Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Everyone I know loves it, and you will too!.......2005-05-16

I first heard Todd's music a few years ago when I saw his band play live at Mercury Lounge. What I initially noticed was his voice--he can yodel like Hank Williams! Then I noticed the songs themselves, which are mostly stories of love gone wrong. The lyrics are great; though some of the words are nostalgic and sad and heart-breaking, there still manages to be a sort of underlying hopefulness and happiness to the songs themselves. He is an amazing songwriter.

Since then, this album has made its way to many members of my family and friends, all of whom love it. It's in heavy rotation in everyone's stereo. If you like old country like Hank Williams and Lefty Frizzell, or alt-country indie rock like the Old 97's, Wilco, and Son Volt, you will like this CD.

3 out of 5 stars Forgettable.......2005-04-17

Initial Impression: My mom would love Todd Deatherage. That's not a bad thing - she doesn't have bad taste in music or anything.

Notable Lyric" "I'm stuck in yesterday, in words that were said," from "Lose Myself."

Factoid: The Todd Deatherage Band has opened for such acts as Rhett Miller, Old 97s, Wilco, Brendan Benson, Slobberbone, and Reverend Horton Heat.

Serve With: A dinner party and have this playing in the background.

Comments: In "Lose Myself" they seem to morph into some old big band or lounge act, wishing themselves Sinatra, which, by the way, they are not. The CD is not bad, just rather forgettable.
