5 out of 5 stars This is the way you go out!.......2006-02-21

Code Red is by far the best JJFP album; the duo truly went out with a bang. Every track has a great summertime feel to it and is great to blast when you are going down the street in either a car or with a boom box. You can easily listen to all the tracks and press play again to hear the tracks all over again.

This is their best album!!

4 out of 5 stars "Say Ho, Ho, Ho...now SCREAM!".......2005-07-29

I was hella lucky to find this, and got it at a hella nice used price. Needless to say, I got more than I paid for. This was Jazzy Jeff and FP's last full-length together. I'm assuming that this album was also a little different than their previous four.
Like many of the reviewers here have stated, you haven't lived until you've heard "I'm Looking For The One (To Be With Me)," which is undoubtedly the best cut from the cd. It's one of the smoothest songs I've ever heard, and invokes much nostalgia of similar early-90s music. In fact, JJ & FP freak a whole mess of smooth cuts throughout the album. The other ones are old-school homages. Pete Rock even produces a couple joints on here, so that should make your decision right there to check this out.
My other favorite song here is "Scream," which is precisely old-school and way too fun. Shouting along with that song in the car helped liven my mood a day after a rough breakup! Songs like this remind you that music doesn't have to be so complex to be memorable. A lot of timeless oldies are so because they were easy to sing along with or understand. A lot of these artists today seem to overlook this fact. "Shadow Dreams" is another great smooth cut, where the Prince details one of his personal philosophies on life without being preachy. "Something Like Dis" is a zany kickoff, while "I Wanna Rock" takes you to the very earliest days of Hip Hop.
Fresh Prince humbles himself on the standout, "Twinkle Twinkle (I'm Not A Star)," and I liked how Jazzy contributed to the chorus. "I Can't Wait To Be With You" is a solid romantic cut, and a rare collaboration between Rap and a deep-voiced R&B singer (Christopher Williams). "Boom (Shake The Room)" can get a little corny, but it's still fun and I like the newfound style that the Prince utilizes. "Code Red" is a claustrophobic bug-out moment, where Prince tells a story over a crazy beat. This story is much more mature than his past ones, and I like it. "Just Kickin' It" is smooth as I remember, but the one I can least recall, while the following "Ain't No Place Like Home" is a potential favorite. It gets a little sappy at the end, but overall it's message is 'to not take time with your family for granted'...not to often you get these messages in Hip Hop.
Overall, not a bonafide 5 star album, but possibly a dark-horse candidate for their best album together? "Code Red" definitely shows how they've evolved. Fresh Prince shows how you can kick the basics without having to be insulting or degrading. And his rapping represents the basics, not simplistic though, there's a big difference. At times, he flows at warp speed just for the fun of it, and shows how skilled of an MC he really is (contrary to uninformed opinions). The whole album is an exercise in old-school Hip Hop and smoothness, to say the least. Take this one, along with Will's newest "Lost and Found," and you have hours-on-end entertainment.

5 out of 5 stars good album.......2004-12-21

This was my first DJ Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince album. It's quite different from their older albums, like He's the DJ, Rock the House, And in this corner because there's less of the funny and silly stuff. The best tracks here are Somethin' Like Dis, I Wanna Rock, Twinkle Twinkle, and Scream. Actually, at first I didn't like Somethin' Like Dis and found it really loud and annoying, but I grew to like it as will you. overall good album.

5 out of 5 stars An underrated hip-hop classic!.......2004-06-07

This has got to be one of the most underrated hip-hop albums of all-time let alone in 1993. Around the early 90s, a new era of rap called "Gangsta Rap" began to take place. However, DJ Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince continued to make music as they were against the gangsta rap music.

Code Red is JJ & FP's is by far their best album. The opening track "Somethin' Like Dis" is a track in which the old-school meets the new-school. "I'm Looking for the One(to be with me)" is not only my fav. song but a great song to listen to when hanging with people. "Twinkle Twinkle(I'm not A Star)" explains that even though Fresh Prince is a big rapper/actor, he is still the same person. "Shadow Dreams" features inspiring lyrics about never to give up your dreams and to keep aiming for them. "I Wanna Rock" is an old-school song in which JJ & FP take it back with DJ Jazzy Jeff just tearin' up the turntables. You also can't forget the 1993 hit "Boom! Shake the Room" which is an enery filled track full of adrenaline. That will definatly get a party going. The rest of Code Red is outstanding. A must for hip-hop fans who aren't brain-washed by today's mainstream trash. 5 stars!

4 out of 5 stars mmmmmmmmmkkkkkkkkkkkkkaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy.......2003-07-06

A much more adult and mature cd then there past others, the track Boom! (Shake The Room) is a perfect farewell to their legions of fans. However I must say it is a good enough track that it should be on their greatest hits. Its popularity as a club smash made it the third rap cd to reach number 1 in the UK next to Vanilla Ice's Ice Ice Baby and MC Hammer's U Can't Touch This (both of which were made popular off of sampling other artists instrumentals). If you are a Will Smith or Fresh Prince fan this is a must to own.

5 out of 5 stars Never Again!.......2004-05-17

I've only heard a few songs from this CD but the track "Never Again" is hands down the most influential song I've ever heard. It's touching yet the rhymes are really inventive. It's poetry at it's best, with a message about hate, genocide, and not doing the right thing. This song alone is worth buying this CD!

2 out of 5 stars What is this?.......2003-10-15

I remember a few years ago anticipating the release of the white rapper affiliated with Wu- Tang. I first heard Remedy, as I imagine everyone did on The swarm with "never again" which impressed me thoroughly. I looked for more of his music, never to find anything.
So fast forward 4-5 years later, to me at the record store. I see Code Red and think "oh man, this should be good!" I bought it without hesitation, and went to my car to give it a fair listen. I literally started laughing at nearly all the tracks. Was this guy serious?
Luckily he included "never again" (even though he added on a ridiculous intro, and it seems as though the sound quality has dropped slightly), seeing that my Swarm cd was stolen. Exodus was humorous, but decent. All of the other tracks were forgettable. I actually wish I could forget how poor some of them were. I was really rooting for Remedy, but he left me a little dissapointed.

5 out of 5 stars Knowledge.......2003-04-10

This album is full of knowledge, like all Wu-Tang affiliated music. In the intro Remedy sets the stage for this LP, "And Now I Bring The Offering: Remedy, Another Genuine Article" and he produces, Book Of Life is a thinking man's track. If you listen to the album from beginning to end, he definetely reps his roots and drops a gem for everyone.

I personally enjoyed this album, it's definetely worth your time.

3 out of 5 stars Remedy's Second Album.......2003-03-31

A decent second album from the Wu-Tang Killa Bee and former high school classmate of RZA and other Wu Tang Clan members. The Jewish Holocaust anthem Never Again is included. Music is downbeat with pianos, strings and hardcore beats, no sappy party music here. There's also a song called Exodus, about the Passover story with samples from the movie. A Muslim and a Jew featuring RZA is a harrowing track punctuated with spare a sparse piano on the anger Jewish people feel over suicide bombings in Israel replete with references to current events, people and places.

    Album Description

The "Code of the Goddess" is an inspired musical exploration of the story from the best-selling novel, "The Da Vinci Code," by Dan Brown, featuring favorite works and new material from Laura Powers, creator of the Legends of the Goddess CD trilogy. A rich tapestry of elegantly layered arrangements interweaves beautiful melodies and mystical lyrics, creating songs that seem to spring from the souls of the characters we've come to know from the novel. This collection offers a perfect introduction to Laura's Celtic-infused music. It has become the soundtrack to my days, a musical companion on my own life journey. Celebrating feminine power and the beauty of the goddess tradition, Laura's earth-and-fire vocals blend with ethereal instrumentation, creating sensuous dreamscapes that transport you to another time, another place. I highly recommend it.

    5 out of 5 stars Beautiful & uplifting..........2006-03-20

"Code of the Goddess" takes the characters of the "Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown and breathes musical life into them. After enjoying the book so much the songs in this CD bring another element to the people and storyline of the book. No vague instrumentals and noodling here--These are songs that stand up on their own and to repeated listening. Opus Dei, The Mystic and the Muse, and the lovely "Heart in Winter" (Sophie's song is in both French and English--I recognize Pachabel's Canon in the song) are standouts. If there is no audio here I found sound clips on the artist's website. Well done--packaging is nice, too.

    5 out of 5 stars Inspiring!.......2005-03-11

I absolutely LOVE this CD. There isn't a single track that I don't love listening to ... at home, while working, in the car ... it's just one of those collections.

5 out of 5 stars Napalm Death's most complete and best album to date!.......2006-05-21

Napalm Death is an institution, having been around since the early 80s and considered both genre creators and leaders. The band's sound has varied throughout the 20 something years of their existence, ranging from pure grindcore, solid death metal, punk rooted grooves and finally a mixture of all three. But throughout all this time, they've never really dropped the ball (except maybe a little during the mid to late 90s) and have remained genuinely extreme and relevant. Personally, while I've always been a fan, they were never completely my thing until 2000s "Enemy of the Music Business", with its combination of brutality, groove and production values impressing me greatly. 2002s "Order of the Leech" was really just a successful continuation of this sound without really setting the world alight. Which brings me to "The Code is Red...Long Live the Code".

Let's get one thing straight, this is Napalm Death's best album. Ever! It has everything a great album should have. There's a fantastic production with a real live feeling without losing any of the clarity. Unlike some of the band's previous releases, this album has great variation with short brutal tracks juxtaposed by much longer, more detailed tracks. Some tracks have more of hardcore punky feel ("The Great and the Good"), while others much more grinding ("Diplomatic Immunity"). "Morale" has an almost doom like momentum and is a definite highlight for me. The point is, I never get bored listening to this album. There's always something different and fresh around the corner, yet everything fits together beautifully.

"The Code is Red...Long Live the Code" has amazing riffs in nearly every track and jaw dropping drumming to match. I also don't think I've ever heard Barney's vocals sounding this awesomely brutal and pissed off. As usual the lyrics are of a political nature, which in this day and age, gives him infinite targets in which to get all nasty on. There are a few celebrity guests involved including Jello Biafra from Dead Kennedys and Jeff Walker from the just as important Carcass, which is fun but not that noticeable. Napalm Death continues to be extremely relevant in terms of both content and quality, which is just incredible for a band of such longevity. They seem to have many good years left it them too. Napalm Death are Gods...long live Napalm Death.

5 out of 5 stars Now for England, The Code is Red..........2005-07-23

Coming on the heels of one of the best cover albums of all time, The Code is Red...Long Live the Code does not disappoint. Napalm Death is back minus one. Jesse Pintado left the group after the LNF 2 album for a variety of drug/alcohol related issues. He is missed on The Code is Red, but Mitch Harris carries the load admirably. Barney is in top form (as always) and his voice dominates tracks like Instruments of Persuasion (w/Jamey Jasta of Hatebreed). Instruments works well vocally with the call and response between Jasta and Greenway. Musically this album is just as brutal as Order of the Leech and Enemy of the Music Industry. Harris, Embury and Herrera meld their madness perfectly. Danny Herrera's drumming is evolving into legendary status with his breakneck speed and blast beats, this album is a large step forward for him. What makes this album stand out from the other Napalm Death offerings is the guest vocal appearances. Jello Biafra pops up on The Great and The Good but his vox are severely overpowered by Barney, still it is one of the stronger tracks. Some of the other standouts here are Silence is Deafening, The Code Is Red...Long Live the Code, Striding Purposefully Backwards, Vegetative State and Climate Controllers. Overall, this is another must-own album from Birmingham's finest. Highly Recommended.

5 out of 5 stars All Hail Napalm Death!.......2005-07-22

Definitively worth buying this album, one of the best Napalm has released to date. The vocals are more varied, killing riffs and insane drums - all you expect finding in a extreme metal album. The best tracks are: "Diplomatic Immunity", "The code is red..", "All Hail the Grey Dawn" and "Striding Purposefully Backwards".

5 out of 5 stars Napalm Death Have Still Got It.......2005-05-31

Even with the loss of guitarist, Jesse Pintado (Who allegedly left the band last year for unknown reasons), Napalm Death still have the same power as they have ever had before. Vocalist, 'Barney' Greenway, has only gotten more hoarse and more powerful with this excellent release. Mitch Harris, now the sole guitarist, plays so tight that you'd never know that Pintado even left the band.

Napalm Death as a whole have come together on this album, and produced a crushing Grindcore experience. This is great on so many levels. This CD also has a video for "Morale", the nearly 5 minute slow to mid-tempo song which is different for Napalm Death, although they pull it off very well and it's one of the coolest songs on this CD. The video for it is pretty cool.

The opening song "The Silence is Deafening" is straight-up brutal. It's a song that i first heard on MP3 somewhere on the Internet, and i thought "I've got to get this CD". "The Silence is Deafening", "Right You Are" which goes for 52 seconds, "Diplomatic Immunity" and the title track, are all very fast and give the listener a full blast when first listening to it. I think all Napalm Death fans would be expecting that though, as Napalm Death are pretty much THE Kings of Grindcore.

"Climate Controllers" and "Instruments of Persuasion" are very heavy tracks, with Jamey Jasta from Hatebreed appearing on "Instruments of Persuasion" and "Sold Short" too. Also, Jello Biafra from the Dead Kennedys and Jeff Walker from Carcass appear on this album too. Biafra on the song "The Great and the Good", and Walker on "Pledge Yourself to You". All guests take nothing away from Greenway's amazingly brutal vocals, but instead add their own kind of aggression to the songs.

"Morale" is a real highlight on this album, and is one of my favourite songs on here. It's different for Napalm Death, as it's a pretty slow to mid-tempo song. I'm not sure how well long-time Napalm Death fans will take it, but i think it should go over well, as it's a great song. Also, the bonus track you get with this CD is "Our Pain Is Their Power", which basically is an extended 2 minutes of "Morale" that finishes off the CD alot better than if the bonus song wasn't on here. It's nothing to get excited about, but it's a good addition to this excellent album.

All Napalm Death fans should get this simply because, for one, it's Napalm Death. And two, this CD is a great addition to your Napalm Death collection. This did for me, and surely will to others too, live up to expections. I expected something very brutal, unrelenting and aggressive..and i got it and so much more.

        5 out of 5 stars Contemporary Thrash.......2002-05-06

What is there to say about Sodom? This band is infallible. Every album they release is pure Teutonic thrash that calls us back to a time when chaos reigned and only the strong survived. Or something like that. If you're a serious fan of thrash or just want some good head-banging material, pick this up.

4 out of 5 stars Thrash Metal Survives.......2001-05-06

While most thrash/speed bands have watered-down their sound into something unrecognizable (Metallica) or begun to gravitate toward nu-metal (Slayer), there are a few that have retained their own identities, still playing the fast, brutal music that made them infamous to begin with. Sodom is one of those bands. The production from Harris Johns is top-notch and most of the songs are truly great, only a few descending into that mindless drum-pounding/guitar-shredding that can sometimes afflict bands that straddle the line between thrash and death or black metal. Are they repeating themselves? Most likely, but I'd far rather listen to this material than any other "metal" being released by "progressive, forward-thinking" bands like Korn; turn up "Addicted to Abstinence" or "Visual Buggery" and forget nu-metal exists.

        5 out of 5 stars sodom rules.......2001-03-31

if you have slayer or any other thrash metal acts in your collection, sodom belongs in your collection. it isn't a lame alternative act or a boy band, but a mature 3 prong thrash attack
