Sha la la la la la la la..........2006-09-22
Walk Don't Run, Vol. 2 is titled after "Walk, Don't Run '64", their hit surf-style remake of their 1960 hit. "Diamond Head" was another single released from the album. It's a great tune, but it wasn't a hit. The rest of the album features the group's usual mix of original tunes and cover versions of recent hits. The group used a lot of fuzztone guitar on this album, to good effect. The covers are all good, but the original tunes are really exceptional. "Pedal Pusher", "The Creeper" and "Rap City" are great (the latter being based on the classic piece "Hungarian Rhapsody", get it?). A really strong album by the Ventures.
The Ventures Knock Me Out features the hit single "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue". The rest of the album is the usual mix of cover versions of recent hits and original tunes. Fuzztone guitar is again featured, although not as much as on the previous album. The covers are solid, and the originals are good, with the best original probably being "Bird Rockers". This is another strong album, albeit not as good as Walk, Don't Run Vol. 2.
Two Great Classics!!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-05-25
WALK DONT RUN:
This album starts off with one of their best covers ever, House Of The Rising Sun. It's definitly more tight than The Animals' version. And next, is my favorite Ventures song, Diamond Head. Its got such a great drive and melody. The Ventures do a good job "rocking" up Night Train, as mostly associated in a jazz setting. Peach Fuzz and Rap City are similar, but Rap City is more of a remembered tune by The Ventures. Obviously this contains Walk Dont Run 64', which is even better than the first version, it even made the charts. Those are the only standouts.
KNOCK ME OUT:
This album has the best covers by The Ventures ever recorded. I Feel Fine, Love Potion Number Nine, and When You Walk In The Room, are some of them. They were also all featured on The Ventures Live In Japan album. The famous Slaughter On 10th Avenue, is also featured here. She's Not There amd Gone Gone are my favorite. Don Wilson's original, Mariner 4 is a pretty impressive compostion. Overall, this album is thourougly enjoyable.
