4 out of 5 stars i like this heckle album better.......2004-02-04

heckle were a good band who followed the socal style of hardcore punk ala AFI in there earlier days, but they were from jersey, where ensign and mouthpiece resided and definitely have a clear love for old school NYHC. where as the first album, we are not laughing with you, was more punk, this album finds steve cunningham getting more involved in the gorilla biscuits tendencies that he only hinted at on his first album. while not anything new in terms of style, steve brings a good dose of guitar dynamic to an otherwise basic music form. heavily influenced by dag nasty at times, it is the little guitar flourishes that decorate this album. that and steve has a knack for writing catchy ass hardcore songs....

some of these songs remind of some of the best late 80's NYHC songs that were never written, "along for the ride", "jokes on me", "dependence", "so much the same" with ther fast rhythms leaading into a classic hardcore breakdown, sometimes complete with youth crew vocals. other songs are of the more fast punk variety found on alot of socal hardcore bands such as pennywise, AFI, and bad religion and of course dag nasty (though they were from DC). there is a cover song, "C.O.I. - convenience of ignorance" that is from an old band of steves and the drummers called seven years war that were from vermont. they were way more metallic but with dense mathy rhythms that would've made bands like converge and coalesce proud.

2 out of 5 stars Get their first record.......2002-03-08

After We're Not Laughing With You, I was stoked for this to come out and bought it without listening to it. That was a mistake.

Gone are the melodic hardcore hooks from the first album, and in place is just fast, generic music, without a soul.

I think punk rock is the most dynamic musical genre but all the songs on this album sound the same.

Heckle displayed so much talent with their first record but had nothing left for round two, and appropriately called it quits after this album.

this cd is great. and has a very distinct sound to it. the first cd is may be better however, out of ten this probably is a 9.5 the other HECKLE(were not laughing at you) would be a ten. melodic hardcore with a distinct sound. you may enjoy

OTHER HECKLE HAS BACK UP VOCALS FROM DAVE OF A.F.I.

3 out of 5 stars In contrast to that other review..........1999-08-05

This is by no means original hardcore, in thought or in musical prowess. It does have good breakdowns and some keen sing-a-long choruses, but many of the songs run together, which is good if you like the record but a serious fault if you dont.

5 out of 5 stars Socially aware hXc with a distinct sound........1999-01-23

Wow. That is the first thought that came to my mind the first time i heard this cd. Incredible hXc punk songs breaking the typical hXc mold. Incredible guitar work and even more impressive lyrics. Any one can take something from what Steve Cunningham (singer/guitar/lyrics) has to say on this cd. Buy it, NOW!

4 out of 5 stars La Complicada Futilidad de la Ignorancia.......2005-11-25

5 out of 5 stars It Is Heavy. Heavy. And Did I Mention Heavy?.......2003-03-24

Fudge Tunnel's enigmatic mix of sludge, doom, and strait up heavy metal has captivated listeners since their forming in Nottingham, England. With their final full length release 'The Complicated Futility of Ignorance' they show have much they have grown as a band. Their heavy, "fuzzed out" riffs have become louder and louder as the band progressed and at their peak can break down small buildings in played loud enough. As I have said before, Fudge Tunnel has taken their sound to a whole new level. Unlike their previous albums - though all extremely great records - `The Complicated Futility of Ignorance's' production is above par; leaving distortion on when intended. Another great thing about this album is its Paul De Amore (ex-Tool) like bass lines; it appears that the bassist picked up some great ideas. The guitars are as great as always, no real change there. The drumming is absolutely fantastic, it shows its diversity by playing well on all the tracks. Vocally the album is great. The vocals are hard to describe - something like a Ministry type yell. The diversity on this album is very apparent with doom style tracks like "Find Your Fortune" and "Six Eight" (think about modern Neurosis or Khanate) to faster, heavier metal tracks like "Suffering Makes Great Stories" and "Random Acts of Cruelty" (done in Fudge Tunnel's own style of heavy metal). The best track on the album is "Excuse". The lyrics, the music, the vocals, the chorus ("I don't need an excuse to hurt myself..."), everything is just perfect. Their cover of "Pope Calvin III" (track 12) kicks in after five minutes of silence and just slays. Still, songs all bands need a song like "Suffering Makes Great Stories" with its perfect pitch of heaviness, and great riffs. Like the Melvins, Fudge Tunnel is a band that will never of out of style. Their last album is a serious MUST OWN to heavy metal lovers everywhere. Head bang until your g oddam ned neck snaps.

5 out of 5 stars sludgy fuzz guitar bliss.......1999-07-25

Fudge Tunnel shows once again they are the masters of thick, layered distortion guitars, mad hooks, and a grooving bass lines. Smashing Pumpkins meets Helmet.

4 out of 5 stars try and top this.......1999-04-06

The Complicated Futility Of Ignorance just goes to show you how far these guy's have grown as musicians. The drums are stomping and violent with alot more depth and a more open sound. The guitar is thick and distorted with riffs that leave you wanting more. The bass is fat and ripped a hole in my new speaker. This is Fudge Tunnel's Last full length album and one of there best. If you like Fudge Tunnel you will love this one.

These guys are some of the hardest working people in hardcore and are dedicated to what they do. I've been going to see Locked in a Vacancy for about two years and seen them progress from a metalcore band to a hardcore/metal aural experience. This cd is the product of this progression. Not one bad song on this disc, not two songs that sound alike. Check this out and support some of the most amazing metallic hardcore being produced today...

Some wonderful song titles, but the band sounds like it has run out of ideas. Not to dismiss the great riffs on this CD, but be advised -- every previous Fudge Tunnel release (+ "In A Word," the mop-up CD that followed this one) should be purchased first.

            4 out of 5 stars Fearlessly experimental.......2007-04-01

Before Daath (Hebrew word for knowledge) signed to Roadrunner Records, they had a self-released debut which hinted at their interest in experimental-based compositions, defying categorisation. Mainly driven by a trio, the band is primarily the brainchild of vocalist Michael Kameron and guitarist Eyal Levi, both of whom also play a good dose of synths when necessary. The duo is backed by second guitarist Emil Werstler while the rest of the lineup is listed as additional musicians, who have by now been replaced by other full-time members.

Musically, the band utilises wide-ranging instrumentation in order to achieve their desired mix of experimental death, thrash, and even black metal performed with considerable technical prowess. At only 33 minutes, the CD makes a weird start with "The One", chock full of processed vocals and African-style percussion, and then ventures into the brutally heavy "Placenta" to introduce their gruelling rhythms and psychotic death metal growls. The songs being too short to actually pigeonhole them into a certain genre, it becomes all the more challenging as "Filter", the third track, makes its way into the mix. The track boasts droning keys strategically placed behind a strong mix of death and clean vocals, effect-heavy guitar parts, and acoustic sound collections. The transitionary "Child Says" re-introduces their heavy edge before "Infestation", the album's centrepiece, kicks off with a tribal drum beat courtesy of session drummer Eric Sanders. Fully drenched in synth layerings, clean guitar harmonies softly soar atop minimalistic acoustic guitars.

Vocalist Michael Kameron exerts a demonic growl on "Concentrate Living" whilst retaining his cold whisper-like chants during the moodier sections. "Blender for the Baby" borders on old-school black metal-styled vocals, supported by rhythm-aware bass and guitar groove. This track is among the weirdest on the album, as, at one point, screamed metalcore-ish vocals are woven into the mix, but that is immediately subsided as the band sport a jazzy freeform improvised section. Having totally surprised the listener, the following tracks come in, offering lots of clean-sung parts most notably on "Slow" and "Just for a Second", still adding in elements of extreme metal, and by the time the last song "Crystasis" begins, one cannot help but wonder if he's still listening to Daath or an eerie combination of Aphix Twin and an obscure metalcore band.

With their sophomore album now releeased, featuring the drum services of Dying Fetus' Kevin Talley, and the superb production job of masters such as James Murphy and Andy Sneap, this band is surely going to find a bigger following. Let's watch them grow tenfold.

            5 out of 5 stars awesome.......2004-07-20

i just recently dis discovered this band and i have to say that they rock. they are death metal but with expiremental parts to them. the vocals rock the music rocks. two thumbs up.

3 out of 5 stars Excellent production, excellent musicianship.......2004-07-07

Well, I have to hand it to these guys. The production is excellent. The playing tight, the vocals are tight, and the hooks are perfect. The only thing I have to complain about is the lyrical content. It's not horrible, just a bit cheesy at times.

"If I had a fork, I'd just want to stick it!"

Yeah, ok. But still a good debut, and I'll be looking forward to the next one!
