Though they would eventually be hailed as nothing short of the birth notice of rock 'n' roll, these seminal recordings--the product of a teenaged Memphis truck driver with virtually no public performance experience--were originally little more than energetic regional country hits that eventually led to a modest national record deal. Elvis Presley's five Sun singles, along with nine additional demos and outtakes from the era, have been meticulously cleansed of the reverb and echo effects added to the later LP versions RCA issued during the singer's meteoric rise to stardom, yielding a restored clarity that may startle even veteran Presley fans. Of course, it's the performances themselves that remain indelible benchmarks of modern American music, a fusion of R&B, C&W, Tin Pan Alley pop, and irrepressible ambition that seemed wholly formed even on the first single's pairing of the Arthur Crudup blues "That's Alright" with a joyously supercharged revamp of Bill Monroe's "Blue Moon of Kentucky." Elvis finding his way.......2007-06-21

It's amazing that Elvis sounded so good during his unpolished Sun Records days. He was just having so much fun with Bill on bass and Scotty on guitar. "That's All Right" will always be a classic and you can really get up and going with "Blue Moon Of Kentucky", "I Don't Care If The Sun Don't Shine", "Milkcow Blues Boogie", "Good Rockin' Tonight" and "Mystery Train".

Then there's the haunting echos of "Blue Moon" and "Tomorrow Night". The sound quality of the old studios just make these songs that much more effective, sending chills down your spine.

Love the bluesy sound of "When It Rains It Really Pours" and the emotion poured into the songs "I Forgot To Remember To Forget" and "Trying To Get To You".

You could tell Elvis was getting his musical feet under him during these experimental years, but you could also see all that greatness that was coming out in these two years worth of songs. The man had the ability and you could tell that potential was spilling out all over the place before making it big with RCA in 1956.

This CD is very good. I have really enjoyed it alot. If you like Elvis at all try Chris Isaak he is also very good ie Best of Chris Isaak, Chris Isaak Christmas.

Awesome Early Elvis.......2007-03-14

If you like Elvis' early recordings, this is the CD for you. The sound quality is excellent and the CD has a good selection of Elvis' early Sun recordings. I especially enjoyed reading the CD insert with memories of Elvis written by Sam Phillips young son.

Wonderful listening to the young Elvis.......2007-03-06

I have had this CD for about a month-and-a-half now and love the quality of the sound; the crispness and clarity of the young Elvis's voice is outstanding! Even though my two kids (ages (almost) 4 and 19 months) have been raised on more mainstream Elvis music, they love this breath of fresh air, this window into Elvis's early (and quite formative) years--even if they don't quite understand the historical aspect of them. My son has even said when I play it, "This Elvis sounds really good, mommy! His voice is much better than white jumpsuit Elvis." Enough said. Highly recommend!

This is a great album for all you Rock-A-Billy fans....the early stuff that is just great rockin' good music!
