I would definitely be interested in a third album, but I will listen to it before buying next time.

Oded Zohar,
Tel-Aviv.

3 out of 5 stars Great but not stellar.......2006-09-25

Usually when so much time has lasped between releases one would expect more than, well, Pambrosia. It's wonderful in many ways -- great horns, very dancable and Pepes' voice is amazing; flexible, great tone and it's quite obvious he's done his homework. He is an accomplished artist and vocalist and only he could pull off Russian lyrics to a latin beat.

The first cut BOMBS as a list song about an ET. I don't know what is wrong with the first half of the cd but it just beats on and on with little distinction or variety. Most of the cd is over until Donde estabas tu, which is sublime and reminds you what P&TBB can really do. His female backup singers are EXCELLENT.

Everything is fine until the ending when for some reason they decide to take a jewel from the first cd and run it through the remix hades of commericalism. Were they looking for a radio hit? I don't know.

Something that has never been clear to me is the split Pepe made with Pink Martini after Pinks' first cd. I was so disappointed when Tomato came out and there was no Pepe, my god, were they nuts? In my opinion, he was the best thing, vocally, they had going for them other than their classical approach to arrangement. Ms. China is all well and good and serves Pink very well.

Thankfully I discovered Pepe and the Bottle Blondes and discovered where the heart and fun of Pink disappeared to. I think both bands are wonderful for entirely different reasons.

Pepe seems to be the personification of Puck and he seems more than generous in sharing the lime light with his band and back up singers. He's got the soul, the beat and pelvic thrust in his music. My only hope is that he keeps producing music. (ok, maybe 3.5 stars)

5 out of 5 stars Pambrosia Review.......2006-03-13

The music on this album was very danceable and lively, very swayable too. A great follow-up to "Late Night Betty."

5 out of 5 stars A second great album by Pepe & The Bottle Blondes.......2006-01-30

OK so "Pambrosia" came and though long awaited, the album is simply FANTASTIC!
A tough follow up from their first great album Late night Betty. Nicely accomplished. Every track on the CD comes through sounding great, not one song feels neglected. The rhythm, the horns and vocals are awesome Pepe and his entire entourage sound great. I love this CD! Can't wait for the next one.

Imagine for a moment that the survivors of the Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash in 1977 had decided to keep going and had replaced Ronnie Van Zant and Steve Gaines with the Clash's Joe Strummer and Mick Jones. The reborn band would have had it all: redneck country-rock with in-your-face class consciousness and cockney punk-rock with swing and guitar chops. It would have sounded a lot like the BottleRockets on their second album, The Brooklyn Side. When the BottleRockets' chief singer-songwriter Brian Henneman wants to sing about the American class structure, what does he do? He tells jokes about buying a "1000 Dollar Car." "A thousand-dollar car ain't gonna roll," he sings over grinding, Neil Youngish guitar chords, "till you put at least another thousand in the hole/Sink your money in and there you are:/The owner of a two-thousand-dollar thousand-dollar car." --Geoffrey Himes

This album is just fantastic! Every song is soulful, witty, edgy and just plain brilliant. Brian Henneman and The Bottle Rockets are without a doubt the best alt-country band making records today. I cannot say enought good things about this record. BUY THIS CD!!! YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPOINTED!

While listening to this album, I was taken back to the days I listened to Lynard Skynard. I could hear a definite influence. This is a must-buy for fans of the old rock-a-billy style of music.

Kevin Costner, Robin Wright Penn, and Paul Newman star in this romantic tale about a sailor who dispatches love letters to sea in memory of his late wife. Just as the love letters are viewed as among the most touching ever written, the soundtrack is equally sentimental--16 tracks that evoke wistful days spent staring out of windows pining for lost love. Edwin McCain delivers Diane Warren's surprisingly modest "I Could Not Ask for More," a song written specifically for the movie. Sheryl Crow and Sarah McLachlan turn soft and spooky with their whispery "Carolina" and "I Love You," respectively. Sinéad Lohan and Beth Nielsen Chapman backlight their middle-of-the-road sensibilities with dance beats. Hootie & the Blowfish's "Only Lonely" is far closer to country music (Glen Campbell-style) than country artist Faith Hill's "Let Me Let Go." Gabriel Yared contributes the instrumental title track as well as two other pieces of overswelling movie music. Redefines the term mellow. --Rob O'Connor

3 out of 5 stars BEWARE ONE IMPORTANT SONG MISSING - WARNING SPOILER!.......2007-03-01

I have both of the Message in a Bottle cds. They are each filled with wonderful music. Unfortunately my absolute favorite song from the movie, "Beyond the Blue" a duet by EmmyLou Harris and Patty Griffin is NOT on either cd. Beware!

It seems I am forever tracking down an errant song. Oftentimes the song is a critical heartbeat moment of the film - as in this case. Why such an important song is missing confounds me.

If you are considering this cd because you want THAT CRITICAL SONG played during the montage showing Theresa and Garret finding their lives hopeful after years of despair and loneliness, you won't find it on either of the Message in a Bottle cds. You need to add to your cart the soundtrack for the movie, Where the Heart is. That beautiful song also played at the very end of that movie AND THOSE FOLKS had the sense to put it ON THEIR SOUNDTRACK! I have not found it on any of EmmyLou Harris' or Patty Griffin's cds. Maybe it was a licensing thing, I don't know... I don't really care. Just figured I would offer a heads up and a helpful hint!

2 out of 5 stars Sappy & commercial, slick & subpar.......2002-08-19

A couple nice tunes. Overall not worth buying. You won't listen to the entire album more than twice. You won't need too, it ain't worth it.

5 out of 5 stars A PERFECT 10.0.......2002-02-08

If I could give this a perfect 10 rating I would. I loved this CD with it's mixture of beautiful vocals, especially the rarely heard "Carolina" by Sheryl Crow, and instrumentals so much that I purchased the Original Motion Picture Score as soon as it became available and I'd rate that a perfect 10 as well. I never go anywhere without them.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful !!!.......2002-01-11

I happen to buy a lot of Movie Soundtracks and I can say that is one of my all time favorites. Great ensemble better than the movie, in fact I liked it so much more that once I got the soundtrack I appreciated the movie more. There are so many songs on this CD that I can't possibly list them all but I can say that if you enjoy soundtracks that make the movie you will not be dissapointed in this one. I must also mention that the some of the songs are tear jerkers so BEWARE and have your box of kleenex available. Some of the artists are also on "Anywhere but here" and "Pratical Magic"

5 out of 5 stars I Truly Was Sooo Touched by this CD.......2001-12-18

It's a mixture of various artists with 'A Message In A Bottle'. It soothed my Soul to No End. I just Love the emotions one feels when listening to this Touching CD. And Being In Love, I could hardly resist The Inspiration I felt from the Depth of Such Passion. Music can be such a moving experience, something our every day life seems to take away. Emotion. I had to cry when I heard 'One More Time', 'I Love You' and 'Let Me Let Go'. I just couldn't resist the depth it took me and yet Lifted me into Inspiration. Yes All Music has an Appreciation, but this one has 'A Delight To The Senses' that is unbelievable. It's A Must Have. You Could Almost Fly...I think I did ,.) Oh soo Very Touching..buy IT. Your Princess xxO

3 out of 5 stars A MAN OF MANY TALENTS.......2005-09-25

This CD offers some of Jim's greatest love songs. But, why purchase a CD that only limits Jim's talent. His best (CD's) to date is The 50th Anniversary Collection, The Definitive Collection. And if it is ever released on CD The Faces I've Been album would be the icing in any Croce collection. By the way for the record. Jim Croce did not die in a helicopter crash. It was a small plane. Info is from Jim's DVD Have You Heard Jim Croce Live.

I love Jim Croce,But I fill like he never gets the respect now that he got back then. He died the same way the great Stevie Ray Vaughan did, They died in a heliocopter crash,But to me,when croce died, almost everybody forgot about him. I fill like he never got any monuments dedicated to him and what he did in his life.I know that I am probably babbling over nothing, but it just that I love him and his music that changed my life forever.I don't even know how old he was when he died,I don't even know where his heliocopter crashed at or what year!

5 out of 5 stars Another Great Release from a Band that should have never Broken Up.......2007-05-26

I don't go so far as saying it is better than the first album, because that one was perfect, literally. However, this album is very strong as well. The two strongest cuts are by far "Broken Record" (which Roger still does in concerts ) and "Birds Sing" (which I think is as beautiful a song as the Refreshments have made). Roger Clyne is a major talent and his fellow bandmates are pretty damn good to. I suggest both Refreshments albums and all of Roger's new stuff. Great band that should have never broken up!

5 out of 5 stars Its every bit as good as their first album.......2007-02-07

This album is fantastic. Their first record was great too. I dont agree with the people who say that this album isnt as good as their first one, it is probably better actually but theres no use squabbling about that since both records are better than 90% of the other bands out there. I do agree with the people who say that they should have gotten more credit, but talent just isnt needed for mainstream music these days and its a damn shame. Fonder and Blonder, Wanted, Preachers Daughter, Sin Nombre and Buy American are all killer songs, fantastic songwritng, playing and singing-this band is the real deal.

4 out of 5 stars Great Tunes.......2006-02-09

Are these boys from Arizona? Great tunes with a splash of Mexican. When I was mixing some border tunes for a CD it came in handy. Really rocks along and gets you down the road to work with some catchy lyrics and sounds. Looking forward to their next effort. Played some tracks for my buddies and they all seemed to really like it.

3 out of 5 stars Oh, What Could Have Been... .......2005-12-21

This was the piece that completed my collection of the Roger Clyne & Co. oeuvre, as of Dec-05. I'd resisted it for the better part of a decade, after the guy who turned me onto The Refreshments in the first place told me it wasn't worth the effort required to place it in your CD player and press "play."

Well, I can now say that such a criticism was clearly over the top, though I could understand his frustration to an extent. My biggest bitch about this whole effort is that, much unlike FFBB (or any Peacemakers effort), it didn't seem like they had fun making this one, and if they did, they certainly failed to sell me on that. I can just about hear a record company suit breathing down their necks throughout the whole thing. On "Tributary Otis," which for better or worse opens this CD, I imagine someone in the control room asking "Uh, could you make it sound more 'Gin Blossoms-y?'" Listen to that track, and follow it up with "Follow You Down" from GB's "Congratulations I'm Sorry," and there you have it.

Lyrically (a very strong point of FFBB), the highs are high, and the lows low. I find it pretty much laughable to hear a band quote lyrics from their first CD on their second, but they did it on "Fonder & Blonder" - see "Down Together" from FFBB. It makes me think they'd run out of ideas rather quickly.

I find the strong tracks as good as anything RC has put out there (IMHO: "Wanted," "Heaven or the Highway," "Preacher's Daughter," "Broken Record"), and the weaker ones not so much "bad" as, well, completely non-offensive yet equally forgettable music.

Taken out of its context, I believe TB&FH to be a good (though well short of great) collection of fun, rollicking tunes. However, as a follow-up to FFBB, which has held "Desert Island Disc" status to me since its first spin, it's a textbook sophomore letdown.

Thankfully, Roger rocks on with the Peacemakers. I commend their entire catalog to your listening.

5 out of 5 stars Even better than the first.......2005-10-22

This is the second and last album by Tempe, Arizona desert-rockers The Refreshments.
Its sound is noticeably more refined and smoother than the band's first album, but all the good qualities of that album--the fun, the mariachi instrumentation, the high quality lyrics--are all still here, though this album is certainly sadder and more thoughtful.
Like "Fizzy Fuzzy Big & Buzzy," this is a great CD for any road trip through western desert, and it contains great pop/rock songs that certain of us 1990s music-o-philes will have stuck in our heads until we're dead.
I consider both of this band's albums essential for any good modern rock collection, and wish they were still around to make some more. They were getting better with every album, and it's a bummer they're off all doing their own things now--though I hear Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers (the lead vocalist's current band) are pretty good too.

4 out of 5 stars Confusing situation regarding CDs.......2007-03-18

The image shown on Amazon indicates on the CD cover that it is the Orignal Score from the movie. Yet, the item I received from a seller shows the same cover art (on the beach), but the actual contents and even the wording on the cover are "music from and inspired by the motion picture" which obviously is not the original score.
Not quite sure who is to blame for this mix-up. It may be simply a packaging problem. However, I do like this CD, but love more the movie score. I'll be sure to contact a seller before trying to purchase this item again to ensure it is the score and not music inspired by the movie.

5 out of 5 stars Soundtrack was better than the movie.......2004-12-10

And the movie wasn't half bad, either. Gabriel Yared did an outstanding job telling the movie's tale in lyrics. Selection of the artists such as Marc Cohn, Sheryl Crow, Sinead Lohan, and Sarah McLachlan was particularly inspired. The movie is so-so. I don't own it and would not see it again, but I do revisit the soundtrack often. You'll have a much richer experience just listening to the story as the music unfolds.

5 out of 5 stars Lovely................2003-09-20

If you have ever experienced being in love, thought of being in love, where your soul has been touched..this CD is for you! This CD stirs so many memories for me. It also helps me dream of a love that is to come. Yes, I know, I sound corny! I fell in love w. this CD before I've seen the movie. The samples do this CD no justice.....If you like to dream, fantasize, this CD is the one!

5 out of 5 stars Inspired from Brooklyn, NY.......2001-04-10

I had never listened to musical scores, much less purchased one until a friend recommended this one. It is simply the most beautiful CD I have ever heard and it has taken a permanent place in my CD changer. I never grow tired of it and it has prompted me to buy more musical scores.

5 out of 5 stars It is breathtaking!.......2000-08-18

I know Gabriel Yared's score of the Talented Mr. Ripley was nominated for an Academy Award, but I will always think it should have been Message in a Bottle. The music is beautiful, emotional, and captures the thrill and drama of sailing and the ocean. From the very first notes, the music grabs you and doesn't let go. Yared has a timeless winner here!
