Developed under the guidance of physician Fred Schwartz, the Transitions recordings serve both to enhance the miracle of childbirth and to aid infant sleep. Looking to reduce the stress of parents and infant children, musicians Joe and Burt Wolff worked with Dr. Schwartz to combine digital samples of actual womb sounds, barely discernable female vocals, and the soft wash of other atmospheric sounds. Recommended by childbirth educators and infant-development specialists for its relaxing effect, Transitions has been clinically proven to stimulate the blood oxygen levels of premature infants in critical care. For weary parents on a midnight walkabout to quiet agitated babies, it's a blessing that induces sleep almost magically. --Paige La Grone

4 out of 5 stars Probably best for relatively "happy" babies.......2007-03-10

I bought this CD for my "fussy"/"colicky"/"high needs" newborn who started crying basically all of her waking hours at around two weeks of age. While this CD is very relaxing and was great at putting ME to sleep, it was not great at getting her attention. If your baby is crying and you are looking for a sure thing to calm him/her, I would HIGHLY recommend purchasing "The Happiest Baby on the Block: The New Way to Calm Crying and Help Your Newborn Baby Sleep Longer" (by Harvey Karp) and the companion CD - it has wonderful and unique "white noise" tracks that you can turn up loud in the car or at home and it WORKS!!

5 out of 5 stars great.......2007-03-10

My baby had coloic and every night I would play this, not only did it relax him but me and my dogs. I highly recomend this.

5 out of 5 stars A "must" item for your baby registry.......2007-02-12

We brought this CD and our Bose Wave radio to the hospital and it was a blessing during my recovery from an emergency c-section! It is the most relaxing music that you will ever hear. Whether is soothed my son's transition from the womb to the world, I will never know. My husband and I still listen to it to relax-- I recommend this CD to anyone who has issues falling asleep (ages 0 to 100).

4 out of 5 stars Transitions.......2007-01-12

I loved this very soothing, relaxing music colicky baby settles most times it is played

5 out of 5 stars Hypnotic and sweet - a great pick for nighttime.......2006-09-21

This CD of soft, ambient, aerial sounding music (I personally can't distinguish any female vocalists, although it's possible that what sounds to me like sweet, angel-voice synthesizer music is actually someone singing) is a great one for bedtime and car trips with a fussy infant.

The swoosh-swooshing heartbeat/womb sounds are pleasant and gentle; they are also mixed fairly well with the music so that it doesn't sound overly womb-y or barely womb-y. They are also mostly on one channel, so if you want to increase or decrease the swooshing to taste, and your system allows for it, you can adjust the balance to this end.

I put this one on every night as I nurse my baby down (don't let anyone tell you "never nurse your baby to sleep" - that is what nursing is FOR, like, duh!) and half the time I fall asleep too, just from relaxing to the soothing sounds.

The CD is consistent all the way through - what you hear in the first five minutes is what you're going to hear for the next hour, so no need to worry about "getting into the groove" and then having it totally change on you. But if you ARE looking for something that has several different sounds, or a variety of music, this is probably not the one for you.

I wish I had had this one during labor, too. Highly recommend. (And please don't listen to the reviewer who referenced "Secrets of the Baby Whisperer" - that is an AWFUL book.)

Does any DJ listen to more music than John Digweed? Hard to say, but the fact that Diggers is known to go through all the music he receives, personally, may have something to do with why he has--perhaps wisely--elected to release a single Transitions disc twice a year (instead of the two-disc compilations that seem to be the norm for other DJs). Not only does this give listeners a snapshot of his ever-evolving mixes, it allows him to capitalize on the fact that, as one of the biggest names in the business, he has access to all sorts of exclusives and upfront tracks, such as Guy Gerber's remix of "Dana," a glowing spellbinder that has yet to be released. On its heels comes Antena's portentous "Camino del Sol (Joakim Mix)," which promises an inescapable hook from the first appearance of its chunky synths, itself followed by the ultra-refined shadow play of Williams's "The Shivering (Pitch and Hold in Camera Obscura Remix)." Digweed obviously understands better than anyone that the impact of each track is largely determined by how it relates to all the others. As always, his programming can leave listeners dumbfounded; tracks like David K's off-kilter minimal trip "Boul de Nerf" may lead to some initial head-scratching. But then there is that rule of thumb that never fails with Digweed: "listen again." --Brent Kallmer

Album Description

Following the success of the first in John Digweed's Transitions series, one of the most acclaimed albums of this legendary DJ's career, Digweed returns with the eagerly anticipated second volume. Taking the inspiration from his worldwide sets and globally syndicated radio show, this single disc is full of seamless segues and driving bass lines - a current glimpse of John at his masterful best.

His standing as a world-renowned DJ has enabled him to include several tracks that are exclusively available on this album prior to their full single release. Amongst these are Guy Gerber's atmospheric mix of Chaim EP - `Dana', David K's trippy masterpiece `Boul de Nerf' and two tracks by G-Stylz (aka Bruce Aisher). Digweed has long been a force in the studio, and his production acumen is highlighted here, as he turns in subtle, exclusive edits throughout the album. As with Vol.1, it is his flawless mixing and programming that Digweed brings to this project, creating a mix that offers new interpretations, improving with each listen as it shifts from 124 to a 129 bpm finale across it's 70 minutes.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Sacrifices Groove For Trippiness.......2007-07-08

I had to listen to this album over and over before I felt confident in giving it a fair rating. One of the more difficult albums to write a review on.

In the end, the tracks I really liked on the album and the tracks that I thought were mediocre didn't change a whole lot from my first impression. The set starts off with four good tracks. Track 3, Chaim EP's "Dana" (Guy Gerber Mix) is an excellent track, and my personal favorite on the album. Bonus points for Digweed getting his hands on that one and commercially premiering it on this compilation.

So what's my problem with this album? It starves for a little more groove and a lot less...creepiness! Too many tracks (i.e. track 10, Dirk Technic's "I Love You" (Smallboy Remix)) could easily be background music for some horror/sci-fi B-Movie that was filmed in the 70's or 80's. Yes, this makes the album a hell of lot more trippy, but it is so overly done throughout the entire set that it gets tiresome after awhile.

3.5/5 stars.

5 out of 5 stars Better than Trans Vol 1.......2007-06-06

Yes, go ahead and buy it. Digweed's ahead of Sasha and Deep Dish. Nuf said.

5 out of 5 stars Huh? Quality.......2007-05-26

I don't quite understand some of the negative reviews. It's true that this represents a different style than Transitions Vol. 1, but then that has been true of every mix Digweed has put out. He simply doesn't duplicate earlier styles, so that's why I'm surprised that some people are biting because Vol. 2 is different. The Transitions series is meant to be a reflection of highlights from Digweed's sets over the past six months, and as a result, the track selection is always superb, and thanks to Digweed himself, the mixing and sequencing is excellent too. Personally, I really like the new stuff focusing on material from labels like Cocoon, Buzzin' Fly, and Freak N' Chic. This mix does have a more detached, glitch-styled aspect than previous mixes, so you can certainly take that into account when considering a purchase. However, I wouldn't pass up any of Digweed's mixes, since you won't get this easily accessible, superb view of the dance world from anywhere else.

5 out of 5 stars the ultimate music experience.......2007-05-18

I am buing renaissance production CD'a almost every time when they come out with a new release and 4 this one I have one thing to say excelent music. Start with Mind Games and you will be taken for a "trip around the world". Enjoy

5 out of 5 stars Great CD...But not "cutting edge".......2007-04-30

This is a really good mix, actually the first Digweed mix I have bought since Northern Exposure. The groovy/chunky/minimal tech-house sound is definitely a departure for what I am used to hearing from him. But groundbreaking it is not...this style has been gaining popularity for 5+ years now and has been found in the record boxes of world-known DJ's such as Mauro Picotto and Sven Vath for most of that time. Perhaps for those who have not been deep into EDM for the past 5-10 years, this may seem a bit boring and pointless, I know my non-EDM listening friends didn't really appreciate it. For me, though, it is a welcomed departure from the overproduced progessive house music which dominated the commerical dance CD market during the early to mid 2000s.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely love it!.......2003-08-21

My 10 month old had been sleeping with my husband and I since he was born. I decided it was too dangerous to keep him in there now that he is so mobil, so he had to move into his crib for good. This CD was just what he needed. The sound of a heartbeat interlaced with soft music was the perfect combination to help him feel secure and relaxed.

5 out of 5 stars Not just for soothing babies.......2002-07-24

The first time I listened to this I fell dead asleep on my couch and woke up an hour later feeling like I had slept all night. I bring my CD w/ me during massage sessions. Also great for meditating.

5 out of 5 stars The best musical resource an infant's parents can own........1999-04-18

This and the companion CD will convince even die-hard skeptics that peaceful music combined with the maternal heartbeat as heard in utero create a relaxing environment that will soothe babies and help them sleep longer. We used it with our firstborn for at least a year, and are welcoming our second child with it as well. This is a wonderful gift for new parents. There are many wonderful CD's to help infants sleep. Some contain words, which babies like, such as "Daddies Sing Good Bedtime". Carol Rosenberger is a pianist who has released several CDs of relaxing clasical pieces, such as "Reverie". Of course, depending on your tastes you could use Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue", Steve Reich's "Music for 18 Musicians", or almost any piece that is hypnotic, rhythmic and soothing. But far and away, the Transitions CD are perfect for lulling babies to sleep. You cannot go wrong with this one. Truly indispensible.

5 out of 5 stars Great!!! This is a continuation of the original recording........1999-04-10

We've been using Transitions for years..the kids respond to this "nighttime/nap-time" music like nothing else.

Album Description

This 2006 Hellcat debut from Boston's acclaimed ska septet places the band on a growing list of "new traditionalists", bands like the Aggrolites and the Slackers that bridge the gap between 60's reggae, soul, and blues and modern approaches, with touches of jazz and country. While sharing the stage with heavy hitters like The Toasters, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Street Dogs, Reel Big Fish, and The Skatalites, Westbound Train have forged their own sound, where highly danceable ska arrangements and rock steady beats are in ample supply.

5 out of 5 stars A terriffic old-school ska and rock steady record.......2007-01-11

So I saw these guys as the opener for Dave Wakeling's English Beat when they rolled through the Cat's Cradle last year. Now, as a father of three kids it costs my wife and I ten bucks and hour just to walk out the door, so we usually blow off the warm-up, but the song on their myspace was decent and I like the ska, rock steady sounds. They come out and look like the Bowery Boys from the old 40's movies- newsboy hats, pork pies and such and were nervous as heck. They won the crowd over after their first song and it was a great set. They were on the 3rd date of the tour and had already sold out their CDs, so I picked this one up on Amazon. It is a great record. The problem with most ska acts is the songs start to all sound the same, but these guys mixed it up plenty. Nice horns, solid vocals, some decent song writing-it's a winner. This is good ska and rocksteady, it's not punked up like the Bosstones, it's old school like Studio One, Clancy Eccles, and the vintage bluebeat years. Buy it.
PS come back soon guys and we'll pay the sitter whatever it takes!

5 out of 5 stars Superb in every way.......2007-01-10

Wow. I've been waiting for this album for a while now, and I was not disappointed. Boston's soulful ska/reggae band delivers an amazing performance. Musically, it is much fuller sounding than their previous albums, with a tight rhythm section and awesome background. You can definitely see their growth as musicians in the higher complexity and skill of the horn players and more experimentation on the keyboards. Using his amazing, soulful voice, frontman Obi Fernandez gets deeper with his spiritual insightful and probing lyrics. This is an all around amazing album-buy it. Heck, buy it new and support some awesome guys that play amazing music.

The third in the unofficial series that began with 1999's Decks, EFX & 909, Richie Hawtin's Transitions is another scramble of minimalist techno and cutting-edge audio technology, delivered with the DJ's usual masterly touch. As one might expect from the title, the record is part of Hawtin's continuing assault on the notion of songs as individual entities. From beginning to end, Transitions toys with the whole idea of beginnings and endings. Hundreds of samples dissolve like bits of spice in a thick, sticky stew as Hawtin makes use of the latest studio innovations that have come along since 2001's DE9: Closer to the Edit. To that end, if possible, listen to this record in full 5.1 Surround Sound. Hawtin has always had a flair for ambience; it's one of the things that have allowed him to get away with his aggressively sparse approach. Here, the ambience is woven into the record's texture so deeply, it can only be fully appreciated via full immersion. Even with a fancy stereo system, Transitions may feel a little chilly to the uninitiated. Blips and tiny pieces of melody echo through a chasm of cold, mostly empty space. Set aside some time for it, though, in a darkened room with a glass of good Cabernet, and you'll get the idea. Also note: The package includes both a "shortened"74-minute cd mix, as well as a 96-minute DVD version. --Matthew Cooke

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars DE9.......2007-06-06

First I purchased DE9: Closer to the Edit. I thought it was absolutely incredible and exactly what I needed at that point. Then I decided to buy DE9:Transitions. At first listen, I thought it was OK. Upon a second, I realized that it is technically better, and that I would have to reach a new level of appreciation for Richie Hawtin's subtlety. I think people need to acquire an ear for Richie's minimal...my advice to you...dimly light room (somewhere cool), let your eye lids relax (they might eventually do this naturally), and bob your head from side to side to the beat of DE9: Transitions. Perhaps then you will understand.

4 out of 5 stars so-so.......2006-11-01

Of the entire DE9 series, this is the best, by far. Unfortunately, that's still not saying much. The first DE9 is totally boring and has nothing to grab the attention of the listener. Same pretty much goes for Closer to the Edit. Transitions definitely has some great parts, and I mean that. But, they seem few and far between. It would make decent party music, but for listening, its pretty much a total bore. Which is kind of surprising, because everything Richie has recorded as Plastikman has been top notch, same with his much older FUSE stuff, and definitely the Concept 1 CD which is pretty much his best music ever. I've made a decision to avoid anything Hawtin releases until he makes a new Plastikman or releases another Concept 1, or Concept 2, or whatever.

5 out of 5 stars Another Amazing Installment.......2006-04-11

This has to be one of the greatest works of its kind. I know of only a handful of individuals capable of creating art of this caliber. Truly a timeless piece by a legend who consistantly innovates while raising the bar, and eyebrows alike.

Bell'e Magnifico

5 out of 5 stars DE9:Transitions.......2006-02-26

If you like Hawtin's brand of near-minimalist techno, this album is a must have! Great beats, good melodies, everything you expect from Hawtin and more. The DVD version of the album (when played with 5.1 surround sound) is INCREDIBLE. Unlike any techno heard at home before.

4 out of 5 stars It's about time for Freddie to get his dues........2007-03-11

"Transitions" is the strongest and most solid work from Freddie Jackson for at least a decade. It has also been a very successful effort as the first single lifted from here, the opening sweetner "Until The End Of Time" made it to number one on Billboard's Hip Hop / R&B chart. With artists like Freddie hitting the top spot, and Kem also should this not be telling the idiots at the record companies something?! Although not my kind of ballad, the single has hit all the right spots as far as the general public in the US has been concerned and is rightly one of THE `wedding songs' for 2006.

I am so pleased for the man, and am more pleased with this CD. It is very much a Freddie Jackson album but perfectly moulded - probably cleverly - to today's more transient, and fickle, ear. This is not to say that it's a sop to the hoodie wearing bling crowd - far from it. Beau and Charlie Huggins are in the driving seat and artists such as Marc Nelson and the evergreen and all too silent Paul Laurence also have input. I was impressed with Marc's 1991 set "I Want You" which contained some real corkers, and he has spun his magic onto Freddie here and now in 2006.

I have four killers on here - all absolutely essential, but to be fair there isn't really a bad or unlistenable track on the album. My first star pick is the delightful bubbler, "Hold On Me", which is unashamedly 2006 but has more roots in classic R&B than many other songs. Freddie is atop of his form on these types of cuts; delivery is effortless and soulful, rich and plaintive. The addictive rhythm and the synth and keys all transform this into a very moreish morsel indeed.

"Can't Get My Flow" leaped out at me from the word go. It is a classic Paul Laurence midtempo number and I am so pleased that these two giants are together again. Whenever Freddie and Paul collaborate magic is sure to be the result. I cannot recommend this track enough, but I only wished that Paul had more input on this album - better still release another solo set. It's been 17 years since "Underexposed" and don't I know it.

The best ballad by far on here for my money is the AWESOME "More Than Friends" which is a Marc Nelson number. This song is a wonderful track, albeit very similar to a few other songs. Imagine the lovechild of Demetrius Perry's "Another World" and Al B. Sure!'s "Night And Day" and there you have "More Than Friends. This song is very much its own entity, though, but the comparison should get you excited anyway!

Another monster tune is Freddie's cover of Asaph Womack's "Heaven". He has taken an already great song and has sent it to the stars. This type of groove is perfect for Freddie and is one I would like to hear more of. The album ends on a very poignant and emotional tribute to the late, great and wholly irreplaceable Luther Vandross. I seriously miss this man and its obvious Freddie does too. For me it is important that artists such as Freddie continue doing what they do as I fear that I don't see any new talents on the horizon that could seriously be compared to either. Today's ephemeral anti-culture has seen to that, along with the scheming and penny-pinching record companies who want nothing but a quick buck and then move onto the next foul-mouthed rapper or clone.

There is also a second disc which is a limited edition DVD which features many of Freddie's videos. These are all the bonafide videos - "Rock Me Tonight", "Tasty Love", "He'll Never Love You (Like I Do)", and "Rub Up Against You" - and they're all on here. I'm not into music videos at all, but these are nice to have nonetheless. It certainly makes this a very satisfying and worthwhile purchase. This album and what it has achieved should be celebrated and given as much exposure as possible. It's in all our interests to do this.

3 out of 5 stars Just okay.......2007-01-03

I love Freddie Jackson, that's why I picked up his latest CD. I was a little disappointed with the song selection. It's not one of the best recordings, but that would be hard to do with all of the hits he has had in the past. Maybe if he needs to work with some of the hottest producers of today to bring out the best of one of my favorite singers. I will continue to purchase any future work he puts out anyway.

5 out of 5 stars Freddie's Back.......2006-12-15

I can't stop listening to this CD. It can be played all the way through; beginning to end. It is classic Freddie, just updated. He's still sangin':) and it is great to see him back. True class act.

Developed under the guidance of physician Fred Schwartz, the Transitions recordings serve both to enhance the miracle of childbirth and to aid infant sleep. Looking to reduce the stress of parents and infant children, musicians Joe and Burt Wolff collaborate with Dr. Schwartz to combine digital samples of actual womb sounds, barely discernable female vocals, and the soft wash of other atmospheric sounds. Recommended by childbirth educators and infant-development specialists for its relaxing effect, Transitions aurally stimulates the blood oxygen levels of premature infants in critical care, which might sound simply physical but is also powerfully musical. For weary parents on a midnight walkabout to quiet agitated babies, it's a blessing that induces sleep almost magically. The second of these two CDs builds on soothing frequencies that might rival the mythological music of the spheres as tone upon tone spirals, warms, and rings a message of profound well-being. Although formulated for the maximum benefit of laboring mothers and their most precious cargo, the Transitions series magically eases busy minds and restless spirits of adults and children of all ages. The second volume is effective as a sleep and meditation aid and is a wonderful accompaniment for massage, yoga, or a still moment for finding one's center. A nourishing gift to yourself or another loved one, these holistically healthy discs provide welcome companionship to all who desire peace. --Paige La Grone

5 out of 5 stars Transitions.......2007-06-11

Bought it for my daughter who is expecting. We found it very relaxing to listen to and hopefully so will the baby. Love the warning on the insert.....Do not listen to while driving....yes, it would put you to sleep.:) Good music for meditating or doing massage.

5 out of 5 stars music for babies to sleep .......2007-05-19

This CD was used in most of our childbirth and infant massage classes. It was relaxing but I had other CDs I liked better. While in the hospital, my new baby was lulled to sleep while sitting next to it. I called the hospital and asked what the CD was. Since ordering it, these CDs calm her when she's upset and she's been sleeping through the night. Every new mother should have these!

5 out of 5 stars Unique CD great for pregnancy, birth, babies, and beyond!.......2007-01-16

This is a very relaxing, ambient type CD set to a background of soothing womb sounds. "Transitions" is a must have CD for labour and birth as it can really help a labouring mother tap into her body and relax (listening to it through headphones can amplify the effects). It is also a great CD for deepening mediation and calming young babies. You can't help but feel soothed by the rythmic sounds and music. This CD is money worth spending for any birth professional or expectant parent who is interested in adding another tool for relaxation and calming to their bag of tricks.

5 out of 5 stars Extraordinary!.......2002-07-22

This musical recording is quite powerful in calming moms, dads, babies and a variety of 'harried' humans! Seriously, it's a treasure and would come in handy in almost any home.

5 out of 5 stars "Transitions" soothes the human soul & refreshes the spirit.......2001-06-22

I have had Transitions for 10 years. My first son was was premature. We played it during his 3 month hospital stay and it soothed him. I also use Transitions for meditation. The music evokes an emotional response (tears) at times which is soothing and cathartic; it is also a wonderful cure for insomnia. I also used Transitions during my last pregnancy to relax and focus on being calm and serene, which tremendously helped me during labor and delivery! My Doctor was impressed with Transitions, too! With lights dimmed and music playing, I slipped into my relaxation mode which really helped me through labor. During pregnancy, I believe the baby benefitted from the calmness Transitions evoked. He would settle down from his wiggling and relax! I still enjoy Transitions for relaxation, mental clarity and peacefulness when the outside world infringes on sanity! :)

John Digweed has kept busy in recent years, with everything from remix records (like last year's Fabric 20 release) and Podcasts to collaborative projects with his Bedrock partner Nick Muir. Transitions is taken from his globally syndicated radio show of the same name, and is just the first in a promised series of discs. Digger's expansive approach to dance music has led him down both light (the Northern Exposure collaborations with Sasha) and dark (Global Underground: Los Angeles) paths, and while Transitions can be sparse, it's mostly an up trip. The beats are exceedingly solid when they kick in, scattered with the DJ's usual patience and dance floor sense. A welcome melodicism floats in and out of the mix, as Popnonname's "On The Run" winds around a kind hook while Rocco's "Roots 4 Acid" goes for theatrics. There's an airy feel to the record, mostly in the texture and tinges of electro on tracks like On Spec's "Knights of Columbus" with its wiry little bassline grabber. It could use a bit more variation; the thing ends just when the vibe really starts to settle in. A 2-cd set may have worked better, but that's more quibble than criticism. Enjoy. - Matthew Cooke

Album Description

John Digweed, along with DJ partner Sasha, made dance music history with the 1995 release of Mix Collection on the Renaissance label. This album is widely considered to be the first DJ mix album ever commercially released, and it set the standard for every DJ mix album that was to follow. 10 years later, John Digweed now returns to Renaissance with the release of Transitions. With the title taken from his globally syndicated radio show, the single disc project will be released as two volumes each year, a showcase of John's inimitable sound and flawless mixing which has established him as one of the world's most innovative DJs, firmly lodged amongst the upper echelons of the A-list. The album features the exclusive new Digweed track "Warung Beach."

5 out of 5 stars THE Definition of "Give It a Chance"-ness.......2006-12-31

I bought this album having heard only one track, Rocco's 'Roots 4 Acid', which I was very impressed by. I popped it in, and after a little while checked the track number. 'Track FOUR??!' I thought to myself. 'Nothing has happened here. I just wasted fifteen dollars. What happened, Diggs?'
I had little else to listen to at the time, and began spinning this one on a constant basis on the mundane trips I had to make, daily, in my car. Before long, I found myself actually HEARING the album... and I have to say it is my most-played Digweed album that I own out of probably eight, including several of his GU sets. GU:Sydney is the only set of his I play more often than this mix CD.

The original problem was expectations not being met. I really had not thrown myself into this 'minimalist techy-dub-house' thing yet, and was expecting one of those wildly dark, haunting and progressive rides Digweed indefatiguably provides his listeners, and what I got was something that required - *gasp* - patience. But the real beauty of this album lies WITHIN its minimalism, and I believe only an artist as truly talented as Digweed could make sense of this quandary. He did, with flying colors.

Cruising, Feelin', On The Run and Torch are fine tracks, plain and simple. They've get terribly subtle grooves, neat turntablist tricks and infections basslines. But if the first four tracks are infectious, the REAL epidemic breaks out with the fifth track, Tigerskin's 'Neontrance' which masterfully mixes into Catwash's 'Plastic Rubberband' which is my favorite song on the entire CD along with Knights of Columbus, Warung Beach and Gebrunn Gebrunn. The keys to this album's brilliance are the GREAT(!) basslines and the transitional subtleties [perhaps the reason behind the Series' title]: They are SO masterfully crafted that the reason I initially disliked this album is because I simply MISSED them entirely!

I often liken the best of progressive trance to electronic classic music; music with so many variabilities, different themes coinciding and playing against one another. The oddity about this album is that I can liken it to classical music, but due to the LACK of such thickly lain-on musical soundscapes. It is wholly pleasurable, funky and eclectic music that only someone who really stands the test of giving an album a chance will appreciate. Trust me, they will thank their personal Gods for granting them said patience - I know I have.

They say the bad thing about first impressions is that you only get one. Fine; my first impression of this gem was terrible. After putting some aural effort into this mix, however, I cannot put it down.
*I am verrrry eagerly awaiting Transitions - Vol. 2 which will be released in the U.S. in 27 days. I have a bootlegged version of the entire CD already, and will say this: it is on par with Transitions, Vol. 1. I will be supporting this superbly odd Mix series by purchasing the upcoming album retail.

5 out of 5 stars Digweed in Play.......2006-12-31

Digweed did a good job with Los Angelos. It was one of his best global Underground sets. That's not his only spacey disc with soundscapes. Transitions is similiar where he does it again. It took a couple of tries to listen to it. All in all, an excellent disc!!! With this in mind, Transitions 2 will be a must have!!!

5 out of 5 stars I'm sticking my neck out here but I feel confident........2006-12-29

This is John Digweed's best work to date in my opinion and is my favorite mix of the year. He has perfected Ableton Live. I am addicted in a good kind of way. Thank you, John.

5 out of 5 stars Silky smooth..........2006-10-12

The great thing about John Digweed as that as he matures so too does his music. He stays on top of his game introducing us to new artists and new styles of music mixed with his own touch of magic. Like all truly great mixes this one bears repeat plays to unfold its subtleties, the rumbling bass grooves and the airy, almost symphonic, atmosphere.

It's got an electronic, tech-y feel but what is remarkable about the whole affair is how moving it is, perhaps not so much dance floor movement but the kind of movement that stirs you awake. There is a reason that Digweed's name stands out in the field of electronica and this mix is a perfect example of that. He knows what moves people and how to deliver and he succeeds here. The whole mix is fluid. Though there are some lulls it's the kind that leaves the listener waiting for him to drop the bomb.

I haven't been this excited about a mix since Nick Warren's "Shanghai" or Hernan Cattaneo's "Sequential" (both stellar in their own right). A new sound, a different direction and current. Don't miss out.

4 out of 5 stars John Digweed- Transitions.......2006-09-29

John Digweed once again shows why he is one of the best DJ's in the world, and this time he doesn't disappoint. "Transitions" is mostly compiled of tech-house tracks, blended with some progressive trance and electronica. The tracks coincide with one another and flow nicely, keeping the pace of the set energetic and doesn't get boring. Of course, the tracks are superbly mixed by Digweed, with in my opinion, the new Digweed single "Warung Beach" remix standing out the most. "Transitions" ends stongly with the last four tracks. This new mix stands between Digweed's earlier, darker Global Underground Series and 2004's "Fabric 20" when it comes to sound: not too dark and not too housy sounding- just right.

5 out of 5 stars Transitions--music to relax by.......1999-10-16

This CD offers music for many moods. Frank Mills is well known for his "Music Box Dancer", a catchy tune, not found on this disk. I especially enjoy "Heart of the City", and "Island Hopping". Each piece is very individual...You don't get bored listening to this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Pure music lovers gotta have this album.......1999-03-16

I, like another reviewer, borrowed this album from a friend. I gave it back, but it is haunting me and I can't wait to hear it again. I've searched on the internet and 5 states for it, but it is only available through you know who. This album is a gem, a one of a kind imaginative journey, demanding the full attention of your emotions. I wish Mr. Mills would return to this type of incredibly creative composing style. If you like this , I highly recommend Ray Lynch, a new age composer of legendary status.

4 out of 5 stars Transport yourself to another world with this music........1998-11-22

I had come across this CD some years ago. I had borrowed it from someone. I moved and the CD was returned, but I was missing it. I looked for Transitions in many music stores. and finally found it on Amazon. When you are commuting to work this music will lift your spirits. I would say go for it.
