THE VENTURES A GO GO:

This album by the Ventures is one of their albums that had no hit singles on it, but had that special spark; like Telstar, and
Ventures In Space. This album starts off with an instrumental version of The Rolling Stones' Satisfaction. A very difficult song to do instrumentally, but with a few changes in the melody, rythmic wise, they pull it off. Then the album goes into an original which is very good. Another Highlight is Drums A Go Go. Mel's hot drumming is the best part of this number. The Swingin' Creeper, is also very good. La Bamba, Wolly Bolly, and I Like It Like That, are just ok, they don't live up to the ones I mentioned above. One more tune that shines here is Whittier Blvd.
This album as a whole is tremendous. Picking out songs individually; I might not think so much of it.

FABULOUS VENTURES:

This is one of The Ventures' most famous albums. In a legue of its own, riding high with Telstar, Ventures In SPace,. Hawaii Five o, and Walk Dont Run Vol. 2 in popularity. Perhaps the most well known song on this album is Journey To The Stars, written by a member of The T-Bones, an underground recording group for Liberty Records. Don Wilson, on the Live In Japan 65' album says, before they play this number on the album that is was from The Ventures In Space Album. It curtainly sounds like a "space" tune, just the name of it alone. Who knows if he made a mistake or the song simply got moved to this album. Pink Panther Theme is also a highlight here.

Party music! This CD, especially guitars a-go-go, makes me want to dance. Growing up, I used to play this and just go crazy dancing. I left the first CD at my brother's, who also knows the songs, and it cracked en route back to me. I'm now purchasing my second because it's just that good. If you like Offspring, you'll like this!

Go with the Ventures can best be compared to The Ventures' Wild Things and Guitar Freakout albums. They have no hits scored by The Ventures, but is real fun to listen to. Batman Theme is rightfully the same. Some good instrumental covers on this album are Green Grass, Boots, Frankie and Johnny, and Monday Monday. And perhaps the best song on the whole album is The Ventures original, Ad-Venture. Its guitar riffs and hooks are great! You can't go wrong with this album if you're already a Venture fan. If you are completely new to this wonderful group, get Telstar or Walk Dont Run.

Worth it for "Go with..." alone.......2003-03-25

"Go with The Ventures" was one of the very first albums I owned (handed down to me from my older brother), and it still to this day remains one of my all-time favorites (along with The Sandal's "Soundtrack to 'The Endless Summer", another one handed down to me).

I actually grew up thinking that The Venture's covers of "California Dreamin'" and "Eight Miles High" on "Go With..." were original Ventures tunes...and I still prefer them to the original versions.

Truly wonderful stuff.

Go With The Ventures - An amazing slice of instrumental pop........1999-11-21

This disc comprises two Ventures LPs, one of which, Batman Theme, is a good album of mostly original tunes based on the hit TV show. But the other LP, Go With The Ventures, is a masterpiece. On it's own, Go With... rates 5 stars. It contains half Ventures originals, (like the incredible Japanese smash hit Ginza Lights) and half covers of hit tunes of the day. In the latter category are amazingly tight instrumental renditions of songs originally recorded by The Young Rascals, The Mamas & Papas, Nancy Sinatra and Gary Lewis & The Playboys. This album smokes!

This CD features two Ventures albums from late 1965/early 1966.

The Ventures a Go-Go was the Ventures 20th album. It was released to capitalize on the popularity of go-go dancing. It features seven cover versions of recent hits, and five original tunes. The album has a lot of organ on it. I was surprised that the vocal lines in "Satisfaction" were played by an organ, instead of a guitar like they normally do when they cover a song with lyrics. Out of the original tunes, the great "The Swingin' Creeper" is a favorite among Ventures fans, although "A Go-Go Dancer" is pretty terrific, too. The rest of the album is also solid.

Where the Action Is was the Ventures 21st album. It was titled after a TV show that featured rock groups "performing" (really lip synching). The first song on the album is the theme song from that show (played by Paul Revere and the Raiders on the show itself). This album also features seven cover versions of recent hits, and five original tunes. The album has a harder edge to it, with quite a bit of fuzztone guitar. The best of the original songs is "Action Plus", but I also should mention "Nutty", which is based on The Nutcracker Suite (get it?). The best of the covers is "Lies", which is fantastic. The rest of the album is good, too.

The Ventures, of course, are the most succesful American instrumental rock group of all time. This CD features two of their albums.

Best of Pops Sound is a release from 1971. It features Japanese influenced pop music recorded specifically for the Japanese market. You see, the Ventures are the most popular American rock group of all time in Japan, so the group recorded many songs with a Japanese flavor especially for their Japanese fans. In fact, their first Japanese flavored recording, "Ginza Lights", was recently voted best song of all time by Japanese pop music fans. Some of the songs on this album were written by the Ventures themselves, and some of them were written by Japanese songwriters. The music is well played, but seems a bit repetitive to me, with all the songs being Japanese style ballads. Not much variety here.

Go With the Ventures was released in 1966. Interestingly, this album also features "Ginza Lights". Of course, featuring a song twice on one CD is pretty dumb. It would be okay if it was two different versions of one song, but it's not; it's the exact same recording. Anyway, this is a typical Ventures album from the mid-1960s. It features a mix of cover versions of recent hits and Ventures originals. The songs are all pretty good. One of the more interesting songs is the traditional ballad "Frankie and Johnny", which they reworked to sound reminiscent of the Kinks' hit "You Really Got Me". Another good one is the original song "Go", which is very Chuck Berry like.

SPOOKY stuff!.......2000-02-08

On this twofer, FLIGHTS OF FANTASY is a nice collection from 1968. Some vaguely psychedelic riffs as might be expected and covers of then-current hits like "Mighty Quinn", "Bonnie And Clyde" and "Scarborough Fair". But it's the 2nd album, THE VENTURES IN SPACE, that grabs me. The peaceful cover depicting a parked hotrod is deceiving; this album would be appropriate for a Halloween party! My FAVORITE of the various Ventures albums I've heard (so far). Highlights include "Fear" (possibly the only time a theme song got used on 2 different TV shows: "One Step Beyond", and later, the 2nd season of "The Outer Limits"); "He Never Came Back" (screams included!); "Exploration In Terror", "War Of The Satellites" (covered with mucho thrills by The Space Cossacks), "The Fourth Dimension" (which later mutated into "Werewolf" by The Frantics, as well as Eddie Angel) and "The Twilight Zone". But my fave is "Out Of Limits"! NO, it's not the theme song to "The Outer Limits"-- though I recall when it WAS used as the theme song for "The Ghoul", Chicago's TV horror-movie host! I never knew WHAT that song was-- until I bought this album!

ONE OF THE BEST VENTURES ALBUMS EVER MADE!!!!.......1998-06-14

"The Ventures in Space" is by far one of the best Ventures albums ever made!!!! This album reviews the theme songs of "The Twilight Zone,"One Step Beyond", and "The Outer Limits" along with a number of other eerie and out of this world tunes! WARNING!! Don't play this album if alone at night with the lights off!!!! The Ventures really outdid themselves on this album!!! If you grew up with the Ventures as I did, and you don't have this album in your Ventures collection..... You're collection is incomplete!!!!
